I've listen to Adele and 7 other covers of this...l've completely lost track of how many times l've listened to Angelina's version. There are so many observations concerning Angelina's version...My most basic observation is : The major difference from all the covers I've heard ( keep in mind, l have heard many talented singers do this), Is Angelina is the only one that brings SOUL to it. I think that's why black folks get her quicker than anyone else. I'm a jazz lover, and l understand from Angie's background and phrasing why people call her a jazz singer, but honestly she is a SOUL singer, not necessarily in R&B sense, but naturally in truth.
I love Adele's version, it is first class but Angelina has edged her. The first time I heard this I was struck by the fact that Adele was Angelina's age when Angelina was born! How good will she be at 30?

I'm going to go WAY out on a limb here . . . I will share with you what I feel is Angelina's unique viewpoint that led to her great interpretation of this song. I believe Angelina immersed herself in what her life would have been like if she had been raised in a much less warmly supportive environment than she has been -- or even one as dysfunctional as AW's was. She was actually feeling empathy in this song for that much less fortunate Angelina . . . and for other performers before her who lacked the support they needed. . . . and when she was done, I'm sure she appreciated what she has today through her amazing family even more.
So many reactors say, I didn't expect this, haha. In the same breath we think, well it's Angelina, of course we expect this. We can't expect anything less. It's Angelina! I hope she always surprises us with the unexpected.
The trouble with Angelina's covers is she is just so good that no matter how long the video is , you just get lost in her voice and before you know it it is over, and you think no no no I want more. Agree Adam this was performance was just a at a level that not many could attain. it deserves all kinds of awards.
Not enough is ever said about Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, for it was she who exposed her granddaughter to jazz when she was a baby. Being a child prodigy herself (art and poetry), she knew that special babies could absorb formal music, including lyrics, at a much earlier time in life than average humans can. As you know, Angelina first began singing aloud by 1-1/2. When Angelina sings heartfelt ballads you can detect nuance and inflections that were done by Billie Holiday (old style jazz) and Amy Winehouse, the most uniquely different jazz singer of all time. Adele is great, but there is no way a non-jazz singer, even a great one like Adele, can match the passion that goes to the deepest parts of the human soul by Angelina. Thank you, Mery Zamani, for I believe there is no way Angelina could have progressed as fast as she has without your involvement in her life.

And Michael is a terrific uncle/manager/father figure. But the bond between Angelina and Mery is beyond special. That bond is at the center of the meaning and purpose in both their lives. It's true that Angelina used a number of different vocal tools here but we should be quite hesitant to say she used all her skills. We know that Angelina's self-directed performance arts education has her taking big songs and delivering them, even elevating them with changes small or large. No one is immune, no artist off limits, no masterwork is safe. She has been doing such her whole career. I think she is, in her sweet Angelina way, making a bit of a statement with this one. As when she covered Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love" and sang the lyric "You ain't seen nothin' like me yet", this whole performance is Angelina saying 'Get ready, I'm coming'..

Adam, You did not have to say a word for this to be the best reaction of Angelina and this song yet! The look on your face from the first word to the end was priceless!! I personally think that Angelina has always shown a degree of maturing with each song over her last one, and the last 4-5 song have been almost unbelievable. BUT, with this cover she has almost totally reached adult vocal maturity even thou she is only 15! It blows my mind to even try to think what her voice and talent will be like by the time she is 20! It’s stunning what Angelina can do with her voice. And you can see that she has complete confidence in every note. Despite the extremes of belting, head voice, whispering, vibrato, runs, riffs, melismas, etc., she never makes you feel that the vocals are challenging to her. Her effort, if you can describe it that way, is in the emotion she puts into delivering the lyrics. And her innate musicality keeps surprising us. We want to her Angelina’s take on a new song because we’re listening to every line, waiting to see how she is going to put her stamp on it. This song is just stunning. I thought when Angelina was about 11 or 12 that she was the best singer I ever heard. I still feel that way, but she has gotten better every year. How does anyone sing this song better? And what can Angelina do five years from now? 10 years? 30 years?

As excpected it was a great reaction Adam. I'm with you in all points you made. Angelina shines through this performance and after maybe 20 times hearing it, this feels always like the first. I too think this her best yet, a turning point perhaps, telling us all that she's ready to take over the world. I'm sure she will, soon enough.
The unique thing about Angelina's runs that I have always noted is that they are not forced or "inserted" into the song. The runs she does are just very natural and fit where she puts them like they are just part of the expression.
Angelina is a great artist with a hypnotizing voice, but obviously she can directly relate to this song her own. ( i was still a child, didn't have the chance to...) Must have been a real lark for her family, to deal with her. When she wrote " Shield", she sang "forgive me for all that I am"... Now, "go easy on me". Remember, the tears, running down her mothers face, when she performed "Gloomy Sunday" on NGT? For me these tears always were the tears of a mother, being overwhelmed and realizing, she had to share her little baby with the whole world from this moment on. And Sara Astar and her Grandma Mery Zamani always had her back, guided her, protected her and let her dream come true, as good as possible. So yes, Angelina surely has an own relation to this song from many reasons. And she loves Adelle and can feel her...

Having followed Angelina on her journey to be on the world stage, I can confidently say that, for me, there is no song that I've heard Angelina sing that is more appealing. You captured an emotion that I suspect that most of Angelina's fans experience and I experienced it again in listening to your reaction. As I listened, I too felt very proud and this is, at this point in the journey, what I seem to experience most often - this overwhelming sense of pride for what she accomplishes with her music. I have often thought, "There is no way that she can top what I'm listening to, but then, she does top it with her next release and, with this cover, it has left no doubt that her growth as an artist continues unabated. Adam, great reaction. AJ's runs are so distinct -- fully agree -- but also her vocal fry is just so controlled and on pitch. I mean, who pitches vocal fry? And then add the breathiness as contrast to the fry . . . it's over the top control. AJ is about class and control. And then the weird thing is, all the emotion gets added as well. She holds the emotion back, then releases it in fry and breathiness. It's just astonishing how she commands her voice. She just controls my reaction to her performance in a way that I've never heard before. This is her genius.
AJ does super clean runs, and she does them with a jazz singer timing, and great creativity! AJ's timing in this song when she goes "eeeassy ON me" is a bit different from Adeles, and to my ears more tasteful. Dang I love her taste!

OUTSTANDING REVIEW Adam! KUDOS. This is now my fave AJ performance. The "head voice" got me since we don't get it often and the runs are always to perfection, making each note in the run special. The last phrasing with the big belt just slaps you in the face and then followed with such a soulful run. Her body language and gestures added to this performance as well. You're right she really showed so much of her arsenal but not overdone. She recently did a cover of "ENDLESS LOVE" and "FIELDS OF GOLD" on TikTok that are spectacular! Thanks Adam
Great reaction & I totally agree with what you said. This is her best work & she just keeps getting better & better. She used a lot of her musical tools in this, more than in any other song she has sung so far, but by no means did she use all of them. Until you have heard all her 150 or so songs, & the multiple versions of the same song sung in different styles, will you see all she's got & by then she will have probably perfected a few new ones. She is still a child and singing like this. That was her grandmother in the beginning. There is something about the rasp in her voice that adds texture to the song. I really liked the ending because she makes it sound like she has been through a lot and is exhausted and pleading for a respite. I really did not get that from Adele's version. Adele has talked about wanting to retire. She might want to just write and let Angelina perform. Did anyone hear a little Janis Joplin from time to time.
I could definetly hear Janis Joplin /Tina Turner when she sang "LOVING YOU" when she was age 11. That night (outdoor concert) she was in "Beast Mode" First I was shocked, and amazed, but it quickly turned into being so proud of her. Now she is a statuesque 6+ tall, and so mature looking, and acting that she is definetly ready for concerts on the world stage, with her as the headliner.

It's her Grandma Mery and Angelina in the Control Room of the Studio. Grandma Mery just recently had an operation and Angelina was very emotional around that time. So here they are in a control room .. I'm sure many many times they've been right there .. ready to hear a recording or see a video .. beautiful indeed. It actually made me teary even before she started singing!

I don’t go out like I used to . . . and it was more new wave jazz reggae rock... in the more recent years, small clubs like City Winery, Joe’s Pub, Pangea. Fun places like Club Cumming (Alan C’s place). Years ago there were too many places to mention...I was out 3-4 nights a week). Whatever you do, music or theater or museums ...good food... (whatever is open and hopefully easily accessible re Covid ) Have a great time! I was in England only once ...decades ago. My niece and her husband and kids moved to London 10 years ago. She comes back summertime so at least I get to see them once a year. Hopefully I’ll get to see them and England next year.
Watching this again I think when you start talking about Angelina doesn't do a run just for the runs sake she does them because they fit the song and the song wouldn't be the same without it. I get the same feeling when listening to Daneliya. Neither she nor Angelina puts runs or other little add-ons just because they can. They put them in the song because they are essential. I these two young singers 'My Twins' mainly because I found them 3 days apart in November of 2017. Then they were both born in 2006. They both won major singing/talent shows at a young age. They both have incredible families and their total support. They both have voices that are more adult than they are kids voices. They both are exceedingly brilliant musically, but also in other areas as well. They both are humble and approachable. They are both incredibly beautiful in appearance. It is a shame that some fans from cannot find the space in their hearts for both these phenomenal young singers. I know you have given favorable reactions to both and I love both these young ladies as if they were my granddaughters. Thank you Adam for, above all else, being able to have room for both these singers. An aside, I have chronic health issues and am in pain, all the time. Often that pain jumps on me with both feet especially in the middle of the night when the meds stop being effective. So while waiting for the latest dose to take hold, I surf the 'Net' looking for exactly what I found in those three days. Anyway, I wanted to tell you thanks for being open to having the room to be a fan of more than one singer.

The woman you see with Angelina, in the beginning, is her grandmother Mery who is the major guiding force in Angelina's artistic life. She introduced Jazz to Angelina when she was a baby. It is also important to keep in mind that Angelina's grandmother is a well-known artist (painter) and poet who, herself was a child prodigy. As far as the men in the video, one of them are Rob Christie, who is in charge of the Republic Records Los Angeles Studio and has been Angelina's pianist on more recent videos. The other person I am not sure of but is most likely the recording engineer.

No, it's not her parents. It's the engineer and piano player, the woman is her grandmother, who, as an Angelina fan, you should certainly know by now. You'll never see her father (a choice) and her mother is a tall, blonde beauty. I agree with you, though, this just shows you how good she is. She recorded some beautiful artistic videos for Angelina's songs (e.g "Fly Me To The Moon, acoustic version" or "Keep Smiling"), also she designed the costumes for Angelina's live performances, the suit A.'s wearing on AGT (Bohemian Rhapsody) is printed with images from one of Mery's paintings. Mery also was the one who introduced Angelina to Jazz (Etta James etc...). She and Angelina have a very deep and strong bond, so Angelina was very anxious and sad when Mery had to undergo serious cancer surgery recently, she's still recovering, so all of us Angels were very happy to see her in that studio with Angelina! Mery e.g. is also to be seen in the b/w recording of "I Put A Spell On You", and sometimes in the audience with the rest of her family (also her dad can be spottet occasionally...) when Angelina is playing in public... That was grandma Mery who recently had successful cancer surgery, and looks to be recovering well. Taking up her familiar post at Angelina's side. It is easy to see how important that connection is just from that one picture alone, especially if you've never had that bond. This one comes from her true heart. .reaching out and snatching that high note was done so well it really got to me. I feel another level of singing has been reached by Angelina. There is an extra edge to this song that wasn't there before. I think I know and probably many others have also figured it out too. That was a special couple of frames of pictures at the start, that tell the story. Thank you Adam for your priceless responses to Angelina's offering. This song was special to her and for you, and now the rest of us. Thank you again.
Adam, you're one of the best and most insightful reactors of Angelina. I love your honest and genuine appreciation for this incredible artist. And to think she is not quite 16 years old. Few artists have achieved such perfection by this age. You're able to appreciate both her technical skills but more importantly the emotional connection she is able to instinctively and effortlessly make to us. There is no explanation for her ability to "connect " with us. She truly has a "supernatural" ability to convay the emotion of the lyrics like no other artist in my lifetime (72 years so far). I've listen to Adele and 7 other covers of this...l've completely lost track of how many times l've listened to Angelina's version. There are so many observations concerning Angelina's version...My most basic observation is : The major difference from all the covers I've heard ( keep in mind, l have heard many talented singers do this), Is Angelina is the only one that brings SOUL to it. I think that's why black folks get her quicker than anyone else. I'm a jazz lover, and l understand from Angie's background and phrasing why people call her a jazz singer, but honestly she is a SOUL singer, not necessarily in R&B sense, but naturally in truth.
Adam, your comments are absolutely perfect. To me, this is Angelina's best performance yet...a perfect cover of a great Adele song. Ear candy!
I love Adele's version, it is first class but Angelina has edged her. The first time I heard this I was struck by the fact that Adele was Angelina's age when Angelina was born! How good will she be at 30?

I'm going to go WAY out on a limb here . . . I will share with you what I feel is Angelina's unique viewpoint that led to her great interpretation of this song.
I believe Angelina immersed herself in what her life would have been like if she had been raised in a much less warmly supportive environment than she has been -- or even one as dysfunctional as AW's was. She was actually feeling empathy in this song for that much less fortunate Angelina . . . and for other performers before her who lacked the support they needed.
. . . and when she was done, I'm sure she appreciated what she has today through her amazing family even more.

it was she who exposed her granddaughter to jazz when she was a baby.
Being a child prodigy herself (art and poetry), she knew that special babies
could absorb formal music, including lyrics, at a much earlier time in life
than average humans can. As you know, Angelina first began singing aloud
by 1-1/2. When Angelina sings heartfelt ballads you can detect nuance and
inflections that were done by Billie Holiday (old style jazz) and Amy Winehouse,
the most uniquely different jazz singer of all time. Adele is great, but there is
no way a non-jazz singer, even a great one like Adele, can match the passion
that goes to the deepest parts of the human soul by Angelina. Thank you,
Mery Zamani, for I believe there is no way Angelina could have progressed
as fast as she has without your involvement in her life.
Overall, Mery is probably the single most influential person in Angelina's life. Without Mery, there would be no Angelina as we know her.

And Michael is a terrific uncle/manager/father figure. But the bond between Angelina and Mery is beyond special. That bond is at the center of the meaning and purpose in both their lives. I can only imagine the horrible feeling experienced by Angelina while watching her beloved grandma being wheeled into surgery. Watching how they touch at the beginning of "Easy on Me", brought tears to my eyes. I believe, when there is a bond like they have, it can only come from grandparent/grandchild. And anyone who gets to experience that is indeed Blessed.
It's true that Angelina used a number of different vocal tools here but we should be quite hesitant to say she used all her skills. We know that Angelina's self-directed performance arts education has her taking big songs and delivering them, even elevating them with changes small or large. No one is immune, no artist off limits, no masterwork is safe. She has been doing such her whole career. I think she is, in her sweet Angelina way, making a bit of a statement with this one. As when she covered Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love" and sang the lyric "You ain't seen nothin' like me yet", this whole performance is Angelina saying 'Get ready, I'm coming'..

Adam, You did not have to say a word for this to be the best reaction of Angelina and this song yet! The look on your face from the first word to the end was priceless!! I personally think that Angelina has always shown a degree of maturing with each song over her last one, and the last 4-5 song have been almost unbelievable. BUT, with this cover she has almost totally reached adult vocal maturity even thou she is only 15! It blows my mind to even try to think what her voice and talent will be like by the time she is 20! It’s stunning what Angelina can do with her voice. And you can see that she has complete confidence in every note. Despite the extremes of belting, head voice, whispering, vibrato, runs, riffs, melismas, etc., she never makes you feel that the vocals are challenging to her. Her effort, if you can describe it that way, is in the emotion she puts into delivering the lyrics. And her innate musicality keeps surprising us. We want to her Angelina’s take on a new song because we’re listening to every line, waiting to see how she is going to put her stamp on it. This song is just stunning.
I thought when Angelina was about 11 or 12 that she was the best singer I ever heard. I still feel that way, but she has gotten better every year. How does anyone sing this song better? And what can Angelina do five years from now? 10 years? 30 years?

The unique thing about Angelina's runs that I have always noted is that they are not forced or "inserted" into the song. The runs she does are just very natural and fit where she puts them like they are just part of the expression.

Angelina is a great artist with a hypnotizing voice, but obviously she can directly relate to this song her own. ( i was still a child, didn't have the chance to...) Must have been a real lark for her family, to deal with her. When she wrote " Shield", she sang "forgive me for all that I am"... Now, "go easy on me". Remember, the tears, running down her mothers face, when she performed "Gloomy Sunday" on NGT? For me these tears always were the tears of a mother, being overwhelmed and realizing, she had to share her little baby with the whole world from this moment on. And Sara Astar and her Grandma Mery Zamani always had her back, guided her, protected her and let her dream come true, as good as possible. So yes, Angelina surely has an own relation to this song from many reasons. And she loves Adelle and can feel her...

Having followed Angelina on her journey to be on the world stage, I can confidently say that, for me, there is no song that I've heard Angelina sing that is more appealing. You captured an emotion that I suspect that most of Angelina's fans experience and I experienced it again in listening to your reaction. As I listened, I too felt very proud and this is, at this point in the journey, what I seem to experience most often - this overwhelming sense of pride for what she accomplishes with her music. Adam, great reaction. AJ's runs are so distinct -- fully agree -- but also her vocal fry is just so controlled and on pitch. I mean, who pitches vocal fry? And then add the breathiness as contrast to the fry . . . it's over the top control. AJ is about class and control. And then the weird thing is, all the emotion gets added as well. She holds the emotion back, then releases it in fry and breathiness. It's just astonishing how she commands her voice. She just controls my reaction to her performance in a way that I've never heard before. This is her genius.
AJ does super clean runs, and she does them with a jazz singer timing, and great creativity! AJ's timing in this song when she goes "eeeassy ON me" is a bit different from Adeles, and to my ears more tasteful. Dang I love her taste!

OUTSTANDING REVIEW Adam! KUDOS. This is now my fave AJ performance. The "head voice" got me since we don't get it often and the runs are always to perfection, making each note in the run special. The last phrasing with the big belt just slaps you in the face and then followed with such a soulful run. Her body language and gestures added to this performance as well. You're right she really showed so much of her arsenal but not overdone. She recently did a cover of "ENDLESS LOVE" and "FIELDS OF GOLD" on TikTok that are spectacular! Thanks Adam

Great reaction & I totally agree with what you said. This is her best work & she just keeps getting better & better. She used a lot of her musical tools in this, more than in any other song she has sung so far, but by no means did she use all of them. Until you have heard all her 150 or so songs, & the multiple versions of the same song sung in different styles, will you see all she's got & by then she will have probably perfected a few new ones. She is still a child and singing like this. That was her grandmother in the beginning. There is something about the rasp in her voice that adds texture to the song. I really liked the ending because she makes it sound like she has been through a lot and is exhausted and pleading for a respite. I really did not get that from Adele's version. Adele has talked about wanting to retire. She might want to just write and let Angelina perform. Did anyone hear a little Janis Joplin from time to time.
I could definetly hear Janis Joplin /Tina Turner when she sang "LOVING YOU" when she was age 11. That night (outdoor concert) she was in "Beast Mode" First I was shocked, and amazed, but it quickly turned into being so proud of her. Now she is a statuesque 6+ tall, and so mature looking, and acting that she is definetly ready for concerts on the world stage, with her as the headliner.

It's her Grandma Mery and Angelina in the Control Room of the Studio. Grandma Mery just recently had an operation and Angelina was very emotional around that time. So here they are in a control room .. I'm sure many many times they've been right there .. ready to hear a recording or see a video .. beautiful indeed. It actually made me teary even before she started singing!

I don’t go out like I used to . . . and it was more new wave jazz reggae rock... in the more recent years, small clubs like City Winery, Joe’s Pub, Pangea. Fun places like Club Cumming (Alan C’s place). Years ago there were too many places to mention...I was out 3-4 nights a week).
Whatever you do, music or theater or museums ...good food... (whatever is open and hopefully easily accessible re Covid ) Have a great time! I was in England only once ...decades ago. My niece and her husband and kids moved to London 10 years ago. She comes back summertime so at least I get to see them once a year. Hopefully I’ll get to see them and England next year.
Watching this again I think when you start talking about Angelina doesn't do a run just for the runs sake she does them because they fit the song and the song wouldn't be the same without it. I get the same feeling when listening to Daneliya. Neither she nor Angelina puts runs or other little add-ons just because they can. They put them in the song because they are essential. I these two young singers 'My Twins' mainly because I found them 3 days apart in November of 2017. Then they were both born in 2006. They both won major singing/talent shows at a young age. They both have incredible families and their total support. They both have voices that are more adult than they are kids voices. They both are exceedingly brilliant musically, but also in other areas as well. They both are humble and approachable. They are both incredibly beautiful in appearance. It is a shame that some fans from cannot find the space in their hearts for both these phenomenal young singers. I know you have given favorable reactions to both and I love both these young ladies as if they were my granddaughters. Thank you Adam for, above all else, being able to have room for both these singers.
An aside, I have chronic health issues and am in pain, all the time. Often that pain jumps on me with both feet especially in the middle of the night when the meds stop being effective. So while waiting for the latest dose to take hold, I surf the 'Net' looking for exactly what I found in those three days. Anyway, I wanted to tell you thanks for being open to having the room to be a fan of more than one singer.

The woman you see with Angelina, in the beginning, is her grandmother Mery who is the major guiding force in Angelina's artistic life. She introduced Jazz to Angelina when she was a baby. It is also important to keep in mind that Angelina's grandmother is a well-known artist (painter) and poet who, herself was a child prodigy. As far as the men in the video, one of them are Rob Christie, who is in charge of the Republic Records Los Angeles Studio and has been Angelina's pianist on more recent videos. The other person I am not sure of but is most likely the recording engineer.

No, it's not her parents. It's the engineer and piano player, the woman is her grandmother, who, as an Angelina fan, you should certainly know by now. You'll never see her father (a choice) and her mother is a tall, blonde beauty. I agree with you, though, this just shows you how good she is. She recorded some beautiful artistic videos for Angelina's songs (e.g "Fly Me To The Moon, acoustic version" or "Keep Smiling"), also she designed the costumes for Angelina's live performances, the suit A.'s wearing on AGT (Bohemian Rhapsody) is printed with images from one of Mery's paintings. Mery also was the one who introduced Angelina to Jazz (Etta James etc...). She and Angelina have a very deep and strong bond, so Angelina was very anxious and sad when Mery had to undergo serious cancer surgery recently, she's still recovering, so all of us Angels were very happy to see her in that studio with Angelina! Mery e.g. is also to be seen in the b/w recording of "I Put A Spell On You", and sometimes in the audience with the rest of her family (also her dad can be spottet occasionally...) when Angelina is playing in public... That was grandma Mery who recently had successful cancer surgery, and looks to be recovering well. Taking up her familiar post at Angelina's side. It is easy to see how important that connection is just from that one picture alone, especially if you've never had that bond. This one comes from her true heart. .reaching out and snatching that high note was done so well it really got to me. I feel another level of singing has been reached by Angelina. There is an extra edge to this song that wasn't there before. I think I know and probably many others have also figured it out too. That was a special couple of frames of pictures at the start, that tell the story.

Adam, you're one of the best and most insightful reactors of Angelina. I love your honest and genuine appreciation for this incredible artist. And to think she is not quite 16 years old. Few artists have achieved such perfection by this age. You're able to appreciate both her technical skills but more importantly the emotional connection she is able to instinctively and effortlessly make to us. There is no explanation for her ability to "connect " with us. She truly has a "supernatural" ability to convay the emotion of the lyrics like no other artist in my lifetime (72 years so far).
