Just binged your Jinjer journey all at once. Check out "Cloud Factory official live video", "Scissors", "Who Is Gonna Be The One live", "Outlander" and "Sit, Stay, Rollover live in Melbourne"
Jinjer is great live. (One can not say that about a lot of bands) I think you would like "Who is Gonna be the One" (Live, Napalm Records) and "Words of Wisdom" (Live Napalm Records). I also suggest to react to "I speak Astronomy" (OMV) and "I speak Astronomy" live at Summer Breeze as a double reaction.
Lots of Jinjer songs grow on you over time. This one did for me. It's a top-20, maybe top-10 Jinjer song for me now, but it didn't do much for me at first. Like you, I'm an old-school metalhead. Jinjer totally drew me in, & they've helped my musical taste to grow *a lot*. You might want to extend them some patience - they reward patience. I'm looking forward to your Home Back reaction. That song is also a grower, at least for me.
'Sit Stay Roll Over' the official music video, would be a good for you, it's the track that got them noticed by Napalm Records. Vlad the Drummer is actually a classically trained pianist who taught himself the drums, the 'Pieces' video that you reacted to was made to introduce Vlad to the fans, as their old drummer had to leave the band.
Yes, that's Eugene on bass. He's been with them since 2011, the year after Tati and Roman joined. Vlad , on drums, is the most recent addition in 2016. I think you're right about the jazz background, I know he is classically trained on piano. After you check out the older stuff you want to, try Vortex from the newest album, Wallflowers (2021). You might also like a band called Spiritbox- Circle With Me or Rule of Nines.
As for the drummer, the drummer is actually a pianist and drums are his third instrument and he hasn't actually been a drummer for very long, comparatively
One thing they do a lot of are drum, guitar and bass playthroughs as well as one vocal one take video (Judgement and Punishment). Watching those after the full song might be a good way to examine the way the song is played.
Vlad, the drummer, isn't a drummer. He's a classically trained pianist who taught himself the drums. He does play open hand, jazz style. They are technically metalcore, but there is so much prog perfectionism there it's hard to categorize them. Most of us old guys love them for the free form jazz tempos. Stay on 8 and you can keep the groove.
A good process may be doing double reactions like the official music video and the the live performance a suggestion would be Retrospection OMV and the live in Melbourne for one
Progressive acts like Jinjer don't just simply repeat themselves in their songs. Even in Pisces, you'll hear the drummer do something before the first chorus that he never repeats. He instead changes it for the second chorus, and then again for the final. The band is always changing a little something here and there throughout the song so that your ears are always catching something unique. It can be disconcerting at first, especially if you're like me and were expecting the usual wash-rinse-repeat of top 40 pop and metal
Yeah, the bass player is the same. Eugene went from big with short hair to big with dreadlocks to big with short hair again to honestly chiseled out of concrete with the man bun 😂
Jinjer's sound has been a constant evolution. They used to have two guitarists and were more progressive metalcore through their Cloud Factory album. The second guitarist Dmitry left and they went from drop C to drop A tuning. Their King of Everything album was their first with just Roman on guitar, but Eugene (bass) started writing bass parts to fill a double role as not only bass, but as the second guitar. He's said in interviews that he writes utilizing the whole register. King of Everything was generally heavier than their previous catalog. Coincidently every album has been progressively heavier. Vlad (drummer) joined after the King of Everything album was made. While his drumming is not only top tier, he's a multi-instrumentalist and came up with a lot of the guitar riffs / structures / rhythms on all albums since. They've always been progressive, but their djenty riffed - odd timed - progressive sound went into overdrive with his influence.
Starting your Jinjer journey with the early stuff would be fun, it will help ease you into the more progressive elements of the band and also it is fun to see the growth of the band. Great reaction and insight.
Jinjer is just outright talent - all of them, glad to see you appreciate that even though the music might not be 100% your taste. I think Sit, Stay, Roll Over is the song from Jinjer you need to hear. Ok, metalhead - I got one for ya Slaughter To Prevail - Demolisher
@@massivemetalreactions I am subscribed 💪 look forward to getting your perspective on STP, once I listened to a couple songs I was hooked, same with Jinjer. I haven't really liked a "newer" band since some of my guilty pleasure numetal bands. I haven't found bands I enjoy out of this new era, so I still crank the old thrash/groove stuff I love and of course Maiden!
There are a number of Jinjer songs wher you can react to two versions for a double feature. Scissors official and Beastarium recording session video being a good one to start out with ca 2012.
Who's the most talented? Like you said there's no real answer. But Vlad is the most (multi) talented when it comes to musical skills. He has solid classical music background as a pianist. He originally played guitar in some band but decided to learn drums (self-taught) when they needed one. And we all are glad he chose to do so. What a legend he's slowly but surely becoming. And on top of that he can compose mean piece of music. Their latest album Wallflowers is mostly his handiwork. And what comes to so called typical reaction format - especially when it comes to bands such as Jinjer which require quite different approach to it. There are lot of Jinjer songs which haven't immediately clicked with me - but now they are among my favorites. I'd love that more people would record their initial reaction (whatever it might be) but later on after few more revisits or during editing phase they could record some additional updates if their opinions have changed. Edited into same video or released just as a short update video later on. I know that requires more work and dedication but it would seem less mechanic and give less "conveyor belt" vibes.
After you said, you have to listen to jinjer songs more often, to hear every aspect of them, i got an idea. How about, doing your First time reaction on cam, then listen to the song of cam, as often as you need to and then give your final thoughts about the song? Especialy for songs like i speak astronomy, sit stay roll over and Mediator it would make sense, i guess.
Early Jinjer is right in the pocket of that late 00s early 10s metalcore. They do a few odd things here and there, but it's still pretty much in that lane. I think their first album is hard to go back to because of the recording quality. It sounds like it came out of a garage because it probably came out of a garage. The Madrid live show from I think 2017 that's on Napalm's channel is probably the best place to listen to the song Scissors, for example, because they apparently have a mix wizard following them around for these live recordings and it is thus mixed better than the studio version. (None of which had layered harmonies or anything that's harder to reproduce live.) It's kinda hard to find newer shows where they have enough time to sneak in older songs, so that's also a good one for live versions of a couple other songs from before their more progressive turn that they don't play much now.
If I had to pick one person who I thought was better than the others it would be Tatiana, she writes the lyrics for the band and makes them fit in with what she’s given by the others. Without her where would they be? In another band probably…….. If you’re interested Elizabeth Zaroff (Charismatic voice) interviewed Tatiana in depth a while ago, definitely worth watching!
It's hard to pick better artist among few great artists, especially if they use different instruments and vocal. But if we'd choose key person of the band, the one who brings success to the band, it'd be Tatiana of course. And it's not only my opinion - it's the opinion of the band members. Once Vlad and Eugene was asked something like: - Did you always know that you become world famous rock star someday? They answered: - Noway. We always knew that we'd never become a rock stars. And we aren't a rock stars actually. Tatiana is the only rock star among us. And of course without Tatiana we'd never become famous. But Tatiana'd become famous with any other band.
Want some old metal? Try Accept - "Fast As A Shark" (pretty fast), "Metal Heart" (classical tunes), "Neon Nights" (how low and distorted can strings sound?), "Princess Of The Dawn" (just good). Important note: Listen to the old album recordings, not the re-records!
Just wondering when you are going to open up the rabbithole of the Japanese metalband LOVEBITES. Talk about old school referenses in a new form! For a Thrasher.... Open it with -BREAK THE WALL, Live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020. Just saying..... Much Love to you and Ukraine 🌻🌻🌻💙💛💙
When I saw them live, the first two bands were typical metal, a lot of thrashing about with no rhythm, melody or purpose. Then Jinjer came out and blew me away with talent, chemistry, and change of styles.
Jinjer is absolutely phenomenal!!!!!
Just binged your Jinjer journey all at once. Check out "Cloud Factory official live video", "Scissors", "Who Is Gonna Be The One live", "Outlander" and "Sit, Stay, Rollover live in Melbourne"
Excellent suggestions!
On the list! Thanks. Did Scissors. Check it out.
Seeing them tomorrow all equally gods.
Outlander is my favorite from their early catalog
On the list! Thanks
Listen to Sit Stay Rollover and you'll see just how easy it is to do a mosh pit to Jinjer.
On the list! Thanks

Their best recorded live performance IMO.
Vlad, the drummer, isn't a drummer. He's a classically trained pianist who taught himself the drums. He does play open hand, jazz style.
