- Welcome to PART 4 of the 2020 Cigar Box Guitar Builders Master Class. (Be sure to see parts 1-3). In this video we will install the pickups, the electronics and the tuners. Also included is a "POWERS OF OBSERVATION" test. I wanna see if you can spot the "problem". I will post the answer HERE on March 1st. (Hint... it was simple to fix) :-)
The answer is below if you don’t want to see it now.... otherwise scroll down

Part 3. • So.. You Wanna Build a...
The Answer is - some of you got it right !!! Some wires were routed to go OVER the neck wood instead of under. These wires would have been smashed between the neck wood and the cigar box top.
Del, you are one of the hardest working UA-camrs out there. Always great content. Really appreciate it.
thank you kindly
Excellently done!! Del!!
Thank you kindly!
You're welcome Del!! Del, I have pictures to show you of my work, I need You're knowledge.
Love this series!!!!! I have watched a lot of your other videos and I am learning more every time I see another one of your videos, please keep posting!!!!
I'm on same page bro ,on my third that makes noise but 4th will be a charm , fingers crossed ,😂
Every screw up I've made in my builds so far you have covered in this excellent series, thank you so much!
Bro pleased to meet you .But it's so hard to give up ,lol I'm on my 3rd .but not 3rd that's totally correct but they all make a noise ,4th is gonna be a charm .😂
Cool drill sound 🎸🤠
the red and black cord would be wedged between the top and the saddle. ps. you make some really good movies that I enjoy watching. Keep up with it. a big greeting from Denmark
Just built my first guitar box. Thanks for all the tips man.
Old dogs CAN learn new tricks. I just learned how to lay out my tuners properly. YEAH.........
Damn fine stuff!! Really neat tip filing those corners for the box corner protectors to sit better.
I was looking for the problem you mentioned and only caught it (I think) when you said that you’d fixed it. Ground wasn’t connected? That’s my guess anyway.
Mr Puckett, you’re a national treasure so you are!! Thanks as always for taking the time to put together this edutainment video together for us.
Dude that is a sick box
Testing the coil with a drill. Awesome.
Thank you so much. I alway learn something new from you videos.
Something about excess exposed wire, and possible shorting before the tie wrap? My best guess after one view. Love the way it's coming together! And somehow missed 3rd video, back to the annals. Appreciated!
One of the wires is over the neck instead of under...
That's my observation also!
Wires should be cut shorter as well, instead of keeping them long and zip tying them.
U da man... The CBG MASTER!!!
Love these videos. Actually helped.
WOWOWO .. super super super
More great stuff!
Cool dude! 🔥😊
Good stuff !
Great stuff! Thanks
Building my first CBG because of you.. and also because I can't play a 6 string lol 😂🤷🏼♂️ I think you cover this in one of your videos.. but spacing between bridge and pickup, is there specific measurements for that? And if you can tell me if there is a reason you chose a 6 string pickup vs a 3 string?
That test would in no way show if it was properly grounded or not. A guitar is not grounded through the amp; it's grounded through YOU. The strings pass through the grounded tailpiece and once strung up your hand on the strings grounds the guitar through you. Not grounds in the sense of sending it to actual ground but grounded in the sense that compared to the micro voltages and even more micro amps being generated by the pickups your body has near infinite potential to absorb it. You don't die while plugged into your amp because your amp's circuitry electronically isolates you from the crazy voltages and amperage floating around in your amp. If something goes terribly wrong in your amp and you get grounded through it you die.
As an aside you being the source of ground for your guitar is why you can do nifty distortion effects just by taking your hands off the strings and getting nearer and further away from a hot amp speaker ala Jimi Hendrix.
which scale length is your favorite? and why ? great series . thank you
all of them...
Do you recomend a certain brand of piezo pickup?
no they’re pretty much all the same 😎
The switch wire had to be put under the neck and then soldered to the switch the small red wire
Why ground the strings???
8:40 ... It's Eddie Van Halen!!!
Building one with just a piezo. Does it need to be grounded?
The wires for the switch are not behind the neck, and you forgot to instal your reverb spring!
Volume or tone control will hit the block under it.
I made a 12 string version that really plays and what makes it special is that it has a picture of an athlete on the front who died recently named Kobe Bryant.
What kind of fret do you use in the saddle? I suppose it's a jumbo, just like the one in the nut. Am I correct?
you certainly can - I usually decide by how high (or low) I need the action
hey del, in the last video i was asking if the piezo has to be right under the bridge or not, because i do have kinda problem with mine, bacuse i cannot put it directly underneath
I like the sound when it’s embedded in hot glue directly under the saddle... but you ‘can’ place anywhere and it should work
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar thanks so much
Hey Dell, I did a simple Piezo pickup (Piezo straight to jack), why is it buzzing? Does it need to be earthed? Or do i simply need to put more hot glue??
Piezos are... nasty .... hard to tame... temperamental ... unruly... screechy... obnoxious... good luck!!!
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar Lol yeah, you're not wrong! Thanks brother!
👍
