There are two top plates on the top and one Sole plate on the bottom. When a wall runs parallel to the joists above you must add one piece of lumber wider than the wall to catch the drywall ceiling.

I assume If you got 10’ ceilings you would use 20’ instead of 16 is that correct
Wouldn’t you multiply length of wall by 4 since there are 3- 2x4 on top of the wall and 1-2x4 on the bottom?
