I bought my P4P V2 last year brand new from DJI to replace my older P4P V1 which i had own since 2018, they are still a great drone with amazing image quality. thanks for comparing with the Mavic3
Just a tip for Mavic 3: Switch the obstacle avoidance mode from Bypass to Brake for it to fly more smoothly. The APAS (bypass mode) feature is what makes it fly weird.
I’ve noticed personally I get caught up in the “I NEED THAT NEW SHINNY THING!” But I’ve managed to hold onto my various aircraft and am super glad I did. Everything has its purpose and if you’re into this long term you’ll end up happier keeping the older aircraft around rather than constantly selling to upgrade. In my humble opinion of course.
I got all excited and demoed a Mavic 3 thinking it was time to buy. It's nice. However, after shooting log and a lot of experimentation in post, I still prefer my EVO II Pro 6K. I find the files more predictable and it responds to a wider range of visual processes and treatments. With DJI it always feels like everything is still flat, or too overblown. Some real competition in the drone sector would be nice too.
The Phantom 4 Pro really holds it own against these newer drones. One of the great drones of all time. But I could tell the Mavic 3 video was better overall, but that doesn't mean the P4P video wasn't very good also. Great testing Ken, and thanks for sharing buddy.
You are so right Ken. No need to always get the latest shiny thing when your current shiny thing works just fine. I figure I'll think about getting the Mini 3 P in, oh, 2-3 years. No rush.
Ken, I really like your videos because you are not bound to the latest drone and you always have a great story. You did your research on the reservoir, provided awesome drone footage, and compared 2 awesome drones in the process. Keep up the good work. You deserve a nap Ken. lol
One difference between the two drones that you can't compare on UA-cam is bitrate. 4K video on UA-cam is compressed down to around 45 Mbps, yet original video is recorded at 100 Mbps for the P4P and at 200 Mbps (I believe) for the Mavic 3. As a P4P pilot, I'm curious about what kind of difference that doubling of the bitrate has on video quality.
Transportation drags aside, I'll not need to upgrade my P4P until it breaks. It provides me everything I've needed in a drone since 2017! And super stable in windy Scotland.
I still owned my p4p v1. Proudly say it produces way better photo and video result compare to my inspire1.. and this 2022 with my p4p i have no problem to produce good video and photo quality that match this 2022 era.
For me the biggest advantage my older P4Pro has over all the newer Mavic lines is having the ability to switch it (via a physical switch) to A / Atti mode. I’ve had an instance where my P4Pro would not respond to controlled inputs and started doing its own thing, I just flicked the switch to Atti mode and I regained full control.
Great comparison and it shows what can be done in just 4 years, I still think the 4 is not only the best flyer but the safest. Thanks for sharing Ray K UK YNWA.
I was able to spot the difference, not by looking at the image quality, but because of the stabilization difference between them...While hovering the mavic 3 looks a little bit more stable. The phantom seems more reluctant to hold its position. I had the phantom 4 pro for a few years, so im familiar with it. Great video guys, keep the good work coming!
I came here looking for inspiration to finally upgrade from my P3P that I bought all the way back in 2015. I really like the Mavic you showed here, but that thing looked crazy when you engaged in defensive maneuvers! And no realistic hand catching due to the compact body is also a downside when you launch/land on boats/docks. Maybe I just need to try one out before I get cold feet!
Just bought a phantom 4 v2 as I found landing my mavic 3 on a boat a little bit nerve wracking, I agree the mavic doesn’t fly all that well I think I’ll have a lot of fun with the older phantom
When I stepped up to high quality drones, I bought a used DJI Spark although it was several years old. The Mini 1 had just come out but that Spark was fine for me especially considering my other good drone was a Yuneec Q500. About 6 months later I bought a secondhand Air 1. Yeah the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom were out but I was plenty happy. I had good camera quality and obstacle avoidance for the first time. Then I wanted something brand new, a fresh release. Off of Ken's suggestion (and his link in the description of one his videos) I bought a brand new Air2s. Oh I love my Air2s so. So much so that I'm normally too afraid to do anything with it. So I normally fly my Air 1 that I mentioned previously. Can you tell a difference in footage, yes. Is it that big of difference for most things I do, no. So as Ken said and I learned, the next new drone will always be the most exciting but what you have probably would still do the job. But if you wanna buy one anyways, click the link in one of Ken's videos 😉. (This comment was in no way sponsored or solicited. It is purely a statement of my experience and opinion.👍🏾😄 And yes i do still have the Spark and Q500)
I went from Q500 4k to P4P. My biggest gripe with the q500 4k was the range: 175 meters max. With the P4P, my record is slightly above mile (and that's before I had a Raptor SR panel antenna installed to the remote on the P4P).
@@DurtyB98 well, that 175 meter range in suburban areas with 4g and wireless coverage really impeded using the q500 4k for real estate photography. The geo-fencing and no nfz-free firmware also sucked. The one good thing about it was the low speed sensitivity. I still want the 6 rotor typhoon H, mostly as a toy, modding and for video but unrestricted nfz-free possibly hacked firmware is a required prerequisite.
Hi Ken, so what am I missing? I just picked up a "Slighly " Used PH4 V.2 for $421 tax and shipping. 3 Batteries and the "Old Style" controller (Whatever) The one you can put a Tablet in. OK so on Amazon Just that controler goes for over $ 600 bucks. LOL then if you put in Phantom 4 V.2 and search there are so many prices that come up. From say 2K to 3500 K I can't tell the difference? Is there a difference? Also good price right? Pics look clean, got it off Mercari, but I've seen others on there from 450 to 1200. Why the descrepencie. To me a Good Drone (DJI no less) iS a good drone. Thanks Ken.
The P4p will always be King! Yeah, I know the M3 is cool, and I can only hope to get the life out of a M3 like I have out of my P4p's. Plus, whenever they come out with something new, I get to hang with my buddy Ken. So there's that.
I have always wanted the p4v2 but its always out of stock unless I wanted to buy it on amazon for 1000 more. Cool video, love your content! Your the coolest old guy I watch. Since I am on the brink of old guyness, it's probably natural that I love your channel!
Well Ken I felt had to comment No doubt the p4p is a great drone with a great camera here it comes BUT props get in some shots, yaw too hard the camera flips, it's huge no one wants a big lump anymore, the p4p is the past some might say a dinosaur of the drone world, are you relating to this 😉 haha. Great video left a like for you buddy 👍
Good comparison. It is definitely not necessary to upgrade all the time. I have a Mini 2 and know its limitations, but most of the time they're completely irrelevant to me and I can fly this thing without a license almost anywhere (I'm in Canada). Enjoyed tho poop reservoir too 😁
You are right, the Phantom 4 Pro is an incredible drone even today: I have two Phantom 4 Pro Plus (Obsidian and V2.0) and I'll never sell them! Greetings from Italy! 🙂
I have p4 pro v2 and i can't ever see myself upgrading. Thing has been extremly solid since day 1. Can't get much more than a 1.5 miles range wise. Never had a close call with it.
Have you ever had a yaw issue where the camera slowly moves with the 2.0? I've been thinking of getting a 2.0 but there's been some people saying the 2.0 has a yaw pitch problem.
i work with drones in built up areas. Flying the P4 pro is a nightmare especially when there is winds. It doesn't hold gps signal as good as the mavic 3 as well. The actual p4 pro picture quality is also way inferior to the hasselblad 4/3 cmos sensor the mavic 3 has. All factors considered, I would fly the mavic 3 over the P4 any day.
Hahahahaha, save the best for last 😀 I would LOVE to see Dana Co-Host again. Touring, and busy, and bla-di-bla.. Sure, but come on Dana!! TNL is cool too 😍😍
My issue with the P4P is wind. I shoot real estate photos and have had to shoot on windy days often this Spring. By that I mean gusts of 20 - 28 mph. The P4P's gimbal gets knocked out of alignment by the wind and I have to land and reboot the drone to reset the gimbal (which is not practical!). Would the Mavic 3 Classic handle the wind better?
I have different drones and now also the new Mavic 3Pro. DJI Inspire 2, Mavic 2 enterprise, Autel Nano +, Phantom 4Pro2.0. Europe has new drone rules. The Phantom 4 drone is allowed within 150 meters of the city. A1 - up to 900g drone - permitted flight in the city. A2 - up to 4KG drone - Allowed in the city, but at a distance of 30 meters from people. A3 - Up to 25KG drone and allowed from a distance of 150 meters from the city. In Europe, drones must have Class C markings, which designate the category in which drone flight is permitted. The DJI Phantom 4 drone has no class marking and is allowed 150 meters away from the city. This was the main reason I gave up on the Phantom 4 drone. Instead, I have the new DJI Mavic 3. When I'm in a safe location and away from the city, I take the Inspire 2 drone with me :-)

Even though I own an M3 and P4Pro I had convinced myself that they weren't that far apart after watching UA-cam comparisons. But I was pulling all my drone footage ever into one place and man it wasn't even close, the P4Pro looked like crap compared to the M3. Like same difference in quality as the P4Pro had from the original Mavic. UA-cam compression just puts them really close together, but if you get footage from both on a computer you can tell which is which instantly.
