Yep. The problem isn't that wrestling is fake; The problem is that it's often really, really dumb. In order to suspend disbelief, they have to meet the fans halfway.

@@nikeyy35Because in Japan they do things a bit differently and also come from a more catch wrestling background. Granted, here in the States, we did have catch wrestling before pro wrestling came to be what it is. A lot of torture submissions and odd holds come out of catch wrestling.

I disagree. When Stone Cold said “Gimme a hell yeah!” and they panned to the empty seats, I thought I’d witnessed some of the best material WWE has put out in years.

You should check out last nights AEW event.no crowd but they had a handful of the stars sitting ringside for needed moments and shot most of the night tight. They did a great job I think for having no one there

Many other wrestling shows also blackout arenas with full or empty crowds. Even WWE has done it on some shows. The fact they didn't think to do this is embarrassing. Not that they have to hide the fact it's empty, because we all know it's empty, but visually it looks so weird to have this bright empty room. For Mania, I'd consider only lighting the ring and then maybe soft color lights/uplighting on the furthest walls, maybe on some banners. Will be interesting to see how AEW presents the show tonight.

there was alot of moving parts going on here and the kids on the underground are smirking and laughing at the inside jokes.
The problem is if they blackout the arena, someone might watch it and think the crowd is just dead if they don’t know what is going on.
In WWE''s defence, the only other time (at least in my lifetime) they have had empty arena shows like this was when wrestler passed away (like Eddie and Chris), but cause no one ever critiqued them for it (understandably due the situations they were) it probably wasn't something they thought too much about. At least this is my 2 cents on the issue

I say dim the lights and use recorded sounds of the public. They do it in comedy shows or series for many years. And just like the sitcoms everybody will know that it's recorded, but in some way it will be more fun to watch.
