    Bond doesn't go to Africa in Live & Let Die. It's Jamaica, which represented the fictional San Monique that substituted the Caribbean country of Haiti for politically correct reasons. Blaxploitation's heyday was actually in 1975, three years after LALD was released. One could argue Bond was ahead of the curve, as Tom Mankiewicz had the idea of a Black Power cast in 1971 when LALD was publicly announced as the next Bond to be shot in 1972.

      darn thanks for the correction though! And interesting that this was just before the blacksploitation craze, thanks fr the info!

      @@JimTheMovieGeek Yes, it was also the first big budget Hollywood production to cast a large ensemble of black actors in major key roles. I share your enthusiasm for this movie and place it at the top of the Moore list. I understand what you mean by Moore finding his footing in TSWLM, but also happen to think it was the moment Moore stopped trying to stretch himself as an actor and decided to play the role closer to his own off-screen personality. In other words, a bit of a rake with a dash of schoolboy charm whilst sending himself up. TMWTGG was a rushed production, which is sadly evident, to meet its Xmas release date.

    • @JimTheMovieGeek
      @JimTheMovieGeek  5 років тому +1

      @@SmartCookie2022 I also think Moore used a lot of the same mannerisms he used when he played The Saint.

    • @SmartCookie2022
      @SmartCookie2022 5 років тому

      @@JimTheMovieGeek Yes, I totally agree. Moore was always The Saint to me, even when playing Bond. Sadly, Moore stopped playing him as a ruthless spy after TMWTGG. For Your Eyes Only was originally written with a new actor in mind as 007, hence why his persona is slightly different and seems a throwback to his earlier Bond, though sadly ruined by the comical goofiness of Blofeld, Thatcher and the parrot.

    3) For Your Eyes Only
    2) Live and Let Die
    1) The Spy Who Loved Me

  • @CannonFodder93

    Roger Moore, the first Bond that I ever watched (followed closely by Brosnan), and one that still has a place in my heart. I just feel his charm and natural charisma really left an impression. My ranking of his movies:
    1) For Your Eyes Only
    2) A View to a Kill
    3) Moonraker
    4) Octopussy
    5) The Spy Who Loved Me
    6) Live and Let Die
    7) The Man With the Golden Gun
    I must admit, people are gonna pick the torches up, but I personally feel For Your Eyes Only and A View to a Kill are Roger's best performances. I loved how intense his performance got in some of the more suspenseful and action-packed moments. Also, View to a Kill has one of my favorite Bond girls in Stacey Sutton and one of my favorite theme songs. Plus, I honestly like having an older Bond, so I love Roger's last time in the role. I think it's both underrated and overhated. Plus, Patrick Macnee is great.
    Moonraker I like mainly for nostalgia. I love Drax and Dr. Goodhead, but once things go into space, it all becomes way too slow paced for me.
    Octopussy I feel is a very outlandish and fun movie, yet there are some really dark moments (009 being killed and Bond actually uttering a badass "This is for 009" once he kills the remaining twin). I also love Louis Jourdan, Kabir Bedi and Steven Berkoff in their roles, and Maud Adams gets a much better role in this.
    The Spy Who Loved Me is alright. I do feel Barbara Bach does tend to be a bit flat at times as Agent XXX, but she isn't that bad. Stromberg is a run-of-the-mill villain, but one with an excellent performance from Curd Jurgens. I also love Jaws. I love Richard Kiel in the role. There is menace yet a whimsical charm and humor to him.
    Live and Let Die... BlaxBondation. I like this movie, but not as much as the others. It actually has my favorite of the official Felix actors in David Hedison, I love Yaphet Kotto as Kananga, Julius Harris is so badass as Tee Hee and Jane Seymour... so beautiful.
    The Man With the Golden Gun... I don't really hate the movie, but there is stuff that really doesn't work. Hip and Goodnight are just completely moronic that they feel like a hindrance rather than an asset. Bond is also handled really oddly in this movie. However, I do love Scaramanga, Nick Nack and Sheriff Pepper. However, I feel like they don't know what direction to take, because despite the corny stuff being there, this feels a bit too mean-spirited.

    • @JimTheMovieGeek
      @JimTheMovieGeek  4 роки тому

      I would agree about For Your Eyes Only, it was great to see him finally get a bit more serious and I think he pulled it off. I enjoy A View To A Kill too. I do see what you mean about man with the golden gun, thers this odd mean spitrit throughout and Bond is a bit of a jerk haha. Scaramanga was one of the greatest Bond villains though with the iconic Christopher Lee.

    • @CannonFodder93
      @CannonFodder93 4 роки тому

      @@JimTheMovieGeek Yup. I think For Your Eyes Only really managed to mix the humor with the hard-edge rather well.
      And yeah, with The Man With the Golden Gun, there does seem to be a very mean-spirited sense. You can really tell in the M scenes, where he actually chews everyone up (even Q isn't safe from his wrath). You can also tell from the way Maud Adams' character is treated (she just gets beaten pretty badly and she gets killed pretty unceremoniously).
      But yeah, Scaramanga is great. Christopher Lee is always great to watch. It's just unfortunate that his defeat doesn't really feel well deserved. There were a few shots in the trailer where there is an implication that Scaramanga was cheating during the duel thanks to the dialogue, but that was cut from the film and it makes Bond look a bit too underhanded, because without those scenes, Scaramanga actually appears to be doing everything fair and square. But other than that, a great villain.

    7: A View to a Kill - Tired, gross. The series NEEDED a Re-vamp.
    6: The Man with the Golden Gun - The first truly terrible bond film. It’s a lousy picture. Good villain tho.
    5: Octopussy - It’s too much camp fore me. It feels tired. Moore looks weird.
    4: Live and Let Die - Has the great gadgets and quirky villains, but it’s not necessarily one of the best.
    3: For Your Eyes Only - It is very functional. Some great little scenes in it. A gem of a movie.
    2: Moonraker - Happily formulaic. It’s a guilty pleasure. Has lots of energy.
    1: The Spy Who Loved Me - If I want to go outlandish, this is the ONE. Third times a charm!

    Hi Jim you might think I'm insane and I can't quite believe I'm saying this but I think moonraker is the best James bond film. I rewatched it over the weekend and it blew me away. Hadn't seen it for decades. I know it has a lot of problems but I didn't care it was just a lot of fun to watch. It has everything you could possibly want in a bond film. Roger Moore was bond when I was a child I believe the first bond film I watched repeatedly as a child was octopussy.

    7. A view to a Kill - Moore is just way too old here
    6 Octopussy - gets better as the action mired to Germany and the train fight is good.
    5. Moonraker - I used to hate this movie, it watched it again recently and it has really gone up in my estimation.
    4 The Man with the Golden Gun - Scaramanga is a great villian and I love the Hong Kong scenes and the waitress is the bottom’s up club gets my motor running.
    3 The Spy Who Loved me - loved the Ken Adam’s sets and the plot, yet we still never find out what had pissed off Stromberg
    2 For your Eyes Only - a great espionage thriller reminding us that James Bond was actually a spy in the service of the Queen.
    1 Live and Let Die - ‘names is for tombstones baby’. Worth it for that line alone.
