There is aftermarket kits to improve shifter feel, and shorten throws. One us more complicated to install on the shifter itself, and the other is more simple, at the shift linkage under the hood at the firewall. You just have to remove a few parts to access the linkage for installation.

I put 61,000 miles on a 2016 LX before I upgraded to a 2017 Si because I really fell in love with the 10th gen Civic. My first car was and is a 1998 Honda Civic LX 4-door sedan. I bought it when I was 19, and I'm now 40. I drive it nearly every day! In fact, today I drove it to the same dealership I bought it from in 1999 to look at the 2020 Honda Civic LX 4-door sedan. They have 4 left in the color I want. I should probably buy one soon before they're all gone, although I'm sure the 2021 models will also be nice!

158 HP is way enough for what it is. I explain in detail in the previous comments. The 20+ extra horsepower of the turbo Sport Hatchback and Si come with the extra wear and tear, potential more problems, maintenance, decreased reliability, durability, and longevity. You need to warm it up and take it easy on a cold start before pushing it, and cool it down for awhile before shutdown after hard driving.
I'm not saying they are going to give a lot of problems, and break down prematurely, if you maintain them well and don't abuse and thrash it, but longevity with be shorter that the non turbo 2.0L engine. People that buy this car may like the sporty appearance, power and handling, in an affordable well equipped car, but not be car persons. They may have family members of all ages driving, and intend to keep it in factory condition. It is not intended to be anything else. If you want more power, you can go with the EX to Touring Trims, or if you are an enthusiast, go with the Sport Hatchback or Sport Touring Hatchback of you want all the bells and whistles, leather seats, sunroof, etc., and may want to modify it, or spend a little more and get the new updated 2020 Si Sedan/Coupe.

    • @jjacob25101

I may get the Civic Sport Sedan if I don't opt for the Sport Hatchback or Si Sedan, but this has the most reliability, durability and longevity, especially with the 6 speed manual, if you don't mind shifting. But I haven't heard of problems with this CVT, and imagine it will be reliable if you maintain it and don't abuse it, and change the fluid and filter every 40K miles.
I think for the price, it has everything I could want considering the price, but the few things I would want would be the turn signal lights on the outside mirrors, lighted visor vanity mirrors, wireless phone charger standard on Sport models and up, map pockets behind both front seats, maybe the rear seat center armrest with cup holders, and for 2020 the even nicer wheels that the Sport Hatchback has that I thought would also be on the Sport Sedan/Coupe. And a CD player, or at least an auxiliary audio input jack. Things like the sunroof, I don't care for unless it comes with it, like the Si, power and memory seats and power steering column tilt and telescoping assist, which I prefer manual as is. More simple, and less things to go wrong. Heated seats would be nice, too.
Other than some of the OEM accessories like the weather mats and trunk mat, and rear seatback protector if the Civic offers it, I can't think of anything else I would add that was not aftermarket, like tinted windows, and some colored bullet aluminum underhood dress up parts for the fill caps and battery hold down mount. I would get the $750 Alpine stereo upgrade kit with the DSP processor, amplifier, and powered subwoofer that mounts under the right front seat.
Other than synthetic motor oil, I pretty much would leave it stock, and just get clear front and rear license plate covers and black metal frames. And of course wheel locks, which are offered as an accessory, but I may get the aftermarket American Accessories Gorilla locks, which are more secure.

@@kencai6803 The 258 HP Normally aspirated engine has adequate power for sporty performance, without potential problems and added maintenance, and more TLC a turbocharged engine has on startup/warmup and cooldown before shut off, especially if driven hard, and have much more reliability, durability, and longevity, especially if you maintain it well, and don't thrash, and abuse it. The 6 speed manual has more reliability if you don't mind shifting, but the CVT in the Civics is pretty reliable if not abused. Just change the fluid and filter every 40K miles. I would use a good quality synthetic motor oil, and change it every 5K miles.
As I said in the previous comment, Alpine has a specific upgrade kit for the Honda Civic and another fir the Accird for those that don't have the top of the line amplified stereo system. It has a DSP processor, amplifier, and powered subwoofer, and mounts under the right front seat. It is about $750 and designed for this car. It should be available at local Alpine Car Stereo retailers, as well as from www.crutchfield.com
Since it does not have a CD player, or auxiliary audio input jack, you can use the front connection USB to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for your music on your smartphone. Ir you could have a stereo shop install an auxiliary audio input jack to play a portable CD player, most that have a buffer delay to deal with skips, an ipod, or other portable media players. Or you could use a computer to load your mp3 music files or CDs to USB flash drives. If you have lots of CDs, and even audio cassettes, and would like that music for your car, and willing to spend the money, Crutchfield also sells the professional audio brand Tascam CD player, and Cassette player recorder you could add to your home stereo system, that can transfer music from both direct to usb flash drives without a computer. Enjoy your car, and drive safely!

I think that you would be happy with the sport model even though it doesn't have all of the features that the upper trim levels have. The CVT transmission is not bad but certainly not as good as it could be if Honda would offer a DCT transmission. The reason that I got the automatic is that I wanted my wife to be able to drive it because she doesn't know how to drive a stick. If I were single I would have gotten the SI model. But my street racing days are long behind me so the new Civic Sport trim level was just fine with me. I really don't beat on my Civic at all so I'm sure that it will provide really good service. What ever trim level you decide on whether it be the sedan, hatchback or coupe you will be happy I'm sure. Safe travels and be safe.

    • @jjacob25101
      @jjacob25101 5 років тому

@@rodneybough9164 It will be a Sport Sedan at the least, with a 6 speed, if I can find it, for reliability, though I prefer an automatic, so might opt for the CVT. I like the looks of the Hatchback a little better, and more cargo room, and more performance, and the Si more so. But I would get the new Camry TRD with the option package, if I could, but that's $10K more. So the Sport Sedan should be perfect for me, knowing I would want to optimize the trouble free and cost factor, compared to the problems with some of my GM cars. Sporty, but still low key, and drives great, with enough power. My former enthusiast and law enforcement years are missing the performance that the Camry TRD and Si offer, but I think the power and handling dynamics, as well ad the comfort or the Civic Sport Sedan will suit me fine, and I can spend the rest of the money on all the regular things I add to new cars, the accessories, protective products, like good paint sealants, protective film, tinted windows, and the other things I mentioned.

Great review Raiti! This video helped me pull the trigger on a 2020 Civic EX Hatchback! I've been driving it for a month and here's my thoughts for those thinking about a new Civic. Keep in mind this is for the EX hatch, not the LX sedan!
    The good:
    - The PRICE. I went mid-level with the EX hatchback so it was a bit more than this one but you can always negotiate below MSRP. Seriously all trim levels are a killer deal.
    - The drive is smooth as butter. I came from a 2015 Focus with the horrible jerky transmission, and in comparison driving the Civic is like floating on a cloud. Smooth suspension, nice soundproofing.
    - Great acceleration for a budget car. I can merge on the freeway and pass on two lane highways very easily. Handling is fantastic. Actually feels a little sporty!
    - The MPGs are amazing. Perfect commuter AND cross country car.
    - Great cargo space on the hatch! I own a house so I bring some big boxes home from the hardware store occasionally. No problemo with this car.
    - Android Auto. Why do so many 2020 vehicles still only support Apple CarPlay? It's silly I even have to list this, but it was a pain point while car shopping.
    - Great safety technology package (minus the lane watch camera)
    My zonks:
    - The infotainment is terrible. It works just fine (and has Android Auto on the EX thank goodness), but it's outdated and looks like a 2014 Android tablet (because it basically is).
    - Rock hard center console armrest. Is a $0.25 slab of 1/4 inch foam too much to ask? It seems like a small issue but it's the one thing that annoys me on a regular basis.
    - The halogen headlights are not great with poor reach. This is coming from someone who's never had the pleasure of driving a car with LED headlights yet.
    - Honda should have dropped the lane watch passenger side mirror camera years ago for blind spot detection, or even just blind spot mirrors (which is my preference). I ended up buying some stick on blind spot mirrors from Amazon for $10, problem solved. The camera is worthless and disabled on my car.
    - Possible oil dilution problems. I advise anyone looking to buy a Honda with the 1.5L turbo to do research on this, especially if you live in colder climates. Personally, I live in northeast USA and haven't had any issues yet this winter. So this is only a potential zonk.
All in all, if you're on a budget but still want a good reliable car that is fun to drive but looks and feels sporty, I absolutely recommend this car!

Aside from possible oil dilution, you might want to also look out for possible carbon buildup on the intake valves since the 1.5T is also direct injection. That's one of the reasons I'm considering the Sport with the 2.0L engine.
That being said, I'm sure with proper maintenance you'll get plenty of miles out of the 1.5.

I hope they were able to get that issue resolved. The other great thing about all trim levels of the Civic is the fact that Honda doesn't cost cut by saddling it with a torsion beam rear suspension. Because I drive so much, I maintain regularly...even aggressively. I use only Sunoco 93 for the highest detergent of any gas. Hopefully this mitigates the carbon deposits on the valves. Haven’t had a single issue so far. Driving performance is the same as day 1...no degradation.

The stuff missing in this LX that you will get in the LE include, blind spot monitoring, GPS navigation, carplay, arm rest at back seats, eco mode that does not turn off A/C unlike what this civic does. If you are not an enthusiast, the Civic LX Sedan/Coupe is the best affordable entry level car to get. It's perfect to have 16 or 17" wheels and tires, but they should just have a nice steel wheel without cheap looking hubcaps. Otherwise, at that price point, everything is perfect for this car, especially now that it has Honda Sense standard. If you are an enthusiast of sorts, but want reliability, you can't beat the Sport, especially with the 6 Speed manual. If you want more performance, and intend to tune, tweak and modify it, the Sport Hatchback is the way to go, especially with the goodies from the 2019 Sport Sedan/Coupe it didnt have until this year, plus now, even nicer wheels, which I am disappointed the Sport Sedan does not have the new wheel design for 2020.
I still will have to wait as see what I can get, and want to opt for, out of the Sport Sedan, Hatchback, or Si Sedan.
But for $10K more, I will get the Camry TRD, If I can.

It’s now my every day driver as I have made my Mustang a garage queen. Extremely fuel efficient I get around 33 mpg combined (mainly because I switched to quieter tyres as opposed to noisy stock Dunlop ones).

@@hardikgalchar4594 I'd say if you're looking for a car that has "maturity" to it, yes. Mazda 3 has a less "tortured" design and in my opinion is geared toward older drivers I mean 40 up. This design is too busy like the Elantra's 2020. I remember a time when tie Civic was so bland. Now it is outrageously visible. At least, it's not ugly.

Lol you get what you pay off i suppose. On a serious note though 2020 corolla LE offers way more features and other goodies way cheaper than this civic LX.

They do have A/C compressor issues. I had to replace mine at 24,000 and frequently check the A/C due to it not cooling properly. Other than that no issues.

Back camera it does have as you see it.GPS does not have it, the eco mode on that civic shuts off A/C. No carplay or android auto and no blind spot monitoring either.

The Civic LX is a little too budget minded. I have a 2016 Civic Touring sedan so I'm a little biased when it comes to Civic trim levels. I would choose the Civic Sport sedan or EX-L sedan, if I was trying to get the most features with regard to cost. The Sport looks the part cosmetically and has a nice interior while the EX-L has nearly all the Touring's features. Truthfully, I'm also waiting for the Toyota fanboys to chime in on how the Corolla is superior to the Civic despite lagging behind in most direct comparison metrics (powertrain performance and handling, interior passenger and cargo storage space, trunk capacity, city and hwy mileage, front dual zone climate settings, etc.)
