the English kitchen is truly lovely..."wormsy-tormsy" (as my darling little niece would say) without being cluttered. i love your channel, so happy to have found you! Penelope
I enjoyed all of the color palettes, and many of the design elements in all of the kitchens. I would say that the Parisien kitchen was my favorite. Although, I do find one fault with all of them. I am a man in his mid 60's who is already starting to develop arthritis problems, so I am very concerned with mobility issues, specifically bending down too low and reaching up too high. All of the kitchens had ovens that were low, especially the German kitchen. Those low ovens are fine for younger adults to use, but parents would have to be especially careful of young children in the kitchen. I much prefer a cooktop or rangetop in the counter and one or two wall ovens.
Great video! I could listen to you talk about kitchens all day. The German kitchen was my favourite. The way they integrated the seating into the design was very unique. The only thing missing are some stainless steal regular dishwashers. oh well lol
Great video! I’d like to get your opinion on the various toe-kicks featured in your video. 1. In the French kitchen there is a toe-kick design I’ve never seen before - the toe kick was cut in about 3 inches on the ends of the run of wall cabinets and on the island. Usually the end panel goes all the way to the floor. Have you ever done that in one of your designs? 2. In the German kitchen the side panels on each of the base cabinet comes right down to the floor resulting in a series of vertical wood “protrusions” into the toe kick area. Wouldn’t that make it a bit dangerous to move along the front of the cabinets while doing prep work since your feet could hit against the wood? Those protrusions will also make it harder to clean the floor - all those edges and corners to get a mop into! (I think the dining set is Danish, maybe by Hans Wegner. The chair is probably the "round" chair). 3. In the UK kitchen, there are no toe-kicks at all. The area where a toe kick would normally be is actually built forward with a decorative base moulding. I’ve read that the reason for a toe-kick is so you can tuck your toes in under the base cabinet by 3-4 inches, thereby allowing your body to be closer to the countertop edge. This way, you won’t have to bend and reach forward as far.
Thanks! Keen eye! 1. Yes, I've done lots of these. Typically associated with contemporary kitchens and, i think, best used on an island to create a 'floating' look. Purely a style choice. I wrote a bit about them here - kitchinsider.com/what-is-a-floating-kitchen/ 2. Again, purely a style/design choice. The cabinets are designed with full gable ends (kind of feet) as part of their construction. This style is, again, usually seen in more contemporary kitchens, it helps to give that linear repetition often used for symmetry. I agree, it can be a bit annoying moving along the front of them and cleaning. Thanks, I'll look up that table! 3. Yes, done lots of these too. This is called skirting (cabinet skirting) - in the UK at least. Usually, a more traditional look and a bit more ornate, although you can get a square edge slightly more contemporary-looking versions too. Completely covers the toe kick (plinth) area. Handy for cleaning, but you're absolutely right, not as comfortable to stand in front of, in my opinion at least.
We are fortunate in having a comparitively large ( 6.5M x 3.8M ) space to work with and are in a rural setting so we really liked the English country kitchen with the US design coming second . But my wife is very disappointed that you are not in NZ to help us with our design !
All stunning kitchens, but the German one is my favorite. Lichelle Silvestry does beuatiful work in Paris. I love the way she blends modern design into classic Haussmannian apartements.
I like them all. Honestly wouldn’t mind having any one of these in my house. Sadly these are out of my budget. The Australian one is probably the least interesting (but still very good). The French kitchen felt like an afterthought and looks like a renovation instead of effortless kitchen that it’s trying to portray. The Germany kitchen got me very excited. But it has to marry with the rest of the house. So it depends on what you have already. Not family friendly. But lovely to look at. The uk country style is nice if you have this kind of space. One can only dream. I thought I wouldn’t like the USA one at first glance but the more I look at it the more I like it. Looks unique enough to feel special.
What a fun video! All of the kitchens are quite lovely. The look of the German kitchen is probably my favorite--I agree with you about the table and chairs. The Paris kitchen is very nice, I really like the look of it, but cleaning the cabinets above the range?--nope. 😊 Thanks for a great video Michael!
Hello, I love your channel and website! I searched but was unable to find the article/video, about kitchen countertop height ergonomics. Google tells me that if the cook is tall, the countertop should be taller too, not the standard 90-92cm. I'm 177cm and will 95cm be better or should I go with 92cm? What's the trend regarding this in the UK?
Thanks so much! Pleased you're enjoying them. I wrote a bit about that here - kitchinsider.com/kitchen-worktop-height/ It's an important consideration but if there are multiple users of the kitchen, finding a happy average height is key. You could also just adapt a particular section, like making the island slightly higher for you to work at. I hope that helps!
@@kitchinsider thank you so much for the reply! Sorry, I missed that - I feel silly, although I really searched your channel and site. Thanks for the link and all the work you do and the knowledge you spread ❤️ You are amazing! ☺️
Thanks so much! No problem at all. It's an older article and it might not have come up in my search because I use the word 'worktop' instead of ''countertop'. Nowadays I try and get both words in so everyone knows what I'm on about. Same with hob and cooktop! 😊

Very good point! Personally, I prefer that too.
The English one was very cosy. Loved the green and the island was so well done
Warm minimalist for me anyday everyday - Paris
Love it!
I think I liked the kitchen from France. I thought how they made the table lovely. Maybe I will utilize the idea in my kitchen
Love the banquet at back of the island
Absolutely loved this! my favorite is the French kitchen...sublime.
I miss this channel. Wish you would make more videos 😊

Thanks Mark! Just as well, I think I could talk about kitchens all day! And no kitchen is ever missing a freestanding S.S dishwasher! 😂
On first viewing I like all of them equally. I may need to view this 3 or 4 times before I decide on a favorite.
Watch it as many times as you like 👍 (I'll wait to hear your favourite)

I love Nick Lewis as well! Fantastic videos thank you…😊
Nick is great! Thanks! 😊
They are all so lovely..I like elements of them for practicality..but don’t know if they would merge aesthetically.
Australia. I do like the UK one too but imagine all the walking around you’d have to do.
Yeah, it is a big room!
I like them all, but the last one, the USA is my fav, warm and elegant
Oh all of them 😅❤❤😊😊😂😂. I'm obsessed with your channel ❤❤❤❤❤❤.
my favourite is the UK country-style kitchen
A classic!
Love the Australia kitchen. 😍
Lots of lovely kitchen design coming out of Australia right now!

I agree! I had a good look around her website/portfolio, some really lovely stuff!
The austrian one was lovely, but I like those top french cabinets.
Yeah, they're lovely. Going for that warm minimalist look! 😊

Australia and UK
Australia or German, both nice.
Agreed! I think Germany just wins for me.
Germany!
Me too! 😊
UK
Toss up between us and Germany
British and the American one... the rest had an older more mature feel that's not cosy enough or inviting enough for me..
English all the way.
