I pull a 32' 8500lb Grand Design with a 2014 Chevy Express 2500 with the 6.0L. I use an Anderson weight distribution hitch and have SumoSprings on both the van and trailer. I installed a Detroit TruTrac limited-slip differential in the rear for traction and am able to back the trailer uphill with one wheel on gravel and one on pavement so I never felt the need for 4WD. Tows like a dream with no sway and can pull 60mph up through the mountains. With the middle seats out there's plenty of room for my 2 German Shepherd Dogs, and my wife can go lay down on the rear bench, get sandwiches or drinks from the cooler, and I even carry a porta-potty so we don't have to stop too often. I've owned one pickup and four vans in my life, I definitely think a van is the way to go!

Yeah I'm totally digging this Van. Hopefully I can finish the build out before my next CAT deployment!

@@vanlifeadjustments Look into the Detroit TruTrac for the rear diff, total improvement in traction, especially if you're towing and never know where you're going to end up. Mine was about $1k installed.

What kind of mpg do you get ?

    • @vanlifeadjustments
      @vanlifeadjustments  8 місяців тому

Best I have tracked is around 15mpg highway. I haven't towed my trailer long distance yet.@@SandeepCreationsLV

@@SandeepCreationsLV I average around 15mpg overall (city and hwy driving), 9 ~ 10 pulling the trailer. I had a class C and a class A before, always seemed to get around 10mpg. I guess wind resistance pushing a big square box down the highway is the determining factor over what you use to push it.

I used an auto jack for a couple years with a weak camper battery.
I just plug the 7 pin into the van. The jack will work off the van battery, if you are wired properly.

I've pulled a 30' Airstream with a 2018 Express 3500 6.0L...no problems whatsoever. Yeah, no 4 wheel drive, but these vans offer enormous cargo capacity plus protection from theft and weather elements. Smart choice overall.

Yeah thx!! Totally Digging this Van! Now I just got to go through and pull out all the extra wiring the government put on the inside.

Using a van to pull a camper is a great idea. I've only seen that combination a few times out on the road. Your screen name gave me the idea to check your channel for content.👍🏾

Thanks, Hopefully be able to complete the build out by this next spring. I am a catastrophe insurance adjuster building on off-grid claims processing office out of my Van so I can save money on deployments. We pay a ton for housing on the road. One step at a time, will be pulling my RV in the meantime!!

I've always pulled with a van. Best case scenario imo

I've always had a truck, but now the Van is my best option for work and was pleased with the performance. I specifically wanted the 1-ton chassis for this reason. Excited about the conversion into a mobile off-grid office. 😁

You can get a couple rolls of sound deadening and fix how loud it is in there.

Thank you soooo much for this video ..I was wondering myself.. and to see it makes the difference..what's the specs of the can and how big of a trailor is tht

The van is a 2008 1 ton 3500 chevy express extended with a 6.0 V8, the trailer is a 26 ft Thor Wanderer Glide Light. Empty the trailer weighs 3600 lbs. The Van tows real nice...FYI I had to get commercial financing for the van because it was a 1 ton. Couldn't find any personal financing lender because of its size and towing capacity. Glad my video was helpful!

LOL Yeah the spot they gave me has a weird angle in the storage lot. In the video, I edited out the 20 times I got in and out of my van lol. I used to be a behind the wheel school bus trainer, teaching someone how to parallel park a 40ft school bus was fun!

I have a 2020 Chevy Xpress 3500 work van Shorty and I put 8000 pounds in the back of that thing all the time it has no problem driving plenty of power stopping. No biggie. My power planet is the 6.0 LS. 🇺🇸💪🏼
