I’ve basically the same schedule as yours now for years. Walking into a clean kitchen during the evening activities, after dinner, just feels so good. The one thing lately that’s been included in my schedule is to clean while cooking. So much less to do after dinner and so easy!

Another activity that really helps keep morning chaos down has to do with my kids’ school wardrobe. Each fall I go through each child’s wardrobe one at a time. They try on everything and we get rid of all those pants that got 4 inches too short over the summer. We decide what new clothes they need for school. Then the kids decide what outfits they like together. Throughout the year, as I do laundry, I put those outfits on a single hanger. In the morning, the kids pick which hanger they want and hopefully put the hanger in the laundry so I can refill them. This way they get to wear outfits they like and no discarded shirts or pants end up on the floor. At the end of the day they got undressed into the laundry basket on their way to their bedroom to get their pjs on.

Widowed retired senior and alone, I save my dishes in the dishwasher (brush rinsed before loading) and wash once a week not overnight or when I am away. I do brush rinse my largest pot or bowl with hot soapy water. After wiping surfaces with the clean water I add anything grungy to soak. My laundry is usually washed during the day, when my basket is full. My evenings vary, chats, mindless tv program/movie, card games with friends until 8:30, I have a cd of instrumental classical music on low volume (subliminal) that shuts off automatically when it reaches the end ... I very seldom hear beyond the first couple of pieces.

My routine is very similar to yours, except I do not soak my pots and pans until after dinner when leftovers are packed away. I do start my dishwasher about an hour before bed when I do my house walk through, tidy and lock up. I'm a reader, so aside from that evening routine, I curl up with a good book and a glass of wine in the evening.

We had a dishwasher short out and start catching fire. Fortunately we were there to unplug it. Ever since then, I refuse to run appliances when I’m not around. But the dishwasher is quiet and we can watch a movie or play D&D while it goes after 8:00. Just be around. Don’t wait until everyone is in bed.

I like to go out on the balcony just before bed and just listen to the sounds of nature, cars, people etc. Just wind down and clear my head of all the thoughts and stress that has gathered during the day.
I also regularly put my blanket and pillow outside to hang for a few hours, so they get a fresh smell and it also helps get rid of dust and other impurities.

As someone who really struggles to get to sleep on time: kid's settled, prep for tomorrow and tidy, make tea, massage chair/epsom salt bath (w/jets), old episodes of the late late show w/Craig Ferguson, staggered meds and enjoy the tea and massage, load any stray dishes and run dishwasher, last meds (chronic illness so lots of meds) and then in bed. I also use a heating pad to prewarm my bed and another by my feet to keep me warm all night. So far it's working 80% 😆

I could never go to bed, or leave my house, with the dishwasher, washing machine or tumble dryer on. There could be an electrical fault & I wouldn’t want to risk that.
Also, I live in a semi-detached house & the noise would disturb my neighbour & I wouldn’t want that.
I work in the late afternoons/evenings & am too shattered (tired) to tidy up & clean afterwards, so I do this before I go to work.
I like to come home in the evening to a clean & tidy kitchen & lounge.

I stop using cafeine (coffee, black/green tea, energy drinks, cola etc) after 12.00. At18.00 my ipad and phone goes to night mode. At 20-21 I eat snack that includes carbs and protein. Hour before going to sleep I drink relaxing herbal infusion and do last of my evening routine. I go to bed and read 30-60minutes before I’m going to sleep.
I have sleeping problem. That is why my preparations for good quality sleep starts at noon. If I drink something cafeine drinks in the afternoon it will delay my natural tiredness by hours.

I use the dishwasher in the early morning about 2-4am on a timer cycle because that time it will be using the excess energy from a battery that was charged by daylight (from the day before). I don’t leave my place with anything turned on when I am away. That’s just me. I also prewash my dishes. I have an older dishwasher so I feel like I need to be home. Also, I was in the medical field before I got sick and I worked nights. That’s a hard habit to break. I get up during the day if I need to. But I sleep from about seven until 1. I like your blanket. I am up at night. I cook or bake or clean. So yeah, I am upside down. I baked cupcakes for my grandson at 2am. I live in a condo on the first floor. I hear the guy upstairs but I am up anyway. He works during the day so I sleep then. The walls that connect side to side are concrete so we never hear each other. There are very few children here. My building is all adults. Some of which are snow birds. 6 months here 6 months elsewhere. A lot of people from Canada. Not much noise. But, I do have a routine before I go to sleep. Same as others just 12 hours later. Thanks for the video and the commentary. Stay warm. When I am leaving this comment I see it’s 15 degrees there. It’s in the 50’s and rainy here. Very chilly for Florida. There is really cold weather everywhere now. So, to everyone be safe and stay warm.😊

I run the dishwasher as I go, rather I’m home or not. With newer machines with all the electronic components they put in them I would advise that someone stays home when it runs, fires are more likely to happen from those computer filled appliances and there have been many cases of control panels catching on fire during a cycle. You would never think of it.

I try to have a tidy kitchen and living room before I go to bed but I'm not the last one up so I rarely wake up to it in the same condition as I left it. I do like having lunches and water bottles set out at the end of the night so I can easily get them ready in the morning.

As I am making dinner or prepping food anytime of the day ,I wash dishes by hand as I go ..then they can dry as we eat .

I'll do dishwasher before bed, until we get into the winter deep freeze we've had this week., then I'll try to remember to do it before bed, then it can dry overnight. The one thing I CANNOT forget to do for the evening is set the coffee maker. If the first thing I see in the morning is an empty water reservoir, it's a bad day

I love running my dishwasher and laundry at night. I run the dishwasher at night but delay my laundry to run around 4am and it’s done by 5am and through it in the dryer when I’m up 5am ish.

I like running the dishwasher at night. As you said, the water rate is lower and emptying the dishwasher in the morning sets you up for a new day.

I usually run my dishwasher late in the evening. I will set the timer to run around 9 or 10. Also, I read to wind down. Sometimes, I will add a cup of decaf coffee or decaf hot tea.

I generally run it when it's full. But I have started to running it every night to every other night even if it's not completely full.
And I like to read a bit before bed😊

I'd love to have a routine of doing everything either in the morning or at night. However I don't have kids so it makes more sense to run my dishwasher when I have a full load, or laundry the same. If I'm already cleaning it makes more sense to just do it right as I see it needs to be done, since it's not every day

I ALWAYS run my dishwasher over night.. it's cheaper in the summer and keeps the water from freezing during the winter - our dishwasher is pretty quiet and at the other end of the house so we don't hear it at all. Well worth it!!

Out west here in Seattle the local electric company PSE does not have a reduced rate time. In Pennsylvania where I lived before this for 50 years they did have a reduced rate time. I miss having a reduced rate time a lot.

I always run things at night, or right before I'm about to leave, with the exception of using the washer. I don't like wet clothes to sit too long.

As someone who has to redo a portion of my kitchen because my dishwasher leaked, I will probably never again run it while sleeping. I’ll probably run it late in the evening but make sure it’s done before going to bed.

Having just had a water damage restoration from a failed water hose on the dishwasher, that I caught “fairly” quickly because I ended up staying up late that night, I don’t recommend running the dishwasher or washing machine overnight. If I hadn’t discovered this until the next morning, we would have had a lot of damaged furniture. As it is, we had so much damage to our kitchen, and because our flooring was connected throughout a huge area of our home, we have just gotten our home back after 8 months. You think, just flooring, but because water from the dishwasher involves food, they had to remove cabinets, which involved removing countertops, which then have to be replaced, etc., water went under flooring, so that had to go, and carpet in the living room on the back side of the kitchen.

My normal evening routine consists of, cooking dinner. Anything that needs to be soaked gets soaked whilst I am eating dinner. After dinner, anything that needs washing up by hand, I do, the rest goes in the dishwasher. I always wipe down my counter tops and cooker, any rubbish bins that need emptying are done. Then it's shower and relax time for a couple of hours. Right before bed, last tidy in lounge, put any remaining mugs, plates etc from that evening cup of tea and any snacks I may have had in the dishwasher. That runs while I sleep. Check lounge and kitchen tidy, then it's half an hour or so on my kindle and sleep

This is great Melissa. However, my normal week day is getting home anywhere between 7pm-10pm and by the time I make dinner for the guys....I'm exhausted most nights. I may try laying out my clothing on the weekends for each day of the week, that might work. Cleaning at night; that's my challenge! How long should I allow for a quick cleanup? I may have to consider this a scheduled routine for myself. Wind down? Let my husband turn on a movie, turn out the lights, and I'm gone. 😴

Every time I worked the night shift, I'd set the washing machine and the dishwasher to start very early in the morning so it's done by the time I woke up. I currently don't work night shift but the habit still stuck. You get a head start on your chores and don't have to deal with noise ordinances or the wet laundry getting musty.

My routine is very similar to yours. However in our country, a middle class family can afford to have a house help to do jobs like sweeping, mopping, the dishes, cooking, etc. So the only thing i leave aside is the dishes, because thats the thing the maid will do when she comes over the next day. I loveeeeeeeeee the blanket. Where is it from?

Turn off the lights after locking up, hit my recliner, turn on my Kindle with its light on 8 or 9, and read. I never know how long it takes but I sink into the chair, relax my muscles by groups until I am totally relaxed, and enjoy a nice calm fiction. But then again I am retired so I am not rushed to get up.
