- Step by step DIY Audi TT MK1 first generation how to change Front Fender and Rocker panel / Side skirt. Also in this video replacement of washer pump, repairing rust and applying body protective coating.
Good job my friend!
You did it alone by yourself, and you show me, that I can do it by myself too.
Keep that classic audi tt for many years!
Thanks! Most challenges are solved one bolt at a time. When we realize this, nothing is beyond our reach.
Amazing informative video. To the point and didn't miss a step. I just bought a 2000 tt today with the same issue. Hopefully theres more tt videos to come.
Thanks!
Very nice and careful work. Gives credit to the saying "if you want a job done proper, do it yourself"
great vid mate and top job,I think the age of the mk1 now alot of them will need this done
Think you're right!
nice video, i just pick up a TT that is in great condition except for the fact that I see the beginnings of some rust in this spot on the right side. Good to know it is relatively easy to replace these!
Thanks! On the right side there shouldn't be a washer-tank either. There could be something else though.
well done mate! long live the TT!
Love the garage.great vid
Thanks!
Thanks very much, that is a really well produced video, very helpful. That is an unnaturally clean garage!
Thanks! Well, I guess I clean the garage floor more than my livingroom :)
@@RayLevang Perhaps you have it right!!!!
Fantastisk video!
Video number 1. Thanks
I wish i had your garage my TT would be mint
This video has great camera positions and lighting. I've seen too many car videos in which the UA-camrs are good mechanics but left me wishing I could've seen better what/how they were doing.
Thanks!
@@RayLevang No, thank you! This rust repair is helpful information. I have rust problems in my area of northern US near the Canadian border. Lucky for me, they don't appear as bad as your area.
nice and professionnal work, i need to do in my 3.2v6... many thank 👌🏽👏🏽👍🏽✌🏽
Thanks! ahh, the V6 roar..
@@RayLevang great job mate.Vr6 rocket panel is metallic too? i find it pretty soft though.
Awesome, comprehensive video. A lot of work to replace two pieces. I have same car it’s been garaged and not driven in the winter, not looking forward to that job!
Thanks! Well it's gonna take some, but it's well worth the time - and the satisfaction in the end. Good luck!
Very good work! Please do this to my TT too 🙂👍 Greetings from Germany
Thank you! Well, now you know how to 😁 - Good luck!
@@RayLevang I will replace my left fender after the winter. The TT is a wintercar/ second car for me, but it grows on me and I think I have to keep it, because my girlfriend also likes the Audi. Mine has 236000 km with first turbo and I hope it will survive 😁
@@ErecMr It's a really good car! Too bad it doesn't allow a trailer hook! If it did, It could have been my only car.
@@RayLevang fortunately I don't need a trailer 😆
Your garage is cleaner than my house lol !!!
Easy to clean when there's no couches and floor mats😉
Great, clear and concise video. Cool garage as well.
Thanks!
Nice XV you have there! Good video too
Thanks! Sharp eyes! It's a 1983 XV1000. Maybe I'll make a short video about it!
Thank you for the videos, I can see this being needed very soon in my future. Regards
Thanks! Good luck with your TT!
Thanks heaps for making this extremely informative upload.
If a picture is a thousand words a moving pixel must be the same.
🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😂🍀🍀🍀😎🤓
Thanks man. Good luck!
very informative
Thanks!
Very cool video, like your professionality en your super clean garage. Good job!
Thankyou! It's always better to start a project in a clean and tidy space!🤓
Great job . Explains a lot . Im not looking forward to it. But it will probly need to be done. Did you have any screws left over when you finished ?
Very well done. Video and workmanship
excellent video , nice workshop !!
Thanks!
Now is the time to get a TT, in a few years they will be very saught after cars
You are probably right. All time low now.
Great video and very helpful - I have now removed my sill/rocker to repair a dent (Audi jack....) and address the rust. My panel has a textured coloured rubbery coating on the lower half - it looked as though your old panel had the same finish. Do you know if this the same material that you painted on the seam or a spray coating? Thanks
Hey! Not shure whats on the original parts, but I guess it's some kind of body protection. What I used is a typical under-car-body-protection stuff that's never really gets hard. So I don't know what options is on the market, especially if you plan to paint over it (as it seems to be the case with the original parts). Any solution is more forgiving if your car is black though.
Excellent job 👌🏻
Thanks a lot 😊
Good job man.
Thanks!
The sound effects from the begining of the video are like from a horror movie.I just hope that tonight i don't get nightmares.i think we guys who live in snowy countries really fear those things, atleast i really do
Haha, sorry about that. Rusted cars are the worst nightmares :)
Thank you, it is an helpful introduction to change the rocker panels side skirts. Typically for all leakage water-pump on left fender (VW/ Audi same concept), the chemical wash water wash out the protected surface. The road stones impacts on the edge was in this case not the reason. May I ask you, have you still your TT MKI today? Is the TT MKI repair you've done in well condition today? THX Andi
Hi! Ok, not sure why washer fluid should damage the body, but if you say so i'm not gonna argue ;) I sold the TT some time after the repair, som I don't know, but the panels was original from audi dealer, and painted at a modern paint-shop, so I guess it's fine. But salty roads is the number one car killer here in Norway, and there's almost no way to prevent rust on winter-driven cars.
useful
VERRY GOOD VIDEO!!!
But the Music is really bad...
Excellent video. I wonder if this is an area prone to rust on 8N TTs.
Maybe 🤔
Hello, nice Video.
I have the exactly same problem, but on both sides... I am going to repair it this winter when my TT Roadster is in winter garage.
I have one question: Is it not necessary to seal the rocker panels on the top/left/right? You just sealed it on the bottom under the car.
Thank you. Have fun with your TT :)
Thanks. Well, I guess you could put some stuff on the top by the screws as well, but I don't think it's necessary. As far as I remember, the door sill cover had som adhesive though. In any case I would use something that can be relatively easy removed, just incase. (Stuff that doesn't harden). Good luck!
Bro ! Where did you get the new side skirts and fender?
I got the parts from an authorised VW/Audi dealer. At the time around $700 for both. Unpainted.
Can you list the tools needed, i want to do this on mine. Seems better than repairing the rust. Nice video
Screwdrivers, torx-screwdrivers, Umbraco-set, socket-set, pliers, pop-nail pliers (for the bracket) very thin pop-nails.
Great Video (but clean that motor!)
Thanks. Yea I know!
Hi well done, where did u get thouse panels? Fiberglas?
Thanks. Original metal parts from an Audi dealer. Around 700 euros for both parts - unpainted.
Forget the car, BITCHIN Garage!!!
Where in Norway did you buy side skirt?
In Mo i Rana. Sulland (Audi and VW dealer) NOK 7000,- for fender and sideskirt. Unpainted.
Do you have to remove the wheel to just replace the rocker panel?
I would remove both front and back wheel. However, your biggest concern will be front wheel arch cover and screws (two) that connect the rocker to the front fender. They might be rusted and hard to remove/replace.
Where have you bought these parts?
Audi-dealer / workshop. Original parts.
isn't there option for plastic, or Plexiglas or carbon fenders?
Not that I know of. Sounds expensive anyway. I paid around 750 usd for fender and rocker panel from an Audi dealer. (Not painted though)
!!!!!!
Rust milk? er det ett biltema produkt? Hva heter den her hjemme
Jeg var innom et karrosseriverksted og fikk litt. Man trenger veldig lite. Vet ikke hva det vil hete på biltema, men googlet dette:
www.skruvat.no/Rustspiser-300-ml-P48260.aspx
They are not made from aluminum ?
No, common auto steel I suppose.
@@RayLevang The body is steel but the hood is aluminum.
Greetings from a TT driver from Bavaria
Hei
Hvor kan man få kjøpt ny kanal
mvh Bengt
Jeg kjøpte hos en audi-forhandler. Da kostet skjerm og kanal(skjørt) ca 7-8000,- tilsammen tror jeg. Ulakkert.
Where did you get the parts?
Got the parts at an Audi workshop. Around €700 total. + paint job.
Sick little garage! Can’t swing a cat in mine 👎
Thanks! Had to google 'swing a cat' lol :D
Ray Levang not advised, sharp claws 🐅
