Not happy with it, it wasn't the same so I got myself a C30 D3 SE Lux and doesn't it pull when you put your foot down - I love it!
Nicest c30 I've seen. Beautiful colour, and one of the only hatchbacks I actually like. I have an '06 s60, lunar gold metallic, with sport seats, 17" rims, cream interior with wood trim.. love it! Built in Belgium.

Nice C30. I almost bought one over here in the states but I hesitated and lost out on it. I do plan on getting one in the near future. All the ones here are gas/petrol. I didn't even know they made a diesel engine for it until I came across your video. Have to say I love the color and nice video! Take care and stay healthy!
In North America, we didn't get any diesel options. My 2013 is a T5 Petrol w/ the Polestar upgrade. It can get ~8.5L/100km in mixed city/highway driving, but it's pretty boring to drive it that way. More interesting driving gets me ~10.5L/100km. I think you summed up all the best and worst bits for the C30. In the end though, I love mine. It's such a joy to drive, and it doesn't look like anything else on the road. It also doesn't look like it should be as much fun to drive as it is either, which is a plus for me.
I was also surprised to see that despite your car having so many options, it didn't have power seats. I love the memory seats. It moves back to my spot after my wife has driven it because the memory setting is connected to my key.
I do kind of agree with your engine "complaints" but now sadly they killed all the 5cyl engines and now Volvo is another manufacturer with crazy overpowered non reliable 4 bangers :( I got a blue 850 T5 with 412'000kms and my mom has a 850 R with roughly 315'000kms. The seats from Volvo are absolutely amazing. Last year me and my gf drove to barcelona, wich was about 14hrs (we're from switzerland) of driving. We arrived in barcelona at 01:00 and slept in the boot. No back pain or whatsoever after sitting that long, truly amazing car, I love it. Keep doing these videos :) and very nice C30 ;)
Nice! I had a 2011 R-Design M66 for a year that I really enjoyed. Had all the stereotypical issues such as the sunroof drains leaking, etc but it drove like a go kart which made it a fun daily.
Hi Emily I found your page by accident as I was looking at the Volvo C30's and now my partner wants to get one as her next car. I've been into another Swedish make Saab for a number of years and just love my 9-5 Aero just want to say I loved watching this review x
Had an S60 2.4T back in the day and loved it. Modded my exhaust, video on my profile. I've been meaning to get back in the Volvo gang. Just as long as the prices on the S60 Polestars go down...
I have had loads of Volvo’s 3 series, 4 series, s70 and more laterally had a 59 plate twin turbo d5 v70 R-Design lux. It was an awesome car, which made a great sound etc, but the auto gearbox was not good enough for the engine and also the thermostat went on it. On earlier versions of the v70 that was an easy job, but due to Fords involvement, they decided to stick it down the back of the engine and the amount of labour involved to change it was just ridiculous. Also it didn’t have xenon lights and the halogens were useless. So ended up selling it. 🙄 the new range of Volvo’s are pretty nice and I think they have expanded the petrol options compared to previous years. Nice C30 though Emily 👍
That was quite entertaining, and sufficiently informative. lol! I'm in the process of upgrading the entirety of my 2011 C30 R design, and I agree with you on the look and bespoke-ness of these cars. Thank you!
Always wanted a c30....... but years later I brought an xc60. Great cars, definitely very comfortable. I have the d4 2.4ltr 5 cylinder , was definitely sold on the 5 cylinder growl
I love the rebel blue also - ah I had a 2011 D4 R Design in silver - I loved it especially the ease to maintain it especially changing and cleaning the head lights / light bulbs - niggles - as it was parked outside it would be cleaning the window seals which collect alot of debris and even green nature gunk, but top tip was to use a ice lolly wooden stick and soft sponge to keep it fresh. Also the green console was kind to the eyes but would have preferred the later V40 interior colours with digital display. The rear parcel shelf designs were fiddly but I had the flexi one the T5 has the rigid design. We also have a C30 T5 Polestar and this one has now over 60,000 miles so a few more niggles to live with - cost of servicing & mounts / drive shafts. However this is in black and I agree walking to and from this car when waxed up is full of smiles. How easy was it to remove rear wiper? The rear gets really dirty anytimes it rains so kept it on
As someone who's never owned a Volvo newer than 2008 I don't mind my S40's dashboard. I don't really care about what technology I have on the dash because I'm there to drive, not facetime and shuffle through my 100 song playlist. I'm honestly just glad to have the aux cord

Subbed. Started driving lessons after years on a motorbike after seeing a Z4 coupe and wanting one.. but saw one of these after and really want one. You've sold it to me. Love them. Such a nice car.

Sometimes the older basic stuff can mean less things to break and In this day and age can mean all the difference, planned obsolescence is a pain, other than that this is a beautiful car 👍
Emily shields 🌟 I think you your probably the best ambassador Volvo could ever have .you're passion shines through .please don't go back 2 work when lockdown is over just keep making UA-cam video 😉
With out question you could sell volvo cars .at a senior level your knowledge and professional approach mixed with that cheeky humour is a perfect formula.👍
I had a C30 r design 1.6 petrol for a little bit, due to selling issues with the dealer i returned it. How ever, the Volvo C30 is a fantastic car for the 3 days i got to drive it (then broke my foot , then had dealer issues) loved the stereo, the seats are comfy as Fuckkkk, the back seats have more room than youd think, my pal sat in the back roughly ft6,3 ft6,4 and he said he felt comfortable . The car feels solid when driving by lorries you don't feel wobbly when you drive by them on the motor way. My only issue really i found with the car i had for the short period fuel Economy is poor i did 145 miles and spent roughly £25 to £30 , so bare that in mind
Here is what I found if you ever want to find updates for your 2008 c30 as well as your 940 so now you have a place to find and possibly buy aftermarket parts for both of your cars Emily 🌹
Just got one with 26,000 miles. Am hopefully going to have some luck with this car. Your presenting was great, compared to a standard review, luved the ducks. Gem of a review.
I’ve never owned a Volvo and never really thought of getting one, but yours does look nice and the only thing I would want to update is the stereo system with a touch screen infotainment one.
@@1972dsrai because touch screens give no tactile feedback, meaning you have to take your eyes off the road to mess with the radio, i heard some cars even have heater controls on touchscreen! I like being able to access diagnostics, but have a big problem with touchscreen 'infotainment'.
D Can Most of them vibrate or make a noise to tell you you’ve pressed something, so yeah there is feedback. Could always just not take your eyes off the road
@@CJax749 yeh but you know full well that's not the same as a knob/button, I can do everything on the radio in my 940 without looking: change volume, radio presets, change source. There is no way you could do that 10 times out of 10 with a touchscreen. Other than 'decluttering' the dash, i just don't see the point of touchscreens
These Volvo 5 cylinder diesel engine are very unusual because they growl under acceleration.... If you have ever driven a 2.0-litre TDI Golf, or 2.0-litre TDCI Ford Focus, those 4pot diesel engines sound exactly the same...they just sound like (to quote emily) "vanilla-bitch" diesel engine.. Whereas these 5 cylinder Volvo diesels when idling they sound quite rough and old fashioned, but when you put your foot down, they make a very pleasing offbeat growl and it makes you want to put your foot down... So listen if you can't afford to run a T5 (which is VERY HEAVY on fuel) then a D3/D4/D5 is a very good choice in these C30/S40/V50/C70 cars.
I've had all sorts of cars. Petrol and diesel.... And some 5 pots.... Mainly had Honda.... But got sick of that. Mate swears by volvo and bought an old v70... She's in good nick and cost 800 quid. Full history and hasn't missed a beat... So Mr Honda guy (me) went and got a 5 pot diesel... Not major on hp (150) bit has buckets of torque and that makes the difference.... And yeah... The GROWL... No vanilla bitch diesel here either! And it'll be tweaked soon 😂😋
@@drd6416 I fucking hate working on honda engines (well stuff like 1997-2003 accord). Everything under the bonnet is designed in such an awkward way.... yes they are reliable but they were also very fussy with stuff like idling issues..and everything seems to use 12mm bolts where most cars would be 13mm. Who makes better engines between Honda and Volvo? I think Volvo do but it's very close to call.
I’ve got a P2 V70 D5 and she’ll drink fuel if ya floor it everywhere. Great on motorways and if you drive sensibly but she a thirsty bitch when she wants to play
I’ve currently got a d3 v50 that is an absolute joy to drive but I don’t need anything that big anymore so I’ve got my eye on a c30 in the same spec as yours but in red. I think they are a gorgeous and underrated car.
Emily shields , just recently got my C30’s D3 R design written off so after another and going to remap it to stage 1 , is there a big difference in power and do you know the 0-60 time at 205bhp , also love the black grill makes it stand out 😀
I have a C30 D5 r design. I disagree on the interior. I think it's aged very well. Although i think the steering wheel is oversized. Most of the parts that have failed on mine have been the Ford parts. Good luck for anyone looking for a T5 r design hardly any for sale!
Got to love the lower end torque (combined with good mpg) of performance diesels. Often folk who hate haven't been in one since 1995. At one point I was counting how often you said 'literally' :)
Got a c30 Had it remadded stupid quick was ok standard but agreed with your points mines ice white with all r design leather seats and kit great torque love it
i had a ford fiesta zetec (5 door 1.4L 2002) and love it then i went to a volvo c30 r design 1.6L diesel 2010 and i feel in love this car it is amazing i get 50-65 mpg, i love the fact that it has 6 gears and the torque it has is incredible my insurance worked out out £200 more (i am 20 and have 2 year no clams) i couldn't be happier, the only down side is it has 3 doors and a bit annoying that i have to get out to let people in but i cant find any other problems with the car
...i was trying to lean AWAY from a 2004 S60 turbo but there IS a S60R i like even more thanks in part to EMILY!!! =) Indianapolis to St Louis, 240 miles and a smile!!!
The thing i love about having a rebel blue Volvo. It look incredible, it drives heavenly, mine is slow as fuck because its a D2, but style and quality is so much better than anything else in its price class. There is no better car to get than a rebel blue Volvo if you want to have something different and amazing
This may be off topic from the c30 review but you could bolt on a t model Volvo engine for Vera if you wanted to to increase the power under the hood or you could get the turbo setup for Vera to boost it more and if you wanted to you could mirror the color of your c30 to Vera which you like the color of your c30 to make your 940 to look like your c30 just giving you possible ideas you said you didn’t want to wrap your 940 that I remember clearly it is expensive for such a big car and plus the wrap would fade and bubble up and flake away faster the only way it would not flake or bubble up from the body would be to double clear coat it or a saramic coat it twice to have the wrap last longer or to have the existing paint to be buffed out to restore most of the paint and to touch up the gray areas of the paint such as the bumper but idk I think that you could do a vw rabbit diesel swap on the 940 to make it more fuel efficient if that makes sense to you at all yes I put a lot of thought into my comment suddenly but oh well I really don’t care what everybody will say you appreciate positive feedback and dislike negative comments that I can sense in you for the most part
T 2902 when Volvo went purely to 4 cylinder diesel and petrol. It’s been the easiest it’s ever been. The number was just down to power outputs. It was during the ford/Volvo era that it was a pain the D4 badge could have been placed on 4 different engine.
Loving the videos. I personally have the 1.6d R design C30 pre facelift and absolutely love it. Was my dream car for a long time. If your going to the Volvo 600 hope to catch you there. Keep up the good work
poowar the 1.6s sound great with a good exhaust too! The pre facelifts are also massively growing on me recently👀 I will be at Volvo 600 providing the event still goes ahead, hopefully see you there 😁🙌
I had Volvo s40 with the 2.5liter petrol engine. A few things I didn't like about that car. -Drivetrain (fwd or shitty haldex awd) -Can't really change the radio - cv axle problems when lowered -was kinda slow imo (It did a have a tune but nothing else really)
i just bought a c30 2.4 (petrol)2011 as my first car...I know is kinda old but is so cool, sounds like a baby viper and has a smiley face in the back if u look closely XD...(i meant, if u look the tail lights are the eyes and the windshield and trunk are the mouth).d
"I could imagine as a full family it'd be a pain in the ass", I am driving a C30 1.6D Drive, I have 3 dogs, a son and my girlfriend, we make it work out perfectly fine, the only downside would be that there is no coverage between the backseat and the trunk, which in terms make the dogs visit the backseats occasionally! But others then that it gets the job done :D
70 pounds to fill it up? Good god your fuel prices in the UK must be insane! In the US it cost only $36 or roughly 24 pounds to fill up. That's with the 250hp 2.5L petrol engine and a 477 mile range.
Volvo's are the nuts.ive owned 2, a T5 V50 which was an animal for a big heavy car and my current D2 V60 R Design.Would love to get a V90 T5 but will have to wait and see.
She talks about that interior being outdated but boy is it better than that shiney plastic dust attracting **** in "modern" cars. Oh and how you can see smudges easier. As many times as I have looked at other cars (I've had my t5 since 2012) I can not find anything worth my time. Only issue I have had was thanks to that Sirius Xm radio, when you locked the door it wouldint shut off even though I havent used it in months. Cost me $600 USD for a software update.
I thought you were going too talk about, leaking sunroof drains, going through multiple axles, and multiple A/C compressors. But at least it won’t need piston rings like the newer 5 cylinders.
Just remove the cover in the trunk. I also have a C30, I also have tinted windows (the darkest there is), I do not see shit in my car - when it is daytime. X)
Hi Emily,i am after a Volvo estate V70..i have seen a few,i use estate car for courier work..Love the fact Volvo have full leather interior, mostly automatic, alloys, full electric sunroof and plenty of nice stuff.. your very cute blonde too..
For a few parts you could do worse than look at Heico... There's loads of forums that have bits and bobs on too..... I was advised that if you had a 5 pot c30 it's a 2.3 or 2.5 (I forget) which was then tinkered with in the newer v40s but downsized to 2 litres.. Older ranges (before they had the new tjor jammer headlights) were a mixed bag of 4 and 5 pot motors (diesel) but newer ones are all 4 pot. . The c30 has quite a weird lineup as you say... A small 4 pot that drinks.... Then a few nice petrol and diesel... But the snorter is defo the 5 pot diesel... Mine scares people when I hoof it as its up thru the revs dead quick!
Great video!! i recently bought a facelifted v40 and relate a lot to your love for the C30, despite all things that feel off or outdated. Why does Volvo love Numpads so much?!?
I have a 2008 Volvo C30 T5 R-Design (usa) 2.5 turbo with many modifications, and I beat on it daily. It's hard not to. They are very reliable cars. Wont buy any other brand after owning a few Volvos. lovee theem
Never really thought much of these cars but this one does look banging it’s stanced well and the sunroof is a nice wee extra well smart, on yourself Emily 😎👌🏻!!
Get a d3 in any volvo (check it has a 5 pot it a 4 pot) and youl grin all day every day. Cheap as chips to run, surprisingly cheap, ultra safe and comfy.... And you'll save money on insurance too....
Considering a used one of these to replace my DS3. Exterior looks amazing, probably better looking than my DS3 is.. but that dashboard is... very outdated as you said. Not sure I'd want to spend a lot of time in it.
Hi Emily! Why did I come across your video? Well I currently have an opportunity to buy a 2006 C30 D5 (well, that would be some kind of "exchange" with my 2009 Smart Fortwo - 1.0 turbo 3-cylinder Mitsubishi engine, only 84 hp but... half the weight of a C30 😉). I also have a 2006 Passat SW 3.2 (VR6 engine architecture, with its quite unmistakable sound 🎵🥰...), which hopefully I'll manage some day to put back on the road again 🙄. Your C30 looks so great IMO 👍. This unique blue coupe, with its 5-cylinder... That reminds me of my Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo (5 cylinder petrol engine, 220 hp). But honestly I prefer the style (at least outside) and the color of your Volvo 😍😍😍. Many thanks for your review (nice you chose to do it in the form of "5 things I love / 5 things I hate" BTW). Wow, I wanted to say, hearing things like "5 cylinders", "torque", "sound of the engine" from a girl just makes me melt... I'm truly impressed about the deep knowledge you seem to have about cars. I would even say it's like you've got some... emotional intelligence about our beloved "4-wheel beings" 😲😄. I felt like totally "aligned" with all what you said... Emily, will you marry me?? 200% kidding 🤣 Being serious now, I hope your love story with your C30 is still lasting!! Kind greetings from France (oh, and apologies if my English sounds weird sometimes... Now you know why 😅) 🚘🚘🚘 🦆🦆🦆

I'm actually amazed how fast your channel has taken off, such consistent views already
Finally someone else who get the name right, REBEL BLUE and not POLESTAR BLUE !!!!!!! Good on you gal !!!
Sometimes the older basic stuff can mean less things to break and In this day and age can mean all the difference, planned obsolescence is a pain, other than that this is a beautiful car 👍
Emily,
Like your natural style, knowledgeable insight and enthusiasm about your car.
Emily shields 🌟 I think you your probably the best ambassador Volvo could ever have .you're passion shines through .please don't go back 2 work when lockdown is over just keep making UA-cam video 😉
Hahaha I wish I could!🤣
With out question you could sell volvo cars .at a senior level your knowledge and professional approach mixed with that cheeky humour is a perfect formula.👍
I've been looking a name for my v70 I love .it' best car ever .do you think I could call it Emily ????🙋
C30 love is the best love,
please make more C30 videos, yours looks really nice (y)
Love the C30, so quirky and different to the rest of the crowd. Great vid keep it up 👍
5 cylinder sound 🤤. Sleeper status, Swedish racing green. 💙
“The mighty Vivian”🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, lol I am in class and I can’t stop laughing 😂, this is the perfect name for it lmaooo
Still have your C30? Opinion on it?
Wow! A diesel C30! So cool, and your enthusiasm for the car is awesome. Looking to purchase a petrol model in the states, we’ll see!
I’ve never owned a Volvo and never really thought of getting one, but yours does look nice and the only thing I would want to update is the stereo system with a touch screen infotainment one.
Why would you want touch screen? its gotta be the worst 'innovation' in the auto industry since electric windows.
D Can Why, it’s better than a standard system and you can link it up to the ecu to access error codes.
@@1972dsrai because touch screens give no tactile feedback, meaning you have to take your eyes off the road to mess with the radio, i heard some cars even have heater controls on touchscreen!
I like being able to access diagnostics, but have a big problem with touchscreen 'infotainment'.
D Can
Most of them vibrate or make a noise to tell you you’ve pressed something, so yeah there is feedback.
30 quid a year road tax.... Fuel costs 50 quid a fortnight for work opposed to 50 a week or more before!
Never considered these cars before, but now I am thinking yeah ! .
Its a bad habit hahaha!
You´re fun to look at and to listen to! Oh, and nice review of the C30 :)
“OoOo i LoVe mY VoLvO” in her intro 😂
Got a c30 Had it remadded stupid quick was ok standard but agreed with your points mines ice white with all r design leather seats and kit great torque love it
Generally a comfortable car but mine used to hurt my leg when throwing it around as my leg would bang into the centre console 😂
i had a ford fiesta zetec (5 door 1.4L 2002) and love it then i went to a volvo c30 r design 1.6L diesel 2010 and i feel in love this car it is amazing i get 50-65 mpg, i love the fact that it has 6 gears and the torque it has is incredible my insurance worked out out £200 more (i am 20 and have 2 year no clams) i couldn't be happier, the only down side is it has 3 doors and a bit annoying that i have to get out to let people in but i cant find any other problems with the car
...i was trying to lean AWAY from a 2004 S60 turbo but there IS a S60R i like even more thanks in part to EMILY!!! =) Indianapolis to St Louis, 240 miles and a smile!!!
The passengers whine about the room or getting in the back??? Let them WALK!!! ;) LOL
The thing i love about having a rebel blue Volvo. It look incredible, it drives heavenly, mine is slow as fuck because its a D2, but style and quality is so much better than anything else in its price class. There is no better car to get than a rebel blue Volvo if you want to have something different and amazing
As a Volvo mechanic I absolutely love the C30, I'm thinking of buying a C30 T5
There is also the 2.4 and 2.4i 5 cyl petrol versions with 140 and 170hp so those are between the 2.0 and T5. Great vid btw!
T 2902 opening up a can of worms when it comes to how Volvo badged their engines lol.
@@RosskoPeeko haha yeah has been a mess. Started to get better but now they are messing it all up again😅
T 2902 when Volvo went purely to 4 cylinder diesel and petrol. It’s been the easiest it’s ever been. The number was just down to power outputs. It was during the ford/Volvo era that it was a pain the D4 badge could have been placed on 4 different engine.
She is beautiful can’t wait to buy a c30
Loving the videos. I personally have the 1.6d R design C30 pre facelift and absolutely love it. Was my dream car for a long time. If your going to the Volvo 600 hope to catch you there. Keep up the good work
poowar the 1.6s sound great with a good exhaust too! The pre facelifts are also massively growing on me recently👀 I will be at Volvo 600 providing the event still goes ahead, hopefully see you there 😁🙌
I had Volvo s40 with the 2.5liter petrol engine. A few things I didn't like about that car.
-Drivetrain (fwd or shitty haldex awd)
-Can't really change the radio
- cv axle problems when lowered
-was kinda slow imo (It did a have a tune but nothing else really)
+1 on the interior, my D4 S60 was a beast but the inside was naff. On the other hand my XC60R interior was peng outa 10 😎
That boot is massive, can't beat a five pot diesel, they sound so much more sportier than a 4banger.
Just bought a C30 D5 love it
I always preferred these to the ST Focus. Have you ever tied the D5 version? I’m after a daily to keep the miles off my other cars.
i just bought a c30 2.4 (petrol)2011 as my first car...I know is kinda old but is so cool, sounds like a baby viper and has a smiley face in the back if u look closely XD...(i meant, if u look the tail lights are the eyes and the windshield and trunk are the mouth).d
"I could imagine as a full family it'd be a pain in the ass",
I am driving a C30 1.6D Drive, I have 3 dogs, a son and my girlfriend, we make it work out perfectly fine,
the only downside would be that there is no coverage between the backseat and the trunk, which in terms make the dogs visit the backseats occasionally!
But others then that it gets the job done :D
Where do i find a girl like this haha
Manchester/Leeds?
The Botox store
@@robotm99 Actually that's called young. You probably can't remember. She is wearing braces on her teeth, that's what's making to have funny lips.
@@szita2000 I had braces a year ago, I'm 21, and my face didn't look like that. You're a dumb simp, and her face is plastic.
Thirsty in 2021 Huh?
65 mpg :OOO Amazing!
My T5 is great, but thirsty hahaha.
I thought you were going too talk about, leaking sunroof drains, going through multiple axles, and multiple A/C compressors. But at least it won’t need piston rings like the newer 5 cylinders.
Brilliant, love the colour prefer grabber blue 😏. Just bought a t5 r cant wait to repaint it
Just remove the cover in the trunk.
I’ve never thought I’ve owned a Volvo in my life honestly. But I still take my P2R over a C30. Currently on BC coils with full 3” turbo back.
Biggest downside was offering it only with 3 doors. My wife loves this car and its perfect for her but she said she wanted 5 doors. I agree.
I like the c70 better. Though the front is pretty much the same.
That foot down feeling I can confirm in the d5 too.
FFS! SMASHING THE SUBS NOW WOMEN!! FairPlay Volvos FTW!!
Great video!! i recently bought a facelifted v40 and relate a lot to your love for the C30, despite all things that feel off or outdated. Why does Volvo love Numpads so much?!?
Great review luv your enthusiasm and the fact you sorted the ducklings ps nice motor
If only I could afford a C30. They do seem class, I'd have to sell my bike though 😂, Corsa C will have to do for now I think
This color is just so amazing! Congrats on the car!
200% kidding 🤣
Being serious now, I hope your love story with your C30 is still lasting!!
Kind greetings from France (oh, and apologies if my English sounds weird sometimes... Now you know why 😅)
