The covet plays are insane, man was coveting defends instead of cursed bell and memento instead of defends lol. It’s going to be really fun to see him understand how powerful that card is
Honestly feels like an oversight tbh. The relic says it applies to unplayable curses, Memento is clearly playable. (it’s probably just be that base game has no playable curses and they didn’t want to modify a base game relic to fix it)
@@WhiteKnuckleRide512the text says "whenever you play a curse lose 1hp and exhaust it" I would say it's working as intended and is just unfortunate anti-synergy for some decks.
@@WhiteKnuckleRide512 idunno, memento is just a weird card. Curses weren't really designed to be playable, but I guess they made it a curse just to give you a head start for curse builds
@ 18:54 I swear I’m not crazy lol, I saw this comment and checked the wiki and it said something different there but in game it definitely says “unplayable curse cards”
22:24 "Some passive defense would be nice. I don't know if that's the kind of thing I could get going." *he has skipped at least 2 '4-Plated Armor for 1 Energy' cards*
Tbf the description says “unplayable curses can be exhausted” when memento is clearly playable and shouldn’t be affected. The relic just isn’t programmed to actually detect that since the base game doesn’t have playable curses. So it is technically a bug, can’t blame the egg for it
I’m not a type A chatter, but if I was I would talk about how many times he used Covet to discard a strike or defend that doubles as a card draw instead of discarding his curse of the bell and exhausting it. Or how many times he *did* use it to exhaust memento instead of just discarding a strike or defend and keeping memento, which is an insanely versatile card.
I'm excited for more downfall content! I'm going to pog out of my mind the day he decides to check out the mode where you travel the spire in reverse order and fight the heroes as bosses. And this mod has so many cool characters of equal quality to the hermit too
Second one made sense, he wanted to proc ritual dagger but was 3 damage off. If he used a strike, he would’ve lost pen nib so ritual dagger would have been short again. First one was wild though.
Downfall seems pretty fun with what they have added, new character much like The Watcher seems a bit too focused in on the dead on mechanic but I haven't seen enough of the character to really know other architypes but they seem pretty cool. Good series so far and my one recomendation is to look at using Covet on curses more often as it exhausts. Very excited for rest of series though NL!
I definitely think the Hermit is much less dead on-centric than the watcher is with their stances when you actually play them. It’s always something you’ll be interacting with at least a little bit during a run, since you start out with memento, covet, and crackshot, but on most runs it’s mainly an extra bonus for playing your cards in a smart order, instead of something that completely defines the pace of a fight like the watcher stances. You can definitely lean more into it like NL has been doing these couple runs but you can also completely ignore it and be fine. The hermit’s main archetypes are dead on/concentration, curses, bruise, strikes and defends, and cost manipulation. And like all of the base game characters they can all blend between each other. This mod has like 6 other characters in it of equal quality btw, it’s insane
I am interested to see how the character pans out too. At the moment - as someone who's seen exactly 2 runs - I'm keeping my eye on Brawl. 2 Energy for a power that makes all your attacks permanently deal 5 more damage seems insane. The Silent pays 2 Energy for a power that makes all your cards deal 2 damage and is decently happy about it - as a Silent enjoyer A Thousand Cuts is one of my favourite cards - and while Bruise has the downside of not triggering off non-attacks, it also has the advantage of triggering multiple times off double attack cards, which combined with the insane 5 damage bonus seems way better. I guess it could be balanced by Hermit not having as much access to cheap attacks as Silent does, but so far it doesn't seem like Hermit struggles that much to spam attacks. I'm sure NL will play around with it enough for me to understand why it's not broken (or if not I'll eventually try Downfall out, slowly making my way to my final A20 win, Ironclad), but at the moment it looks ridiculously overtuned.
@ I could gather that bruise was an established build from this run and it actually seems pretty cool, I do think it seems very stong but wearing off after a turn seems like a fair balance for what is essentially the Silents double damage rare card if you are running low cost low damage cards. Curse also seems like an interesting build also but I doubt NL will do many runs with it as he is prone to hate taking any form of status/curse into his deck (ie look at his Ironclad runs for that). You saying that there are 6 other characters is ridiculous that is so many and is genuinely insane even if 5 of those characters are locked to the Downfall gamemode from what I gather from its steam page.
@@silverlining4561 theres actually 8 other characters, for a total of 9 added. id say only 2 of those 9 are not to the same quality, but they are still very fun to play with interesting mechanics and not low quality either. in the downfall section instead of standard you see him pick at the beginning. you should give it a go since its a free mod for sts.
@@silverlining4561 The downfall gamemode is identical to the normal game except for flavor, with some different events and completely new boss fights (which are all based around base game build archetypes, like barricade Ironclad or poison Silent). It’s more like just a separate tab for the modded characters than a different game mode tbh, hermit just happens to be the exception.
Still in the middle of the video, will he ever notice Blue Candle is making that 1 damage when he plays Memento? And then he did exactly as I was writing this comment, the timing is insane.
The funny thing is it’s still insanely busted on them, being able to exhaust curses at will as this character is crazy strong. Also it exhausting Memento is technically a bug in the first place. Blue Candles description says “unplayable curses can be exhausted for 1 hp”, but memento still gets exhausted despite clearly being a playable curse because the game doesn’t actually check for that (because the base game doesn’t have any playable curses).
Memento is considered a curse, and you have blue candle which you take 1 HP damage when you play a curse. So when you play memento (a curse) you take 1 HP damage.
For anyone curious as to why he is taking 1 damage every time he plays memento: blue candle counts it as a curse and exhausts it for 1 damage after being played. Edit: he figures it out
