Absolutely correct someone could use this. I may or may not be someone. Hoping to pull my car back from Oregon across the country in my van and now feel more confident
I don't know if Chevy has changed anything since 2001 the last time I bought a 1-ton van. But the only difference back then between a 2500 and 3500 what is a used additional spring at the rear in the one-ton. You pay a hell of a lot more for car insurance for a 1-ton as well.
Nice. Very nice. I'll be installing the wiring soon. Diy. The receiver is on way this week. Will be first time time my 2017 3500 express van tows. Can't wait. Will be hauling a 1993 2500 vandura ona new 2021 in car hauler trailer. Need to install the brake controller and adapter for the 7 way harness. I have all those kids. But the control
I just bought a 2019 Chevy express passenger van with the 6.0 and can’t wait to pull my camper but stupid COVID-19 (no place to go 😩) good video thanks
Keep up this good content - your channel is gonna grow - so much car content is overproduced and stupid on youtube. A brake controller would not have made a difference in this case because uhaul trailers use surge brakes - what you are feeling is more the surge brakes (they suck) than anything wrong with your truck. Vice Grip garage, Legit Street Cars, Andrew Camarata all have lots of followers, and your videos are just as informative and interesting. Keep it up man - I subscribed.
If I could give this video 5 thumbs up I would . My deal is my van died and I need it . I have a pick up but I need to be able to tow my car trailer . So my friend said I could do it with 3/4 or 1 ton van . So I searched for this video about a van pulling a car trailer . This would really solve all my vehicle problems
@@TerenceDIY you can’t get 4wd on a Chevy or gmc van now . Gmc website says towing capacity is 10 k . I am assuming that’s with the big v8 engine that’s hard to get . And it says the contents of the van have to be taken off that plus the weight of the trailer . My car trailer is 2300 and all the tools I drag around I don’t know what they would be my 03 van is dead so I can’t get it weighed . If they weigh 2500 inc me driving that would be 4800 . That leaves 5200 lbs to tow ie a car or suv . It’s very confusing
Thank you for the content my man. I’m about to tow a 24 foot long boat with the same van. I just wanted to make sure it would be able to handle it. I’m driving one way 130 miles wish me luck.
This is my 4th express van over the years. Blew a couple of transmissions, one in a 3500 with a 6.0. No regrets though, they’ve always were ready to work and helped me support my family! I made it home fine with my new toy. Just a little apprehension towing something longer and heavier than my van. Thanks again, I will be watching your videos. Stay blessed brother!
Just started looking at the Express, as we need to replace an old pick, that is back to farm truck. Need two vehicles that can tow, in case of evacuation with our fires here. But needing a wheelchair and also space for dog crates. So instead of a pick up with a canopy, the van makes a lot more sense. It will not handle our camper (11500 lbs dry weight), but I think the livestock trailer will be fine? So hoping to find a 2500 or 3500. Thanks for this, love there is an alternative to the pick up. 👩🦽
@@TerenceDIY Good think you mention engine size. Will be looking at an '04 2500 and has the 4.8 engine. Unfortunately already high km's, so will depend on overall condition. Thanks again 👍
@@hamaarahof5712 , If it runs great, you should definitely consider grabbing it. That 4.8 is one of the greatest engines ever produced and I've owned every LS engine and worked on many different other engines.
@@TerenceDIY Yah I wasn't sure at first about the higher kms, but sounds like regular maintenance and seemed okay. So we have ours now too, we bought it.. Will get the hitch installed on the weekend and than checked for what else it needs. Looking forward to road trips and have a back up towing option to the farm truck 🚛 Thanks for the great content here, might have not followed through otherwise! 😉
@@hamaarahof5712, a very important tip I'll leave you with.... Change the oil every 2500 miles and you will get longevity out of that engine. I know that is a little frequent, but I know those engines well. I am actually creating a video about my Chevy Suburban oil change and how I am going to get a lot of life out of the engine. Once again, thank you so much for watching.
Yes, yours is a baby. If you keep the oil changed within the 3k-5k mile interval range on that engine (depends on the oil you use), you can get 400k miles easily. The 4.8 is one of the greatest engines of all time. Thanks for watching!
From experience... you'll be fine towing a car or truck on a flat bed trailer... just not a daily tow truck anyways. Had an old 94 4.3 chevy c1500 I used to haul my vans when they would break down. If you have a long enough trailer or can level the load with out making it tail heavy your good to go. Otherwise a dolly is best. But you can tow a flatbed too you just gotta use your brain and understand you won't be going fast
My van had 333k miles during this tow mostly highway miles. The van drove amazing and was pretty good on gas even when I towed. That 4.8 liter engine really performed well. I am guessing I got around 13-15 MPG when I towed this truck. Thanks for watching!
Nope, it makes no difference. The only thing I would recommend when towing with the express van is using a 2500 or a 3500 even though the 1500 will manage. Thanks for watching.
Dave, that 4800 is an incredible engine. Will it struggle a little to pull that much weight, probably so however, I would not be surprised if it pulled it off. It's one of the greatest engines Chevy produced. You're transmission is definitely capable to haul that much weight just make sure your fluid is tipped off. Thank you so much for watching.
4.8L is no slouch. Never came with displacement on demand either. Reliable and powerful enough for my occasional towing needs. Cheap to keep on the road as well
I have towed a 7,000lbs RV, no issues with my 2500 van.
The uhaul has hydraulic brakes that actuate when the trailer moves forward when your van brakes.
I have a 2011 chevy 2500 too! with 178k miles on it. still drives like new!
Hell yeah I was looking for a video like this thank you
