    Well, Dusty. I'm in London and, at the moment, the temperature is way up in the nineties. I find that the only way to keep cool is to sit with my feet in a bowl of cold water, so I have sympathy with your bison!

    Thank you for taking care of Lumpy. Sigh.
    Once you’ve finished fixing the water valve, you can set up a gofundme for a bison mud spa and hot tub. Fun!
    God bless you guys, you continue to be in my prayers.

And I’m sure Dunbar will do his job since he only has 2 to bread with ! Giving him a break since he did so well for this year . Still waiting patiently for the last red dog !! Love seeing them all ! A great year for you all !

    • @alicemaine8042
      @alicemaine8042 3 роки тому +1

      Problem with concrete is big animals slip and injure themselves badly. Many can't get up and sustain nerve damage or bleed out from internal injury. It's really great you are thinking of ideas to make these beautiful animals more comfortable.

    Contact Vet Ranch, Dr. Matt Carriker's charity. Lumpy would not be a charity case but if you check their YT channel, they have fixed all sorts of extremely challenging cases - they might know a veterinary surgeon who could do it, if your local one can not. Also, what @Pamela Crowell suggested: a vet school might be interested for educational purposes. Poor Lumpy, he has had such hard luck so far, he could do with your help.

    Hahaha! Back in the 1970's, there was an auto waterer designed for horse stalls. It was a small bowl with a paddle that the horses could press with their nose to open the valve. We installed some. The horses figured them out quickly. There are equine hooligans too! Some found it entertaining to hold the paddle down that allowed water to flood the stall!

    I have seen videos where cattle farmers mount brushes on posts for the cattle to rub on, a possible non stress war to collect the shredded winter coat. Do bison rub against trees to get fur off.

    Have you thought about talking to a veterinary school? They might be more interested in attempting to the surgery.

      I watched the update the other day. Lumpy might not make it through surgery and they may not be able to close the muscle either because the muscle shrunk or his intestines are so swollen they won't have enough to close. It seems like a simple procedure, but it's actually not. The plan I believe was to let lumpy live his best life before freezer camp.

      Actually, the OK Vet School's a great idea.
      MD's use mesh, I've watched veterinarians criss-cross stitches across a huge opening to tell the body to fill in big gaps in lacerations where the "skin flap" has died prior to Vet care.
      I saw a dairy Vet take a biopsy punch to transfer good hide/hair punches off a horses neck to the leg laceration to encourage regrowth of skin to cover opening.
      That's what Vet Schools do! Experiment and develop treatments.
      It appears Lumpy is "going down hill." Why wouldn't you let a Vet School try to fix him? I realize it's a risk, but "what IF" They could repair the hernia? Otherwise strangulation of his intestines &/or stomach appears to be hurting him. I think Dusty mentions Lumpy isn't holding or gaining weight.
      Just an idea. Thanks for offering him a safe haven. You & your families were a blessing for Lumpy.
