FWIW usually a machete's tip is not sharpened, although I see many Americans doing so. This is done to save the sheath or scabbard as sometimes the tip will cut through with age. As the tip is rarely used for cutting one does not notice ill effects. In your case with that plastic sheath w/open bottom you should have no problem and that open end will act as a drain hole.
