i search so long for a simple and good video like this and now i know how to bend ! i missed the simple step on the object menu -> all transforms 🌟✅ thank you so much for helping me ! well done 👍
I see a lot of tutorials where people modify their mesh in object mode (even Blender Guru and other high profile blendtubers) only to add whatever modifier and say "it doesn't work well because you need to apply transforms", and I wonder if spamming "CTRL+A apply all transforms" is their actual workflow or if they show it for people who don't know that editing their mesh is best done in... Edit mode.

Well yes, 3ds max had a very good mirror system. You can at a mirror/symmetry modifier which can mirror your object in all different kind of ways. Not just pure mirror, but also flipped mirror, so the object is mirrored over then just one axis. Blender looks like it could do the same when I look at the mirror modifier, but no matter how many extra axis I enable in the modifier tab to mirror of flip my mirrored object along. I just can only get one simple mirror to work. Do you have any advice or tips within vanilla blender on this? Someone said: use hardopps, but I'd like to believe blender can do this on itself. Thanks in advance.
I think "apply transforms" is really a hack - it's better to understand why you need to do that. This video (ua-cam.com/video/bMYccraiLQU/v-deo.html) explains the "working axis" which is the key to why the simple deform tool is so hard to use!
@@3DJay429 well it doesnt bend the right way. I have to rotate the object to certain axis in order to make it work which is quite stupid. I would like to edit the bend axis aswell which I cannot I guess. So this is just lame workaround to always rotate the object to the specific axis to make the bend work.
@@MaDmonkey3311 Yea I know what you mean, how blender deals with bend is so weird, but have a look at some bend plugins, tbh i use Boxcutter/hard ops and i find it really helps with these tasks

@@3DJay429 sorry for my bad comment. I finally understood how to add segments prior to making deformations. I love Blender and its incredible potential, but its interface is sometimes soooo complicated for a noob who just wants to achieve simple things, it can be very very frustrating. So I managed to deform the cube into a "U" shape as in your tutorial. But in fact what I want to achieve instead of a U shape is a L shape, with the rounded corner. I tried to play with the Limits settings to try to achieve that, but it does not seem to be the way to go. So I'm stuck with that U that doesn't want to look like a L ;-) ...
@@skittou Hey dude it is no problem, i know how frustrating it can be with the interface when you are just starting out. I had the same issues, it is a nightmare! But the good news is you have taken that first step and figured out how to bend it now and its all just up for you now! You can use an empty as a source of the pivot and then bend around that. short and straight to the point - wish all blender guides were like this.
but didnt work :/

I know right? While this tutorial is cool and all, what if I want to make a bend of some parts of a mesh in edit mode? This doesn't help at all.
Can't get this to work. I made sure I followed all the steps exactly but when I 'apply all transforms' it looks nothing like your final product.
