Nice. That Ball end hack also works well if you "over wrap" your Gibson stop bar. Also, you can easily make a spring from guitar strings.

Good tips. I didn’t think of making a spring from string. Although they do a rhyme.

There are some other frustrating issues with the G&L S-500 bridge design, but I didn't get into it, in this video.

It isn’t a problem it is a design improvement. The hack is a solution looking for a problem.

Re the first ‘design flaw’ this can be attributed solely to BBE’s doing as this is not an issue on Pre-BBE G&L guitars… Leo Fender was not only an incredible innovator, he was methodical & thorough in his designs & inventions.
Ironically, internet lore has it that Mr. Fender was was cheap and always looking save a buck, however the first thing BBE did upon taking ownership of G&L was to incorporate several cost cutting measures to Leo’s designs… resulting in many ‘design flaws’ such as this one.

      You’re welcome. Glad to help.
This my 25th year primarily playing Leo-era G&L guitars. They’re in a class by themselves.

flint spring from disposable lighter for your wobbly screw in trem arm, might need ball end if the hole goes all the way through the block

I do hacks all the time as back in time there where no parts to get when I went to an musicstore to get parts the answer was, by one good guitar! - But I did from you in yesterday...
Those cheap blocks made of potmetal they are also poisonus.
I can not understand that is allowed into Europe as toys made of that same crap went forbidden decades ago but karma of cource we take care of our waste in an green manner hokus pokus filiocus somewhere in an fancy envoirement friendly hightec plant they processes it into clean soil!
Ok we ship it to Asia to be dumped in scrapyards and they will sent the crap back us paying for it.

I guess pot metal is potentially toxic due to the potential lead content. But it’s nothing compared to the Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab toy kit.

Isn’t the ideal to have as little string in the block as possible to minimize the amount of travel the string has in the block? It is for improved tuning stability.

In my opinion, the string does not actually slide over the saddle as you use the vibrato. The entire bridge assembly moves, along with the six strings that are anchored.
Although, if you do a deep dive, like you might do with a Floyd Rose, and all the strings get loose, in that case, yes, the shorter the back end of the string, the better. But in the example seen in the video, that was simply too short.
