Quick tip: I buy my sand from Home Depot. It’s a 50lb bag for $5. I believe it’s called play sand or something to that effect and I love it. Or I also buy my sand from tractor supply which is like $10 for a 50lb bag and it’s black and it’s called black diamond blasting sand I think.

Maybe you would want to look into anoxic filteration. Most bio filters just stops at the nitrates level. Of which most aquarists will have to resort to water changes to reduce the ever rising nitrates levels. In anoxic systems the nitrates are converted back to nitrogen gas by another group of bacteria which are living in very low oxygen level zones. A plenum or an undergravel filter plate should make your 125 more stable and lesser water changes. A coarse pvc netting can prevent your cichlids from digging up your substrate. My aquariums are doing great after I used the anoxic system

The power head isn’t necessary. If you want the filter to be more efficient with getting the pollution out of the gravel, all you have to do is adjust the filter intake hose so that it’s closer to the bottom gravel.

I had a love hate relationship with that filter. It worked beautifully, but would leak like mad. I kitty litter tray underneath was enough to catch little leaks before any big issues happened MOST of the time, but when she had a fit, she would tantrum hard and fast.

One thing I would advise you to add to the stand. Add 4 more 2x4's on the ends. 1 one each leg, where the front and back long runner board connects to the side pieces. That is the only weak spot you haven't addressed. In that spot the aquarium is resting its weight on the 4 screws unlike the middle that is supported. Other than that the stand looks awesome. Keep up the awesome work and enjoy watching your videos.

Hi Carson….great job on that tank stand…..you have a great drive like I did in my younger years!!….you can get a boot and shoe tray for the bottom of the stand and then you won’t get the carpet wet!…I think two would do the trick!!….love the place o!! They are super and easy to care for..algae food they love!!….you decorate like my brain thinks….if I were a fish type, what would I love in there with me?..lol….wood grain contact paper is great, tape it to the edges of the glass using packaging tape…it comes in two widths, can trim with a razor blade…you will have hours of silent entertainment for the p.m. hours!!..I used to sit at night and watch them in dim lighting…so restful after a busy day!?..keep up the sweet habitats!! Good luck!!👍👍👍❤️talll twisted grasses in three spots will add hiding places and a natural feel for them to relax and grow also!!…super sweet…the bigger the expanse the better I sayM

Looking good. But I would only use 1 of your fine pads at a time. Once water passes through the first fine pads most of the fine particals are already caught. So just use the others as backup. Also I would trash the bio balls and pack that thing out with as much lava as you can. Biological filtration is by far the most important. Lava rock is ok but if you are feeling rich try biomome ultimate. It is very expensive but it really is good stuff. I have a 220gallon discus tank and I use it on that tank. When you have alot of expensive live stock why cheap out on the bio media.

🤔 Those filters only pump half what they advertise. They have a tendency to leak at the gasket , I did the UV bulb and the clasp will break because they are so thin.
You would do well to put the filter in a tote to catch the water when it leaks. Also keep the gasket lubed and don’t open it too much.
Side note: would of been a good idea to use some clear coat after the black paint. The wood will still absorb water without it.
