The secrets to many of these Volvo's dating back to the mid to late 90's is just reprograming the ECU.. The motor is beast mode.
It really is. And even stock the T5 in my '12 S60 had to be tamed. It always wanted to take off when i just wanted to roll out of a stop.
ufopulse there was a programme shown on SKY a few years ago, they took a standard T5 engine and upped it to over 1000 BHP and put it in an Icelandic volcano climber!!!!
I've been telling all my friends that the T5 out of my old C70 was the best motor I have ever owned. They don't understand my obsession to rip one out and swap it into my car
I have a straight 5 in my 1998 Volvo XC70. You telling me I can get 450hp out of a simple ECU patch? Please! Something else had to be done.
@@jimmorrison4163 if yours has the 81mm bore instead of the 83mm one it should hold up to 100hp/cylinder.
Changing the connection rods is recommended as they're the weakest part on the engine. If you can find the pistons from a T4 or a T5 they should also hold up for over 100hp each.
The turbo is also a bit too small on the oem engine, but that could also be changed.
the thing I respect jay for is not that he has money and owns quite a large collection of cars, it is the fact that he is not hiding them away from the world and hoarding priceless classics and exotics. He shares them with us, tells us things about them and allows the general public to understand why they are such great cars. The mark of a good man.
That is one of the only hatches that could ever pull me away from my Audi/VW love... what a BEAUTY!!!

I have a "mechanically stock" 2009 Volvo C30 T5 R-Design, 6-Speed with the 50 hp PoleStar engine software flash upgrade. ...phenomenal... Absolutely phenomenal. As a collector, I've owned over 100 cars throughout my life and this is one of my favorites.
how much was the tune... I have the exact same one
@@griffincherewyk1051At the time, two years ago, it was right around $1200 from the dealership. BUT, you can now get basically the same tune from Elevate for around $750 that you can do yourself, AND it comes with the handheld that can be reused for future tuning. Same HP increase and drivability. EDIT: BTW, don't walk, RUN and get the 50 HP tune. It's absolutely game changing for this vehicle with NO drivability change. Throw your money at this now!

The T5 is in the 2016 Focus rs, it's the same colour blue with the same twin exhaust, Ripping off Polestar blatently.

2.3 sounds ok, Whats the point in spending the money on a mustang without a v8? would rather a 5 Cylinder volvo engine for a Focus too.

I always liked the C30. Very cool looking car. I love this one! I like the color too. I would absolutely love to daily drive this ride.

To explain the the blue being called "Swedish Racing Green", you need to know about the phenomenon known as "redshift". The car is so fast that when it moves away from you the color gets redshifted and appears green to the viewer.
I've had my 2011 for a little over two years now, after having several 3 series BMWs. I have been so happy with this car, that I doubt I'll ever buy anything else but Volvo. The V60 or XC60 seem like the perfect next step when the kids come. The service plan and customer service have been amazing, and for such a small car, it's been really practical and versatile. This video is going to be a bad influence on me, making me think about how to mod my baby and get the bhp that you can feel hiding in that engine! And, AWD would be amazing in the snow!

Once you get to know this vechicle it is fun to work on. The C30 has many after market improvements.
No abs, no traction control, I love it! check the volume on your mikes sometimes unequal, love the show !
"Swedish Racing Green" ... ... I Love It!
Volvo needs to take another crack at making/selling a hatchback like this in the States. Even if they have to offer an AWD version since Yanks seem to love their SUV's and Crossover models more then hatchbacks. I have a 2013 C30 with the polestar engine upgrade and it's a dream to drive.
I know they sold the V40 in Europe which was a 4 door with less power then the C30. But the C30 deserves a rebirth for sure. One of the best cars Volvo made in the past 20 years.

Let me assure you, i am Swedish and i know lots of people that without problem get 1000hp in their in-line 5cylinder volvo engines. And yes, those are roadcars.
This car is definitely in my top 10 favorite cars.
so pissed off that I missed out on getting one of these. Guy sold it to the buyer before me before I could make an offer. I loved my GTI, but this was the one ride that could capture the hearts of both VW and STI bros.

Yes but if you are a bit familiar with color blending and look a bit closer, you clearly see that there’s a tad of green tone in the color.
Leno has great taste in automobiles. Absolutely amazing taste. Good luck finding anything else on the Polestar C30 worth watching.

Jay was talking about the Nissan GTR, not Skyline GT-R's. What he's tryna say is that the GTR got him to notice Nissans performance and tuner sector and consequently discovered the Skyline's, Silvias, Datsuns etc

I traded my GTI for a used 2013 C30 R Design on Carvana and it’s really growing on me so far very classy variant of a hot hatch guess I can say it’s geared towards an older enthusiast crowd
I never really got into volvos much but the polestar cars really got me interested in what Volvo can do with sports cars I would not be shocked to see a polestar supercar
I've seen one on the road this past week. Amazing
I have had an 09 C30 for about 6 months now and it's got almost 100k miles on it. Still gets 34 mpg on the highway if I keep it at 70 mph and about 17 around town (the same as my 02 Crown Vic.) I had to take it on a round trip from Salt Lake City, to Western Kentucky, about 3000 miles, and the outbound trip being done in 28 hours. The car is very very driveable, once you get the seat completely adjusted to fit. The most fun was heading east on I 40 from Steamboat springs going to Denver, it's basicly a go cart with a roof and windows. FUn ! except that it was the first time I drove the route and went slower that I would go on a known trip.
I can't wait to get the time to do the trip again !
Ray Main check out sweedspeed or c30crew.com forum, those guys have some some crazy mods plus tons of volvos in Denver area. I love taking my S40 up to Colorado Springs from Trinidad the roads feel like a hot wheels track.

I LOVE machines like these... Volvo with the C30, Lexus with the LFA... or Vauxhalls with the VXR badges... Its like finding out that your dad, who is an accountant, occasionally makes money on the side as an assassin.
I love that unique sound of a 5 cylinder engine. Kinda reminds me of the Audi Quattro.

Jay Leno needs to watch Australian V8 Supercars, the cars actually look like the cars sold on the road and the races are done on road courses. So different manufacturers actually look different but it is still competitive. I think he will love the racing in V8 Supercars....

My Aunt had the 740 turbo Wagon Auto stock. I think 175 conservative hp. It only weighed 3200 pounds. One day I puled out of a gas station and tried to accelerate. The car just crept forward at about 15 mph. I looked back and the tires just went up in smoke. That car was very fast for the day. The older 540 wagon was 300 pounds lighter. That was tons of fun when they worked.

Depending on how good it gets, he might be expanding the collection, thus sharing these great videos with us. You never know. He might get a 1998 GMC single cab pickup, and have Nelson Racing Engines put in a twin turbo 10.3 liter V8 in it and do a couple burnouts.

This is a great hot hatchback. It's a shame Polestar has been reduced to an electric vehicle brand. Polestar should be the AMG of Volvo.

I love my c30 t5 r design. Only have seen two since I bought my 2009 in April. One on the highway the day I bought it and one during Christmas. He (Gibbs) handles perfectly. Goes fast enough to appease my lead foot but doesn't stick out when I need to blend in and not get that ticket. LOL!! My friend and I actually chased down an army guy in uniform on a motorcycle who had passed me, just to blow him a kiss while passing him to thank him for his service. Love the BDU's. His eyes lit up like we had made his day. I'm prior military with a tag and beep sticker from my battalion on the back,so I made sure he saw it when I passed him. I would bet he told his buddies about it the following Monday when he reported back for duty.
