Marvelous! I am grieving for my Sheltie who crossed the bridge and just stumbled on this site. He would do the same thing and argue about it!! Loved him to pieces! Shelties are special, no other breed like them!
Sorry for your loss. I’ve lost two Shelties and one Pomeranian, I believe they are up on Rainbow 🌈 Ridge playing together. My Sheltie Charlie is good even obedient when he wants to be. They are special and I adored them!
My sheltie used to do this too. If I threw a toy, she'd go after it but she wouldn't pick it up. She'd intentionally wait for me to go pick it up so she could grab it first and run off with it. It was her way of getting me to chase after her.
when i ask my dog to sit, if she isnt hungry and she doesnt see a good point in having to sit (next to a stopsign for example) she just will stand there looking at me lol
I have the exact same arguments with mine. He will drop a toy out of reach and try to make me get it for him. I will tell him to bring it closer and he will pick it up, drop it a little closer, look at me again, rinse wash repeat until it is finally within reach. Yours seems a good deal more stubborn than mine. The point of you going and getting it is you are obeying him and that will make him very happy 😀
That is too funny. Yeah, she is by far the most stubborn dog I've ever had. Haha yes, this is true .I think she likes to see what she can make her human do lol.
I have a 12 year old sheltie and a 4 year old sheltie. They do not play with toys at all but will play tug of war with their favourite blanket for hours. Like your sheltie they just do not process the fetch and retrieve concept. So funny. I am suppose to throw it and retrieve it. They just chase and show me where it is. Crazy pups but wonderful dogs. ❤️💕
:: that's not quirks, it is stubborn. I had a siberian husky. Never figured out the art of the "fetch" command, ( or any other either!). Not one to be bossed around. Wouldn't hurt anyone, except in self defense or in my defense, so I had to be careful with him.
Wow! Looks a lot like my Ovie. Long story, he now is with a family somewhere in Pensilvania.Miss him a lot. Thank you for sharing, brought back good memories.
God I miss my baby boy. The sweetest most beautiful soul I have ever encountered . Oh and so smart. But so freakin cute ! So cute I had to laugh . He was a Shellie/Jack Russell mix with some seriously tall legs white on the bottom half. He pranced when he walked. Just beautiful.
Oh my gosh he/she is just like my sheltie who goes after the toy the first time but then desides not to grab it and comes back empty handed to stare at me!
My sheltie is 9 months old and he is good and will listen to me. Then he will bark and bark at me. Like a temper tantrum. Finally taking him to obedience school. I hope he doesn't flunk out. He's so sweet, but has soooo much energy!!!
That is such a cute/fun age. When I tell mine to stop barking sometimes she'll duck her head give me a sheepish look out of the corner of her eye & continue barking. Like I'm sorry Mom but I can't stop, I have to sing the song of my people. Best of luck at obedience school. They're smart, fast learners but also very stubborn as I'm sure you're well aware.
Some call it herding, others demand barking, I say it's just a bossy sheltie! Mine does too, lol she just passed her Cainine Good Citizen test, the group thinks she's so sweet and well behaved, lol 😂😂😂
That reminds me of our beloved bi-black Sullivan (Sully). He has a big pink rabbit that we got for him when we picked him up 3 years ago. They only had pink so that's what he got. He's slept with it, pulled off both ears and the tail. He will go into his crate, pick it up, and walk through the house and out the dog door. Then he comes in and demands dad go out with him to play fetch. But he think's fetch is "dad throws it, I run and pick it up, then we play keep away until dad gets tired."
Our sheltie loved an obstacle course in the back yard. It was fun. Just used random objects set up in a "course" to jump over and run around and between. The thing is -- we needed to do the running and have him follow a few times first. He learned fast. Then we could get him to do the obstacle course by kind of walking and pointing and cheering him on enthusiastically. Now they sell backyard obstacle course setups for dogs.
Sounds like a lot of fun! I've been thinking about doing one for mine as well. I used to set up obstacle courses inside and she loved it. I think I've finally got all the equipment to build one for outside.
your boy just needs you to give him some energy-then he'll go nuts loving any game with you. He just looks bored. I've had 3 shelties and we all have so much fun playing any game together. They learned to take turns playing catch or search games. Good luck
I read my shelties mind i know what wants these dogs do not care about toys they get bored easily and want to go chase and bark zt everything that moves they are natural born sheep herders and if they do not get exactly what they want they bark and bark and walk to the nearest exit even after many miles of wLking on a dYly basis this process continues there is no escape but still i understznd dogs well and i love them all shelties are not a danger to animals or humans they are rough but kind and caring and loving so too are all animals that are loved respect is so wonderful between both humans and animals

Of course, they are so similar in features if their bodies, but much, much more. Thank you for posting this video on UA-cam, I’m so happy to see it. I'm so sorry you lost your dog, that is such a painful thing to go through. Thank you for the kind comments & bringing awareness to them having gallbladder issues. I had no idea that was a thing.
@@dogonadventures Neither did I before it happened. Found a woman on one of the sheltie forums with 6 shelties. She does proactive ultrasounds when they become middle-aged and 4 of her 6 shelties have gallbladder sludge. It's shocking. If you catch it early enough, they can remove the gallbladder before the dog shows symptoms. If we get another sheltie, we will do the same. I don't know if you watch 'The Cricket Chronicles' on UA-cam, but their older sheltie Cricket had hers removed last summer. They're now actively researching why it's happening so often with this breed. I always mention it when I see someone with a sheltie because maybe it will help raise awareness as something to keep an eye on. Best wishes!
I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for this information. I have had three Shelties and was not aware of this. I will be proactive. Wishing you peace.
She wants you to go with her to get it. Mine was the same way. He'd fetch the ball 5-6 times and then suddenly stop and do this. And he sounded exactly like your sheltie. The snorts, moans and grunts.
Must be a sheltie thing. Mine generally wants me to go fetch the item though, while she stands there & watches me which kinda defeats the purpose of playing fetch lol.
We read that this is common in shelties, no interest in fetch. But our sheltie loved tug of war. And loved hide (me) and seek (sheltie). Or Hide the Treat > Show a treat / toy in my hand. Then tell sheltie "stay here, repeat". Then go hide the treat in another room. Wait a minute or so.... then say "Okay - go find it!" Loved that game.
She loves those games too. She likes to play fetch when she instigates it & usually it begins with a game of keep away then she'll finally drop the ball and want me to throw it & usually after a couple minutes she's done playing fetch & wants to move onto the next game.
What an adorable sheltie. Our sheltie, Milo will be 4 in June. He does this sort of thing with my wife when he wants something. It always makes me laugh.
I never realized that other sheltie owners had the same conversation with their shelties. Kai and I used to have the same conversation when we'd play. Lol Same here, I'd never realized it either. Mine will bark at me also if I don't listen & do as she says so I tell her not to yell at me & the argument continues.

Ahyoka Star says hello (osiyo ᎣᏏᏲ) friend (tsunslii ᏧᎾᎵᎢ). Before Ahyoka, I had a mini Aussie Shetland sheepdog mix and boy she was a talker! Loved to argue. I always thought that Aussies talked a lot then I got Sunny D, then I realized that Shelties were the real jabber jaws! Beautiful baby. Enjoy the baby. I miss my Sunny D everyday.
Hello, to you & Ahyoka Star. I'm sorry I didn't see your comment sooner. They certainly are talkers & wonderful dogs! I'm sorry you no longer have sunny D. I hope your other dog brings you much happiness.
@@dogonadventures Ahyoka Star does bring me much happiness. As a matter of fact that is what her name means. Ahyoka=she that brings happiness ( or ) the one that brings happiness ( or ) bringer of happiness. Oh of the 6 Aussie or Aussie mix Ahyoka Star and Sunny Day (D) Sundance have been the very best of the bestest! Back to back awesome fur babies. I miss Sunny D everyday, but I have Ahyoka to help heal my heart. Give a big hug to your fur baby for us! Sorry it took so long to respond, we have had a bit of a bad time, I had a kidney stone attack and Ahyoka Star was attacked by two dogs ( a German Shepherd, and pitbull mix ) and injured. We are now both recovering slowly!
Rule #1: Shelties will not play fetch. If you throw a ball and If (a big if) the sheltie runs after it and picks it up the sheltie will drop the ball after bringing it back close enough in its own opinion.
If you REALLY knew Shelties….you’d realize how much content there actually is in this video! Watch how he reacts to her talking with him. He’s saying ALOT! The personality exhibited is priceless. And this is how these discussions go with a Sheltie. Ours was exactly the same and this brought back so many memories (& almost tears) since we lost our “Boo Bear” to Cushings disease last March. So smart, so loyal, so faithful and especially, so loving!
I'm sorry, I don't know how I missed this, but thank you for your comments. I'm so sorry your dog passed away. I hope you've been able to find some peace.
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you're successful soon in finding one. I don't know if you've tried this or not but sometimes places have rescues for specific breeds or a mother dog & her puppies might get dropped off at a shelter both usually have online listings. Other than that we just kept searching breeders on line.
Any video with a Sheltie is great. They are such ‘characters’. Beautiful fur baby.
Thank you. They sure are.

I'm sorry for your loss. Even though it was almost 3 years ago it's still sad. Lol they do like it when we're active with them it seems.
Piękności!❤❤❤
My shelties wasn’t fond of the fetching game either ‼️
to be TOTALLY honest i did do and/or PROBABLY will SOMEWHAT like shelties
Rule #1: Shelties will not play fetch. If you throw a ball and If (a big if) the sheltie runs after it and picks it up the sheltie will drop the ball after bringing it back close enough in its own opinion.
I feel like my Sheltie thinks it's her job to make sure the ball doesn't run away 😂 Runs after it, then once it's lying still she guards it for me
That's not Lassie. That's Sassie.

That is not a sheltie that is a collie
Nope, she's 100% a sheltie
Stubborn can translate to miscommunication issue. I'm sure you two can get past this.
If you really want her to go get it put a piece of cheese next to it 😅
Fetch dog is broken today try again later 😂❤
🤣
how old is he?
Just turned 7
not much content here. pretty dog though.
Thanks for the comment & feedback. I will be working on making more interesting & better content as I learn editing, come up with more activities etc.

They are sassy
Oh my gosh, so sassy!
I’m having a really hard time finding a Sheltie puppy. I live in Hawaii. Can any of you Sheltie lovers and Face book friends help me out????🕊🐶🦴
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you're successful soon in finding one. I don't know if you've tried this or not but sometimes places have rescues for specific breeds or a mother dog & her puppies might get dropped off at a shelter both usually have online listings. Other than that we just kept searching breeders on line.
