@LonSeidman so then would this model be used as the back up to something like a DS223? A non fireproof 2 bay and a fireproof 2 bay for backup making it a total of 4 bays?
Would love to see your local Fire Department torch this with flames then drench it with a fire hose with you doing a data recovery test afterwards. Heck, I'd pay money to see that.
Remote backups only work if your have access to broadband internet like Lon mentioned at the end of the video. That's not always the answer sadly, even in 2022
Ha! Do you know how INSANELY EXPENSIVE off site backups are? I have a max of about 100Tb of storage to cover over my various backups and media/file serving devices. And I would assume Lon has even more. At that level you are looking at some THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH or more in cold/warn backup storage fees, at the cheapest rates. WAY TOO MUCH for individuals and families. This is a way better and cheaper solution. Buy two, put it at grannies, put grannies at your house and for LESS THAN TWO MONTHS of those on line guys, your problem is solved.
To follow up, Microsoft sent me an offer just now: Family plan @ 9.99 a month = $2,000 a year for 100TB; Single seat @ 6.99 a month = $8,388 a year for 100TB; and 100GB of OneDrive alone @ $1.99 a month is $23,880 a year for 100TB. Let me say that again: MICROSOFT CHARGES $23,3880 FOR STORAGE ON ONEDRIVE PER YEAR FOR A SINGLE SEAT. THAT IS NOT AFFORDABLE!
Price point for this will likely make this a very niche product. Most people are probably going to be better off with an offsite/remote backup solution
It's kind of funny that the enterprise drives from Seagate, the Exos drives, are cheaper than the IronWolf drives. I guess that's one of the reason they advertise the IronWolf drives more, because they make more money on them.
Looks like it has lots of isolation. Does it help with drive noise. I always end up with laud drives at larger sizes. I gotta find a good place i guess. It always verys.
Do you have to have office to make the Synology office work? I tried it lately to look at a spreadsheet(I don't have office) and all it said was "preview not available... download..." which negates the entire purpose. I uninstalled it as broken and dumb.
If I had the money I would buy one. I already have a regular Synology DS918+ in SHR(single drive redundancy). As well as 2 16TB external drives acting as on site backup. I would totally take this IO safe and put it at my brother's house for offsite backup. Or I would buy the 4 bay version and do Synology High availability
Fire! Fire! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Settle down, Beavis.
Cool concept, also you're the first thing that popped up when I wrote fireproof nas in google
We also burned one! ua-cam.com/video/pe0HgpXKIZQ/v-deo.html
Only 2 drives!! I'm reliant on hard drive capacity increases to keep me from upgrading my 4 bay. It is pretty neat though!
They have a four or five drive model but that's $$$

I love how you say "wudder"! Is that a Philly accent?
For the $600 premium, I think the money would be better spent on remote back-ups.
How do you ensure your remote backups are safe? That cloud solution is someone else's data center.

True my backup is at my dad's 200 miles away every time I add to my Nas a copy goes there

Provided you have the bandwidth, I know a company that had over 900 installed across their retail stores.

You will get some drive noise on this but perhaps a little less than a regular 220+.
@Lon, did they choose RAID 1, over Synology's SHR, or did you?
Raid 1 was how they had it configured.
I prefer the SHR as it can be more space efficient with dissimilar drives, but if they supply the drives I guess it really doesn't matter.
@@xjonx1 you can you SHR-1 IF you like.

No it operates on its own but you need to use their applications and it has to be on a + series NAS otherwise it'll just store your files.
Imagine being IO Safe and having to do the R&D on this.
"We build 100 different NAS, now we must destroy them all". Kinda sad lol
IOSafe make about 5 different models not a 100.
$940 🤣. Just buy multiple and store in various locations for that price.
Provided you have the bandwidth.
for 940$ you could just buy another safe with the same protections and put a 4bay NAS in it =X
Getting the wires to the outside world is the hard part. You can't just drill a hole or you might as well not have it at all.
Come on, fire resistant at best, right?
No these are designed to work in fire conditions similar to fireproof safes. See the interview I have with the founder in the video description.
The fire proof and water proof are for the 2 drives.
BURN IT!
Waste of money buy a Proper fire safe put it backups in there and online along with cash etc
What do you do with the wires? NAS does run by magic!
This shall get low numbers. Nobody cares about this item. I say this as a fact.
Doing better than some of my other videos this week. Just because it doesn't interest you doesn't mean others might find it interesting.

I know a company that has over 900 of these units.
