Ardberts tale is one of sadness, good intentions and mistakes. But it's a story that most of us can relate to in terms of themes, unless you too have traveled between worlds to save your own. :p This was the MOST requested tribute, with at least a dozen of you requesting it. Thank you all for the support these videos have been getting, you're all amazing.
they really took the generic main character on the cover of the box and turned him into my favorite character in FFXIV

Ardbert was and is "The Warrior of Light". He saved his world from all darkness. Then he embraced the mantle of saving it through others and accepted the fact he would never be regarded as a hero anymore. He was casted as a villain, but yet he fought and paid the ultimate sacrafice to save his world. This man is... a hero.
he in fact, is part of us, and we are part of him.
ardbert is our reflection on the first, when hydaelyn split the world, she split everyone, into 13 different reflections plus the source, thats why dude in the place in the underwater city said you and ardy have same color soul, you were once whole, or some shit like that
nathan madden. you and ardbert were ascian, a 14th member of the ascian council, a good friend of emet selch, That’s why emet freaks out when he sees the hooded figure (when you and ardbert join souls) because he sees his old friend, and greatest enemy

@@georgewashington7982 Greatest enemy? Whilst they had disagreements, Azem and Emet were actually close to the point Emet went behind the backs of others and made the 14th Crystal for Azem. Unless you meant in the context of us fighting him, then we are his enemy indeed.
At any rate, I loved how they weaved this tragic tale through past and present.

God damn Artbert made my emotions explode in Shadowbringers.
When i saw him walk into Crystarium with his clean axe and his friends, i started crying. And I am a 39 year old man. That is the true power of excellent character development and story telling
For me it was the part with his mount
Same part. I kept it together the whole of Shadowbringers until just that moment.
Ardbert is the creators true way of making you hate a character, only to turn it around and turn it into nothing more than love and understanding why he turned to be the way he was. A misguided soul, that had nothing but love for his world, it's people and his mount :( I give the creator the biggest Kudos for making me go from urgh! this guy to OMG this guy ... and legitimately cry for yet another character other than Haucherfont and Ysale.

The most heartbreaking thing was seeing Ardbert hoping and pleading that his axe would find its mark, only for it to met with the last screams of a fresh recruit
that shit gets me everytime, i was even rooting for him to find purchase with his axe, i was sitting here screaming in my chair "come on godsdamnit work!"
The most insulting thing about that scene is literally 5 seconds later your character appears with a fucking army. Then it suddenly turns all sunshine and shit. Like what the fuck was that slap in the face.
@@Zwei22 No the worst part is the line that follows. "Though your victory's be hollow claim them." Literally admitting that there are times where your win comes with nothing to gain.
@@Ninjaman9323 I didn't see that part as all too serious. Mainly because that applies realistically to any mmorpg. "I know you just went through this dungeon that took 5 hours to gain a specific drop but... hey at least you got all those slime jellies right?"
That's what I was thinking of when he said hollow victories.
that part killed me inside. Having him standing there and hearing the sounds of a man dying because he could literally do nothing to save him, and him blaming himself. Dear me, the Gods dealt him a cruel blow. And what makes me a little angry on the inside, is how we get to saunter around and reaping the victories and the support of the people, BY LITERALLY DOING THE SAME THINGS AS THEY DID! We get called hero, he gets called villain. It wrecks me.1
Ardbert is a reminder that people can have the best intentions and still fail. Perspective is important.

This man was in true, pure hell, wandering the world as a shade without the company of his friends, living nothing but his failures day after day. And yet...he had the compassion to say that it was nothing compared to what Emet-Selch went through. Ardbert is my favourite character from FF14!

My favorite character in the entire story. I loved him when they all first appeared in Heavensward, but Shadowbringers fleshed him out so well.
I'm torn. He finally got the rest he was searching for, but I also want him to speak up in our consciousness from time to time. Surely the Echo can manage at least that, right? ... Right?

I rather him having this great closure than this being dragged out, also Ardbert is a part of WoL/WoD so it makes 0 sense that Ardbert soul would go anywhere but fused with us like all of the other WoL from the rejoined worlds. Let Ardbert rest.
He's probably in there making comments about your glamour choices and dumb decisions. Kind of like Nail from DBZ Abridged in Piccolo's mind.

I need a patch where the first recognizes them as the heroes they are. I would love to see a statue of them in honor of their sacrifice.
Please let that be a patch.
I didn't realize I needed this until now.
Sadly endings aren't always this happy. But what is happy is Ardbert finding peace, his mission finally accomplished, and his friends waiting for him on the other side.
Mayhaps not a statue, but we now can see his legend restored.
Thankfully the Cardinal Virtues gives the heroes the closure they needed

Man I will miss him.. I liked him more then the rest of the support cast.

he has so many strong moments and when he failed to save the Crystarium troops from that sin eater I nearly cried. All he wanted to do was help :(
As we talked for the first time with his voice. I hope we talk again. Showing that we have grow as we become more rejoined. That would rock!

When Arbert tried to protect those two soldiers from the sin eater. I felt his pain i understood his hope that he could hit it at least once it was a deep depression and I'm glad now he can find peace.
(I love how people say that games affect us in a negative way and yet these moments exist.)

Ardbert's arc from Heavensward to the end of Shadowbringers is truly epic.
This is even more poignant and striking after the events of patch 5.3. My word. Every character this expansion has been a mastercraft all years in the making, all coming together for this beautiful masterpiece of a storyline.
Thank you for making this! I’ll miss him. At first, I found him annoying and didn’t really care about him. But by the end of SHB he had become my favourite character and I realised that he had once been just like us, but had fallen into the Ascians’ trap.The part with Seto telling us that he thought Ardbert deserved to be happy almost made me cry lol. I know he’s gone but I hope somehow we’ll get to see more of him. After all he’s still with us but just merged with our soul..

I WAS CRYING BEFORE YOU EVEN GOT TO SHB CONTENT PROPER. I would do anything to be able to have an instance in the game you can visit any time and just acknowledge his existence.
These tributes are killing me! Ardbert was a damn hero! He was a hero to the very end! And screw anyone who thinks otherwise! And I will miss him. I loved the chats in the inn room. Especially the one about Seto.
I admit I smiled and teared up seeing his face light up and him become full of life again after asking him about Seto. I loved it cause other times he was just so down in the dumps and deep in shallow
Yes that part made me tear up too. Especially because Ardbert was right there and Seto wasn’t able to see him. It also made me happy in a way since Ardbert realised that he was still loved even though it seemed like the world hated him.
this whole expac made me weep, from the time ardy comes back from beyond to emets fading away at the end, tesleen getting turned into a sin eater and doing the dungeon with alisaie was heartbreaking, seeing g'raha tias face again after so long, that was the icing on the cake
@@1jidion I agree. This has been an exceptional expansion. It's been night and day compared to the WoW expansion. Shadowbringers has been phenomenal.

I'm glad he finally cleaned off his axe before rejoining his friends. The blood coated all over it was distracting at times in the more poignant moments!
The blood is just the "recolor" of Bravura Atma tho
@@Konpekikaminari It's not really a recolor, all the Warriors of Darkness use Atma relics. Bravura Atma has the same bloodstains that Ardbert's does.

But rather that the bloodstains _are_ the recolor, as in they are the changr from zenith to Atma (as opposed to say, Gae Bolg, which turns blue)

My favorite character in the game by a mile! I love how I thought he was a villain as the warrior of darkness but there was so much more to his story. I got drawn into it and I loved shadowbringer so much.

This character made me cry multiple times such an amazing character who deserved to to be happy he’s a hero just the same as our warrior of light I will always love this character and will miss him in the story a lot

@@MA-yu2ss Well, Lamitt never revealed them because she didn't want to risk upsetting the group's dynamic, bearing in mind that as a Dwarf she is from a beast tribe, compared to how Lalafells are a spoken race on the source. Of note, the book specifically describes her longing for Ardbert as physical as well as emotional.....so yeah.

Jesus Christ this was freakin' beautiful. It's been so long since I've seen anything relating to Heavansward, Shadowbringers since Im more or less at endgame for EW now, but god DAMN this got me cryin ;3;
I wish there was like, a whole separate game that was just about Ardbert and his companions trials and dungeons etc....What a great story it would be.

The voice actor who played Ardbert is second only to Aymeric, and its damn close. If it wasn't so far into the journey, I'd roll an alt just to have him with me again
For me it's Elidibus > Ardbert > Emet-Selch > Aymeric, but I appreciate all of them, the voice acting is one of the best things in FFXIV.

Easily the greatest support character side arc in FF history. Love Ardbert, the story, the development, the message himself and his friends sent. Too much good is the real evil. Balance is key.

When i have to descripe shadowbringers in one word...it would be: sacrifice.
I liked his Japanese voice because it’s the same voice as Archer Emiya from Fate series 😂😂😂😂 all I could hear during quests related to him is red archer. They share a similar world view and past too

This 1st party from the opening cutscenes for 1.x. who we have followed through all this time.
He now has a name in the story, and an amazing wrap-up to the parties storyline.
Gendry does so well in this role.

My PC is going to main WAR and get the armor, Bravura axe and even the hairstyle because of this man.
FFXIV continues to have the best narrative of any MMO on the market. I love this game.
also for those looking for more story on these friends, complete all the role questlines and talk to the dark skinned elezen wench in that same area, it continues that story and gives a cool title, also ties into another story relating to the warring triad so i recommend completing that story too for even more

My hope is that somehow, through the power of Hydaelyn, we will bring back the Warriors of Darkness, and they will fight alongside us, to save both worlds. I don't want their story to end yet.

Ardbert was ShadowBringers emotional punching bag. Everything that could of gone wrong for him and his friends did, and he was punished for doing what was right. He couldn't save them, he couldn't save anyone because some unseen goddess needed him for one singular moment. She made him watch as men, women and children were eaten alive by Sin Eaters.
I'm glad he finally got some measure of peace.

This expansion hurt my soul on multiple occasions....
Since the WoL can still hear him from time to time and his consciousness still seems to exist in there, I like to imagine that Ardbert, Frey, and Myst (and Midgardsormr, come to think of it) are like Kami and Nail in Piccolo's head from Dragonball Z Abridged.
I really just can't get into the Japanese VAs ffxiv is one of the few games where the English voices are some of my favorite of all time Ardbert is just one example of it, but my God I love the English dub in this game

i don't care what the people say, he and his party were the warriors of light of the First... this expansion have a lot of characters with dreams to fight for, with heroic dead, ardbert is this one, he had to bear the burden of staying dead thinking he made a mistake and other stuff he have to live allready being dead, without peace... i have the theory since emet selch (rest in peace) took us as one of his own, an ascian, yes maybe we are an ascian from that 1 world he told us, but one that got temptered by hydaelyn (ifrit= i can't tempter you, you allready have an owner), and he said something that every ascian got splitted in 14, 14 worlds 14 parts of the same subjects, as they were, 14 lahabreas, ardbert... is one of us, 1 got splitted in 14 of us, 7 worlds ended, 7 calamitys happened, and so.. 7 of us should be living, 7 warriors of light, 1 for each remaining world, the WoL with ardbert became 1, cause he was a part of us, and THATS WHY EMET SELCH SAW US AS ONE OF HIS PEOPLE,.... and so he said "no... it can't be...."

It's kindof implied that's where the 'other heroes from across the rift' came from. Either past versions of us from other shards that had been rejoined or the remaining living ones. All called in through the Crystal Tower to end this.
The player character has been rejoined seven times

Ardbert is 100% on par with ramza Beoulve(not sure how to spell that name) in character writing and development. Easily my favorite character in all of final fantasy
What a great and apt comparison. They both were heroes that paid the ultimate price doing the right thing and get reviled for it because history is cruel.
