- Blender how to use simple deform modifier on mesh in Blender 2.8 to bend an object. The deform modifier will allow you to bend mesh. This modifier lets your bend any mesh. Once you know how to use the deform or bending modifier it's quite easy. This video will work for Blender 2.8 and 2.79.
Straight to the business, no dumb loud intros, no beating around the bush, THANK YOU MAN
This is how all tutorials should be, clear and concise, straight to the point. We don't want long intros, we don't want Like and Subscribe pop ups, we don't want music over the talking etc., etc. Thank you sir.
You are the first person to explain the Bend tool in versions 2.8 + so well !!! That's great!! 👍👍👍👍
THANK YOU! concise, straight to the point, super detailed. I dont think I have ever had a youtube video answer ALL my sort of complex question in such a short time. I have to check out your other videos.
You are the best explainer. There are some silly people explaining blender skills with screen blur or mouse moving at speed of light or language bluffing. I paused your video even half way to comment the quality of your skills. Thank you so much. Its 4 years ago. If you get time please make on other important modifier. Many thanks once again!
You are a god tier hero, I was watching another tutorial who done this in an outrageously stupid way costing me an hour. I love you.
Great tutorial, straight to the point, factual and informative. Thank you for taking the time to make this video
This is exactly what I needed to make some bended roofs :)
Thank you very much!
Perfect! This is exactly what I was after! Thank you!
I recently landed my first 3D Job ina small firm, they wanted a Logo around a Cylinder and I only knew a bit of blender. I can say this video helped me a big step to land that Job, thank you very much!
Fake it till you make it!
Clear cut and easy to understand thank you!
This was so helpful and your voice is very nice! It was a joy to listen to you and follow along :)
Thank you very much! I was working on this render and forgot how to make curved roofs, thanks a lot man!
That's perfect for what i am going to build, like some sort of holders, this looks neat, Thanks!!!
Your tut was my first stop and I need not continue looking, problem solved. Thanks!!
This guy is the best , easy to understand 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow thank you, it helped me a lot.
this was awesome. So simplified, thanks
Thank you for this! Nice and simple. I thought it would be way more difficult.
Thank you so much. I just upgraded from Making Waves, so the concepts are familiar, but tNice tutorials is a whole new world! Look forward to
You're a damn legend mate, this video just saved my day
prolly worth mentioning that if the object to be bent has been transformed in any way, and you have not applied those transformations, this attempt to bend the object will have you entering a world of hurt;
apply the transformations (CTRL-A) and THEN do the bending
Still didn't fix my problem.
@@TheMrSnipey are you able to share your .blend file?
When I try this, I get a distorted mess. Looks like pulled taffy. The whole object won't bend, it just drags parts of it.
Probably you figure it out after 1 year but just in case ua-cam.com/video/Tdjb8wAert4/v-deo.html
Yeah, I'm getting some kind of messed up distorted hourglass shape. did you ever figure out what was wrong?
@@Coldsteak no, I gave up and used a different method. Maybe go back and watch the tutorials again. Maybe we were doing something wrong, or you could just use another method. Sometimes you just need to find a method that does work, and there are usually several.
Just what I was looking for!
Thank you! You explain very well
So informative, thanks a lot!
Love this man...Love this
Short and sweet!
That was very usefull! Thank you!
Super clear. Thank you
bro you saved me thank you
thank you, very helpful
Is there a way to do this with a hexagon to make it look kind of like a six sided star? I thought you could probably do this to just the side faces then add the top and bottom later, but this method doesn't quite work for that.
The only way I can get this to work is if I rotate the empty 90 on the Z axis and ALSO set the deform angle. Sometimes blender just is kinda weird
Yes, rotate the empty 90 degree steps if not bending correctly.
THANK YOU ! :)
thank you!!
Thanks!
blender's bend needs some kind of gizmo like 3ds max or so
Thank you man good video!
Very good explanation!
Thank you, this helped a lot
THANK YOU im using blender 2.9 and it still works!
Yea mee too
Hi, how a make bend the shape grid like he does?
How do you make the vertices move with the object? It won't work, the vertices stay in a line.
Perfect, thanks!
That's amazing!
thank you so so much i was having a hard time with that
Не смотря на то что я не всё понял что он сказал, но он отлично всё показал, спасибо !
Thanks. Love u man!
Great tutorial thanks
I'm 3dsmax user and recently try to use Blender as my primary 3d sofware. But I think 3dsmax's bend modifier is superior and very easy to use compared to Blender. You don't need to make another object to help other object bends. You can just use the object own pivot and can change it position on the fly to get different bend shapes. I hope Blender developer will improve this feature.
Still don't think that has happened but here's to another year of hoping
@@xXJumboSauceXx and another one 🙂
You don't have to make another object in Blender either. Just change the angel in the modifier settings. Creating an empty is optional.
PERFECT!!! :))
very good thank joe
Thanks for this, I'm used to 3DSMax and this seems a tad fiddly just to bend something, but it works!
Oh but he you know Max why you make something in Blender? Just curious.
Seems like this offers more control of the bend compared to the bend deformer in Maya...
@@Eradifyerao Probably, I never touched Maya though.
@@digitalx8460 Don't bother - Blender is better in so many ways...
You just got a sub man!
Thankyou! I couldn't figure out why my thingybob wasn't bending :)
Hey so when I click the "z" axis right, it turns my cube into a triangle? Is there a reason that's happening?
excellent tutorial
Super helpful!
hell yeah man thank you
Nice, thanks!!!
very helpful !! thx
Thank you dude
thanks to the widgets I now know how it works. although they should just have made it like the maya linear bend with a curve line... and reserve this for... idk... "advanced bend"
Perfect!
Thank you so much
Thank you!
Can that be applied for a single line made of several vertices ?
Hey Clean tutorial. I am currently migrating from Maya so Blender is kind of a major transition for me. "Simple Deform" is not really "Simple" ( Weird implementation) for someone who is gotten used to Maya's deformer tools. But finally figured out thanks to your tutorial. I would like to point out one subtle step that would make bending predictable (i.e.) The object to be deformed has to be 90 degrees to the axis about which it needs to Deform. So rotate the object and Apply Transform and then the deformer should be applied. Thanks !!
I have to agree with Arun SM on the subtle step. Spent an hour or so pulling my hair out knowing there was some simple missing step to make this work.
@@philaldrich2231 thanks Phil, you just saved me going totally bald!
Followed exactly as you did, got a twisted mess that doesn't rotate around anything but itself, even though I selected the empty object.
Thanks!
Thank you
And then I always have to move it around together with that empty thingy?
thank you
Are you using Producer edition?? What do y'all recomnd if I want to make s but not record my voice or tutorial?
Thank you sir
For me, everything works right... but ONLY when I do it with an absolute new general file. But I need it in a file I already have some objects I made. But here, the forms I get after I add "simple deform" modifier are more than strange and totaly different to what I got with the empty file. That is a bit disappointing.....
I had to use an Remesh-Modifier before the Simple Deform, to be able to bent the pipe (and additinally rotate the Empty). Also noticed that on Half-Pipes the Bolean Operators in Blender do not work, had to use an add on "Fast Carve" which worked. On this topic Blender should just buy some addons and include them.
Excellent
If I want to save my project in soft soft, do I have to buy it?
Thanks
thanks :)
the cube doesn’t curve, it distorts into an x shape/ hourglass shape ???
I have been battling with Curve modifiers to get what I want.. This seems easier
when i try this my object turns into some kind of low poly infinity sign?
Nice video - I created a video on my channel to try and explain how this works to.
Yes, i saw it but how a make bend the shape grid like he does?
Awesome! Thank you very much for share this video. But how can I change the style show in "Blender Shift Select Multiple" that is show in this video?
If I'm understanding your question correctly, look up Themes in blender. You can also change visual gui elements in the preferences of the program.
tHANKS!
Quick question: Is there any way to delete the empty after bending the rod and making the bent rod its own stand-alone mesh?
Yes. Just apply the modifier.
I miss Maya's deformers :( So does this not work in newer versions?
3:14 mine isnt bending like yours? I followed your tutorial but its bending in on itself?
One of those things that make blender look stupid sometimes. I switched from 3ds max and its cool for the most part, but in max you just choose bend and bend however you want. This seems more complicated.
@@lowaimnobrain you're right - if you want to bend the object around its own centre then the empty is not needed; however with the empty, you can now bend about any point you want; I think the tut would have been clearer if he'd started without the empty, done the bending about the object's own centre, then done it with an empty and shown how moving the empty gives you more control
You say you right click on the cube object? When I right click my cylinder it just brings up a menu.
New blender version, might be set to left click to select. Before 2.8 it's right click to select.
will it be identical to blender 2.7?
I was more looking for how to curve just a certain portion of the object, i am testing out making a road and want the end part to bend 90 degrees
Make it in two or more pieces (can join/union them), or use a curve for it to follow.
ua-cam.com/video/oHkzyH9dpv4/v-deo.html
I don't have the axis selecting part
It's just origin selecting tab
When I do this my mesh doesnt change what do i do?
EDIT : You have to press Apply after setting the modifier
Thank you so much, I could not find this anywhere
it a go!
1000 Likes :)
Thanks for this !
If i want it to follow a model within blender. Is there a way to freehand bend it? Im pretty new to blender. Hope you still respond older movies
No free hand bend. But you could also make mesh follow a curve you create and bend that curve by moving its vertices.
COOKING UP LIVE in soft soft!
all workеd
And where areI can make those tools appears in the screen of Blender?
press t for tools. Or do you mean 'N' for the tools on the right?
jesus, why i can't just bend stuff in one click?? thx for the vid
Whenever I apply the modifier my block just goes into a hourglass shape any suggestions?
Try rotating the empty on its x and y axis by 90 degrees until you see proper bend.
NOW I MADE IT! THAAANNKKSSS.
