I love that you throw in personal information, like your earlier comments on how coffee affects you, how you suffer from anxiety, and now, Metamucil. It makes the channel much more than just another book talk. I read very few books you do (never read King, don't like horror, etc.) but I love watching your videos. Book enthusiasm!
Your life is a big inspiration to me, tucked away in a house surrounded by books and interests, raising kids but finding time to enjoy life and culture. Impressive
Hey! Loving these videos man! Your videos have got me into reading! Currently reading my first book literally since I was in school!!…I’m 38 🤣😆 thanks! Also yeah knocked loose were awesome on the show!
My anti TBR solution I use. Go to library, search the bottom two rows, pull a book depending on the thickness you want, read said book. Hit or miss on enjoying the book but I’ve read some good ones.
Alright, you've convinced me to dabble a bit with the King. Just picked up a used copy of 11/22/63... We'll see how this goes. I'm not much for fat books, so this'll take me a while to get thru. Might not happen until 2025. My favorite book of 2024 was East of Eden, so despite my aversion to the length I still appreciate long stories.
11/22/63 might be my favorite Stephen King book and I think it’s not a typical horror novel. I’d call it a time travel/historical fiction with a bit of horror. King took a lot of time writing this book and it shows. Anyway, it’s worth a try!
@phyllisd3705 thanks for the comment, that's helpful to know. I don't believe I've ever read a proper horror book, so perhaps 11/22/63 is an easy way to dip my toe in the genre.
I read one Stephen king book every January cuz my dad loves him and likes recommending his favorites. He had me read 11-22-63 first and that one is still my favorite. Led me to read IT, The Stand, The Institute, and now The Green Mile in 2025. All of his books are immersive and his characters are so well written you end up getting invested. The size may be intimidating but it’s not once you get into the story. I hope you enjoy!
@@CJV9 thank you! Im now a couple hundred pages into 11/22/63 and enjoying it. There have already been some good setups and payoffs, it's leading me to trust Stephen King and I'm looking forward to finding out how it concludes!
The Florida School for Boys AKA Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys was a reform school in northern Florida back in the day. There is a newer book based on this school as well, The Reformatory by Tananarive Due. There are also documentaries about the horrific things that went on there. I highly recommend a deep dive.
On your recommendation I read 11/26/63 a while ago - and I AGREE wholeheartedly. This book blew me away. I even had my not often reading husband read it and he loved it as well. Great recommendation!
Oh, and I meant to mention TBRs. I love the idea of them and used to make some attempt, but now I just see what I'm in the mood for. I'm on LibraryThing, and many people there do extensively detailed TBRs at the beginning of the year, and that amazes me. But hey, I say as long as people read, I don't care what their plan is.
I read The Nickel Boys during the Pandemic. I just sat in the dark and fought through an array of emotions, tears, etc after finishing. A tough but incredible read. The Underground Railroad, also top tier. He won a Pulitzer for each book. Looking forward to TNB movie. TUR is a mini series on Prime Video.
Really like your channel. Can you maybe do a video recommendating other channels that you like (you mentioned TikTok and such) You give me motivation to read. Really!!!! Thanks 👍
My dad and two of my brothers and I all enjoyed Freedom by Franzen, and I really liked Crossroads. Semi patiently looking forward to the rest of A Key to All Mythologies.
11/22/63 is an absolute masterpiece! I’m watching the show right now. I’m not too happy with where they take the show but if I detach it from the book it’s a fairly solid watch.
The word is Toque, not hat! It's a toque. it's a spacific type of hat if the Americans are confused. Let them. Even in this climate, if they want to move here like all of them say they wanna do, they need to know the right word. ...im joke kinda that video was fun. I can't wait to pick up some of ur recs. ❤👍
Crossroads is maybe my favorite Franzen, maybe Freedom, Idk. I bet you’ll love his stuff. Also whoever threw in Gravity’s Rainbow is a menace Metamucil mixed with Benefiber is a winning combo js

Yes, I felt the same about Nickel Boys -- I kept reading back pages to see if I had been confused the entire book. Never saw that coming. 🤷🏻♀️
I remember when you couldn’t add rereads to goodreads. So annoying but now you can even reread within a year.

If you love Stoner then I would highly recommend Any Human Heart by William Boyd. It’s sometimes tragic but a really interesting read
Nick, do you have/want followers on Goodreads? If so, what is the handle there?
How are you such an Andy from the office?!?

I hate to be that guy, but 11/22/63 was not one of my fav King books.
Stop stressing about tiktok. Too much $ involved for a ban. We Americans love $ more than anything.
