The religious section of this tour is one of my favorite "acts" from start to finish of her career - it's the most artistic criticism of the Catholic Church and the Patriarchy that she's ever put on stage. The through line is just brilliant. From the innocence of the opening notes of Like A Virgin to her sexual awakening and subsequent shame, to covering up on Like A Prayer and the joyful religious ecstasy of it all, to her realization that the Church only welcomes her on their terms, not hers, to the genius of the final costume of Papa Don't Preach where she's covered up, but we can still see the corset in the translucent robe - she's showing that a woman can be both spiritual and sexual and doesn't have to choose, even if the Church rejects the sexual side of her, she is the one rejecting the Patriarchy at the end. It's an important message. Also, if you can find an alternate recording of Papa Don't Preach, watch it just to see the full men's dance at the end of the song (I was impressed with watching the hands playing keyboard, but it definitely took away from the beautiful choreography). It's a really impressive dance break, and one of the only times she's every brought nearly classical ballet to one of her shows, and those gorgeous men just kill it.
This tour raised the bar and set the template for all tours that followed (her own and everybody else's as well) with the different acts that in some cases replicated the look and mood if her videos and in others created an entirely new interpretation of a familiar hit. Also the memorable costuming by Jean Paul Gaultier. Artists had always worked with costume designers of course but never with an actual couturier who could elevate that aspect of the production in such a major way. Of course, it's now commonplace to have top tier designers working on concert tours. And that microphone...they don't call it a Madonna mike for nothing. Also a new innovation at the time that no performer would work without today. I've never seen the Jersey show before. It is nice to see the ponytail in action. She had to abandon it later because repeatedly putting it on every night was severely damaging her hair.
I guess you've forgotten that before Madonna, Cher, Bette Midler, and almost ANYONE who performed live or on TV wore (and still wears) Bob Mackie creations and costumes. Bette Midler also performed in custom bustiers in concert all the time in the 70's. NOt to mention the incredible costumes and one-of-a-kind gowns he designed weekly for Cher and Carol Burnett. In any case, this is Madonna's best concert hands down. Also because every minute of it was sung live. Not one minute of pre-recorded vocal in the whole show.
@@lamusiclover2264 oh, I could never forget Mr Mackie. A genius in his field with a prolific body of work, having dressed countless performers for decades. A legendary, award winning Costume Designer. Gaultier, however, is an Haute Couturier. There is a distinction. Some may say in job title only, but there is a technical difference in the way they're defined...boiling it down to purpose and intent. And that's not to say both gentlemen haven't done both things. I'd even argue that Gaultier has at times been inspired by Mackie in his designs. Both incredibly influential in their own fields, as well as each other's....if that makes sense. But now that you got me thinking about it....Liza Minnelli and Halston! Halston was a couturier rather than a costume designer but of course made clothes for Liza to perform in. So there is that! LOL ya got me! 😜
@@todddepue681 I think no matter what you call them, a talented dressmaker, Clothier and costume designer it's exactly all those things. I think it boils down to the fact that if you can afford to pay them to make you something to wear, then you can be sure it'll be remembered

I went to all 4 NJ dates. She was phenomenal. The song Causing A Commotion is from the Who's That Girl movie soundtrack and she also performed it on her Who's That Girl Tour. I remember her f*ck joke. She said "F*ck is not a bad word. F*ok is a good word. If our parents didn't f*ck we all wouldn't be here." This is my favorite Madonna tour.
I remember that tour well, that was the tour she was doing when she recorded the documentary “truth or dare“. She was told in Toronto if she did the masturbation scene for like a virgin, she would be arrested. But she called their bluff, She refused to change her show … but she did not get arrested. And it’s all in truth or dare. I’m not sure if you’ve watched that? But you definitely should see “truth or dare“
The instrumental strings at the end of Papa Don't Preach (and right before the Dick Tracy segment) was a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Batman 1989 soundtrack which came out just prior to Dick Tracy movie (that incidentally Prince was part of) were in competition with each other. In turn, Poison Ivy, in the 3rd Batman movie, dances to music remarkably similar to the Middle Eastern LIke a Virgin of this tour.

She changed the whole way tours were done with this one. It was the highest grossing tour of the year beating out legendary bands. The theatrical elements and the way she weaved a story has been used by every artist after this so a tour is an experience not just someone standing at a mic.
"Causing A Commotion" is a song from the soundtrack of "Who's That Girl" a movie that she starred in 1987. fun fact: she had a and throat infection during this whole tour. my cousin was a huge fan ( so was I and still am) and had bought the documentary on video cassette.
Madonna’s dancing is impeccable
The live version of Like A Prayer,, Live to tell and Papa Don't Preach are LEGENDARY!!!!! This part of the tour was so amazing!!! 🔥
I appreciate you rewind to enjoy the transitions that are seamless. I forgot how good was this whole concert. Love your reactions.
Having an artistical vision of her work, she gave her show a special dimension. I like that.
Live to Tell es juzgada
Oh, Father es condenada
Papá don't Preach es la rebelión (I'm gonna keep my baby).

The ponytail is ICONIC!!!!!
My favorite Madonna tour hairstyle. My favorite Madonna tour.
@@lamusiclover2264 and of course Madonna wore Mackie when she performed at the 1991 Academy Awards
@@todddepue681 I think no matter what you call them, a talented dressmaker, Clothier and costume designer it's exactly all those things. I think it boils down to the fact that if you can afford to pay them to make you something to wear, then you can be sure it'll be remembered
@@lamusiclover2264good collaboration between the right people is the key to making something memorable.
A lot of money really only guarantees you'll get something very expensive.
Yes she's the Queen, the only Queen of music. Loved her from the beginning and she never disappointed me. Love your reaction)))
This concert was an emotional rollercoaster, especially tge religious part. To this day It is still imo, the best section of a concert I have EVER seen!!! ❤
100% agree!
I was there!!!! Saw the concert 5 times!!! Once in New Jersey & 4 times @ Madison Square Garden. It was E-P-I-C!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you Dereck this was truly wonderful what a queen and legendary woman Madonna is. Great your doing more Madonna reactions 💖
Her first album came out when I was in HS . We copied her fashion and style and trends. 1983/84. She was everything to us at that time
Madonna have a angel, queen and goddess aura.
If our parents didn't f*ck we all wouldn't be here."
This is my favorite Madonna tour.
Assistindo em 2024 sua reação e a performance da minha vida.
Give it up Dereck!!!! This is something that needs to be felt!!!
This show is a masterpiece!
So happy to see you watch this amazing concert. You are in for more greatness in your next part.👍👍😊
The greatest show on Earth from the last century. Long live the Queen!
Blonde Ambition Tour’s segment of Like A Virgin/Like A Prayer/ Live to Tell/ Oh Father/ Papa Don’t Preach. The song choices, choreography and presentation was pure genius!
I saw Madonna at Wembley stadium . The Who's That Girl Tour , The Blond Ambition Tour , The Girly show Tour . she never stops moving . when she was on tour she ran six miles a day on days off from the tour she was mega fit . and i know that because the British paparazzi followed her everywhere . Causing a Commotion is on the Who's That Girl album .
@michael webb
How close or how far were you for each of the 3 concerts: Who's That Girl Tour, Blond Ambition Tour and the Girlie Show?
@@dalee72 on the Who's That Girl we were about 60 feet from the front but when she comes on stage the crowd surge forward another 10/15 feet so we got close and we were dead centre of the pitch on the Blond Ambition Tour we went twice and both times got well within 30 feet close to the centre of the pitch again but on the Girlie Show Tour I sat on the right hand side as close as i could get to the stage because I'd torn a tendon in my lower back and couldn't stand for long . every time i went to any concert at Wembley stadium we got there as early as possible . we came down from Oxford
Papi, as I watch you swim in your chair, I come to the conclusion that good music really orgasmic.
Mexican music is the ultimate representation. It's like it take over one's body and you feel the music, the words, the felling.
I love good music.
Cheers from Florida!🇲🇽🇺🇲🏳️🌈
Other singers can have the best voice..but it's how she performs...totally entertaining...and the theatrics in every performance os everything...she really started almost everything for todays female artists..
One of greatest songs ever recorded .
Madonna has been my idol since I was 10/11yrs old (1983) GOAT!!! Great to see the younger generation loving her too 🥰
She changed the whole way tours were done with this one. It was the highest grossing tour of the year beating out legendary bands. The theatrical elements and the way she weaved a story has been used by every artist after this so a tour is an experience not just someone standing at a mic.
I was i that tour in Barcelona I was 16 years old and then I sow her in 5 tours I LOVE THE QUEEN!!!
"Causing A Commotion" is a song from the soundtrack of "Who's That Girl" a movie that she starred in 1987. There is a different version from the 1991 EP "The Holiday Collection" and it sounds slighty different, even the title is "Causin' A Commotion", I love the EP's version! You should listen to both songs! 😍🤩
I love the Express Yourself performance so much that I even learned the choreography, it's very easy and fun... good for exercising 💪🏼
I don't know about very easy but definitely fun and good for exercising. Doing the side shuffle, Roger Rabbit, the backwards Running Man and the high kick can be challenging.
HANDS DOWN her best tour !!! I saw her in London and also the show in Nice too … WOW !!! Stunning vocals from Nikki & Donna her backup singers xxxx
YEESSSS! that is what I needed after a long week! thanks D! x
I'm so glad you're reacting to this tour and I must say, this New Jersey HD is really great. I have so many audio recordings of this back when I used to trade cassettes with other fans and the quality here is so sharp And I can hear things I hadn't heard before just because the audience is usually screaming their head off but I love that too. I so wish I had been able to go to this But seeing Truth or Dare in the theater helped to make up for it. Looking forward to your part to!
I don't think that the sound quality is bad as some other commenters have said about this NJ version.
Blond is 💥 DA 💥 B O M B 💥
Keep toghether at the end of the tour is fantastic
The most glorious tour ever. Like a virgin into like a prayer ❤️ an actual biblical performance. This tour paved the way for all her future tours and every other performer
I was at this concert! This was in the Meadowlands, New Jersey
@Gerald Corson
How close or how far were you to the stage?
I went to all 4 of the NJ dates.
To this day, no female artist has topped her stage shows.
Agree 100%!!
In my opinion, this is her best tour.!!!
Yes, I agree. This is my favorite Madonna tour. Although Who's That Girl Tour has special place in my heart because it was my very first concert by any artist or band or group but the nothing beats the Blond Ambition Tour. The set list, the choreography, the musical production, the costumes, the lighting and the overall cathartic theater.
I love her basque on stage, John Paul Gaultier, I think. Like his Classique perfume bottles.
Get it Derek. Imagine being 16 and watching this. How excited we all were
When this concert came out the world literally stopped. And said who's that girl.
The blonde ambition tour is one of the greatest tours ever.
Her fans knew she was meant to be the greatest, but after this tour
everyone else agreed
The final concert in Nice France is arguably the fiercest full show of the tour. Madonna said she gives the most in every area when finishing the tour.
I’m sorry, but Barcelona was way fiercer, she was on fire on that one!
@@vitorriccardo445 Paris was better than Barcelona & Nice!

Fantastic tour ,,,,,I seen this at Wembley stadium London atmosphere was electric
@john farrell How close or how far were you from the stage?
@@dalee72 to be honest we weren't that far back from the stage ,,,,at the time I took photos very clear on the bed for like a virgin and where's the party
fun fact: she had a and throat infection during this whole tour. my cousin was a huge fan ( so was I and still am) and had bought the documentary on video cassette. It showed her doing anything and everything to save her voice for the performance. she was doing lots of tea with lemon, eating boiled spinach and drinking the liquid, she would communicate by writing or whispering. thats why she had to change few of the songs.
She really pushed herself vocally during this tour especially since near every song was live but I can’t lie I think she sounded better more grittier and stronger when she was hoarse lmao
Not the whole tour just the US dates, Her voice was better during the European Dates,
I really enjoyed your reaction❗️I never watched this New Jersey show before even though I've been a fan for decades. Looking forward to the next part of your reaction.
If you want to know more about her backvocalists and her dancers, watch the documentary of that tour "In Bed With Madonna", very very interesting to see them all backstage. They were a little family during all of these months of touring.
Glad you are liking it so far. I was fortunate to see this show in Detroit when I was a teen. The Blond Ambition tour set the standard for the modern concert. Costumes, lighting, dancing. It’s one of her best concerts ever.
@Jay Smith How close or how far were you to the stage?
I was at one of the Blonde Ambition shows! It was amazing. Madonna is a living legend, icon. No other female artist can ever top her. Period.

LOVED that you pointed out the percussions because this and The Girlie Show in my opinion were her best bands as far as her tours go. The energy top tier!
I was born when she was performing his tour ♥ 😍 💞
On the Like a Prayer album, Dear Jesse was right before Oh, Father on the track list and the melody at the end of Dear Jessie and the melody at the beginning of Oh, Father had a funny transition as well. I was never sure where one song started and the other ended. lol.

the Blond Ambition the best tour by Madonna.. there is a magical relation with the girls, the dancers and musicians.. everything is perfect.. it looks that Madonna was really having a good time in this concert.. the Blond Ambition is an iconic tour for me.. she was leaving the 80's and starting a new decade with new hits.. I think Blond Ambition and Girlie show were the best tours along the Who's that Girl, Drowned World tour, she was singing live most of the time, of course we can't forget like a virgin tour.
And don't forget about the Reinvention Tour.
