Hi Mary
This 8 year old video appeared on my feed today and I'm so happy. I have a new idea to add to my quilt portfolio.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Mary has a great way to deliver the information with encouragement and humor. Love it and can't wait to make this quilt!
For years, I watched Fons and Porter on TV,. I loved it when you were on there also. So glad I found you again. I have made this quilt several times in different widths and I will probably make it again soon.
This just came across my feed, thank you Mary for a beautiful beginner quilt! I love the quilt on the wall also!
This is a good series. Plain and simple, easy to follow. They have a ton of good videos from Fons and Porter
I love your personality. You always make me smile. Love your tutorials.

Hi Mary
Thank You for your time to teach us how to do these quilts I appreciate being able to learn without paying for a class...:)
Hello how are you
Shannon going to a quilt class with other ladies who love to quilt is priceless
I like all these quilts. For winter. Especially.
I just happen to have the perfect jelly roll for this. So I'm off to do some T things with it! Thanks Mary, and have a wonderful day!
Love it. This Coin pattern would be very pretty with Christmas fabric. Thank you.
My sentiments echo those of Cheryl Land....love to watch you, such a personality...you make me smile!
Hello
I love this design as a first quilt. Thanks for sharing
Moved on to a tutorial with ads. There are lots of great tutorials without ads.
🤣🤣🤣
Hello
This is awesome! It would make a fun tablerunner and placemats too...if you want to practice before doing a large project! Love those jelly rolls! Thanks for sharing!
Yes agreed practice small first
Not a quilter but i was given 8 large bags of fabric scraps that are leaftovers from a clothing factory. Most are even strips in coordinating colors! I guess this is what im going to make! Thanks
Nice! Jelly rolls change everything. As always, a really good presentation, Mary. Thanks for helping beginners.
Hello
This looks fairly easy and so it looks like I'm finally going to be able to do my first quilt. Am just curious about the reverse side. So do I have to use a separate cloth for the back or will this do? The question might sound silly but I really have not yet embarked on any quilt projects before that's why I'm wondering. Thank you so much for sharing.
I loved the Coin Quilt demo. Can't wait to make this quilt!

I love this idea. I used to buy the quilts magazine every month. It disappeared off the shelves in my area a couple of years ago. I am very sad about that but I still use my small collection of quilty magazine as a reference and inspiration.
I had a co-worker whose mother passed away. She then told all of us she was going to have a garage sale and she was going to let all of us get first choice to come to the garage sale. Her mother was a quilter. Had stacks and stacks of quilting magazines. Some were dated 1971, QuiltersNewletter magazine.. my biggest surprise was when she said I could have them for a nickles a piece. OMG I thought I'd gone to heaven with him. I felt like " this fell into the right hands", I love the art o quilting. And I think her mother appreciated this. Her magazines went to someone who holds on to dear life for something they truly love. Ti this day I have a smile on my face
Beginner here! Going to try! Thank you!
This is a great quilt I am going to try as a beginner quilter. 🙏🙏🙏
Hi Suzanne
When I walked into the first QuiltCon in Austin in 2013, the first quilt I saw was a coin quilt. It was in a display of antique quilt with a “modern” look.
Thank you so much for always sharing your knowledge with us. I have learned so much from watching your videos!
Hello Mary
Good idea for scraps but what I enjoyed most about this video was the ending and the 'T' bloopers... you handled it 'Terrific'.
This looks like something I would like to try. Thanks for sharing.
This is one of the clearest and easiest to understand videos I've found. Great job of explaining how to get started.
Awesome, I cant wait to get working on a quilt with a jelly roll. Now the question is which color roll do I use Hmmmmm. Thank you Mary
I love your teaching thank you for explaining it so easy
Hi Dora
The quilt in the back looks like a coin quilt. Not sure how the one you are making looks like a coin but it is very lovely and easy for the new quilter.
Me encanta, la forma como lo explican de fácil, gracias . Costa Rica
I can't seem to locate this fabric and I absolutely love it Any ideas?
+krisasci Try Missouri Star Quilt Co. online. That's where I get almost all of my precut quilting material. I used a local quilt store to buy material by the yard when there was a sale.
I would love to try this since I'm a beginner.
What is the name of the quilt In the background. It is one of my favorites
Hello Victoria
I'm an absolute beginner. I was hoping the video would show how the white border is sewn? I'm clueless how to put that together.
+Soh Hui Cheok I agree! I was hoping to begin with step one. This is more for a beginner who knows how to use jelly rolls.
you would have to buy a seperate jelly roll and then add them.togetjer to get the length you want and then sew them to the coins together. missouri quilt co. has a tutorial on that. more like a quilt she was making that she shows how to add thw white part.
Go watch Quilting for begginners Ever (quilting tutorial) by Amanda Craft. Best video ever! She shows how to do the whole quilt :)

Hi Janet

Hello Jody
I was wondering what it would look like if you alternated each 811/2” square in direction.
I might try that I have a couple baby quilts to work on.
You would essentially have a split rails quilt. But with randoms colors. :)
How do u stipple such a big quilt in ur home sewing machine?? Please make a video on that.. Many thanks!!
I would like to buy that jellyroll she used to make the quilt where can I find it and what's the name of the jellyroll used in the video?

Could you tell us what brand of iron you're using?
Congratulations on your 1 million views on this video
Hi Lynn
Where did you get your cordless iron
What a cute beginner quilt :-) I am hoping to teach my great niece ( age 12) this summer, provided.I think this one is perfect for her to start. I couldn't help but notice this lovely iron holder. Where might I purchase one of those handy devices? thank you for your video !
DL Eslah it comes together with her cordless iron.
Loved it. Thank you.
would have been nice if we could see how to do the white boarder and more finishing details. I feel like im left hanging!!
Hello, how are you doing my friend?

Jo-anne Whyman couldn’t agree more. As a beginner in the UK with no jelly rolls not really helpful at all.
kindly you can just cur 2.5" strips from yardage.
How to make a binding for a octogenarian quilt
I am needing a new iron.. I like the look of yours… I see most of these comments are quite old but I’ll ask anyway… what is the brand and model of your iron.. I like the blunt nose.
Real quilting is becoming a lost art. I've decided to start a quilting bee with girls my daughters age to bring it back to life.
Are you saying this is or isn’t real quilting?
I’m new to this
Hi I just saw this, great instructions! I’ve got a question: why is it called a “coin”? Also, what’s a”jelly roll”?Tfs!
If you look at a coin from the flat side it is something like the strip sets
@@AnitaSouthall thank you for answering! I appreciate it!
what iron is that your using. it looks amazing.

what is the quilt in the background called? it is spectacular!
Kelley Poulos Have you ever found out what the quilt in the background is?
Laura Wilson No. I've been looking but no luck.
Kelley Poulos It is very similar to the Washington pavement block on fons and porters site with a little modification. See what you think. It is in Civil War Era Quilts which is a pdf download.
Kelley Poulos FOUND IT YAY!!! Moda Ladies Album Quilt Pattern #PS8280. Has a free pattern download to.
Laura Wilson Excellent! Thank you.
Nice fabric 😊
Where does "coin" fit in? Coins are round and you are working with strips. Odd name, if you ask me.
Stacked coins would look similar to this quilt.
Because it looks like stacked coins viewed from the side. It's an old pattern sometimes called Chinese Coins.
Great idea!!
I would like to try to make this quilt. Look really very easy. And I like colour this Jelly rolls . Where do you buy it? Thank you. Martina
Jordan fabrics has all you need
The "ads" are the sponsors. She is using their supplies so she needs to give them a mention. These girls (Mary and mom) have a quilting empire with tons of great tools, supplies, patterns, etc. Their things are expensive too but very useful. They do videos for free to sell their and their sponsors goods, not to teach a class. These vids used to be tv shows so maybe they just didnt change them up for internet. Imo, most presenters on you tube just come on and blather, I dont think they have a clue about trying to be professional. Dont worry, eventually they will wash out.
I do have one Of Fons and Porter's easy quilt magazines and it is outstanding. It was my first attempts at quilting and I made coasters, mug rugs, table runners and wall hangings out of that one mag. But then I'm a visual learner, a picture might be worth a thousand words but I'd rather have info spelled out. Good luck to everyone and remember it is all about having fun, so play.
What does the back look like?
Hi do you wash your material before sewing?
+Chris Pyne yes, b/c if they're not preshrunk then you wash it after it makes it uneven
Ok Thank you!
+Chris Pyne Jelly rolls don't have to be washed. Just sayin' :)
Amazing video!! I’m in! One question, why are the strips called coins?
WHAT IS THE FINISHED SIZE?
just curious, why is it called a coin quilt? where did this expression arise? thanks, good job
I think it is supposed to look like a stack of coins.

I've never used jelly rolls. Do you have to prewash them?
+Aynge Mackay I'm a new quilter also. I've learned not to prewash the material, whether jelly rolls or 5" charm packs. I actually washed the 5" squares and what a job it was to iron them all before sewing! Better to leave them unwashed. If I'm wrong, please correct me ANYONE.
Marilyn Carter What if they shrink? I was taught to always pre-wash.
+Marilyn Carter and a.
You can prewash fabric if you want, people disagree on that. But do NOT prewash jelly rolls and charm packs. Quality fabric will be okay if you do not wash it first. That is something that quilters have differing opinions on, but as far as I know, nobody prewashes the small cuts.
Aynge Mackay and
I’m a little disappointed you didn’t show us how to sew the centre borders on
You do a great job on your vids. I think this quilt is very cool and fast. I also would like to know the iron you are using. Keep up the awesome work. Love and Hugs
thank you
Thanks a lot for this quilt
how long does it take to make a quite
+Marlene Heineman How much time do you have to dedicate to sewing? I can make a coin quilt top in a couple of hours.
What does overcut mean?
Thanks to inspirer me God bless you
Does anyone know WHY this is called a "coin" quilt? Looks more like bars or bricks. Thx!
You are so funny xx
so you dont need to prewash jellyroll fabric?
Not usually if you did you remove the sizing from the fabric and it might fray the edges
Wow! Thankyou for posting this. I Love it!
that would be awesome/er with a contrast color or in native American pattern
There is way too much advertising at the beginning any way too little sewing but I do love the quilts
You're so cute! You made this fun to watch... I'll send you a picture of mine when I'm done.
