Glad to hear the changing tune on Villenueve, I really liked the draft pick because I'm easily swayed by vibes/60 and y'all had me worried in that post-draft breakdown. He just feels like he'll be a really good 3rd line guy down the line, like a Dakota Joshua type. I wonder why I and others feel such trepidation about Larsson's contract despite it being the same as the one Esa Lindell got, cheaper than Matt Roy's, and for a player 5 years younger than Chris Tanev. Must be lingering doubts over Francis' offseason spending.
I love him, I do, but just realized today that we are now in the back half of the Gru contract! 🎉😬 But for real, you can do it Gru! Defense should also be better this year!
Shane needs a better goal scorer than Eberle. Eventually it’ll be Rehkopf or Catton. A Kartye type is an excellent second winger for him, someone to cause chaos
Adam Larsson's last contract was signed prior to the 2021-22 season. The cap hit was 4m, 4.91% of the 81.5m cap. His current contract has a cap hit of 5.25m (~31% raise), which would be the same percentage of a 107m cap. I don't think the cap is going up 19m in the next two years, and depending what happens with the new CBA might not go up that much over the life of the contract (or might go up way more than that, who knows). You can argue that he was underpaid before but at the current pace cap increases don't make as much of a difference mathematically as people seem to think.
Sorry, that line of discourse just drove me nuts all summer. I'm glad we have actual hockey to talk about again, and thank you for the training camp insights for those of us not able to be there!
You're absolutely right on that. I'm tired of the "cap's going up" discourse too. I have a mini-rant on that ready for the Armchair GM stream. That's why I tried to use the term "market value" rather than comparing it to his last deal. I could've pushed back a bit when Dylan brought up that point, but then he claimed Lars could've gotten 4x6 on the open market and that grabbed my attention more. -RJ

Totally agree. Culture is huge. This seasons energy is up in a big way. Go Kraken!
