  • 70,000lb Battery Destroys UA-camr's Trailer! It's not often, if ever, we get a job where the customer has a larger UA-cam following than I do! He's not as active, but still his subscriber count is quite impressive. His channel is here if you're curious: / @ikikardesh
Back the job, this was called in the night before as you see in the beginning of the video. CHP made the call to not allow us to do the job at night, and instead told us to come back the following morning. The reasoning makes sense: traffic was too fast at night and it would be easier to work in the rush hour morning traffic. Alex responded in Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator and Dave assisted in his 40ton rotator.
These lithium batteries are NO JOKE! We do these soo much for various accounts, and the weight is incredibly deceptive. They use these to power casinos, hospitals, events, all kinds of uses. Luckily they look just like a standard container and have the same lift points, which we are experts in. The length of this was short which means the weight was super concentrated. Alex made the call to back up to Dave's truck, since he knew he would be lifting off the corner and he is much stronger off the back corner compared to the front corner.
You'll see in the video how this super heavy battery absolutely destroyed the poor trailer. Welds broke, bolts were sheared, it's pretty much done for. In hindsight, this should have been transported on a lowbed or 3 axle trailer to better handle the concentrated weight. All in all a fun job with a super cool customer that had a great attitude despite having to spend the night in his truck on the freeway.

In my opinion, it really is the wrong trailer for the job. The trailer is probably rated for 80,000 but the problem with a centralized load like that is that proper placement means placing at the maximum stress point of the trailer, which is direct center. Moving the load back far enough to put 40,000 on the trailer axles may have worked but makes the truck want to jack-knife with very little weight on its rears. A triaxle trailer, or a shorter trailer would have been the ticket. In my opinion of course.

33:01 how on earth was dude not ready to pull the truck forward? He just seemed completely oblivious to the fact they were lifting it off so the truck could be moved forward.. These are the type of truckers from other countries that scare the shit out of me on the road. Complete disregard for the fact they have 100k lbs of weight rolling down the road that turns cars and trucks into pop cans.

So CHP didn’t want to close two lanes at night when traffic is decently light-and instead want to close lanes right during rush hour when traffic is the most heavy? How about closing the lanes at 1 or 2am when there is hardly any traffic and the economic cost to the community is minimized-and the danger to the workers is also minimized as there are far fewer people on the road.

Finally understand why LA constantly takes 2 hours to go 20 miles. While I get where theyre coming from on some theoretical level, the idea the CHP would rather leave a broken down semi on a narrow shoulder all night because they want heavier traffic when they do a 2 hour lane closure is mind boggling. Running into a broken down truck is deadly and is the reason its illegal in most places to park on the shoulders. It being out of the travel lane doesnt make it safe. Daylight and slower traffic might be beneficial on one side but jamming it up even further can cause secondary accidents and other issues. A couple DOT trucks to properly block it off shouldnt be a problem, even at night and the lower traffic regardless of speed cancels out the added hazard of darkness in my opinion.
