    Everytime I ride my 1290 I'm sad it'll only power wheelie in the first 4 gears, I'm glad KTM is still improving this anemic powerplant.

      I’ve had my lift so many times on full chat, 6th gear of tiny bumps in the road.

      @FirstLast-ix7vh while i was going full throttle with my 3gen SDR around 200km/h hitting a bump on the Autobahn it went into a whellie, i tell you that was an expierince

      @FirstLast-ix7vh nope not at all, well never tried max out first to be honest if you want you can just launch in 2nd gear... there is enough low end power, top speed is around 300km/h but on a naked it is really an adventure to keep this speed. 5 and 6 gear are really long geared.

      @FirstLast-ix7vh Gearing is pretty long, in 6th I can ride 110km/h minimum (around 2000rpm), I almost never use 6th gear.

    There was a time where 1300cc was the top of the mountain of bike engines where only the Hayabusa dared tread without getting into cruiser territory. Then KTM makes one, puts it in a slim frame and it weighs less than an old R1. Then they decided to make the engine even bigger. I love it when insanity looks this good.

    11:26 - that's not "another downside of the electronic suspension". It's actually an upside... you go out on track, you feel what you don't like then you change the suspension with a few clicks and go out again. You can even stay on the bike and be done with it in a few seconds as opposed to having to manually change it with tools. In what world is that a downside. If you only use the bike on track sure a conventional suspension is better but this is so much quality of life for the every day user. I wouldn't want to miss it on my Tuono Factory, I cruise on the softest setting until I reached the fun roads in my are and then I switch to the stiff track mode within a few seconds. Once I'm done riding spirited I cruise back home on the softest setting. Can't beat that.

    • @AntaresSQ01
      @AntaresSQ01 11 місяців тому +3

      I'd even add to the mix that the manual is NOT better than the electronic, because you can reach the exact same settings (given the internals are almost identical) on the electronic in manual mode as the conventional suspension, but with the added benefit of being able to slap Anti-dive and anti-squat on it if you want.

    • @dernst2023atgmail

      Totally agree. The only downside is if the electronics go haywire. Otherwise its awesome!

    Whew! What a review! I'm stoked this bike came out just so we could hear Statham and Chopsie and Jezza discuss the thing. TOP presentation. And on to the bike - there is no doubt KTM have moved the bar right up. The one thing that gives me pause is the discussion that you can feel when the valve timing changes. I had a 2006 Interceptor which was supposed to be buttery smooth when the valve shift happened. Realistically, it wasn't quite. It kicked in at 7k, right about where a lot of street corner exits occur, and I didn't like the abrupt change in the torque right while I was sniffing for traction at corner exit. How much more lairy would it be on something with probably twice the torque of my 800 Interceptor? Fairly, I'd guess. I think I'll keep my EVO for now. The only time it's ever felt "lacking" was when the traction control or wheelie control were busy keeping me rubber side down. An always mental bike just became a bit more mental. Love it!

    I had a brand new 2018 1290 Super Duke with full Akra exhaust and race tune, but I replaced it with an 2019 Tuono V4 1100 Factory as it was impossible to utilize the power, wheelies everywhere. IMHO the chassis just could not handle the power. I see nothing has changed

    I come back after having watched the video. And I liked it. It will be really hard not to jump the gun, now. I almost did it with the incentives on the '23 plates (even though incentives weren't as tempting in France), and I wanted to wait and see what the '24 would bring. I found the increase in price quite steep, and it would be a hard one to justify in any case. But, you'll only live once, as the saying goes, and I could be silly enough to follow the Lamb Chops' path (pretty sure he's sold on the bike, or the other way around). It's kind of funny how much I can relate to both you and your bike-dad. Quite tempted by the Evo, myself (a load of backroads on the menu). Keep on the good work. Just to say, I own a '21 1290 SAS, and I had no problems with it, with the exception of the seat that would drop from high to low during compressions. It has been fixed, albeit after one year of waiting. Incredible engine, though, and spankings for days. Say Hi to the Baron, I can relate to his struggles, I've been there (and yes, motorbikes are of great help).
    Than you so much for bringing this state of mind to the masses, or at least keeping it alive.

    To answer the question at the start, I have a 1290 GT, I have ridden the 1290 SAS, in the SAS state of tune the engine is rather smooth from down low and the QS works rather well, on the GT/R it's extremely quick and revs out but is very lumpy below 4000 RPM especially in the higher gears, if I could get SAS smoothness but with GT/R performance, I think this is the ticket...

    Can't wait to get one of these bad boys....did a full suspension upgrade to my 2018, Ktech 25mm cartridges up front as you had no pre load adjustment, and Mupo AB1 EVO rear shock to get more swinging arm angle, bike was night and day on track compared to stock set up. Sportbike front end feel and precision, added 10mm length of shock length over stock and slid front forks up through the triples 2mm. Bike is the balls on track and I've had quite a few, can't wait to get one of these. JUST CURIOUS if the APEX PRO rear shock is length adjustable and KTM raised the rear for better the track set up????

      Not sure about this gen, but there is a company in the states that make quite a lot of stuff for track prep of the standard suspension. I am about 90kg, so need to change out the springs on my gen 3. I am also a bit worried about the full akra on track. You think it will pop the dB meter?

      You may already look this guy up.....Eric gogo Gulbransen.... He's been racing super dukes for over a decade, he has set up vids on his youtube channel for all the Gens, I used his set up Data myself and my bike is on rails, also has rear suspension links and adjustable triple clamps for the gen 3. If you want sport bike front end feel, insane edge grip and a bike that finishes turns use his set up. Either get a shock thats length adjustable or use his rear suspension links to increase swing arm angle or his rear linkage set up, lastly his adjustable triple clamps which he just produced, transforms the SDR on track to a whole new animal. As far as DB, I have the full titanium Akro on my 18 SDR which has a DB killer insert, track I go to has a stingy noise level restriction and I knew the standard Akro DB killer wouldn't cut it so I purchased another DB killer from Akro and modified it by extending the pipe that inserts into the baffle by 3 inches, worked like a charm. Not sure if the Gen 3 Akro has a DB killer or not but if it does you do what I did to knock down the DB level. Buy a DB meter they are cheap to see where youre at before and after. good luck.

    Simply Awesome! Thank you. Old school for conventional suspension settings? As someone who raced Superbikes throughout the 90’s and still do the occasional track day at my old home raceway being Phillip Island, I will take the “basic”, fully adjustable suspension over a semi-active one any day! As we are all different (even if achieving similar lap times) and will require a click or two different front and rear, that you set and forget for each track once you’ve found the best settings and also have seperate settings for a wet track. It’s predictable, with predictability, comes confidence, with confidence, comes quicker lap times. On the street, is the only place where I can see the semi active suspension potentially being a positive. However, for the additional cost, just stick with the manually adjustable suspension as it doesn’t take a lot of time to make a simply click adjustment depending on the riding conditions. If you are unsure, like most, on how to set up your suspension for your weight and riding style then take it to a professional and you will still have coin leftover to spend on tyre replacements as this new beast will wear them out at a faster rate than possible any other bike on the road. Can’t wait to test one out and perhaps make space for it in the garage. 👍😎

      @AntaresSQ01 11 місяців тому

      You're missing the humongous glaring, shining point of the fact that you can achieve the exact same settings with electronic suspension as in the manual by setting it to "manual" mode and then if you feel "ooohh rebound was a little fast here" you can just click down for the next lap without ever having to pull in, not something you can do with manual... And this is not mentioning that you can have manual AND then Anti-dive and Anti-squat on TOP of the manual mode. There is no universe where a high quality manual will beat an equally high quality electronic suspension nowadays, those days are gone.

    • @marcusgeorge1825
      @marcusgeorge1825 11 місяців тому

      @@AntaresSQ01 So your not actually talking about race pace. When you have countless laps, and typically base line settings for each track already. So come race day (unless the conditions have changed, the weather) you don’t change it during any lap as you simply don’t have the luxury of time, nor do you want to be thinking if only this and that was better. I love its adaptability on the streets, just not on a race track. Think about it from this perspective.

    • @AntaresSQ01
      @AntaresSQ01 11 місяців тому

      @@marcusgeorge1825 Still applies from that perspective too, bikes change, over the course of a race even, you have less grip with worn tyres, you can most certainly change the settings going down the straight, there is 3 manual modes, you can have the same preset, learned from the track set up at various stages of wear and fuel, you can even have 1 for "dry high grip", "dry low grip" and "wet" being able to deal with all eventualities, not at the mercy of hoping you get the setting right going from the pits. Not to mention, tracks change year to year, everytime you go there you have to use precious time in practice to find the right setting, even if it's a little different. Then there is human placebo, you think your different manual settings helped, when in fact they made no difference, because between taking that corner with the bump in the middle, and changing the settings and hitting it, 10 minutes pass, forgetting exactly what was not so nice about the previous setup. Electronic can do everything that manual can but with more convenience, faster, and a 100 times greater adaptability, not even mentioning the aforementioned bonuses such as Anti dive. Anti dive alone destroys any argument for manual suspension as you quite simply get straight up, undeniably, flat out increase in braking performance.

    • @marcusgeorge1825
      @marcusgeorge1825 11 місяців тому +1

      @@AntaresSQ01 Call me old school as I was riding when the original hype about anti dive went as quickly as it came. As you require a level of fork dive when entering any corners for so many reasons that I can’t be bothered listing. I did however say that I do love the electronic suspension on my road bikes. I just enjoy the using the knowledge required to set up any bike in the first place as even the electronic suspension comes with various limitations. Phillip Island raceway was my home racetrack and still is for the occasional track day. On one particular day I was invited to ride test back to back bikes (same bikes), one with electronic suspension and one fitted with just manual settings. Interestingly, my lap times were slightly better without the electronic suspension at play and I’ve done thousands of laps around this particular circuit spanning more than 3 decades. As an ex endorsed factory team racer I do know a thing or two when it comes to two wheels. These days I’m more involved in developing young talent and sponsorship. Perhaps best to agree to disagreeing. 😬
