I am enjoying the videos! I have found that a grinder flap sander wheel works amazingly for shaping a neck. I use a 60-grit wheel and the wood just flies off. Then I have fun with the files and sandpaper. Thanks again!

I suppose if you are going into the CBG business you could buy the router and bits and get a really nice product. I just spent 15 minutes with a rasp, sanding block and a pocket knife for the areas around the neck/headstock connection and at the heel on a red oak neck. I did, however, use an ax and a chain saw on the bridge. (That mesquite tree wasn't going to cut itself down)
BTW, Del, if you would like to try some mesquite for bridges and nuts, let me know and I will send you some to play with.

My Dad, who had all these woodworking tools, taught me never set the hand plane down on the blade (@7:14). Lay the plane (block planes too) on it’s side. Agree with the comment about the draw knife vs the spoke shave. Also respect to the Amish.

I got a mighty mite for Christmas! That should speed up my fretting! First I have to make my fretting jig/sled. I use a Shinto rasp and files to shape my necks. It is very satisfying to see how quickly the rasp removes material.

Great information yet again Mr Puckett.
How many clamps do you recommend for gluing the fretboard to the neck?
“Just one more” or “how many you got?” Haha

Maybe silly question but do you need a fretboard? Why not just cut the frets in the neck? Purple Heart is a lovely wood to look at.

Love the advice. Thank you very much my friend. These videos all have helped me get a few more things in perspective. So looking forward to the next video as well. I truly think these all will make me a better builder. Still wish I could text you and get more information and opinions on why the slant in the neck and why the larger first fret is needed. Would like to pick your brain on also sanding or filing down the frets if they are just a little higher then the rest.
Sorry for rambling on but am the only one in my city making these guitars and just want to make sure I please my customers more then they have been already.

Alright the draw knife was a bad idea. As I was humming along with it BAM it took a big bite out of the middle of my neck. Spent 3 hours trying to make it disappear.
So I wanted to let you know. If you have dents it your wood, like something hit it or you dropped it, whatever.. you can hold that area over some steam and it will pop back out. Also, when you switch from file to sandpaper after your 1st sanding and before you switch to the next grit up, Wet a rag and wipe down your wood. Every scratch from the file that you missed with the sand paper will raise up. Like the hair on the back of a dogs neck, right before he bites you. That will save you some time having to go back after they show up with 320 grit.

    This series is awesome!
Just wanna share another resource for templates: www.ekips.org/tools/guitar/fretfind2d/ It's great if you want to use some odd scale length that's not so common, this thing will calculate everything for whatever specs you want.
I'm building 2 at the same time with the help of all the info on this channel! One with a 35mm film tin can, one with an actual cigar box. It's going very slow because I don't have any power tools besides a small Dremel, or a proper workshop, or much stamina to do it all by hand BUT I'm enjoying every minute of it. Carved both necks the old school way with the chisel and sandpaper and it was probably the most satisfying thing I've ever done in a hobby, no matter how much my arms hurt lol.

You failed to mention free online fretting calculators, some that allow you to print templates (such as WFRET, free software for Windows computers). CB Gitty is not the only game in town. It seems like they might sponsor you??? In addition, there are safety concerns when inhaling wood dust - especially certain exotic varieties. Your viewers might want to know where you get purple heart (hardwood suppliers like Rocker Woodworking for example). Just saying...
