Man, I've never seen someone who's an older DnD player not be accommodating if not out right excited to teach "newer" people what DnD can be; in my circle, we get new players all the time and it's a universal unspoken rule to be nice and patient with them - it doesn't matter if you know the rulebook by heart, that doesn't make you "better" at DnD, just more experienced, which often has nothing to actually do with how good of a player or DM you are.
I've had it be a coin flip for me. Like 50/50 on the dot lol. In all fairness, sadly I'm not as good as judge of a character when I meet people as I wish I was lol
