If this is a hellhole, I'd like to see the more fortunate places in Massachusetts, they must be heavenly.
Fix up the roads and this place will look great.
Visit Andover Massachusetts. Its a nice place that has restaurants voted best this and that and had Americas best high school supposedly.
They are, tbh. The well-to-do or even middle class parts of Massachusetts are probably the best places to live in the country.
It's generally a great state to live in, if you can afford it. The only really bad part is around Springfield in the western part of the state.
@@bobdroll6381 But there are good and bad people everywhere. The worst neighborh I ever had was in a nice suburban development. A lot of the nicest people I know come from very humble environments.
@@markrichards6863 I couldn't disagree more. Yeah, those are bad areas for sure. Have you been to Lawrence lately? Go to Lynn and see how nice it has become.
I grew up on the north shore and you can see what urban sprawl and open national borders does to communities longterm. Lynn has become Chelsea, Peabody has become Lynn. Beverly is becoming Peabody, and on and on. It trickles into places like Gloucester, and even some of the smaller coastal communities. I see it daily. Slowly but surely each community becomes overwhelmed with too many people. There is a one common denominator in the decline of all these places. Working class, American families suffer the consequences. Our communities decline, our wages undercut, our neighbors we no longer know. We don't even speak the same language. Respect for your city, neighbors, etc. declines. Fentanyl keeps pouring in unimpeded. Families continue to be devastated by all of this decline. Resources are spread thin and corporate America gets more consumers.
Then the N.I.M.B.Y's come out. They vote for the people putting these policies in place. They vote for the people whom are beholden to corporate America. They vote for the people the press told them to vote for, BUT as soon as it hits their neighborhood they suddenly forget the culture approved moral compass they were told is virtuous. They toss it aside and start resisting public housing projects, 40B plans, etc.
I apologize for the rant. It is just fascinating to watch the cognitive dissonance of limousine liberals play out. Fascinating yet infuriating, as they don't realize that their current complaints are a direct result of policies they support, shouting to the heavens with virtue for all to hear.
They have "We are all in this together" signs on their lawns. "COEXIST" bumper stickers next to the "RESIST" stickers on their cars. BLM signs in their windows. AND next to their various, and oh so virtuous lawn signs, is a "Keep -name town here- small". "VOTE NO on -name proposal which changes their community-, and suddenly these people become less "virtuous" without realizing they never were in the first place. They were just parroting the line they've been fed while corporate America changes the face of their communities in the name of consumerism, and of course greed! I could ramble on but I'll refrain.
I'm just a working class family man (crushed by mass migration flooding my job market) in a beautiful community surrounded by out of touch buffoons with a lot of expendable income and absolutely zero self-awarenes.
*rant over*
I used to own a home in the quiet side of that city until they decided to put a half-way house in front of me. Suddenly my car's windshield was broken like 4 times within a month. That's when I decided to move out and I have never looked back! This was like 16 years ago.

Lawrence is pretty rough despite the local government trying to make it attractive to folk's in Boston.

Boston priced out a lot of the bad people so a lot of them moved to Brockton and brought they old ways with them. It used to be a whole lot worse than what you are showing. I guess it depends on who participated in that survey for "worst" or "best". Its all opinions, and Brockton doesn't look bad at all. There are so many great places in MA though!! Just avoid Boston and Fall River area and you're good! Trust me, New England is the BEST place to live in this country, nice beautiful snowy winters calm everybody down, it's the safest area in the country, beautiful mountains and rolling valleys, I'm talking about Vermont, New Hampshire, MA and Maine. Most of the country feels like a wasteland in comparison.

Holyoke is the worst city in mass. Springfield also is a run down old mess too
Yeah, I think these places are much worse than Brockton despite it's reputation and similarities, it's still in Plymouth county after all, and not too far outside of Boston, all better selling points than the aforementioned cities
I agree. At least Springfield has an art museum and performing arts venues. But you don't want to hang out after the show. It's hard fir Springfield and Hartford. Being halfway between NYC and Boston really works to their disadvantage. The best thing that could happen to Springfield would be if the MTA decided to invest in high speed rail from Boston, Worcester and Springfield. Worcester is starting to come in to its own.

I used to work for a convenience store chain. We had a location in Brockton (closed now) that had the ATM stolen out of it (The WHOLE ATM) four times in five weeks. They threw a brick through the window, wrapped a chain around the ATM, and towed it away with a van. They were never caught. I set up security cams, and the store clerk got robbed at gunpoint at around 8PM, when it was still not dark out. Glad I quit! Screw Brockton.
What happened to Brockton?
There was a time about 100 years ago when Brockton was voted the best place to live in the United States. Brockton was the shoe manufacturing capital of the world. There were countless factory mills scattered all over the city. Good paying jobs working in these factories were plentiful. It was one of the first cities to have electricity, and Thomas Edison was there to witness it. Brockton was the first city in the county to have stone railroad bridges built so vehicles could drive UNDER them (that was a big deal back then). The world's best bridge builders came to Brockton, Massachusetts to build these bridges. They're still there, and probably will be forever.
What happened?
If you ask the oldest living people in Brockton, they'll tell you it was Democrat Governor Michael Dukakis. He was in office from 1975-1979.
Around the time he was in office, Boston was in the process cleaning up the red light district (a.k.a. “the combat zone). They were leveling run down old apartment buildings and making this seedy area as small and presentable as possible. Legions of hookers, pimps, criminals, and drug addicts had nowhere to go.
Dukakis decided he would send them all to 3 cities. Brockton, Haverill, and Lawrence. These other two once great cities suffered the same ruinous fate. Suddenly, there were low-income and subsidized housing complexes being built all over Brockton to house the element that came crawling out of the Boston red light district. And of course, this element multiplied and spread their "lifestyle" through the once strong and proud city. Everyone who was able to move did. Businesses left.
And THAT is what happened to Brockton.
Liberalism.
Brockton was destroyed by liberalism.
Just like New York City. Just like Portland. Just like Minneapolis. Just like San Francisco.
These things are inescapably political. Like it or not, that's the truth.
I don't want to split hairs, but I would say it's more neo-liberalism. Yes, the governor during that time was awful.

I grew up in Brockton and in the 90s the town was pretty safe until they started opening up section 8 everywhere. As soon as they opened a condo complex down the street from my house things went to shit. The house got broken into, somebody stole one of our cars, and I got mugged infront of my friends house all within the span of 2 years. We moved to the south side and somebody tried to break into our house twice and there was even a shooting infront of our house. This was also deep in the suburbs, the "nice" parts of town too.
My dad was a firefighter for 25 years and he told me parts of town were basically just infested with drugs because they'd respond to multiple overdoses a day. My entire family, relatives, and friends GTFO of Brockton when we could. I grew up in Brockton. Look at the changes in demographics and that will tell you why Brockton became Broketown. Once a thriving city Shoe Capital of the world. It all changed in the late 80s when one demographic hoarded ir from New Bedford and Fall River.
Most of the shoe factories left by the start of the '70s. I think Stacy Adams stuck around a bit longer, but not by much. Victory Shoe was done by the mid-'60s. Randy's in Randolph laid off a bunch in the late '60s (I know that because my dad was one of the layoffs). We moved to Connecticut in September 1973, and except for funerals and visiting relatives we never looked back.

How about Lowell Massachusetts we have Cambodian town here . ?
Can you please come to western Massachusetts and do Springfield/Holyoke
I'm struggling to find more than 10 people walking there. No bicycling or walking single dog. 😃 Introverts paradise
@@MrSupernova111 the cold doesn’t bother us , people are working / school as they should be :)
The worst part is under the bridges or near the homeless shelter saw some lady bleeding infront of my house after she injected herself with something behind a car and a guy got shot on my street but the last two years been peaceful since they increased the police budget. We even have movies being filmed here now. Just hope the property value increases more.
What street u live on? I'm on fuller and some one used to get killed over here every weekend in the late 80s early 90s it's a lot better than what it used to be be.
At about the 13:00 mark you passed Crescent Street and eventually turned left onto Legion Parkway. Hard to believe when you watch this, but that area was a thriving business area with clothing, jewelry and department stores when I was a child. Legion Parkway was where they used to have the reviewing stand for the Memorial Day parade. This all looks so desolate now, 50 years after we moved away. (God, has it really been that long?)
There's 18 minutes of my life I'll never get back again. It's a poor neighborhood. Just like 1000's of other poor neighborhoods.
Check out the dirtyburg I mean Fitchburg 🙄
This is why we're all leaving. The natives can't afford to stay were all farming families
There are beautiful and safe places in Massachusetts. There are some safe spots within “dangerous” cities like Springfield. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had many close calls in Springfield while growing up there; just stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings.
How about the western half of the state, like Springfield? Same issues and even looks like Brockton, just bigger. Can’t pay me to live there.
Sad it makes you wonder how it got here. There are hints in that you can see this trend and general "feeling" popping up in other places around Massachusetts. I agree tons of great people here and it's not all bad.
I own a house in the Campello area. It is quiet for the most part until they play their loud music in the summer. In my neighborhood it is mostly single houses that people take care of and keep their lawns nice. I pay $4300.00 in property taxes. Yes..you read it correctly. I have lived here for 25 yrs plus. It use to be a lot nicer than it is today. The problem is we became a sanctuary city. A lot of Haitians and Cape Verde. Some are very nice people. It is not as bad as people think. We have lots of places to shop and lots of restaurants/fast food. It's not the best but not the worse. Good and bad places in every city.
$4300 where is did you get this discount, I pay $4,600 on the opposite side of town, very quite working class neighborhood no complain)
I live in Brockton 20+ years , don’t judge a city you didn’t live in , Which city doesn’t have crime, drugs, and all the lie that you said. Brockton is City of Champions. Your Lie don’t Define the people that Live here. Always show the Negative , Not the Positive, Your like Brockton Enterprise.
We came from another country try better our lives , it’s not easy because you have to learn the language, we work 2 jobs so our family can have food on the table, and make sure get a better education, and Be respectful to everyone not pointing fingers where they came from, a house can’t never be built from top to bottom , that why we work hard to build a foundation, coming to US from any country in the world it’s not easy at first , But you have to be humble, hard working & wait for your time because everyone will get their Blessings on their own time, Everyday I pray for a Better Brockton and World , Cuz all the families Deserve peace and Love. I Don’t judge Anyone by where they Live because everyone story will be different then the other one, But Always Respect everyone, No matter where They came From. When you see Bad try make a change for Good, don’t bring more Bad energy to it, God Bless Everyone 🙏🏼♥️💯
Clearly you have not been raised here you were not born in Brockton you did not deal with the situations back then if you are a native to Brockton evaluate before you start talkin because you're a little bubble is not just all Brockton
@@normanwyatt8761 because again I'm from Brockton always have them raised in Brockton as I've always seen it there was always shity people Legion Parkway is always shity elmcourt never changes the only thing that does change is the west side of Brockton and the Northside of Rockton those are the only two sides that are worth even getting any type of property
@@normanwyatt8761 on top of that I know friends that do real estate in Brockton and they tell me all the time and it's hard just to sell any houses in Brockton because of the predominant fucked-up areas like Greenstreet and as well as all of pleasant
@@normanwyatt8761 you're probably the Brockton native that has nothing else to do
Looks a little dense in the layout, but over all decent looking small city
if you go to nearby Rhode Island, by far the worst is central falls. a soccer/football complex contaminated with lead, terrible schools, gang violence, a juvenile detention center, and corrupt city officials all in a single square mile,
in Connecticut, it clearly Hartford
So Brockton’s actually the worst of the worst than? Didn’t actually know that. I’d say so many others including Fall River would give it a run for its money or it’s lack of money. I was still always kind of surprised that it had a lot of shopping areas, not anymore so it’s definitely gone down hill since as early as the 2000’s. The malls still there but definitely abandoned.
The old homes seem to be well kept
