The best way to describe the love triangle in the war of the ancients trilogy. Illidan: i love tyrande!Tyrande: no i love malfurion! Malfurion: do i love her? She loves me? I dont know i just like trees!
part 2; Illidan; MARRY ME TYRANDE! Tyrande; I cant.... Illidan; Why?! Tyrande; I....I don't love you... Malfurion; whoopsieee Illidan;/rides off Tyrandeeeeeeee
Or... Maiev loves/hates Illidan...she hasn't decided yet, perhaps she's mad at him for running after Tyrande like a sick puppy, after she let him rot in prison for 10K year. "Hell hath no fury, than a woman scorned!" Illidan loves Tyrande no matter what. Tyrande loves Malfurion. Malfurion loves himself...and the trees of cource....damned hippy!!!
When it comes to Illidan... Well the old saying "Good intentions, poor execution" fits perfectly in. He never meant to be a bad guy, in fact he did everything he could to be the total opposite, but his thirst for power (to be used against the Legion) did pretty much go against the laws bullshittery from night elves, and may have made a a bit reckless... But still, in the end, all he wanted to do was save the world from the Legion, which does take some risky risks.
He still like, made a well of eternity which was the reason of their first war with the burning legion, and then indirectly became the way archimonde almost won in Warcraft 3. Illidan almost ended the world TWICE with his betrayal against malfurion + making a new well. He deserved all the hate he got. Malfurion was right
@@brandoxic8354 Erhm plenty but your point is true. Yet... we do not praise these lore characters most of the time as "THEY DID NOTHING WRONG!!!". Illidan is the black sheep of just people completely ignoring what the hell he did. And why malfurion hates him in the first place
"Hero"... He was a degenerate shit. Using what he knew was wrong to gain more power. Good riddance. He IS a monster. All because he was envious of his brother and wound up getting cucked out of who he loved because of it. So he turned to demons to try and look good for her..
I know what you mean. The thing about Illidan is that he was an opportunist. He did what everyone expected him to do and did want to fight against the burning legion, but he nevertheless took any chances he could to gain a reputation and profit from his efforts. Honestly, even if it is easy to disagree with, it is very relatable.
Now I've said this before, but I'm of the opinion that Illidan wasn't evil (at least until he was considered insane after his defeat at Icecrown), but the misunderstood antihero who used his dark talents and powers for good and just had the short end of the stick at every turn. But regardless of his overall alignment, you have to admit that for a character who commanded so much respect for his "badassery", he had some pretty bad story writing. You would think that with all the admiration from the fans and opinions of him being one of the best characters in the Warcraft universe that he'd live up to this role in the story, and all we get basically was a Night Elf who had unrequited love, imprisonment and banishment for making sacrifices towards the greater good, failure to accomplish his noble goal of defeating the Lich King and death at the hands of his traitors, hunter, and a bunch of adventurers looking to get some phat loot. I don't care whether he was a good guy or a bad guy, I just wish he had much better writing than being portrayed as Blizzard's redheaded stepchild. Cuz I mean come on, most of us WC fans love him, at least give him some proper respect. I'll just keep hoping they bring him back with a good redemption story.
That was very well said and i feel the same way The fact is that Maiev wen't crazy and chased him into Outland for no reson even though she was too weak to fight him alone so she had to get a bunch of greedy adventurers to help her I like that in the end Illidan still got the last laugh
Yeah, I can't see a bad thing he did which was in any way worthy of the punishments he was given. It all struck me as 'HE LOOKS DIFFERENT NOW! LOCK HIM AWAY!' etc.
I highly agree with you. Even when he did try everything for the greater good, even '"selling his soul for power" as Malfurion says. But to me, Illidan was the kind of person who was isolated from the group and branded as 'the outcast' just because he was different, y'know, like how kids in school treat unpopular kids. But deep down, he truly did care for his people, and he did try everything in his power to save them, even in his own way. But because of propaganda and prejudicial views his brother influenced, he was instead imprisoned, neglected, and unrecognized. Because of how we was treated, I don't blame him for going mad.
***** And that is exactly what makes him and his story the best out there in my opinion. Good and Bad, Night Elf and Demon, Love and Hatred, he has done more good than bad if it wasn't for Kil'Jaeden. Not everything has a happy ending, it ain't Disney after all...
The Future ProductionZ True, but the whole idea is that Illidan is one of the most iconic characters of Warcraft lore, and widely considered by many fans to be a complete badass. I just think that given that reputation he deserved better writing than just coming up short in almost every circumstance. I could accept a sad ending for him if something good for him came out of it, like if he died a martyr for something rather than a hunted beast.
Illidan is the guy that gave everything to be a hero, to his people, and specially to Tyrande and gets rejected and shunned every time despite having done so much. Without him the world would of fallen, he saved his people twice during the war of the ancients and during Warcraft 3 and both times he is rejected despite of it all. The night elves own their immortality and prosperity within Tendrassil to Illidan Stormrage. The woman he loves calls him a monster and taunts him and tells him she was wrong for having set him free AFTER he saved the world.
+codegeass7162 He's the archetype for "Why being the nice guy doesn't pay off." Then again, he is an anti-hero in multiple respects one of which is overlooking the potential dangers of his plans for the rewards ergo shattering Northrend and murdering all its inhabitants to destroy the Frozen Throne. Or trying to be a double-agent in the hopes of foiling their plans with the consequence that he was turned into a (half-)demon and the risk of being consumed by Sargeras to be another of his minions.
+黒の死神黒 Considering most thing up in Northrend are already undead it wouldn't matter too much. Also, it was a guaranteed plan of succeeding considering how much undead are up there. So the real question was to take the sacrifice of killing all the thing in Northrend in order to save the rest of the world, or simply not take the lost, and risk failing, and in turn having the rest of the world consume by the scourge. Illidan had the right idea... Another thing people keep failing to realize is that the only reason why the forsaken (Salvannas included) was able to be set free was, becuase of Illidan. Also, the only reason the scourge was stopped in it's track from spreading any further than Northrend, and Lorderon was because of Illidan. If Illidan would have never cracked Ice Crown Azeroth would of succumbed to the scourge long before Wrath of the Lich King.
+codegeass7162 Illidan saved Azeroth 4 time! (Read my reply to +黒の死神黒 to get an idea on the 4th time.) How did everyone thanked him? Killed him in outland for really no reason when all he was doing was building his force to fight the Legion.
+igot2remember That and cause blizzard made him go "mad" for no reason and no explanation, they just he is so crazy so we must kill him just so they could make a raid boss out of him ;///
Nice work man. Illidan is one of those characters who always sticks with you. I remember when I first saw him back in W3 and got to play with him, I never wanted to play another character ever again. Such a cool badass character who in my opinion is sorely misunderstood. Though his search for power and knowledge led him to dark places, his intentions were always good, and he understood that in order to save everyone, a few sacrifices had to be made. Not that he wanted to kill Maiev or Thrall, but in order to rid the world of Lich King, he made an alliance with someone he shouldn't have had. He paid for it all in the end and in my opinion he does deserve a redemption, but I prefer the story stays the way it is. So complex and so amazing.
"Illidan Stormrage, for recklessly endangering countless lives and threatening the very balance of the world, I hereby sentence you to death" maiev shadowsong. what about Malfurion Stormrage and his storm that almost killed both the invaders of the burning legion and the night elf's ?
OK I've watched this video several times now and I don't get why Illidian was considered evil enough for us to kill him. On the contrary it seems like he damned his own soul to save azeroth. He seems to have made some questionable life choices and has weird sexual tastes, but probably less so than most politicians. Am I missing something?
Archvaldor's Warcraft Hacks Well as i've always seen it, Illidan demise was a result of Maiev vengeance and Akama's misconception of what Illidan real purpose was, he was not freeing his broken and cleaning his house to give it back for the Broken draenei, he needed Black Temple to establish an army an gather massive forces(gathered by any means) to battle the Legion(once they come knocking the door). One thing people often forgets is that there is just a little bunch of character in the entire lore that knows the Legion as much as him, he knows the scale of that threat while others can only imagine.
Pablo Naranjo Thanks for that fascinating, long and detailed response. Would make a fascinating video in its own right. The way you put it, he actually sounds much like Wrathion.
Archvaldor's Warcraft Hacks Actually blizzard accepted that they screwd it up by killing illidan. In short, Illidan wanted to conquer the entirety of Outlands to form an army of demons and fel orcs to fend off the legion. So he had to conquer Shattrath and the remainder of the Dranenei, as well as Honorhold and Thrallmar, so in an act of defense we had to siege the Blacktemple and kill Illidan.
The warlock Green fire quest already suggests that. Even though Iillidan is presumed dead, the demons that are not legion demons [purified in the black temple ] and loyal to illidan, still exist and are active, suggesting he is alive, no more spoilers buy the quest item and do the quest.
.Ever since the beginning Illidan has always been good. Though most of his acts, have a part of his own personal gain and the heroic act. 1. Obtaining the artifact called Demon Soul was actually was his intention to use it and close the demonic portal… Personal Gain: To impress Tyrande and to make her chose him over his brother Heroic Act: To close the portal and end the war so the demons will stop entering Azeroth. Though he did not succeeded but at least it was a part of his good intention. 2. Creating the 2nd Well of Eternity… Personal Gain: To satisfy his hunger for magic and power Heroic Act: To use it in case the Burning Legion will return, and newsflash for anyone who didn’t realize this, he was RIGHT all along the Legion did return. And also without the new Well of Eternity he had created, of course, the World Tree would not been created which has given the Night Elves immortality. None of them would have lived long enough to defend the planet Azeroth from the Legion's return. 3. Claiming the Skull of Gul'dan… Personal Gain: To become more powerful than ever Heroic Act: To use its new powers against the demons and undead, and against their leader, Tichondrius. Also the fact that, the skull itself was corrupting the forests so, by consuming the energies of the skull, he also stops the skull's corruption to the forests. Illidan only had to do what he had. 4. Slay Tichondrius, the most intelligent, most powerful and the leader of the Dreadlords This is a pure Heroic Act: Because this time he did not have any personal gain in killing Tichondrius. Tichondrius is the Chief Infiltration Specialist, and Legion’s Intelligence, obviously next to Kil’Jaeden and Archimonde, Tichondrius was the best asset the Burning Legion has. 5. Saving Tyrande’s life from the Undead Scourge armies… This is another act of pure Heroism of Illidan: Despite everything his fellow Night Elves had done to him, he still showed love to Tyrande though he had already accept the fact that Tyrande chose his brother over him but still his feelings for her still remained and promised her whatever he may become that he will always look out for Tyrande. And there is definitely nothing wrong about that, right? Using his own naga armies, they fought and destroyed multiple undead bases, including the Shadowglen forest trolls just to save Tyrande and return her to Furion safely, despite the deadly risk of, by saving Tyrande he had betrayed his new boss, Kil'Jaeden. 6. Lord of Outland… This one has 3 intentions of him 1st. To protect himself from Kil'Jaeden's wrath by failing to destroy the Lich King...Well, he had to defend himself... after-all he only obeys Kil'Jaeden conditionally, only because of the deal they made, but it is no doubt that Illidan and the Burning Legion ARE STILL ENEMIES. 2nd. Heroic Act: By doing this, he didn't just protect himself; he also was actually saving the last remnants of the Draenei from Magtheridon's lordship. For we all know that Magtheridon (Another powerful Lord of the Burning Legion) commands his demons and fel orcs to hunt down the Draenei to extinction. And if ever, no one had realized this, by Illidan invading Outland, it also goes to show that the Burning Legion has not only been defeated and battered in Azeroth but also in Draenor/Outland. 3rd: Personal Gain: Since he had to conquer and defeat Magtheridon, he had some interests as well... since he has no more place in the planet of Azeroth he had to move and find a new kingdom, besides Illidan said it himself that he has no interest in ruling Azeroth. Well, in Akama's part, he didn't like Illidan ruling the black temple as well as Magtheridon but at least Illidan is a better ruler than Magtheridon. At least under Illidan's rule the demons and fel orcs would no longer have to kill the Draenei to extinction. 7. Destroying the Frozen Throne… Personal Gain: He is doing it for the reward of great magic and power promised to him by Kil'Jaeden Heroic Act: He was not only doing it for the power but he is also doing it to destroy the Undead Scourge completely in which by doing it so, he is doing it for vengeance and a huge favor for all the mortal races. For we all know, just like their demon creators of the Burning Legion, the Undead Scourge is also the enemy of all living races that includes the neutral races, the horde, the alliance and even his fellow night elven brethren and sisters. Though he did not succeeded in it, at least it was still a part of his good missions.
@e- w- Go play warcraft 3 all over again, will you? Illidan SAVED tyrande from the undead armies and willingly returned her to his own brother. After which he even INITIATED to have peace with his own brother. AND seriously tyrande nearly dying from the undead, how is that even Illidan's fault? All along illidan was minding his own business, you know, trying to destroy the Lich King and the Scourge, THE EVIL UNDEAD basically. Meanwhile it was them who kept following illidan to lordaeron with MAIEV EVEN LYING TO MALFURION about tyrande. Sooo.... illidan's fault??? Go play warcraft 3 again and understand the story as it is, will you?
Illidan is in my Top 10, but even I can say he's made some VERY questionable decisions. And some just straight up bad decisions. But that's why I appreciate him
It's such a shame that Illidan's lore wasn't really represented very well in BC, he was in the cinematic, and then you just sort of kill him later in Black Temple.
Lidiot Lee eh, no, they did the lich king pretty fuckin' well. At least in wrath you KNEW the lich king was coming if you didn't read the quest text, besides the obvious "wrath of the LICH KING", he showed up several times and you could feel his effects everywhere in northrend.
Lidiot Lee WoD isn't that bad and Lich Kind was decent. Cata was Meh in terms of ending the guy we knew would return. Panda, that should have been used as a catalyst to end the war once and for all, but it was also a catalyst for WoD.
I think Illidan will return in the inevitable Return of the Burning Legion expansion. This time he will be on our side and train a new generation of Demon Hunters, WoW's second hero class, to help the Alliance and the Horde in the battle against the Legion.
+Prince Stormstrider I'm not a prophet, but I know players have wanted Illidan to return and a Demon Hunter class for some time. And with Wrathion's warning about the Legion's return that would be the perfect time to do it. I guess I was right.

@@stormstrider1990 holy fuck berries were you ever. A mole in the blizzard team, or someone who really knows whats going on?
Wow this made me hate malfurion lol Illidan got screwed he deserved better I would love to see illidan get a redemption story now cause he isn't really a bad guy he just played the hand fate felt him
You miss out on all but one of the points, where he risks everything to save his people, and is condemned for it, again and again. His attempt at creating a second Well of Eternity. Was never meant to be used to summon demons, only to restore to his people what they had lost. The converted high born that found him doing this, thought he was trying to summon he demons again. And so they attacked him on sight. He killed them in self-defense. And when his brother.... His naive, self-righteous and stuck up brother found him. He condemened him to 10 000 years in a completely inhumane prison. With a zealous, almost certainly partly insane warden, that tortured him from time to time(there is evidence of this in wc3). And his act of creating this(laying the groundwork for the tree of life), is the only reason they were able to stop the invasion of the legion when Archimonde came. Aswell as the reason they retained their immortality. The way Xavius influenced Illidan, was quite similar to how the Lich King whispered to Arthas. Both asasulted by this attempt at manipulation and partial mind control in their moment of weakness, as their lives and dreams were being shattered, and then being offered a way out. Yes, Illidan no doubt eventually became twisted. 10 000 years, in wrongful imprisonment(at least partially wrongful), a life of being hunted, being condemned for the very things he did that saved his people and often cost him greatly(For example once he came to his senses, he used his situation to turn on Sargeras and try to save the world), and lets not forget the influence of the fel energies he had to control, can do that to you. Especially when the ones you thought of as family, are the ones that ones that sentence you(anyone reminded of Game of Thrones? Tyrion anyone?). Everything Illidan ever believed in was shattered for him, again and again. His feelings for his brother and Tyrande: Ruined in one of the most extreme ways imaginable. His master(Rhonin) that scolds him for failing during extreme circumstances, just after he was rejected by Tyrande(While I think Rhonin can be forgiven here, as he did not know about the circumstances. It doesn't lessen how shitty his treatment of him was). His belief and trust in his people, completely voided by how they rejected him for studying the arcane, imprisoned and condemned him after he helped them(in spite of how horribly they had all treated him). And finally hunted him all across the world, and even into another(He doesn't know that Maiev was alone in this decision). Illidan took a lot of crap, but in the end he still chose to save his people twice over, even after how they rewarded him the first time. And even after that, he did not seek vengeance, only solitude and safety. Following what is not pure misconception and having read through all could find out about Illidan, keeping it as close to cannon as possible(especially considering the story blizzard put out on their own website so many years ago), I have to say that I see Illidan as the most mistreated character in all of warcraft lore. Sure he was not perfect anyone can see that, but it did not warrant the insane treatment he had to put up with. And his flaws were quite certainly caused by the extreme treatment he recieved. When you've read it all, and rewatch that cinematic again. You really do agree with, and understand his words: "Betrayer... In truth, it was I who was betrayed..." (I don't just mean how Tyrande first rejected him, or how disdainful Malfurion was of his arcane practices ). His original "Betrayal", is like calling Arthas "the traitor prince". Even worse, as he eventually broke completely free of his(partial) mind control and the shrouds of manipulation, even going so far as to use his situation to his peoples advantage. No, I am talking about how he did not betray, nor intend to betray the Night Elves when he created the 2nd Well of Eternity. In the end, his supposed original "Betrayal", even workd to their advantage. The only reason that plan partially failed, was because of the Old Gods interference. But... No, the true betrayal, was when Illidans help was rewarded with cruel imprisonment, without any actual trial. And how when he in action redeemed himself, was first banished for his new state of being(nothing he had actually done to anyone), and then hunted. As the decision to leave him be, for services rendered was revoked without warning.
Illidan was done so wrongly.thajkfully I never liked much the night elves, back in warcraft 3 I found their campaing to be a pain in the ass. Miev part not much since she looked cool, and in wow I rarely made a night elves, and when I did I never liked malfunction and tyroides.their cutscenes didn't stir much in me compared to the other heroes. And I liked the blood elves more.
If I worked for WoW the next (if not the final big expansion for WoW) would be something like this... There are no longer "Alliance" or "Horde" but those that ally with Illidan and his agenda, or those that ally with Furion and his agenda. In a great and final war. Illidan and his heroes venture into the emerald dream to take the fight to his brother. Furion and his heroes venture into the twisting nether and take the fight to Illidan. Then toss the burning legion and Mr. bad-ass big Kill J himself into the mix. Also finally solve the questions regarding the old gods and shadow priest lore. TLDR , Illidan+Furion+Burning Legion+Emerald Dream+TwistingNether+Void+Oldgods and WoW could end with something glorious. Thumbs up if you agree. Fans need this!
I have watched this video about 12 times now, and I never get bored of it. Amazing, simply AMAZING work, Nobbel. I like a lot of youtubers, some even more than this channel. Nevertheless, you will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I wouldn't trade your compelling retelling of these stories for any other. I really, really love your work!
+jaharned1 Haha, yeah. Just talking to all the comments from years past. :P I'm real glad he's back too and also glad that they didn't do it in a way like they did with Gul'dan.
"And let's make him the only real thing that comes out of the expansion... Woo!" Tbh, Draenor was beautiful but if we had never gotten in the first place, I wouldn't have complained.
+charliesees I loved it right up until 6.2. Demons don't just destroy worlds, they also seem to destroy quality of content if they aren't a fully declared part of the xpac.
Thanks a lot man, so happy that Illidan is back. I really do view him as a hero, despite his flaws, he saved and helped the world many times, and was only driven towards joining the Legion when his people would never appreciate his actions and he had nowhere else to turn.
It's lame how Tyrande and Furion are so ungrateful to Illidan. Basically he helps them and they are like "omg you noob, we jelly of your power, gtfo you banned". But I don't understand why did Illidan accept to serve Kil'Jaeden,
Mega Minx Good discussions here, may I join? May I ask, exactly how will Illidan bring doom to his people by being a Demon Hunter? If there is anything, being a demon hunter, or having a demon hunter around as an ally would be the absolute best thing ever if you are to go war against demons...
Mega Minx if you tke it backwards ilidan warned them that the deamons would come back, they saw, even if they refuse to admit it that his way worked. was it the good thing to do ?? no maybe not. was it the best course of action for the future absolutly. his action protected more than they destroyed, saved more that what would have been otherwise. he did what was necesary for the sake of all he loves. In my opinion it take a lot of guts to make the best possible choice. not the good one, even if it meens being banned afterward.
swan panelle Which is the same scenario when he claim the "Skull of Gul'dan" to, first, stop the corruption of forests in Felwood, because the skull ITSELF corrupts the forests... And second, to use his newfound power to lead an army, and destroy all the rest of the enemies around demons, satyrs, skeletons, giant spiders, and of course, TICHONDRIUS, the most powerful dreadlord who ever, and the very leader or king of the Nathrezim race..
Illidan for....night elf king thingy :P I love his lore and how he is totally displayed as a bad guy, even though he saved everyone, twice
10 років тому
He did it more than twice. And he want to do it much more times but he was prevented many times. I think he is still a good character just we doesnt undersand his reasons/plans why he collected the army.
One of your best lores so far (... who am I kidding, I love them all!)! Illidan has always been one of my favorites alongside of Arthas. And that brings me to my next question: will there ever be an epic story of Arthas just like this one? Pretty please? With chocolate on top?
In retrospective I have to say that its such a strange thing. Tyrande does something forbidden and there is no punishment - Illidan does and the whole race turns against him.
I am most disappointing in the direction they took Illidan. Up to the point of the Burning Crusade Illidan gave all of his effort to the greater good (protecting Azeroth and the Nightelves until they imprisoned him, and then for Azeroth and Tryande). Then in the Burning Crusade they painted him so heavily as a evil dictator.
Brett Allen because the players as heroes never seen him as a hero, all we knew was that he took over outland and had a crap ton of demons on the other side of the dark portal and considering only the burning legion and warlocks controlled demons at the time most believe illidan had joined the legion
Brett Allen Well play legion! The expansion not only lets you play a demon hunter and bring Illidin back, the conclusion of his character arc was awesome!
Hands down my favorite Warcraft character, I hated how they pretty much changed him from something of an antihero to more of a villain in TBC, I hope he is brought back at some point
Yeah, he gives the presentation a bit of spice. The intensity does get annoying after a while though lol. As interested as I was in the material, I had to stop watching because it started getting on my nerves. lol Still a good job... Just calm down on the dialect.
subscribed to this channel ages ago just waiting for you do do the Illidan story, and the wait was worth it. You did a great job with ne of the most complex story's in the game! Thanks for your videos, and all the work and effort you put into them.
This Video has just earned you a subscriber. I loved listing in on this, and know that i UNDERSTAND the history behind the demon hunters i can't wait for the new patch! Will be sure to leave a like, share this video to those that don't know this awesome story. Keep it up Nobbel87! I love your work!
The obviously huge amount of thought and effort put into the images accompanying this video just amazes me! First time I actually want to watch a lore video by someone, not just listen to it!
I'm a struggling voice actor in Texas, and I have to say, YOU sir, are destined for great things. this is my first time enjoying your channel, but I've been trying to teach myself what seems to come naturally to you. VERY well done.
Rufus Albarea That's exactly why I'm watching this, but I don't understand how Gul'dan releases him from the Tomb of Sargeras? Why was he there in the first place? Obviously this will be told in the coming expansion (I hope) though I wouldn't put it past Blizz to leave a huge plot hole..
I've been playing since 2007..... only now I realise how COOL was all the content back then! I surely will start paying more attention to the lore itself, thanks Nobbel!
"Whatever I may be--whatever I may become in this world--know that I will always look out for you, Tyrande." Blizz, bring back this is Illidan, not the nut job from BC
Illidan should definitely come back! Upon replaying BC I realize just how much his character got the axe in that expansion. I still enjoy BC, but the story was it`s weakest point. If you replace Illidan with Kil`jaeden then things start to make a lot more sense. In my own head canon I see the player characters eventually siding with Illidan against Kil`jaeden and the Legion in BC rather than fighting him for some nebulous reason.
Hey Nobbel, I´ve been following your lore vids a while. It is great that you take the time to gather all the huge and scattered lore form the warcraft universe and condense it into such an entretaining formant. Every time I have a discussion rearding lore from this awesome franchise I reffer my friends to your vids. Thanks a lot for your work and keep it up! Ps: greetings from Spain!
I think it is really kind by you to make such "detailed/containing" videos and learn people about the Warcraft lore you deserve more likes, viewers, subscribers and attention, well done!!! ;D /Thakiin
Malfurion pisses me off.... Illidan saves everyone time and time again, and all Malfurion cares about is killing him.. It makes me feel sad for Illidan. :(
Illidan's story makes me so sad, and I guess I fall right into the ones that think that he is a misunderstood hero, sure he seeked power, but wasn't that along or at least at the start for the sake of Tyrande and to find the great destiny that his people expected of him because of his eyes? I'm not sure how much destruction he would of created for Northrend "splitting" it and I'm sure he feared kil'jaeden but he was no coward and Tyrande was always in his head. I'm confused as to why he became mad, like is there no explanation? You simply said he went insane after his defeat against Arthas, but was he really that weak of a character? Someone who would spend 10000 years locked up and treated as monster by his brother, and would still help those that imprisoned him out of love, someone who could take being called a monster by someone he has devoted his life too and still love that person. I don't know, I just think he is incredible, for his end to be at the hands of some self righteous elf doesn't feel good at all, I failed to see the great crimes he committed, was trying to restore the well such terrible thing? (Here I'm questioning the motives of the huntress) Wasn't it thanks to Illidan (In part) that the night elfs got the tree that they now live in? Why did he have to meet such end, I wish if not for happy ending, one that gives him some honor, some redemption. Such an incredible character. I'm not a master of the lore but I love hearing about it, I'll definitely watch all your videos or most of them, thank you for making them.
I love how blatantly he put this, "Tyrande would be kidnapped, despite Malfurion turning Xavius into a tree." lol the way he says sounds like it's an everyday thing :P
Trevor Horne Yeah, they're great. A lot of people don't like Knaak due to his writing style, though. He's not good on explanations in the beginning and seems to make his characters overpowered. I disagree as most of his characters are average for the most part, they just have a sort of cliche to them early on to define their features. Though, that fades in time. Most people hold a grudge because they can't get past the first quarter of his books... And the entire series is no different. By the time you're on the middle of the 2nd book and everything has been explained and fleshed out, the story picks up tremendously. I wasn't able to put them down then and read straight to the end as soon as I could. You have a lot to look forward to, and trust me when I say things get EPIC. I wont spoil anything here, all I will say is that it's awesome. Though, spoilers for WoW, which is 10,000 years in the future so it doesn't really matter: At the current moment, Knaak's flagship characters in WoW or do nothing at all... Namely Tyrande, who does nothing for the story, Illidan was turned into a raid boss and is supposivly dead. Malfurion is leader of the Cenarion Circle and can't do anything because neutrality even though he's one of the most powerful characters on Azeroth. Though the worst one is that because the fanbase 'despised' Rhonin and Krasus they both went out the same way... They both litteraly turned into bombs and blew up. Krasus did first during WotLK, Twilight dragons invaded the Ruby Sanctum (Red dragon hatchery) and corrupted all the eggs. Rather than letting the corruption spread or containing it, he supper charged all his magic and turned himself into a living bomb that took out the entire Ruby Sanctum and then some. Rhonin was in Theramore during the mana bombing, made portals for everyone and shooed them out. He stayed behind and drew the mass of the mana bomb to himself, turning himself into a bomb and containing the damage of the mana bomb to Theramore. ... Yeah, for some reason even the developers hated them, they've wiped out all of Knaak's characters in WoW that were in War of the Ancients or had them go inactive.
This is the first lore video I've ever watched. I have to say that I am very impressed with the quality of the work you have put into this project. I was happily entertained and didn't even notice as the time slipped by. Well done, thank you!
i was never very patient to learn much about lore, but illidan was always my very favorite character in the game. seeing blizz giving us a glance of illidan returning, it was a pleasure to watch this nice video and to know more about his story. it makes the game so much more exciting and meaningful to actually know the lore behind it. subbed and watching all your videos now, also gonna go playing warcraft3
@@saopaolo1216 Tries to let Tyrande die by claiming she's already dead instead of going after her as she gets washed down river. All because she's really bad at her job. Yeah. She said Tyrande fell in combat to keep them chasing Illidan, when Tyrande was fine in combat but a bridge collapsed, she was injured, washed downstream and needed their help. That is the ultimate backstab. She treats everyone else like they owe her something- again, when its all her own fault that she cant keep track of Illidan. Never stops complaining. Keeps whining about the existence of Illidan. Just totally sucks in every way possible. Emo, edgy, shit at her job, a plot device, never does anything actually useful. Fucks over other people. Just has zero redeeming qualities. Why we didnt let her die in the ravensbrook hold I have no idea. Killing her at the end of the darkshore warfront would have been better if it was permanent.
Nobbel. Just wanted to hop on and say........ I love your lore vids man. Very well done. I myself really only play for the lore aspect, and find myself running old content after I gear up. Finally just subscribed (don't know why I didn't before). But look foreward to much more. Thanks.
I want to thank you for all you do, my good sir. After Warcraft III I lost track of everything that was happening; World of Warcraft was very hard to follow the story compared to Warcraft series. However, you sir, has made everything clear for me. I am extremely glad for the videos you make. You sir have earned yourself a subscriber :D I guess that's all I can do for you to express the kindest of my appreciation. Ингэж их хичээл зүтгэл гаргаж байгаад тань үнэхээр их гялайлаа :)
I'd like to thank you for all of the work you put into these videos. I'm somewhat new to Wow, and having rushed through the burning crusade I missed alot of great story, I'm almost finished the lich king expansion now and the lore is becoming extremely alluring. Thank you !
Honestly, playing WCIII, he did have a power addiction, but he was still right minded that he did what he had too do. When his brother asked: But at what cost, your soul?" Yes, he saved your bloody arse. You can not say he is bad because he turned himself into something that aided you. That is a sacrifice in a sense, but also a selfish one. Then you get Kil'Jaden, who Illidan knows upon confrontation he can not simply disobey, not till he can beat him, because you will get another Lich King. He only played that card because there was nothing he can do, plus killing the LK was something he needed to do also, two birds baby, and doing so will get him more power. He did do a few bad things, but from WCIII, I do not see any evil that outweighs the good.
illidan is power hungry, he tried doing the right thing but got blinded by power, over and over again.. illidan is one of the most iconic characters blizzard has made, and probly one of the best. so bringing him back would be awesome
I personally think this: Illidan, next to Arthas, is one of the most bad ass characters (not hero or villians, just characters) in WoW and Warcraft III. He is by NO means a villian. While, yes, you could argue that some of his actions were debatable, such as killing those Night Elves and...I think that is about it. I understand that the transformation of the lake into a new Eternal Well would be questionable, but since Illidan's prophecy did ring true, that can be swatted away. And, the destroying of Northrend had the best intention of ridding the world of the Lich King. And, if I am to be quite honest, throughout my entire history of knowing Illidan (Starting with Warcraft III and going through World of Warcraft) I have always supported Illidan, his motives and his goals. And, I would have expected him to just say: "OK, am I the only one on this planet with some f*cking brains? I try to save the world MULTIPLY times, arguably doing so on several occasions, and this is how I am thanked? Are all of plagued with supidity, or am I the only one with 'open eyes' in the entire world?" Akama was wrong. Illidan was already the betrayed. For giving the Night Elves' further power over nature, immortality and a place of power where they could later lead the demons into a trap, he is locked away. He consumed the power of the Skull of Gul'dan, stopping the corruption of Kalandor and even killed one of the Legion's most prominent Lt. only to be banished. He obtains the Eye of the demon lord of the Legion to try and put an end to the Lord of Dead and for that he is put to death. And, even after all that, saving Tyranda and etc. he is still banished, and all for bringing a curse that was to be a blessing and killing a few Night Elves (Which, Tyranda killed several Night Elves, Watchers and a motherf*cking Grove Keeper to free a prisoner who was rumored to have the abilities to cause massive harm on the Night Elves, which I remind all of you that Illidan had enough enmity and hatred for the people who locked him up for all those years, which I do add he DIDN'T do, despite everything.) Yet, Tyranda still had no charges against her. Which I summon this harsh reality: Malfurion chose Tyranda over his brother. Plain and simple. Despite both brothers wanting Tyranda, Malfurion had half of a mind to kill Illidan, while Illidan was being tempted by a DEMON and yet Illidan still didn't even really consider the idea, while Malfurion was seconds away from killing Illidan because he was with five feet of Tyranda. Malfurion and Tyranda are the most reckless, if not childish and most downright stupid of all of the Warcraft heroes. I don't even think that the incompetent commander of the Night Elves before Jarod Shadowsong could top these two. Illidan would have made a better hero, but he died a betrayed hero instead, betrayed by those he defended. In fact, now that I think about it: Illidan is the Joan of Arc of Warcraft. Betrayed by those he defended, but still being bad ass before his down fall. Illidan deserved much better then Tyranda. Rest in Peace, Illidan. May we see you in another expansion. Before I end this comment, I do not believe Illidan NEEDS a redemption. I think he deserves an apology and praise for all he has done.
By creating well again, he made it possible for legion to summon sargeras or any high ranked member of legion. To open portal to summon such immense beings, they need equally strong magical source. New well of eternity was perfect for that, which is why final battle took place in mt.hyjal. And you forget one important part of his character. He easily lose control of himself under high power. Once he is done destroying northrend(along with all those lives, races), breaking jail of old god (ulduar), what would've he wanted after that? My my of course it will be tyrande. With the power tp destroy anything he wishes, why wouldn't he threaten nightelves?
Saruul Naran You do create a highly valid point. However, have you've ever heard of a "crime committed in innocence"? The Well of Eternity had been abused by the High Elves and their crazy Elf Queen. In all likeness, without the power of another well, the Night Elves would become far to weak and be overwhelmed by some other force (Lets not all forget that a gigantic dragon, the former Earth Warden, under the Old Gods, is still hiding beneath the earth), not to mention that the dragons created the World Tree which gave Night Elves powers of nature, immortality and etc. And, correct, the Battle of Mt. Hyjal had been important and would spell doom if Archmionde absorbed it. However, it had been the trap which spelled the end of the Legion invasion. Without the tree, the SECOND coming of the Legion (which had been of Medivh's spell book with the help of Arthas, I mind you) the Night Elves couldn't possibly hold out. Without the world tree, the entirety of Azeroth would have been destroyed. And, as for Northrend? Hmmm...last time I checked, you are not aloud to disagree with a high Legion commander. In addition, did anyone know that an old god laid imprisoned under Northrend? No. I can see your points, but keep in mind: Without the tree, the Night Elves would be doomed and mighty heroes of the Night Elves would not be alive to stop the Legion. And no one knew that there was an Old God under Northrend. Hell, I doubt even the guardians knew. I only agree that Illidan did not work well with power because of his insanity in Outland.
Alfred Ashford While I actually agree with your sentiment and even more so with your original conclusion (Illidian's deeds are known, he needs no redemption, but his brother needs to realize that he WAS wrong for condemning him) The Well wasn't needed, especially DIRECTLY after the invasion was repelled at HUGE cost to the ENTIRE planet. He polluted one of the few sources of available drinking water after the corruption that swept over Kalimdor, he was already growing addicted to the arcane magics and killed his people when they merely (and rightly) told him what he was doing was madness. The Legion would not return for another ten thousand years, if he had only turned to his people, his brother, even Tyrande; to seek some kind of defence against the threat he knew would return. Illidian has done much good but he is rash and he rarely if ever thinks of the consequences, yes he sacrificed himself and his soul to do what he thought was right but he said it himself, "I do not seek dominion...only power." If Illidian is evil then by what I've seen, his twin is just as if not more so, and the fact that he just gets away with it all makes me as pissed as Illidian was but unlike me, he actually choose to forgive him...and the bastard banishes him- FUCK MALFURION
Never was a big fan of wow lore, since i started playing at BC, never played warcraft 3. But now that i know the lore behind raids, they become that much more interesting and enjoyable.
Illidan is a well written character, everything was against him and he had every reason to become a bad guy, yet chooses to still be a hero. *meanwhile* Sylvannas: *gets killed* Sylvannas: I AM FILLED WITH RAAAAAAAGE AND ANGER
I think they should have made a thrid faction to the game with the Draenei, the Blood Elves, the Naga and the Forsaken. It would fit so perfect in the storyline. The Forsaken and the Horde were always just a partnership of convenience. Silvanas and Illidan had the same goal (Destroying the Frostthrone/Arthas) and Illidan wouldn't have any Problems with Silvanas using her raw Power, like she does now and The Horde could have the Goblin race in return for their loss.
I'm absolutly sure Blizzard considered to make a 3th faction, but I think they didn't did it because their whole System was made for 2 Factions and they had to change all the battlegrounds etc. Also they had to make 4 new Races + Capital Citys + Questlines for each new Race + Endgame content which would be a little bit much. Also they couldn't just force Undead players to join a new faction, because guilds and friends would be splitt. Which leads me back to my first conclusion they adabted the story to the game and not the game to the story.
Rushing through all of these lore videos right now. I can't stop questioning why blizz turned such a cool and complex characters from Warcraft 3 like Illidan and Arthas into a pure evil which needs to be executed asap in the WoW. It's just seems so wrong. Vids are great, glad I've found you.
Honestly nobbel, this is so amazing, im at ur streams to but, ive watched like 6 hours of lore and im just looving it. keep up the good work, and have a sub for the great work:)
Illidian was my favorite hero in War3 when I was a child just because how badass he looks and the demon form he changes. But I'd never imagine he would ended up dying be Mavie the warden :/
I have a bunch of questions; this ended up being a light novel and I'm very sorry about that-- but it was a long video, after all, and I think it raises some really interesting points. 1. First off, by whom was the artwork done that was featured in this video (not the WC3 stills, but the various pieces of fan art)? (cont'd below as a light novel) 2. One thing I never understood: Illidan personally gave Kael'thas one of his vials of eternity. Why didn't Kael'thas just make a new Sunwell with that, the way his great great grandfather did? Didn't Illidan worry about giving a vial to Vashj, considering she could conceivably have used it to make a similar fountain, and Azshara had a history of trying to summon Kil'jaeden through the Well of Eternity? 3. Was it the dragons' blessing of Nordrassil that gave the NEs immortality? I thought it was the Well of Eternity? Or did both of those things give them eternal life? (Considering that they had eternal life before the events with Nordrassil). If the dragons' blessing of Nordrassil gave them immortality, then wouldn't the high elves have had much longer lives than they did, considering the destruction of Nordrassil was relatively recent? Ex., Anasterian was considered very old at the age of 3000 years, but clearly 10,000 years had done nothing to age Tyrande, Maiev, etc-- and I always thought the high elves had shorter lives than the night elves because many of them were born after the well of eternity's destruction? (ie, the night elves who had been around during the well's existence benefited from some effects of longevity... ) If the dragons' blessing of Nordrassil had given the night elves immortality until its destruction over 10,000 years later, then wouldn't that blessing have extended to the banished highborne night elves as well? 4. Something else I'm really confused about is that he says Dath'remar and the highborne who sided with him actually fought *against* Illidan when he tried making a 'new' well of eternity at Hyjal? I get that, earlier, Dath'remar & friends were against the idea of summoning the Legion, but you're saying they were actually against the creation of the new well, to the point of clashing with Illidan about it? Did they just originally think they'd probably manage without the practice of magic or something? This doesn't seem right especially considering Dath'remar actually stole one of Illidan's vials later, which eventually he had used to make the Sunwell - but he actually fought against Illidan for trying to make a new well of eternity? Am I just misunderstanding something he says? 5. So: Krasus taught Rhonin, and Rhonin taught Illidan, and Illidan taught Kael'thas. That is, the teachings of extracting magical energies from demons and living things. Until M'uru was used to replenish the Sunwell, the blood elves relied heavily on those methods to rebuild their kingdom and for their own health. Considering Rhonin, Krasus, and Kael'thas were members of The Six at the same time, and probably knew each other well enough, couldn't either of them have ever taught Kael'thas those methods? Granted, say it hadn't occurred to them while they were all in The Six and before Quel'thalas' destruction; but considering Krasus was quite involved in the events following the fall of Quel'thalas, and knew about how Kael'thas actively sought a solution to their addiction, couldn't he have taught Kael'thas those methods? One might argue that either Krasus or Rhonin would have thought those methods to be "too dangerous and reckless," but Krasus did teach them to Rhonin. And Rhonin did teach them to Illidan, which was AFTER Rhonin had been on probation for being reckless in the past, meaning that most likely whatever he taught Illidan at that point was stuff he deemed to be responsible... 6. I never knew Vashj gave Illidan a sponge bath, I always thought Azshara was the one crushing on him; speaking of which, why did Azshara try to hypnotize Illidan? As to the speculation on why the naga answered Illidan's call many years later and came to his aid: well, clearly this was because Azshara always had a crush on Illidan. You know how it is, you can't just go up to the guy you like directly, you have to send your friend to talk to him for you, to find out if he likes you. So Azshara sent Vashj. You know, when he called the naga and his name showed up on her seashell phone or whatever, she "totally didn't freak out" to suddenly hear from him after ten thousand years. She probably squeed about it to Vashj and then pushed her to answer him, because "she can't just talk to him" because "that would make her look desperate." Then she stayed really close and was all whispering, "What's he saying?" - And Vashj whispered back, "He wants us to join him." And Azshara totally freaked and was like, "What, you mean, now? He wants to meet now? I can't go, you go! Find out if he likes tentacles!" Kidding of course, but I think symbolically there's significance to the naga and blood elves teaming up with Illidan. They represent three branches of the people who originally wanted to keep practicing magic in opposition to the rest of Ashenvale. All three were punished and humiliated for it in one way or another, and in that they carry the same burden. Some comments: 1. Not only is it weird that Illidan was able to get his glaives after being in prison, but I always thought it was weird he managed to keep the three remaining vials of eternity that entire time (where exactly did he hide them....) 2. I never understood why whoever wrote this story thought Tyrande has to choose either Illidan or Malfurion. Come on, girl, twins... the answer is obvious, you take both... 3. Impressive voice acting on part of Trixen01
First off, im very surprised that nobody replied to you after you put the effort into writting this whole thing, so ima try answering some of your questions. 1. The artwork was done by various people, you can try looking it up on deviantart or just google them. :P 2. The reason Kael didn't use his vial to make a new WoE was probably because 1 vial was not enough to make a new WoE so he didn't want to try and waste it on something that wouldn't work, but was the reason he was draining all the mana from Netherstorm because he needed an abnornal amount of mana to mix in with the Vial so he could get something close to the one in the Sunwell? 3. The new WoE Illidan made was to give back the immortality to the Night Elves and also their source of arcane magic(well it was actually the source of arcane magic for all of Azeroth, so in a way you could say Illidan saved all the future generations of mages and anybody who uses arcane magic right now). The Blessing of the Dragon Aspects only purified the well because the well Illidan made was a corrupted one and it was corrupted because he took the vials from the original WoE after it was corrupted by Azshara and the Demons. And fyi the Druids are still using that WoE all over the world for healing and whatnot, you can find it in most Druid encampments or quest hubs where druids exist. :P 4. The reason they fought him when he was made the new WoE was because they were afraid that it might bring another Sundering upon the world and considering that they just finished fighting the first Sundering(it was literally a few days after the end of the War of the Ancients that Illidan made the new WoE). Illidan himself told them that the well wasn't the only thing that attracted the demons to Azeroth and that they WILL come back in the future, and what do you know, he was saying the truth the whole time(3rd war). 5. The Council of Six was more like a group of the most powerful mages in Azeroth and they were only there because of their power, I doubt they had any friendly connections between themselves, so either Kael'thas never asked(and he probably didn't since the Blood Elves(High Elves back then) were a proud race. they still are) or Rhonin simply never wanted to teach anyone those spells since he knew the consequences they could make in the wrong hands. 6. Yes, Azshara was the one who first talked to Illidan after Sargeras burned his eyes and she was trying to seduce him but she didn't know that he already loved Tyrande and didn't have any interest in her. She was trying to seduce him only so he could be her servant, not her lover, she actually wanted Sargeras to be her mate(lol) which was the reason why she was trying to summon him to Azeroth, "to rebuild the world from destruction and become my mate" that was roughly what she said. :P About those comments: 1. That was probably because Blizzard didn't want to make a model of Illidan without the Glaives for wc3 and I have no idea why they didnt take his vials, it was probably for game mechanics, but if they truly new what those vials were(he had 4 when he was imprisoned) they should have sealed them in the deepest depths of Azeroth considering how scared they were of the Legion. 2. True that! =D Oh well, that's enough from me, hopefully I answered all of you questions feel free to ask anything else you might be intersted in :P
Ivusftw yo Thank you for taking the time to read my incredibly long post and writing out answers-- you're super awesome for that and I really appreciate it =) Please don't be upset, but I'm afraid that you misunderstood/misread most of my questions, and there's some erroneous info in your post; also, I feel like in some answers you were giving your best theory or guess as opposed to factual info. So I went ahead and responded to that. Again, I'm really sorry, I don't mean to sound rude, because I really do appreciate the time and thought you put in to your answers, and that you actually took the time to read my huge post. Thank you again, and please see below if you're interested in my responses: 1. Thank you, but I'm already aware that the art was done by various people, and that art can be found by searches on google or DA; if I'd have found those specific images that way, I wouldn't have asked. 2. As I said in my question, Dath'remar Sunstrider (Kael's great great grandfather) used exactly one vial of eternity to make the original Sunwell. He had stolen that vial from Illidan. I think Nobbel even discusses this in his vid. Therefore, it's not true that one vial is not enough. 3. In this question I was specifically addressing something Nobbel had said in his vid (ie, that presumably the dragons' blessing of Nordrassil gave the NEs eternal life) - I was questioning whether he really meant to say that, because they don't have immortality anymore. Also, if the vials Illidan used were corrupted, as you say, then that would have meant the Sunwell (which was made from one of his vials) would have been corrupted for 9000 years, and it wasn't. In fact, after Arthas had used the Sunwell to resurrect Kel'thuzad, that was when the Sunwell was decidedly corrupted, to the point that it was causing illness to the residents of Quel'thalas, and therefore Kael'thas destroyed it. 4. Actually, I'm pretty sure this was a mistake in the video or something; I went back and checked the lore and Dath'remar definitely did not oppose Illidan's creation of the new well (which would seem obvious anyway). It was the non-highborne kaldorei who opposed its creation and the practice of magic because of fear of another Sundering and so on. The highborne led by Dath'remar were banished because they kept practicing magic despite the new laws, and that's the group that went on to found Quel'thalas about a thousand years later. 5. I'm sorry, but those reasons just don't add up; Krasus went through the trouble of saving the last remnant of the Sunwell by creating Anveena, so clearly he went very far out of his way for Quel'thalas. If he were going to teach the methods of harvesting magic to Rhonin, who was also in the council of Six (which he did do), then there's no reason he wouldn't have taught them to Kael'thas, or at least Lor'themar, with whom Krasus worked personally to help Quel'thalas. Saying "they probably weren't good enough friends" isn't a good reason here, because apparently Krasus was "good enough friends" with Rhonin to teach the methods to him, and apparently Krasus was a "good enough friend" of Quel'thalas to go far out of his way to make Anveena, etc. At any rate, I'm sorry again if I sound argumentative or unappreciative; I really do appreciate your time and thoughts, so thanks again!
Oh well I guess I messed up on some things, but I am pretty sure the Well Illidan took the vials from WAS CORRUPTED. The demons already had their way with the well when Illidan took the vials and you can also see it in the dungeon Well of Eternity(85hc), so yes, the Blessing of the Dragon Aspects did purify the well and since Nozdormu himself gave a blessing, the night elves were immortal until Archimonde destroyed the World Tree, and you can still see Illidan's WoE in Hyjal, PURIFIED. Teldrassil was the new World Tree which didn't have the Blessing of the Aspects, and since I haven't read Stormrage and don't know what happens to it, I can't tell you for sure but iirc it had something to do with the Nightmare of the Emerald Dream and Staghelm, and I remember quite a few people getting mad because Malfurion right out REFUSED to return immortality to his people, which was offered by Nozdormu at the end of that book afaik. About the rest of the things you mentioned, it's all pure specualtion and im pretty sure it was never written into a novel or a book that Krasus taught magic to anyone except Rhonin, so the best we can do is speculate.
Illidan Stormrage Basically everything lol. it should look like: Imprisoned for 10,000 years...banished from my own homeland, and you enter my domain? You are not prepared.
See, how talented young man fucks his life over because of love? Illidan could have gone for lady Vashj instead, maybe that would even prevent her from becoming the naga, but no, had to be Tyrande and all went to shit.
Jeronimo Prudêncio our world is in turmoil by men who want power and pussy. In fact the very reason for the existence of (most) organisms is to just fuck/procreate. Women are the reason for war, because war leads to power, and power leads to pussy.
Awesome job dude! I didn't start playing the game until Wrath, but your videos have caught me up on the all the lore! Thanks you and keep up the great work.
Always thought the Arthas-Sylvanas bit was mirrored by Maiev and Illidan in the way Sylvanas and Illidan were subjugated; but while Illidan and Sylvanas would make a formidable and cool team, in a romantic context I think it would kind of taint the beauty of Illidan's everlasting love for Tyrande.
Illidan has and always will be my favorite from Warcraft. His love for Tyrande drove him mad along with his lust for power and magic. I'd have followed him into hell. Thanks for such a great informative video. Much appreciated. Subbed and now watching all the others.
youarenowwastingseveralsecondsofyourlifejusttoreadmyunnecessarilylongandtotallyuncalledforname If a guy likes panda faces, let em have panda faces. i dont judge c:
I slowly realized that almost the entire history of Warcraft and the saving of Azeroth happened because a girl turned Illidan down as a teenager.
Teenager am i right!
Almost but not quite, the burning legion invasion was still the fault of azshara
This comment is underated lol
Illidan would never of heard about the legion if azshara hadn’t messed with them.
More like it happened because a teenage boy couldn’t handle his emotions.
The best way to describe the love triangle in the war of the ancients trilogy. Illidan: i love tyrande!Tyrande: no i love malfurion! Malfurion: do i love her? She loves me? I dont know i just like trees!
so accurate. it's really kind of sad
part 2;
Illidan; MARRY ME TYRANDE!
Tyrande; I cant....
Illidan; Why?!
Tyrande; I....I don't love you...
Malfurion; whoopsieee
Illidan;/rides off
Tyrandeeeeeeee
Or...
Maiev loves/hates Illidan...she hasn't decided yet, perhaps she's mad at him for running after Tyrande like a sick puppy, after she let him rot in prison for 10K year. "Hell hath no fury, than a woman scorned!"
Illidan loves Tyrande no matter what.
Tyrande loves Malfurion.
Malfurion loves himself...and the trees of cource....damned hippy!!!
+Blazey Kat xD
Illidan: I love Tyrande
Tyrande: I love Malfurion
Malfurion: I love trees lol
When it comes to Illidan... Well the old saying "Good intentions, poor execution" fits perfectly in. He never meant to be a bad guy, in fact he did everything he could to be the total opposite, but his thirst for power (to be used against the Legion) did pretty much go against the laws bullshittery from night elves, and may have made a a bit reckless... But still, in the end, all he wanted to do was save the world from the Legion, which does take some risky risks.
So then what about "The end justifies the means".?
@@akossarkady8823 Completely subjective. Some would agree, some wouldn't.
He still like, made a well of eternity which was the reason of their first war with the burning legion, and then indirectly became the way archimonde almost won in Warcraft 3. Illidan almost ended the world TWICE with his betrayal against malfurion + making a new well. He deserved all the hate he got. Malfurion was right
@@Cizzo8 To be fair, what major lore character hasn't almost ended the world?
@@brandoxic8354 Erhm plenty but your point is true. Yet... we do not praise these lore characters most of the time as "THEY DID NOTHING WRONG!!!". Illidan is the black sheep of just people completely ignoring what the hell he did. And why malfurion hates him in the first place
So in reality he's actually a flawed hero who had the best intentions for everyone but as always .. gets viewed as the monster.
He reminds me of Sylar from Heroes or even Jigsaw from Saw.
+〈The Nickname〉 I don't think Jigsaw. Jigsaw actually killed an tortured his victims.
His intentions were to change them and make them better people. Good intentions are there, they're just easily disagreeable.
I was going to ask "what about the legion expansion you left out" then i checked the videos upload date
Lol 2014

That was very well said and i feel the same way
The fact is that Maiev wen't crazy and chased him into Outland for no reson even though she was too weak to fight him alone so she had to get a bunch of greedy adventurers to help her
I like that in the end Illidan still got the last laugh
But on the other side he almost destroyed the world twice
Pablo Naranjo
Thanks for that fascinating, long and detailed response.
So he had to conquer Shattrath and the remainder of the Dranenei, as well as Honorhold and Thrallmar, so in an act of defense we had to siege the Blacktemple and kill Illidan.
sushanalone The next time we face the Legion, we'll do a quest to get Illidan's help, and his minions. I'm calling it right now.
1. Obtaining the artifact called Demon Soul was actually was his intention to use it and close the demonic portal…
Personal Gain: To impress Tyrande and to make her chose him over his brother
Heroic Act: To close the portal and end the war so the demons will stop entering Azeroth. Though he did not succeeded but at least it was a part of his good intention.
2. Creating the 2nd Well of Eternity…
Personal Gain: To satisfy his hunger for magic and power
Heroic Act: To use it in case the Burning Legion will return, and newsflash for anyone who didn’t realize this, he was RIGHT all along the Legion did return. And also without the new Well of Eternity he had created, of course, the World Tree would not been created which has given the Night Elves immortality. None of them would have lived long enough to defend the planet Azeroth from the Legion's return.
3. Claiming the Skull of Gul'dan…
Personal Gain: To become more powerful than ever
Heroic Act: To use its new powers against the demons and undead, and against their leader, Tichondrius. Also the fact that, the skull itself was corrupting the forests so, by consuming the energies of the skull, he also stops the skull's corruption to the forests. Illidan only had to do what he had.
4. Slay Tichondrius, the most intelligent, most powerful and the leader of the Dreadlords
This is a pure Heroic Act: Because this time he did not have any personal gain in killing Tichondrius. Tichondrius is the Chief Infiltration Specialist, and Legion’s Intelligence, obviously next to Kil’Jaeden and Archimonde, Tichondrius was the best asset the Burning Legion has.
5. Saving Tyrande’s life from the Undead Scourge armies…
This is another act of pure Heroism of Illidan: Despite everything his fellow Night Elves had done to him, he still showed love to Tyrande though he had already accept the fact that Tyrande chose his brother over him but still his feelings for her still remained and promised her whatever he may become that he will always look out for Tyrande.
6. Lord of Outland…
This one has 3 intentions of him
1st.
7. Destroying the Frozen Throne…
Personal Gain: He is doing it for the reward of great magic and power promised to him by Kil'Jaeden
Heroic Act: He was not only doing it for the power but he is also doing it to destroy the Undead Scourge completely in which by doing it so, he is doing it for vengeance and a huge favor for all the mortal races. For we all know, just like their demon creators of the Burning Legion, the Undead Scourge is also the enemy of all living races that includes the neutral races, the horde, the alliance and even his fellow night elven brethren and sisters. Though he did not succeeded in it, at least it was still a part of his good missions.
Ok boomer
Jk. Well done
Illidan is just a victim for missunderstanding
@@justinedc1077 i want to do that xD
I will play wc3 again.
Seriously, it's gotta SUCK to be Illidan. Everyone is teaming up on you and totally overreacting to what you do.
"Hey guys, I killed the leader of the undead army and saved the forest from the legions corruption, cool huh?"
"yeah fuck you dude, youre ugly"
he is powerful not gonna lie
Illidan is in my Top 10, but even I can say he's made some VERY questionable decisions. And some just straight up bad decisions. But that's why I appreciate him
It's such a shame that Illidan's lore wasn't really represented very well in BC, he was in the cinematic, and then you just sort of kill him later in Black Temple.
nothing in world of warcraft was represented well in terms of story compared to its RTS predecessors
Lidiot Lee eh, no, they did the lich king pretty fuckin' well. At least in wrath you KNEW the lich king was coming if you didn't read the quest text, besides the obvious "wrath of the LICH KING", he showed up several times and you could feel his effects everywhere in northrend.
Lidiot Lee
WoD isn't that bad and Lich Kind was decent. Cata was Meh in terms of ending the guy we knew would return.
Panda, that should have been used as a catalyst to end the war once and for all, but it was also a catalyst for WoD.
Did you actually read all the quest texts and watch and listen to everything ? Probably not , as do most people.
I think Illidan will return in the inevitable Return of the Burning Legion expansion. This time he will be on our side and train a new generation of Demon Hunters, WoW's second hero class, to help the Alliance and the Horde in the battle against the Legion.
+Prince Stormstrider wtf?!! How did you do that?!
+Prince Stormstrider I'm not a prophet, but I know players have wanted Illidan to return and a Demon Hunter class for some time. And with Wrathion's warning about the Legion's return that would be the perfect time to do it. I guess I was right.

You really do agree with, and understand his words:
"Betrayer... In truth, it was I who was betrayed..."
(I don't just mean how Tyrande first rejected him, or how disdainful Malfurion was of his arcane practices ).

Thank you for this explanation. I totally agree with it. : )

And I liked the blood elves more.
@@andermedievil I GREATLY preferred them as High Elves. But I can see your point.
wow i watched the whole dam thing! Longest video I have every watched on youtube. Good job , loved it!
TLDR , Illidan+Furion+Burning Legion+Emerald Dream+TwistingNether+Void+Oldgods
and WoW could end with something glorious.
Thumbs up if you agree. Fans need this!
Scott Cavill well im glad to say you dont work for them so thumbs up to that
Ya I am glad I don't work for Blizzard also. I wouldn't want to be hated by more and more people with each expansion for how terrible I am at my job.
Scott Cavill Lol ur idea sucked stfu.
This didn't just happen! I love you, dude.
I really want Illidan back, fuck arthas, I'm all about that Illidan.
+Łukasz Gądek I'm wondering if Illy will try to kill us or not. Cause like... alternative-verse Gul'dan has him.

Spoilers: Illidan does come back. Trust me... I'm from the future.
Or from the now. Tbh I'm glad he's back though.
+jaharned1 Haha, yeah. Just talking to all the comments from years past. :P I'm real glad he's back too and also glad that they didn't do it in a way like they did with Gul'dan.
+charliesees "Oh, you want Gul'dan? Hey guys, get the timey wimey Dark Portal that we scrapped for obvious reasons! Done."
But I don't understand why did Illidan accept to serve Kil'Jaeden,
From memory, he did it because he knew it would be the only way to save himself, Kil'Jaeden would have hunted him down forever otherwise.
Mega Minx
Good discussions here, may I join?
In my opinion it take a lot of guts to make the best possible choice. not the good one, even if it meens being banned afterward.
swan panelle
Which is the same scenario when he claim the "Skull of Gul'dan" to, first, stop the corruption of forests in Felwood, because the skull ITSELF corrupts the forests... And second, to use his newfound power to lead an army, and destroy all the rest of the enemies around demons, satyrs, skeletons, giant spiders, and of course, TICHONDRIUS, the most powerful dreadlord who ever, and the very leader or king of the Nathrezim race..
K'J would give him anything his heart desire (Tyrande in other words)
Illidan for....night elf king thingy :P
I love his lore and how he is totally displayed as a bad guy, even though he saved everyone, twice
Ofcourse! Just can't give a set date ^_^
Yaay!! ^^ Thank you so much!
As a guy living in the Netherlands, your accent is so obvious, haha. :D But great job Nobbel, love these vids, know them for a while now.
Brett Allen Yep, they fucked it up.
Hands down my favorite Warcraft character, I hated how they pretty much changed him from something of an antihero to more of a villain in TBC, I hope he is brought back at some point
lol
You crack me up every time you roll your R's.
It gives him a unique tone :D but i also is a bit annoying haha although he did a good job

I love to play as Illidan in warcraft 3. Favorite character!
"Whatever I may be--whatever I may become in this world--know that I will always look out for you, Tyrande."
Blizz, bring back this is Illidan, not the nut job from BC
Illidan should definitely come back! Upon replaying BC I realize just how much his character got the axe in that expansion. I still enjoy BC, but the story was it`s weakest point. If you replace Illidan with Kil`jaeden then things start to make a lot more sense.
In my own head canon I see the player characters eventually siding with Illidan against Kil`jaeden and the Legion in BC rather than fighting him for some nebulous reason.
Hey Nobbel, I´ve been following your lore vids a while.
Lmao, once you've read the book that contains that... It kinda does become an everyday thing in Warcraft. Atleast in concept, etc.
William Branch lol yeah I'm in the process of reading it :P I wonder if I'll see that line multiple times in the book xD it just sounds funny.
Trevor Horne Maybe two or three times, one when it happens and maybe one or two more discussing it.
William Branch lol I knew that these were gonna be great books :P
This is outdated. Can we have a new Full Version?
I disagree on Illidan being bad. I think it's way more complicated than that.
Well done sir. You were right.
Illidan is the true hero of the Azeroth. He and Broxigar managed to hurt the Burning legion the most.
also this video far skimps on the topic of how Maiev is the biggest cunt in the history of Azeroth.
Boo Radley how? I wanna knoooo
@@saopaolo1216
Tries to let Tyrande die by claiming she's already dead instead of going after her as she gets washed down river.
Boo Radley gotcha. Year def sounds like a bitch
TRUE!Уou are right mate.
Ингэж их хичээл зүтгэл гаргаж байгаад тань үнэхээр их гялайлаа :)
...I love that in the new "Illidan" book they explain why he has his weapons when we find him in the cell in WC3...
i really hope that Illidan returns. he`s the best character in WOW
Aaaand the wish has been granted! :D Looking forward to play the Legion expansion!
I'd like to thank you for all of the work you put into these videos. I'm somewhat new to Wow, and having rushed through the burning crusade I missed alot of great story, I'm almost finished the lich king expansion now and the lore is becoming extremely alluring. Thank you !
Ik speel niet eens WoW maar man man man wat vind ik de lore toch interessant om te ontdekken doormiddel van jouw filmpjes. Bedankt!
this was illidan stormrage the movie.
now i want to solo the black temple
finally sat down and soloed the black temple and i didn't get anything for the transmog set i was after
Honestly, playing WCIII, he did have a power addiction, but he was still right minded that he did what he had too do.
21:20 "he put a spell on her that prevented her from talking" heh, sounds useful tbh
illidan is power hungry, he tried doing the right thing but got blinded by power, over and over again..
illidan is one of the most iconic characters blizzard has made, and probly one of the best. so bringing him back would be awesome
This was very well done, I really like your storytelling style :D
Are all of plagued with supidity, or am I the only one with 'open eyes' in the entire world?"
Akama was wrong.
Illidan is back, the redemption story is real.
Anyone else here because of the new expansion launch? I have Illi questions now....
Austin Cooley yep :)
Austin Cooley Yep I'm here.
Austin Cooley damn i hope Illidan will be a good guy this time a fight against the burning legion
+Austin Cooley I am here because WC3
Hiperdude Lolz me too
Never was a big fan of wow lore, since i started playing at BC, never played warcraft 3. But now that i know the lore behind raids, they become that much more interesting and enjoyable.
This is awesome. Love Illidan's story and all the lore around him. Thanks for making this.
Illidan is a well written character, everything was against him and he had every reason to become a bad guy, yet chooses to still be a hero.
*meanwhile*
Sylvannas: *gets killed*
Sylvannas: I AM FILLED WITH RAAAAAAAGE AND ANGER
uhhhh no, that's COMPLETELY misunderstanding her character entirely so. There's much more to Sylvanas than what you're badly letting on here.
Which leads me back to my first conclusion they adabted the story to the game and not the game to the story.
ok just a fact if anyone have played darksiders the guy who voices war is the same who voices illidan
I fucking love darksiders and now you mention it..... You changed my life for ever.
Bankerz
:)
***** know that you say it i can hear it in yasuo and do you speak about english naruto and bleach
He does mean that, yes.
my mind is now jelly....
Illidain is classified as a demon in hearthstone :P
HOLY SHIT They are hinting it !!!!
THAT HYPE DOE
Illidian was my favorite hero in War3 when I was a child just because how badass he looks and the demon form he changes. But I'd never imagine he would ended up dying be Mavie the warden :/
I have a bunch of questions; this ended up being a light novel and I'm very sorry about that-- but it was a long video, after all, and I think it raises some really interesting points.
1. First off, by whom was the artwork done that was featured in this video (not the WC3 stills, but the various pieces of fan art)? (cont'd below as a light novel)
Find out if he likes tentacles!"
Kidding of course, but I think symbolically there's significance to the naga and blood elves teaming up with Illidan. They represent three branches of the people who originally wanted to keep practicing magic in opposition to the rest of Ashenvale. All three were punished and humiliated for it in one way or another, and in that they carry the same burden.
Some comments:
1. Not only is it weird that Illidan was able to get his glaives after being in prison, but I always thought it was weird he managed to keep the three remaining vials of eternity that entire time (where exactly did he hide them....)
About those comments:
2. True that! =D
Oh well, that's enough from me, hopefully I answered all of you questions feel free to ask anything else you might be intersted in :P
Dat is all a lottttttt of writing o.o
Ivusftw yo Thank you for taking the time to read my incredibly long post and writing out answers-- you're super awesome for that and I really appreciate it =) Please don't be upset, but I'm afraid that you misunderstood/misread most of my questions, and there's some erroneous info in your post; also, I feel like in some answers you were giving your best theory or guess as opposed to factual info. So I went ahead and responded to that. Again, I'm really sorry, I don't mean to sound rude, because I really do appreciate the time and thought you put in to your answers, and that you actually took the time to read my huge post. Thank you again, and please see below if you're interested in my responses:

Inprisoned for 10,000 year. Banished from my own homeland. And you enter my domain. You are not prepared!
Spelling and grammar. Get it right to get the full effect.
Nerd Psycho Tell me what i did wrong
Illidan Stormrage Basically everything lol. it should look like:
Imprisoned for 10,000 years...banished from my own homeland, and you enter my domain? You are not prepared.
Illidan Stormrage Didn't you ask what you did wrong haha?
Illidan Stormrage
Imprisoned for 10,000 years... banished from my own homeland, an now you dare enter my realm? You are not prepare - Corrected xD
These videos are so great to watch while I'm farming stuff in game. Great stuff.
Illidan was my favourite character since Warcraft 3 and I hate to see his story end like that. I don't see him as a villian.
See, how talented young man fucks his life over because of love? Illidan could have gone for lady Vashj instead, maybe that would even prevent her from becoming the naga, but no, had to be Tyrande and all went to shit.
*****
I swear, every fuck up in stories are because of women.
***** It's such a fucked up way to look at it. But hell it's so true! Haha.
Jeronimo Prudêncio our world is in turmoil by men who want power and pussy. In fact the very reason for the existence of (most) organisms is to just fuck/procreate.
Women are the reason for war, because war leads to power, and power leads to pussy.

***** You do know Illidan never existed, this is fantasy? :D
Illidan does the stuff the “pure good” people can’t/won’t do when needed
This video is actually extremely relevant now, especially how you did the ending.
Really good job btw, love to see your videos!
very well done. You definetly deserve the 1 million views
Oh Lord Illidan, long was the wait for your return. You deserve to be known as the true hero you've always been!

Awesome job dude! I didn't start playing the game until Wrath, but your videos have caught me up on the all the lore! Thanks you and keep up the great work.
With legion Coming Out I went on a lore spree, thanks for making all the Vids Nobbel!
if illidan and salavanas teamed omg i'm hooked
omg the things that would happen
i like this idea
dude you know whats cool the booth hate arthas lol
Always thought the Arthas-Sylvanas bit was mirrored by Maiev and Illidan in the way Sylvanas and Illidan were subjugated; but while Illidan and Sylvanas would make a formidable and cool team, in a romantic context I think it would kind of taint the beauty of Illidan's everlasting love for Tyrande.
New WoW expansion : World of Warcraft Return of the dead 2020 :D
In 2011, they sad they will consider bringing Illidan back, Blizzard did not dissapoint us! At that moment Legion has begun!
1 year later and Illidan is back! Plus a Demon Hunter class! Hype for Legion is real.
Only 13k likes? This man has put soooo much into this video.
Illidan has and always will be my favorite from Warcraft. His love for Tyrande drove him mad along with his lust for power and magic. I'd have followed him into hell. Thanks for such a great informative video. Much appreciated. Subbed and now watching all the others.
Why does Warcraft 3 Illidan have panda faces on his glaives?
youarenowwastingseveralsecondsofyourlifejusttoreadmyunnecessarilylongandtotallyuncalledforname If a guy likes panda faces, let em have panda faces. i dont judge c:
