- An animated past vs present look at the lost railway line from Bedford to Northampton! #bedford #bedfordshire #northampton #northamptonshire #railway #disused #beeching
The Bedford-Northampton line was a branch of the Midland Railway which served stations in three counties: Northampton and Horton in Northamptonshire, Olney in Buckinghamshire and Turvey and Bedford in Bedfordshire, England. Opened in 1872, the intermediate stations closed to passengers in 1962, leaving a small section between Northampton and Piddington station to remain open until 1981 for the purposes of the Ministry of Defence establishment. The track remains down on another small section of the line between Northampton and Brackmills. The reopening of the line has been proposed by the Bedfordshire Railway & Transport Association.

1982 Olney station still there. Didn't pay much attention then , unfortunately. Thanks for sharing.
My father was a goods guard based at Northampton in the
1950s then we emigrated to
Australia in 1956 he must have seen the end of various railway lines! Which happened in australia as well!
Just SUPERB ! Thank you !!
Marvellous insight of a sadly lost branch. Much appreciated your efforts for giving me 15 minutes or so of simple pleasure.
Brilliant. So much to take in. Very nicely done.
Thanks! I am hoping to bring to life all the lost lines eventually! suggestions welcome.
Fantastic stuff. Thanks for loading
Brilliant, another outstanding video which I really enjoyed. So grateful for the time and effort you put in to give us wonderful entertainment. Thank you
Enjoyed that, thanks
Thank you so much for sharing this. I've always been intrigued by the history of this line, especially since I live nearby and have encountered it before. Interestingly enough, I stumbled upon your channel today and then searched for this line, coincidentally, it was uploaded less than two weeks ago.
Amazing, enjoyed that, lots of attention to detail with maximum effort put in! another great channel to match your other one !
Pity that there is no pictures of Northampton St Johns. Otherwise another good video. Do Northampton to Market Harborough sometime
The restrictions of copyright. If you have any photos of stations that you are happy for me to use in these films I am happy to update a lot of these videos with more archive photos!
Every year local community groups say they've found a feasible way to reopen this route (which is needed now more than ever as the 41 isn't sufficient for public transport), and every year it goes nowhere.
I was amazed at how much of the line has not been built on. Getting through Northampton is a problem though & if the line cannot serve the current station there, then it loses much of its value.
Oxford-Bletchley is only just about to be re-opened but that is part of a more useful east-west route & none of the track bed was ever re-developed.
Omg amazing! Are you going to do Peterborough to Northampton via Oundle? 😊😊
