Good video Peter. Your bees look good for this time of the year. Saturday I saw my bees get there first natural pollen of the year. We are about two weeks behind last year. Too much of Ian's weather here in MN. LOL
Thanks for sharing Peter, indeed looks like a nice day there. 40s and rain this morning in central NH. Bees into pollen 4 days ago, no flying today. I will inspect Wednesday when temps are supposed to get into the 60s. Take care
I think they are getting ready to go to hi gear . Looking good. You were talking about getting ready to do splits soon on a walk away what is a good guess after you do your split how long should it take the queen to start laying after everything?? . Thanks for all your information.
No I do not do walk away splits. I don't believe you get the best queens by forcing them make emergency supercedure cells. I ad mated queens to the split that does not have the original queen.
Thanks for the video. You knew what to look for. I would like to make two suggestions which has nothing to do with you hive management. One: please stop banging your equipment like you do. It will irritate your bees. Secondly: please clean up and put the trash or comb that you scrape in a bucket or something. You just seemed to dump it wherever
While I agree not banging is better it is sometimes expedient to get through the number of hives I need to. As for cleaning up I usually have a box for scraps with me but when I don't I usually go round afterwards pickup up the scraps, useful and less tempting for critters.
Ha ha, your videos are excellent!!
It’s important to regionalize our methods as you are 👍
Absolutely! Thank you sir!
Ha Peter I enjoyed your video Hope u have a wonderful day
Thanks, you too!

Hi Peter. Would you consider equalizing some of those colonies with the smaller ones?
Certainly, equalizing is a great basic strategy, this just takes it to another level.
so are you feeding 1:1 sugar or 2:1 sugar at this time of year? Thanks for the video and response...
In Spring it is at the lower end or 1 : 1 or in this case more like 1.2 : 1

Oustanding information!!
What ratio sugar/water are you using?
In the Spring 1:1 is the norm but I use 1.2 :1 approx
If you had found mites in that drone comb would you treat at this point?
Not yet, that is not a quantitative sampling method but it would be the heads up to do more accurate sampling.
In my neck of the woods, trash flung on the ground would attract fire ants in south Texas
In any yard in any location it is best to clean up afterwards or better still bring something to put it in to start with.
First!
