Smoked a bone with boyd. Dave carter ripped a handle of jack daniels went in a drum solo for 10 mins. Dave sketched pictures for all the people that asked for autographs. The night before they did an aucostic set at i want to say it was the beacon theater. Dave walked out in the crowd and handed out 50 invites to the video shoot.

Now that i think about it. I ALSO saw these guys in April of of 95 Easter Sunday. Me and a girl from the vid shoot drove from nyc to Wilmington nc on a fri chilled saw dmb at a field on the airport property. Basically in the parking lot. Big head todd and the monsters played also. The whole band literally walked across the parking lot with there luggage. While Todd was playing. Most epic!

I was a teen playing guitar and my uncle told me, 'If you want to impress me, learn some Dave and come back and we will talk!" He then put on satellite and warehouse and air conducted along and air drummed while making comments throughout about what I'm hearing. I bought Under The Table and Dreaming and learned every song and was hooked! This was before youtube and you couldn't get things at the click of a button. My town didn't have a good record store at the time so some time later I was staying at a friend's house and I was going through his cds and saw Crash which he gave to me telling me that he doesnt know how he came about the cd. I put it on and by the time the first chorus of so much to say was through I knew that I had tapped into one of those watershed type things that I know now come only a few times. My whole family gets together and bond over DMB. Once, several members of the family had a falling out and things were touchy. DMB was playing in Atlanta so my mom and I along with 3 or 4 other friends and family drove to the concert together and while at the gate waiting to enter the amphitheater I spotted my uncle and other members of the family and instantly the fighting seemed ridiculous and we all made up without having to even say a word. I can't explain the feeling of being on the lawn that evening as the sun lowered unto red and all the faces silhouetted in the lights....you all know what I mean I'm sure

Hearing this show reminds me of those first few shows. Some of the best live shows ever put on by any musicians of any period of time on earth. We can all agree to that. If you look at the albums that came after Leroi. No album has had the impact as this early stuff. The jams seem to be conducted by Leroi. So missed my brother. You can see how amazed Dave was during Watchtower. I doubt it was planned and Leroi and Boyd were a classic duo with a Carter and Stephan holding space and rhythm . It is missed every time I watch the old stuff. Dave is awesome but this band would have never been as phenomenal as they are today. Miss the those two so much at concerts. This is my favorite DMB moment. I have gone through obsessions over Carter who inspired me to play drums and Dave later on songwriting. But this sax solo is so damn good. It is Leroi’s soul coming out with stark clarity. I had this video when it was first available in the mid 90’s. This always struck me as pure genius. He even gets a little sassy in his attitude as he plays it. I always fast forward through every live show to hear how the BOWA solo compares to this one. Red Rocks is good but there is something really special on this one.
And Watchtower... fire. Notice again at the end how Leroi tells Dave “go ahead... go ahead.” This Leroi’s finest hour.
The quality here is unreal. Thank you for making dreams come true.
