Fred Rogers was very impactful on me as a child. The chasm for creators is very real, and was even a significant hurdle for Mr. Rogers, as we can see here straight from the man himself. This is a wonderfully made video. Great work Van!

I'm always impressed by artists who succeed at supporting themselves with art as well as have children, homes, and cars. I'm a successful artist (I tour the world, release music) in my 40's but I don't have kids and I never had debt. The chasm I had to leap across was much smaller.

I'd seen that Mr. Rogers clip a few years ago and it brought tears to my eyes! I found a tremendous amount of respect for him after watching it. Not only did he create a nurturing, educational and emotionally connected TV show, but he also made a very courageous approach to the US Senate to get the much needed funding to make it happen.
There is only one Mr. Rogers and I owe him so much gratitude for his show. He was a pioneer in every way possible...he even uses the word "mental health" way back in 1969 decades before the word is used often today. I still struggle with anxiety and accepting my strengths and weaknesses from time to time ("you are special, and I like you just the way you are") , but it would have been much worse if I didn't watch his show as a child.

I watch a lot of self-help podcasts, life coaching podcasts. etc etc. I feel like I've learned more from your channel on how to better myself as a man and a human than any of those other slick looking channels. I feel like the reason for me is how honest you are and how genuine your intentions come across for each video. You're as real as it gets. WOW, what an amazing post Van! This one speaks to many of us Spirited people!
As a corporate worker, I have little fulfillment. The artist in me was aware of the chasm (aka: "starving artist") in advance and did whatever I could to avoid it. The end result of my path was financial success, but very little fulfillment. The only fulfillment I get is when I meet goals, but selling more widgets has no affect on my life as a contribution to society.
Many people like me would like to sell everything and move to the country and do farming and other creative pursuits without the stress of making ends meet in a money sucking city.
So creative pursuits becomes a hobby, nothing more nothing less.

Fred Rogers words that really beautifully when the says that if feelings are mentionable and manageable you're doing a great service for mental health.
You make wonderfully unique and soothing videos about tricky topics which are very much in the public interest. It feels like anybody putting a solid effort into their art should be making a sensible income but it's rarely the case. Of course there are a lot of artists in the world, but perhaps too many people in the distribution chain are swallowing up a lot of the revenue before it trickles down to the creators. Hopefully tech eventually cuts out all the middle men rather than just creating more of them or turning it into a PvP game pitting the artists against themselves squeeze the margins.

The Spirited Man could have made his White Paper about any selfish endeavor but who did he choose for his subject? FRED ROGERS. I seriously am holding back tears.

This guy is unreal! So freaking good! Everytime… so relatable. I never thought of Van as a Mr. Rogers for adults, but now that I’ve seen this it’s so true. I couldn’t really wrap my head around what Van was or what the ‘Spirited Man’ was at first. At first I came here just because it was Casey Neistat’s brother. And I first I was intrigued but thought it was a little strange. But then, the same way Mr. Rogers pulls you in with his sincerity, I started sensing that with Van’s content. Not at all in a slow or boring way, but in a truthful, sincere way, with relatable topics taught in a relatable and honest way.
This content is so good. I even became a patreon of the channel several months ago just to support.
I don’t know who the powers that be are, but I do help you support. And I hope you watch some of the stuff on this channel. It’s absolutely fantastic!
    Thanks Van
