    I met a German guy in Thailand when we were waiting a light near the grand palace. That traffic light was red for like 10 minutes & there was no traffic and I had to wait with him because he insisted to wait, until an officer came and told us that the light was broken 😂
    Edit: wow I’m famous thank you guys! This happened on Thai’s Labor Day near the grand palace. I remember the road was quite wide, and there’s a huge roundabout following the road so maybe someone can help me to find the exact place😂 I hope that thing fixed now

    As you can see in the background, people absolutely do cross without a light, but it's considered a different thing to cross a small street without a crossing than if you cross on a red light.
    And yeah, always check for traffic and if you see kids around make sure to cross the proper way so they don't get a wrong impression.

      German who waits for green even in the middle of the night (especially because of crazy taxi drivers to be honest and I like wearing dark cloths): Even in other countries I mostly wait since it's just part of my behaviour.
      It should be noted that that doesn't mean that I never jaywalk. It just means that if that as long as the traffic light is 'on my way' I don't see the necessity to break the rules for 1 minute that could land me under a car. (The taxis at the big intersection near my home never seem to look out for pedestrians when turning the corner at green light)

    • @basedpatriotLT
      @basedpatriotLT Рік тому

      @@natsukiilluna6324 at night if no traffic it is pretty easy to see/hear if taxi is coming for you. You can easily go through red without any risk of getting hit if you pay full attemtion if some car is coming

      @@basedpatriotLT Not at that intersection. One it's a part of town where the surroundings are pretty loud anyway (busy nearby streets, train tracks, lots of different types of people, students, all types of establishments etc.) and even most of that dies down after a certain time, the other thing is... that intersection goes 7 different ways^^' So even if you have nearly no one around it's better to be careful and be on the safe side.

      Where I am from, country beside Germany, you have to use the crosswalk if you see it.
      If you don't see one and it isn't a dangerous place to cross, you can go ahead.
      That's hard in my village now that they seriously did a crosswalk every 100-200m in the mainstreet.
      Ps: gets you a fine of I think 50.- if you get caught

    • @jan-lukas
      @jan-lukas Рік тому +1

      Actually the courts disagree on this topic. Sometimes a distance of 50m is enough to just cross the street next to the traffic light, sometimes several hundred meters are too close

    • @allesdurchprobiert
      @allesdurchprobiert Рік тому

      @@wontrespond8064 Wow! Is that in the netherlands? I thought it would be the same in most EU countries.
      I think in germany the official minimum distance to a light is 5m. If it's further away you're not jaywalking. You're just not using the lights.

    • @allesdurchprobiert
      @allesdurchprobiert Рік тому +2

      @@jan-lukas Yeah, I just googled a bit. It's complicated and depends on several things.
      What seems to be ok is: enough distance from a traffic light, being careful and looking left and right, not causing someone to break, not causing an accident.
      Thank god I live in a totally relaxed city of 65000 people! There's no police on the streets. They only come out when they are called, and no one obeys all traffic rules all the time. Which works fine because there isn't that much traffic most of the time on most roads.
      For example I often ride my bike illegally on sidewalks. No problem because there's almost no one else on them. And when there is someone I just use the miracle of breaking and steering. 😉 So crossing a road is something that no one here gives a shit about. I guess in huge cities things are totally different.
      In my car I drive pretty german, tho.
