I loved Marc savard in Atlanta. I was a huge thrashers fan (being born there) before switching to boston in 2010. But not only as a bruins fan but a hockey fan watching that hit live just destroyed me. I was 11 or 12 years old. He was never the same guy after. After that ever single game Matt Cooke was in I put him as a 0 overall and sent him overseas

It's a good thing the Assistant Coaches don't talk to the media. I remember an article Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun wrote where he talked about trying to contact Marc Savard after he disappeared for a while after getting concussed and getting no answer. Apparently that rubbed Simmons the wrong way and several years later, when Marc Savard dabbled in the media, Simmons quipped in one article something along the lines of: "If Marc Savard contacts you, don't answer!" Savard shot back that during that time, he was going through some very tough times due to his post concussion syndrome which is completely understandable! Simmons came off as a real jerk there, something that he's known for...
Simmons is the biggest Leech in the Leafs Media. Being called a Jerk is how he starts his day and that's from his dog. He is a scumbag on the level with Ballard.

Fond memories of Savard in Atlanta. He was one of the unsung heroes behind the top tier talent they pulled in. Wish him success, just not at the expense of the Jets

I won't pretend like I understand if the new coaches are good or not. But I do know that changing what hasn't worked in the past, is a very very good thing. Even if most of the players stay the same this year, I can see a different season from Toronto coming up. That being said, I would prefer if they are adjustments to the roster as well...
Yea, great! We got the power play unit coach of the Flames who finished 24th in the NHL. Geez. Are Atkins/Shapiro running the Leafs? Not sure why all the detail on what kind of player Savard was. Does that make him a good coach?

Leafs obviously have more talent on the PP than the Flames did, but I'm still a little nervous for y'all. Flames PP was a train wreck all year and there was 0 effort into trying to do anything different to fix it. He was a great player sure, but i don't know how good of a coach he really is...

As a neutral, I feel like none of the front office matters until Mariner and Tavares are gone and the cap mix resets to a more regular distributions instead of being this top heavy. 🧡💛🧡
The flames team wasn't that good this season but with the leafs offense, Savard should do better in charge of the offense

To buy into Berube’s system every player would have to make pretty significant offensive sacrifices to play a more defensive team game. I’m sure that will go over very well with the Leafs superstars who rely on putting up gaudy offensive numbers so they can handicap their team by forcing their GM into giving them their ridiculously bloated contracts. What could possibly go wrong with this new coaching staff and this team, tune in next year to find out.

Marc savard will drastically help change our PP! Need to separate the top guys and have 2 insane PP units
Flame PP got way worse when he was power play coach and it took him 60 games, where the Flames had the 30th ranked power play, to make any changes and they clawed their way all the way up to 26th. It was real bad. With mostly the same personnel from the year before. Good luck Leafs fans.

I think when all the changes are looked at together, it's a marked improvement from last season. That said coaching staff vary greatly in results based on the team, and that makes sense. We have to see how they take to the Leafs specifically. But by all rights the Leafs have all the talent needed, so good coaches should be able to get a lot out of them you'd hope.
He's a -6, all the others were +100 on that stat sheet.
Maybe he can bring you some Bruins luck......

I think Calgary has a lousy powerplay because of personnel, not coaching.
As for the cup, I think it is going to Edmonton. I said before game 4, if they chase Bob from the net then they can come all the way back. The Panthers look like a shell shocked group right now. I have zero skin in the game, but tip my hat to the winner for a job well done.

Nice try, but the only way that Edmonton would have won is if they had scored first. The modified 1-2-2 trap system wins again, although the Panthers are a way more skilled team then the Blues were in 2019, but the system is still stupidly effective with a lead and a team that can deploy it to devastating effect. The last two coaches who won the Stanley Cup were coaches who were beaten by that system employed by the 2019 Blues and now they’re champions using that same system, I sense a trend.

David Perron is old and slow
He’s excellent down low and along the boards and he’s got a great shot which makes him an ideal power play specialist. I doubt any team would want him out there in a track meet with Edmonton, but just because he’d be terrible at that doesn’t mean he can’t be highly effective in other situations.
