    You researched and presented these top 5 French style wardrobe essentials in a lovely way. I agree with each item you had in the top 5 and would add the following: a silk scarf, sunglasses, loafers, trench coat and blazer. When I think of a well dressed French woman, I picture her wearing a white shirt, jeans, blazer, loafers and sunglasses. Just one image that I have of the impeccable French style. I am obsessed with « la marinière » and my collection extends to T-shirts and knits 😊I have the Sézane Colette Marinière in the ecru navy and ecru burgundy; two merino wool sweaters in navy with ecru stripes and black with ecru stripes; and at least 5 other striped variations. I feel wonderful when I wear this style ❤️

I feel a lot of brands have tried to do these and some fare better than others 💯 It's lovely to hear about your collection and that this is an item which really feels natural for you to wear - that's definitely a key piece and part of your style! 🧶

      And a few more hints, from wikipedia: The term blue-jeans is believed to derive directly from the French words "bleu de Gênes" or "blu di Genova" in Italian.
      The jeans fabric originated in the maritime republic of Genoa. It was reinvented in 1871 as we know it today by the tailor Jacob Davis and patented with Levi Strauss on 20 May 1873.

    Hi Lauren! Thank you for this video, I appreciate all the reference photos and background information. My favourite would be Breton style tops; I have 5 of them, in various styles. I would add a silk scarf to the list, perhaps because I love wearing scarves so much 😍. @@LaurenGraceHarding It is so hard to say which is my favourite; I do wear my knit navy with ivory stripe the most. It has three buttons on one shoulder; I bought it at Macy's years ago! I do have one that is ivory with tan stripes, and I wear it a lot in the summer. My two favourite silk scarves came from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC; their gift shop has some of the most beautiful things! 😊.

    Great video. What I read about the Breton top was that the stripes would show under the water if the sailor fell off the boat he would be easier to find. I'm confused about the Levis jeans though. I read that the denim fabric was used for mining? in France. And then that fabric was brought to the States for working in the gold mines because of the durability of the fabric. The coin pocket was there to hold their money. I guess in those days miners didn't have bills. But it's a good place for us to put our loonies, ha ha!!

    • @LaurenGraceHarding
      @LaurenGraceHarding  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Sherry! 🙋‍♀️ Yes, I read that as well about the stripes - so not just for the aesthetics but for a practical purpose too which is interesting 🇨🇵 It may have been used for mining and originated from France. I guess my approach was to look at the first most well known jeans e.g. Levis so I used some info I found on their website - another person shared the denim fabric is thought to have originated from France - so maybe we actually have the French to thank for jeans too! ❤🇨🇵👖
