I also got hooked on the desktop trackpad from using the MacBook Pro. Don't laugh at this, but I go left hand trackpad, centre keyboard, right hand mouse. I keep the keyboard central for comfortable typing.... and going touchpad + mouse when you have to work across multiple monitors and desktops feels like you're in minority report.

you are holding the magic mouse wrong and you are not using it correctly.
try again, there is nothing out there that comes close to this.
forget logitech scrolling this is the usual apple scrolling, 360, speed sensitive, bounceing, and you can brake it with touch and hold.
you have to lay your hand on the entire thing flat down, pppl think this will interact with the touch but no, this is how its intended, and as with every other mouse and keyboard out there you have to use it for months till your muscles adapt to the new form, the natural form.
then you have tested it properly.
there are plenty touch and multitouch functions available, but first you have to use safari and not chrome because chrome does not have all the features.
1 finger doubletap to ai zoom, doubletap again to go back.
2 finger swipe left or right up down etc, there is a built in tutorial.
also you do not have to charge any apple product, you can use the trackpad and mouse for months without a cable.
you can adjust noise, force, forceclick, zoom ffd rwd click etc, there is so much to learn baout this devices,l it takes time.
      test again, properly

Apple’s trackpad game is so far ahead of the competition it’s insane… I knew it was good but I didn’t expect it to be THIS good.
I bought the m1 MBA base model as my first Apple laptop and before that I used to be a windows (for gaming) and Linux (for work) user…
I used to carry around a mouse and I believed a computer cannot be used without a mouse…. Now I actively dislike using a mouse and learnt to love using the touchpad. My mom has an early 2014’ MBA refurbished by a reputable (not certified tho) shop that I know the owner of … it was a bit overpriced at 400-450€ (at the time ) but other than the battery everything was polished and replaced. My mom says it’s battery still after all that usage from 2014 and its performance are much better than her work laptop she got in 2018 when the school she used to work at got state-funded laptops… specs were not bad, for a work laptop but if that old as heck Mac can outperform it and she also hates using a mouse now, you know apple is doing something very well…
She also loves macOS now even though she is above 60 so learning a new os is not easy for her. My dad (70+) also loves using it and says it is great and it is much easier to use after a week or so… for work and stuff Mac is the go to option now…
Gaming is secondary now due to lack of time and the way macOS operates is just way better for everything except gaming

You edit photos with a mouse? I presume you are referencing photos. How do you blend with a mouse? You have a lot less control compared to a tablet (like a Wacom tablet) especially when blending.
I highly recommend you give it a go if you have not tried a tablet yourself, mate. The first week can be frustrating while getting used to it. However, once you become accurate with the pen, you get all the benefits a tablet gives you.
I can’t edit without a tablet now, I find it too frustrating!!

The sounds dropping in and out might be related to your settings. When you connect the headphones the first time, the software defaults to connect to the closest device in their range automatically or to whichever device is playing sound. In which case, if your phone is between you and the computer (or in your pocket), it might competing with the MacBook for the connection. Because of this, all my Apple headphones (AirPods Max, Pro, and the OG) are set to only connect to the devices "when last connected to them." So, I have to manually connect the headphones which I want to switch it from device to device, but it's less of a convenience instead of it switching randomly, especially when you're in a quiet place like a library.

I recently got a macbook as a lifelong windows user. I've used several linux distros alongside windows, and did use macs briefly at University. But I have found it a mixed bag. I only use the macbook away from the desk, so I use it solely with the built in trackpad. It's okay, but I do miss a mouse. Mainly when I am dragging things. I was surprised mac os doesn't have many options for windows snapping out of the box. I also find in visual studio, when doing a find in file, if I want to do find in all files, it does it different to windows to fit in the the mac way, and it's really tedious. A lot of other things like shortcut difference are just because I am so used to windows and standard keyboard layouts being different. One thing that is better is settings. Windows 10/11 the settings are all over the place and sometimes it's hard to find what you want. Also the way it handles audio is much better than windows too. If you have external devices and want to record stuff, it's a lot easier to configure things. Biggest plus for me, is the thing feels pretty solid, the screen is decent and the battery life is great.

    • @DrRobAlexander

@@robwalker4653 For me, the key to making the trackpad great is to go into System Preferences / Accessibility / Pointer Control / Trackpad Options and set the trackpad to use a three-finger drag. It is quick and easy and much more intuitive to me than a tap and drag. If you find dragging on the trackpad uncomfortable in the default settings, give this a try and see if you like it. I agree on the snapping, but there are so many good third party options (I use Swish) that it doesn’t really matter to me. I also had similar utilities under Windows to fine tune things to be the way I wanted. I just see finding the right utilities as part of learning any system.

      Practically - sure. But why?
Apple does weird stuff all time, but the justification for that is usually "we know better" (and in a lot of cases it's true, even though it usually involves limiting users' options). In this case though... just why? There's no reasonable justification.
They could've made the charging wireless where you place it on a dock like Apple Watch. Better yet, make the charger optional and have the awkward lighting position an argument in favor of spending extra. You still can't use it while charging, but it makes sense at least. Or they could've made the front of the mouse a bit taller to accommodate a port there (lighting is a very slim port, it wouldn't even change the design that much).
Instead, you have you're impeccably designed Apple workstation and a mouse laying on the desk upside down with a cable awkwardly sticking out of the middle of it. It's just uncharacteristic of Apple to have that as an official (and only) solution.
I have most of the first-party accessories (I even have another Magic Trackpad on my PC, it's that good) and Magic Mouse is the only one that I just don't understand. I get the idea, but the product feels like it went for the concept phase straight into production and wasn't revisited ever since.

They thought that the sight of someone using it while it is plugged all the time is not to great for the product marketing eg instagram photos or some other shit. So they positioned the port in such way that user is simply unable to use it while charging. It is not convenient for a potential user, but it's not a design flaw, they made it that way on purpose.

If the MX keys had TouchID it would be perfect, they have a new mechanical version with similar switches to the G915 which is amazing BTW. I’m using the black Apple over my MX keys simply because of TouchID. After using it a bit I have found I actually type faster on the Apple keyboard. Hate the Apple mouse, using MX Master three but love the Apple trackpad, ever liked them until I got a MacBook Pro and now hate not having one on my gaming PC. Great Review, very honest IMHO!

I can really recommend trying out the Logitech MX Master 3. It has a special thumb gesture button that allows you to do all the swipe gestures by moving the mouse like "4 fingers" while holding down the gesture button. This way I can keep my sanity in applications that either don't fully support the touchpad or use the mouse wheel for some inputs.
Personally, I also think the Magic Mouse is an ergonomic nightmare, but I guess that's a matter of taste. By the way, you can charge the MX Master 3 mouse while you use it ;)

The MX Master 3 even follows the Apple style by putting something on the bottom of the mouse when it has no reason to be there. In this case it's the device switch button which works so much more consistently than Logitech Flow, but is really inaccessible without picking up the mouse and either awkwardly gripping it or using two hands.
Despite this, it is a great mouse.

number 1 reason for me to still use the Apple Mouse: diagonal scrolling in photoshop! this saves so much time when you're zoomed in deep on a 100MP image for dust removal. Just like the old Apple Mouse with a scroll-BALL instead of a WHEEL, that was such a genius idea. Yes the Logi Mouse can also scroll horizontally, but having to alternate between that and vertical movement to pinpoint where you actually wanna go is really annoying to me in my workflow. the ergonomics of the apple mouse indeed suck big time. Also if you interested in the mouse get the version 1, it runs on AA batteries, rechargable ones that is in my case. ;)
Edit: Biggest fail on Apple's side for me has always been the non-backlit external keyboard, I mean the damn thing has a fingerprint reader built in. xD
They were one of the firsts to implement that with laptops, many other manufacturers by now have everything glowing in RGB like crazy, yet Apple wants you to pay for a plastic slab that you cant even see properly in the dark, not to mention the disgusting ergonomics on those "thin" keyboards. Rather get a Keychron and you'll love it.

The trackpad is an excellent accessory, also works great with the iPad. I really like the magic mouse - the battery lasts forever so the charging @the bottom is not an issue at all, on such a small device, where should they have put ut? On the side would have been unsightly and it’s not as if the cable has to be attached for a long time, I always have a lightning cable on the desk for my phone so I just occasionally attach the mouse to it when it’s not in use and never had an empty battery, same for the keyboard and trackpad. The keyboard to me is the most frustrating: it’s difficult to connect to another device and there is no backlighting.. However I keep going back to the small version as it is very light and small and can easily take it in my sling to pair with the iPad mini. As to the AirPods Max - I don’t experience connectivity issues (iphone 13 Pro, 2 ipads (M1 and Mini) and macbook Air M1), but you may have to reset them (will take a few minutes) and see whether the issue persists, in that case may be a hardware issue and you’d have to get another pair. The one weird issue I have is a bluetooth conflict between Apple peripherals and Logitech MK Keys mini (for mac)..

I laugh at people who make fun of the Magic Mouse's inability to charge while being used; the design is nearly perfect. I use my iMac 8-10 hrs per day and the mouse will last about 2 - 3 months between charges. And a 10 minute charge will give you days worth of usage if you forget. So I hear people like Linus Tech Tips make fun of the mouse for this and yet he charges his phone every single night but can't charge the mouse a few times a year. Ridiculous!
I also find the ergonomics of the magic mouse to be much better than the logitech mx mice. I also much prefer the ergonomics of the magic keyboard - the standard size - because it has no numpad so the ergonomics for my mousing hand is way better and no issues with carpal tunnel like with a huge keyboard with a numpad.
Also, I built PCs for a decade and always had the best Logiech MX mouse and MS keyboards. They always started to look worn and had battery issues after about a year of use then they needed to be replaced. My magic keyboard and mouse both look brand new and have the same battery life now as they did new... and they are 6 years old! I will NEVER use a crappy Logitech MX mouse again (again, I used many of them).

      @Kai-ow4ek 2 роки тому +2

Right!! Well said. I also prefer the ergonomics of the magic mouse now. I used to jump on the hate train but when I started using it, I fell in love with it (lol i sound like such an apple fanboy BUT the magic mouse is underrated)
The mouse feels more natural on my hands (and I have big hands). Since the mouse has a slim profile, my hands can rest on the table and I find it smoother to lift up my right hand to switch to the magic keyboard as they are equally levelled. I sometimes forget that I’m operating a mouse? Which is really magical.
Other mouses feels like I’m holding onto them and getting my hands off them needs me to fully lift my hands. A lot of mouse curves just feels unnatural to me and the magic mouse is kinda a one-size-fits-all solution. I only charge my mouse once every 3-6 months? And I never turn it off ever.
Plus I love that the mouse has no charging port at the front. It’s not necessary since the battery health is amazing and it raises up the mouse, which defeats the purpose of its slim profile. Plus I think it looks ugly.
Latency is also not an issue for me as I mostly do 3D work and light gaming (e.g. minecraft) but if you are a professional gamer, wired all the wayy.
Lastly, I recommend a trackpad + MM combo. It’s really useful for video editing imo

    • @77dris
      @77dris 2 роки тому +1

@@henriks5008 Least functional? How so? You don't need the mouse to function when charging. You charge it a few times a year and get a week's worth of charge out of 10 minutes of use. There is literally NO reason to charge it when you use it. None.
People who complain you can't use this when charging is like complaining you can't drive your car when you fill it up with gasoline (or use your Tesla when you charge it). It's asinine. Actually, the same people who don't mind spending 5 minutes filling up their car every other day, or charging their car every single night, complain they have to charge their mouse every 3 months for an hour at night when they sleep. LOL. Idiotic.

@@Kai-ow4ek Agreed Kai! Yes, I use my computer for work and play, so 8-10 hours every single day. My mouse is 6 years old and still lasts 3 months between charges and looks brand new. Not a scratch. It's made of glass and aluminum, not cheap plastic and rubber like logitch MX mice. I play games quite a bit (Dying Light, Tomb Raider, and other AAA titles) on my iMac and no issues with latency at all. And it never loses connection. And I NEVER turn it off. It's just so slick to use and I came from a PC where I used the best MX mice you could buy (and they broke every 8-12 months). The ability to scroll timelines in Davinci Resolve (or Final Cut) or move around an image in all directions by sliding your finger on the magic mouse is a game change for speed for me. Plus it is silent compared to the noisy wheel and buttons on a logitech mouse.
Why would anybody want to use a mouse when it is plugged in? Makes no sense! Charge it once every season and you are gold! I mean, you can't drive your car when you fill it with gas, or drive your Tesla when you charge it, and you have to do both of those FAR more often (nightly with a Tesla vs a few times a year with a magic mouse).

But, I found a PC laptop for hundreds less than a Macbook air with the same performance in applications I use, more features, more ports, same build quality and I still am much faster in W10/11. What I've always hated about Apple, even when I loved them, is they think they know best. I know best. That 13 inch Macbook Pro and the Macbook Air. They need an SD card slot. The magic keyboard and trackpad are a great combination. There are really nice wood stands for the magic keyboard to put it on an incline if you think you need one. I have the Mx Master 3, magic keyboard, and trackpad. Perfect trio.

Agreed. I used PCs for over a decade and always used the best Logitech MX mice and usually the best MS keyboards. They sucked. After about a year they would look worn (rubber and plastics were cheap), the buttons would start to have issues, and the battery life would severely degrade.
With the magic keyboard and mouse, they are much more ergonomic, and after 6 years they look brand new and battery life is still perfect! So I get about 3-4 months charge on the keyboard and 2-3 months on the magic mouse with 8 hour daily use! And a 10 min charge will give me days of life for both... so the whole complaint "I can't use it while it charges" is complete nonsense.

@@77dris Magic Mouse isn’t bad. My only issue is the low DPI, the other mice and more across the screen faster for me than the Magic Mouse can.

Awesome reviews, man. I can't help thinking you should make a second channel for non-camera stuff 🙂

Great accessories review. Thanks. Headphones are tempting, but not if they struggle with the MacBook. Limited desk space suggests staying with the MacBook Air M2 keyboard and trackpad. I did pick up the Logitech MX3S mouse, though. Will try it shortly although the track pad on the laptop is wonderful. Keyboard and funny little mouse? No.

I just ordered and received the black trackpad yesterday. I love it. Because I have the black logitech MX keyboard and also a black magic mouse and it goes well with my M1 MacBook Pro 16 that I just got a couple of months ago. 👍

Yea I agree, the charging port at the bottom of the mouse was a bonehead move by Apple. BUT, it lasts so long and charges so fast it makes it a second thought for me.
I’m new to using the trackpad. Bought it for my wife three years ago. She never used it so I just started. Man, the feel and gestures are phenomenal. I only use the magic mouse for editing photos now.
Regarding the headphones, I’m wondering if you have some kind of Bluetooth interference. I’ve never had a connection issue with my 🎧. I’ve had them for a year now and I use them at least 4 hours per day between my MBP and iPhone.

I use the Logitech MX Master 3 on the right of the keyboard as I’m right handed and use the Apple trackpad on the left side of the keyboard with my left hand. Once you get used to it, you become way more productive navigating though windows, software etc way faster.

I put the track pad on my left hand side and use my left hand for gestures and right hand for mouse

I normally have the trackpad on my left and the mouse in the right. Obviously for docked scenarios. The gray touchpad is about style. Paying a little more about details on design when it comes to your own studio. It's up to the person if they want to do that or not.
