Del, I love watching these videos, brother. I just finished making my third cigar box guitar (with my son), and I don't think I would have made any of them were it not for your channel. Just watching the videos is fun and kind of peaceful. I get the idea that you love the Lord (based on a few comments you've made). I'll keep watching your videos, and maybe we will connect in person when the Lord returns.
Well I was just typing a request for details on shaping a scarf joint head stock. I shoulda listened first. Now, I’ll restart the sho. Thanks Del. You answered all my questions. 👍👍👍😎
you always make it look so easy building and playing lol . I really like your posts tho , gave me many ideas on building . i just finished # 25 , 3 string ele. pick up . it maybe my best one yet . for that reason it's mine . I gave over half away to kids with problems , it seems to help them . so it's for a good reason . I just tried my 1st scarf head but it didn't come out to good . I need a better miter box and saw for a better cut . keep your posts coming we watch them .
Great video Del!! As usual! Any how, I offer a suggestion for the drill press sander. Use some 1/2 MDF and cut a 2 1/2 inch hole in the middle. The MDF can be wider and deeper than the drill press table. then glue strips of mdf to the bottom around 3 sides so the pc of MDF does not move when placed on the tabel. You will have to cut a corner out to accommodate the drill press crank. Then you have a flat surface that the sanding drum can lower into and you can maneuver your pc of wood in and out of it. Also it is good to get a sanding belt/drum cleaner at Harbor Freight to keep the sanding drums clean. That is a long pc of eraser like block. It really works good and lasts a very long time. Thank You for your vids and Inspiration!!!
Scarf joints are the way to go . Once I mastered it , Never do a build without one . Ever tried alternate body styles ? I have one thats shaped like a Explorer.
An Explorer sounds cool. I'm currently working on building one out of an old toy guitar in the shape of an Ibanez Jem with the monkey grip. With a 600mm scale length it looks pretty close to the real proportions! I'm at the point where I can paint it but can't get to the shops for primer...
I like your #4.. kinda like a Gibson and Mitchell headstock, but still unique into it's own. I'm about to start making my 1st cbg... If it should turn out to become a serious hobby as I would like to make them as gifts to all my family and friends for whom I know can appreciate one, i would then like to make all the headstocks unique. Some time soon I'll tell if I have the patience to even make just one.
I would like to see a video of you using a CB Gitty 25" scale fully Fretted neck with Basic Headstock adding a Bone Nut two Left and One Right Tuner and 3 string hard tail bridge. I am curious how you would do the neck if you would make a heal for your neck, or just use what they send with blocks under it for support and how high do you set the fret board above the box and using a Delta Bucker 3 string pre wired with tone and volume controls
Del, I save the thin veneer that comes with some of the boxes and glue it to the center headstock piece prior to adding wings to cover the scarf joint. If I'm staining the headstock or wanting it to be rustic I leave it . It's a matter of taste.
Hi Dale, Been following you for quit some time now. Thank you for all your instruction. I have been building scarf joint necks for my last 10 guitars or so. Do you still file a small groove in the jumbo 0 fret to keep the strings from moving?
Is it me or did your skills advance over the years? I noticed you had a vid that you took a stick out of the ground and now you say, tempered. Did your earlier necks warp? FYI, seems that lock down helped you cause your neck's look way different.
I love the ideas. I’ve used a foot shaped head stock on 3 of my builds. It’s a copy traced from my granddaughter’s foot when she was 5.
Nice job turning the drill press chuck into a sander.
What a great hobby to share. Thanks Del.
A VOLUTE Mr Puckett...a Lutherian Pro idea....nice one
Just gorgeous!! Watch for pix Del... soooon!!! Good to see you back in the shop! :)
Good to see you're staying busy, man. Stay healthy
Thank you! I need this little Harp.
Génial l’ami 👍 🇫🇷
Thank you! I'm on my first CBG build and watching this makes me realise: I'm over-thinking it. Just got to do what feels right.

Beatifull.....Beatifull.....Guitarrs🌈👏🎶👌🎵🛸🍀🎧👏📻👏❤️🧘
Super useful! Thank you!!

Wow, love this channel, what a find! Any chance you have kin in Texas?

at the 0:30 mark you say, "just tempered"..........what do you mean by that?

I’ve done that before.... great idea !!! Especially for covering up the scarf joint 😎
Dell your skills are amazing. Can you explain more what that pantontic plus spacing is. Is that similar to the instrument a Woodrow?

Yes I do.... cause I’m a bendy kinda guy
What size piezo is used
I’m on hiatus from building right now. We are moving to a bigger house in a month and my work area is full or prepacked boxes.
Del, great video. When do you reduce the thickness of the headstock to accommodate the tuners? Thanks.
Usually before I install the tuners 🤪
Same time I notch for back angle ... when I’m at the saw ...
Is #65 available for purchase
Hey Del! On your shorter scale necks, how many frets do you go for? Like the 19 incher in this video.
Del where do we get fretboards like that?
Build em ... 🤪???
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar lol
4:38 ... Rubenesque!!
The 6 String version would require a strong Cigar Box & Truss Rod
@Salvador Judah I meant to say stronger neck.

i’m sure anybody’s skills would advance if they applied themselves consistently 😎
i have had great success with my necks... a very few warped...that i’m aware of anyway
👍
I would have been more interested to see the scarf joint being cut... I suspect a piece of serious woodworking kit was involved.
Beauty!! TY!
Thank you too!
Wishbone, where's the coffee?
The most important thing is to make no finger punch or laceration points. Right? Unless you like bloody music.
Pinch not point. I don't like this phone.
Be careful, Del. This isolation is getting into your head.
