  • At the beginning of the 1950s, Hungary was the best national team in the world and played a very modern style of football, based on collective movement, quick combinations and a few tactical innovations, like Nandor Hidegkuti in a False 9 role. Tactical analysis of what made this Hungarian team so great, based on footage from a 6-3 win at Wembley in a friendly against England, in novembre 1953.

dont forget to also say that this team invented the famous *midfield rotation* which is a tactic that now is mostly used in the front of the field with the strikers

It's truly crazy that a team was playing like this in the 1950s, Hungary was the truly ancestor of modern football

my father was part of the golden program from ages 11 to 18, until the revolution. He could balance a golf club on his nose, like a penguin. When I was 17, I was recruited by my country's national soccer program.

@@davisbaumberger6887 I do now, wow. He was born three years before my father, so I'm sure my father knew him. My father trained with the golden team pretty regularly. I inherited all that soccer genetics, the moment I touched a football, no one could take it away from me, and no one could get by me either. The funny thing is, I was a natural leftie brought up as a righty, so even though I played at about 20% of my overall ability, I was still considered one of the best players in the world. So you can draw your own conclusions from that....

Amazing how free flowing the Hungarians were able to play. Many modern sides could still take lessons from this.

The Hungarians were the foundations of modern football. They completely reformed the game. Puskas was the first player in the world who guarded the ball step by step, and the entire Hungarian team learned this from him. Look at the feet of the Hungarians, how they carefully carry the ball, with every step. Puskas was the team leader, and the biggest reformer.

Apart from defence. But they were so good up front and were 1 game away from achieving everything they possibly could have losing in wet conditions when Germany had boots better equipped for that to nick a 3-2 win from 2-0 down. Sods law for Hungary that they beat the same team in the group stage 8-3.

Too bad HUNGARY in the final of 1954 against Germany forgot how to play at the TOP LEVEL as in most Games before!! Wonder what happened to the Golden Team during the most important Game?? Let me see, Hungary is leading 2:0 after only 8 minutes and losing 3:2 after 90 minutes!! This will never think in!! Or sink in!!
