Yum! This was a once a week meal growing up, my dad's favorite, slow cooked on the stove top in a covered skillet as back in the 1960s we didn't have crock pots! Served with boiled in the skins potatoes, then we'd peel our potatoes at dinner! So good! For 40+ years I've been cooking it for my hubby and kids, still a favorite!!
Mama Sue, we did your recipe today and I have to honestly say that it was the most tender cube steak I have ever cooked in my life. It was also absolutely delicious. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. 😊 Even my granddaughter loved it.
My Mama used to cook this all the time when I was a child. She didn’t have a crockpot back then. She always cooked hers in a skillet on top of the stove.
Looks good! My northern Mom would cook it w/ her canned tomatoes. sooo tender soo good. Also cooks well w/ can of rotel or salsa in a covered fry pan til done! Tomato acidify + tenderizes it.
No, it is a tough piece of meat that goes through a machine that cuts into it, to tenderize it some. It looks chopped but the blades only go part way through the meat.
Chicken fried steak is pan or deep fried. U can use cube steak or bottom round steak pounded to tenderize. Then you make cream gravy. I'm a Texan, it's how we do it
I did not grow up on this, however I do like it every blue moon with a LOT of water. I look like a blow fish from all the sodium. Had to go to the ER a couple times. My cardiologist says NO.
All these old family recipes are to be enjoyed as most originated during the depression and war times. And now passing on to younger generations. Absolutely enjoy family favorites! Low sodium doesn't mean no sodium. I cook from scratch simply to avoid processing chemicals as well as salt and sugar. I can always work around by reworking existing family favorite recipes.
There is a NO salt Campbell's Cream of Mushroom, has a blue circle on the label. Kind of hard to find! Swanson has a no salt Beef Broth, in the carton. Happy shopping..
When you and Harold come to Orange beach can I come and watch you cook one day. Sweetie I’m not a scammer or a stalker. I love you and Harold and love to met you guys and watch you cook. We live on Blue Angel Hwy.

Sorry, if this sounds naive, but what type of meat do you pick up for this recipe. I would like to try it!
It is called Cubed Steak ? It kind of looks chopped …that is done to tenderize it but still need the crock pot
