It's the fact that these kids are actually stanning the CEO and defending her constantly that tells me all I need to know. Kpop fans are so desperate for an angel company to pop up that they'll ignore any and all red flags.
Hyuna's lyrics in BABE are haunting. She so perfectly described the creepiness' of the infantilization in Kpop. she was forced into dancing intimate with another male idol for "Troublemaker" as a minor by cube as well. Funny, BABE never did chart well either. I bet a lot of fans couldn't stomach to look themselves in the mirror since she was probably signing about a lot of them along with the industry.
This song literally gives me goosebumps when I hear it, like in an uncomfortable way. Thing is because of the beat, the lyrics go over some people's heads and they basically say you're misunderstanding the lyrics. The lyrics doesn't mean what it does, it means something entirely different.
What are your thoughts on people dismissing the messages in the song because she said it was just about dating a younger person? It seems plausible due to her relationship with Dawn but the imagery and especially the lyrics make it almost impossible to not see it from the exploitation angle.
@@OdeToAphrodite it's clearly not that, I don't think she would speak about him having a "creepy smile", and the video makes the message very clear, the music fades and she walks out when the lyrics get to the age she debuted, like... people who deny it just WANT to "miss the point"
@@markly5460 Exactly!!! I get so annoyed at how during 2017 it was more of a general consensus that it was about the exploitation she faced as a minor from the industry but then the news about her relationship came out and suddenly everyone tried to gaslight you into thinking it was about that. Like you said, calling your lover's smile "creepy" would be unusual and out of place, specially in a love song. But people come up with all kinds of hazy explanations to dismiss the underlying themes of BABE and paint it as a completely innocent feel good song about falling in love with someone.
dude i had Always assumed she did troublemaker as an adult, because OF COURSE. that song is known for its adult theme. even covering rn is seen as too sexual im baffled. i never imagined smbd could greenlight this with a minor involved
It’s so weird seeing JYP’s creepy stare just watching minors dance semi sexualized moves and songs wtf. It was even weird to me when Twice on sixteen were dancing Hush on a bar swinging their hips knowing how suggestive the song is and how young Tzuyu was. Like how can JYP look at that and think it’s okay
I watched Sixteen when I was around 14-15 which is when I started listening to Twice. Now I'm almost 20 and I don't think I can look at Park Jinyoung's creepy reactions anymore
@@monoceros.9310 as the fact he had connection to R. Kelly makes it even clear that he is in fact a creep. He literally introduced Wonder Girls (Sunmi was a minor) to R.Kelly and I believe it was at his home too🤢🤢
Taemin debuted at 14, and if you go back and watch variety shows from that era, he was feminized and sexualized as a joke on variety shows. He was dressed as a girl and older men would sing to him and kiss him and talk about how they would date him if he was a girl. They would all laugh while he was clearly uncomfortable. Even when not dressed as a girl, his styling was very feminine. There's no wonder he struggles with anxiety and depression now.
the moment he turned 18, they made him pose shirtless for a picture featured on the sherlock album, and guess who did the concept for it? MIN HEEJIN, CEO of ador and creator of New Jeans, lol what a surprise
@@markly5460 The one of him with the grape is so disturbing. He looked like a child- no more than 14 or 15, regardless of age. I don't think he started looking like an adult until Your Number/View.
!!!! i'm glad to come here and see someone mention this raced to the comments to bring it up smfh i'm glad people are opening their eyes a bit more. now if only things would change sooner than later..
Honestly Im kinda mad that so many naive kpop stans that think that every grown ass man that comes to see idol girls at fan signs are the exception that they just love the music
As an older kpop fan, I have mixed feelings about this comment... I have the instinct to think this way as well, but my hubby and I got into kpop in our 20s. We're now "vintage millennials" and still love kpop, but I spose I have never been to a fan signing. Yet, I don't know that older fans should be demonized for it, either. At the same time, when NewJeans had a fan event where they were servers at a cafe, several older men were in the crowd waiting for them and I was giving them the side eye. I saw a TikTok where a son gave his mom a light stick for an EXO concert, she looked pretty old, but was so excited that she ended up crying at the concert while holding her light stick up. I think pretty much everyone that it was just adorable. So, we can't treat older women as if it's cute when they get that into kpop, but demonize all men for it, but again, my instinct is to be judgy about it when it comes to men, too.
@@NickaLah i agree there is a double standard but its a double standard based in reality. men are more likely to be sexually abusive and violent in general by a long shot (i think the number is around 80%) and the average male watches porn like its part of their daily routine and so much so that issues of sexual function such as erectile dysfunction, is increasingly effecting men younger and more in frequency. a lot of men especially older men engage in watching pornographic material that sexualises minors. why do you think bella dellephine was so popular? i care more about the physical and mental wellbeing of young people in this industry more than i ever will about the feelings of men and this is completely fair. i dont think its being biased at all and ofcourse we condemn women with the same predatory behaviour such as the creative director for hybe, i think shes disgusting for sexualising minors for profit and should not be allowed around them so really, we shouldnt focus on the specifics for the purpose of catering to peoples feelings, lets just focus on the real problem and i think op's comment is very very true. (i could also bring up the fact that s koreas views on womens rights is very outwardly misogynistic and proudly "anti-feminist" and that date rape, roofies, and filming women in private spaces such as change rooms and toilets are the norm there so that should further prove my point on the minds of south korean men due to what theyre used to seeing and engaging with in their social culture.)
Its so hard to judge whenever we see people lick their lips , like yeah it so creepy. But you know, I myslef have a dry lips and my seatmate would labeled me as creepy which is offensive for me. Like he doesnt know what im thinking. But I understand when it comes to some men licking their lips in purpose when seeing someone
Min Heejin is gross, period, no normal adult has s3xual pictures of children on their walls, and she has faced zero real repercussions cause getting called out online doesn't affect her if ppl keep giving her money, I just really really hope the girls are okay
Literally saw a comment saying "young idols have been debuting since 2nd gen, why is there a problem with it now? And these idols decided to debut themselves". 🤦♀️
A group a lot of people don’t talk about is nct dream who debuted with ages 14-17. Some of them didn’t even finish high school because of idol life and since their debut they have been worked to the bone (mark and haechan especially). Apparently SM has a new rule that you need to be adult to debut new (hence why aespa were all adults or nearly adults when they debuted) but there needs to now be a rule on training age too. Like some of these idols train for so long and for so many years, they get their childhoods robbed from them. It’s not fair.
exactly! even boa has talked abt how debuting so young fucked up her physical growth due to the dieting she had to go through while still developing 😭😔
To be fair it’s pretty common for idols minor or not to drop out of school whether to debut or train and didnt have a childhood. It’s not just an NCT Dream thing. Also didn’t the members all complete their education though. The ones who dropped out of school, had private tutors and got their GED. Aside from the members expressing their regrets of not having friends their age as teens/kids, I do find a tiny bit of comfort that they said they did have a couple of staffs that really kept a tight eye on them who they’ve said guided them a lot, give them advices, watch out for them etc. Plus they have a lot of older members in NCT who became sort of their big brother figures to help them navigate their lives as idols. And perhaps bc of that the members somewhat turned out better than most kpop idols who debuted as a minor. At least from what we see. Still felt icky to me though when they first debuted even when I was as young as Chenle back then.
@@mistertaxi2011 depends on interpretation I guess. I dont really seeing it as serious as student-teacher relationship cause there wasn’t even one. It’s just some students having a one-sided dumb passing crush while some are just doing it for shits & giggles imo. And the teacher didnt do anything to encourage them or initiate anything. The lyrics are also not implying anything. Check out NC.A’s My Teacher Student for a kpop comparison that’s way more questionable esp when it comes to lyrics. She was also a minor when this song was released
4:12 I never knew this happened with Mamamoo thats really messed up. Also hearing RyuSera say the girls cried being 18 and forced into the sexy concept broke my heart and it makes me realize how blind we are. Any fan today would defend 18 as an adult but obviously it's still too young. Those girls were hurt physically and mentally and it's sickening.
That's true. In the comments of a video talking about how NMIXX'S Sullyoon rejected a 24 year old man when he asked her out on a date people were saying it was ok for him to do that just because she's 18. Umm, last time I checked 18 year olds were still developing psychologically and the difference between 18 and 24 was still pretty significant. Six years of difference in experience is quite a lot when the younger person is barely entering "legal adulthood". Had she been 17 people would have jumped at that man's throat, but sure, a few months of difference will totally turn you into a fully mature grown up 😒.
@@OdeToAphrodite just to add up, 18 year olds are minors in SK, so Sullyoon was a minor when that happened, that's also why Ryu Sera was so uncomfortable with her members wearing those clothes
@@markly5460 Yeah I forgot the legal age in Korea is 19 but imo that's still too young. And people were using the fact it happened in the USA to justify his actions, as if it changed anything 😟.
OMG THE LOLITA REFRENCE TOTALLY WENT OVER MY HEAD. Sunmi is literally such an amazing artist! The dancing point mimicking sucking her thumb makes sense now too. I remember being blown away when she referenced pans labyrinth in Noir.
Omg. This went over my head as well. I’m a grown ass adult and I cannot believe I missed this. “Sucking her thumb” omg. Companies can’t do this anymore.
Same with Niki and Jung won . “Fever “ is literally a sexy song with suggestive choreography . I have seen so many people sexualising them and making creep comments and fanfiction . They came to Los Angeles and literally womens who look like above 25 and above 30s trying to get close to them .
the stuff about the clothes is so important (the part of Sera of 9Muses) because people is like "well they are 18 so they can wear, they are an adult" but like the stylist and the company waited until they were (they as in general for idols) 18 so they could put them on revealing clothes, i wouldn't what the idol wear off-stage but unless they choose it, what the company make them wear is because of a reason and to attract certain type of people
this is why it always irks me when these kpop fans would say shit like "bring grown women back" whenever someone is (over)praising past hit songs like miniskirt. they clearly weren't around when this era happened those "grown women" where basically all sexually exploited for a few bucks; they had no choice but to dress and act sensually and perform to the music (stellar, spica, hello venus, aoa, to name a few examples). this trend went on from 2012/13 all the way to 2018, when the 4th gen debuted and became popular with the "teen crush" concepts (thanks gidle!). even non-sexy concepts were filled with either MV with really weird shots, like somi's cleavege in dream girls (this girl was like 15!) or momoland's yeonwoo and nancy being dressed with really short pants, showing their whole buttocks in a song whose concept was supposed to be fun and fresh (damn, poor nancy was recorded naked and that video was leaked to the public! absolutely alarming) the situation is even more severe when you realize how conservative the general population in Korea is. these girls were raised to be "ladies" and then got dressed with short clothing and thrown on a stage with a public comprising of grown men ready to openly lust on them; and then get hated on for being too "provocative", called sluts, and being banned from music show , reducing their already uncertain success. imagine how a girl who got raised to be a more "conservative" and "appropiate" woman would feel when she's in this situation without any saying or desicion, knowing that her future depends on her silence.
This is so true cause I've seen people blame the lack of sexy concepts these days on the fact that so many idols are young as if that's ever stopped some of these companies.
Right I honestly hated those time in kpop. I remember when Simon and Martina when they used to do kpop commentary, question why Hyuna was popping her butt and dancing on the floor when she was underaged in ‘Mirror Mirror’. They even had a whole pedo theory for Seungri’s VVIP MV.
Man, I hate when stans bring up miniskirt as an example of good era or whatever, like Chanmi was literally 17??? There's a whole child doing that choreo????
I recently saw a clip BTS of Le Seraffin and Sakura was crying talking about how she is not in favor or diet restrictions forced by the company. Like literally her voice was breaking and she was having a hard time communicating but still she took courage and did it
Seriously I cried while watching this video. I started with kpop in 2013 and tbh at the beginning I didn´t really see the problem. I was young and ignorant but since a few years (four or five) i see this problem and it get´s bigger and bigger. Minors have to dance in a sexual way and you are so right to say that company wanna throw the problem to us. But it´s not true. They know what they are doing. They know it when these idols dance like that, use words in their song texts or have revealing clothes. And I can´t enjoy it. Minors should always be treated as minors because we need to protect them. They are kids. It makes me so sad. Every kpop fan should watch this video.
If it makes you feel better, I don't think it's about you being young and ignorant, I've been into kpop since 2008 and even though I was already in my 20s then, I haven't often picked up on things that younger people have noticed. I think as time goes on we've just all become more aware of things that are problematic, and are more sensitive (I mean this in a good way) to the kinds of power older men can have over young women or girls.
We appreciate you talking about this topic since is very concerning, specially because younger idols are so vulnerable and struggling on this very competitive industry. I remember when Yeojin from Loona debuted at 14 and her solo is about consent (Kiss later), the thing is that she had to wait almost a year for group activities because she was too young at the time but then I see these 13 year olds debuting and keeps me wondering if the debuting age is gonna be lower and lower. Also seeing minors doing sexualized dances makes me feel uncomfortable tbh.
having been a kpop fan since late 2013-early 2014, it's almost laughable seeing new kpop stans become so defensive of this and accuse everyone of only making it a problem *now* i've seen the reaction to enough group debuts and comebacks to know that companies *want* people to do their dirty work for them by telling everyone that "they're just misunderstanding" and that "they're the one's sexualising by seeing the sexual undertone and innuendos". i mean that new jeans cookie statement was textbook gaslighting (shifting blame to fans, feigning ignorance, shifting the topic of the argument, getting angry for fans being worried about the members etc.) if you have ever defended the idea of newjeans debuting as young as they are in an industry known for exploitation, sexualisation, and abuse; *YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM*
I’ve been sort of into kpop since 2008 and people have been uneasy since then, but like everyone who is concerned for children in the entertainment industry they’ve been buried under comments like “bleeding heart liberals” “the age of consent is x” “what about jpop” “it’s their culture, stop trying to force American standards on them” and more recently “well they’ve already debuted, you should support their dreams” “not every adult into them is a p*do” etc. There’s an infinite number of stupid, dismissive comments and literally nothing ever changes and it is so insanely frustrating.
Kpop idols should debut at 18, I blame the company and the parents for allowing their child to be sexualised at age 14 or lower its makes be physically sick
Kpop has this weird thing of calling idols who debut at the proper age as ahjussi or ajumma and the same people express 'fake' concerns when minors are exploited
The fact that the general public (kpop stans) are not lashing out and spaming hate comments against this repulsive companies and producers it's unnaceptable. They are too busy trowing hate at "pick me girls" instead 😒
not only the companies! the fans call you a pervert when you are brave enough to point out something that's it's illegal!!!!!!!! thank you so much for the video!!!
A recent video of Newjeans fan meet got posted online and it was nothing but 20 to 40+ year old men there. After Ditto’s success they definitely gained a lot more older male fans and it’s very disturbing.
True.....even a particular groups fan who know the group from its debut or even before if called out their dark side in any comment section he or she will get BASHED UP by the NEW STANS cause they don't known the whols reality ........
What The Hecks were THEY NOT THINKING 🤔 💭 ? More like it. I mean, to say, anyone who has ever had a brain 🧠 to think or a mind that sees it, knows how much it affects you all. (Basically they hav no brains but we do have a brain and it is revulsion to see that happening).
When I first saw pictures of New Jeans something about them creeped me out. They look like children playing dress up. Then I saw how old they are. My daughter is a year younger than their youngest member. Nope, nope, nope.
It pisses me off how these creepy men/women (AHEM MIN HEEJIN) get away with their creepy behaviour (most) and also in Mixnine YG was so weird when casting you just need to watch it to see like…they’re all weirdos and when they get called out WE get called pervs for thinking that way????
Thank you for this! I'm so fucking sick of companies and fans acting like this is okay. I think many of the fans defending it are minors themselves, so they don't really see the problem with it, but its really appalling seeing the adults who let this shit slide. I mean how many more horror stories do we have to hear before we realize that children are just not built for this. Regardless of how talented and "ready to debut" they are, they are not mentally prepared for the scrutiny of the public eye or the grueling schedule that comes with being an idol. It's too much for most adults to handle well, but you think the 14 year old had got it under control??? Cmon now
Those adults only care about making money, whether it's the CEOs, managers, producers, or parents. The idol is just a tool for them to make money off of.
this topic is infuriating, it really makes my blood boil, I'm the same age as Bts Jungkook and i stan them since 2013, I remember being all busy with school but living after all as a 15 year old, while he was already working, I didn't got the severity of it and I took inspiration from him as an economic crisis hit my household, but now that I'm older I see that neither one of us should've work since that young age, but at least I got to live my teenage years, the most awkward and troublesome years, in private and to some point safe; it's really heartbreaking to me, and when i search for a group and see that the older members are 3 to 5 years or more younger than me it makes me sick to my stomach... also thank you for clearing about the im fearless choreo (the wap part) when the mv came out I had to double take because i couldn't believe it, I tought it was a coincidence, but sadly no.. I even commented about it on twt but got a lot of backlash from people saying that i wanted to "boycott them as well" like ??? to the point were I had to delete the post because it went out of control (as always in kpop twt...)
7:38 I think this is what is so infuriating about it, the gaslighting companies do and also some fans do "Theres nothing wrong with this, YOUR the pervert for making it that way" it makes me wanna pull out my hair
Like most parents who let their young children be in showbiz, they don't care about them. They only care about the money they will bring to the family and not about the well-being of their child.
it really is so disgusting that people stan newjeans despite knowing the reality of their concept via min heejin and her blatant perversion toward minors. and any time someone voices discomfort with newjeans, fans will viciously attack them and accuse them of “hating girls who are just having fun” and “jumping on the girl group hate train” when it really is so much more than that. sorry i dont want to listen to a bunch of 14 year olds sing about how they want fans to “eat their cookie” …
Wow I'd heard the controversy about Le Sserafims dance break but didn't really get it until I saw the choreo ripped straight from WAP. Why would hybe make kids do that? Why are they selling Lesserafim like a quick gimmick for media attention.
Jk said that he wished he had a childhood and i can only agree with him. What infuriates me is people who are outraged by kids working in textile industriy but not by those who are overworked by the ent. Industry. Make it make sense!
Hey. Thank you for speaking out on this topic. I really feel like it should be talked and spoken more and more! It's a real effing issue. Da fuck is it normalized for? Why would the public want this? It's sad. These minors and children should be protected and laws should be taken more and more into consideration, if not legislated yet. But I feel like since the kpop industry is bringing in $$$ they want to ignore it. It's disgusting. Yet again, thank you. This reminded me of also Taemin debuted at 14 and he's going through shit in military and throughout all his career, really.
this is one of the reasons why i don't stan any 4th gen groups now. heck, i don't even stan the ones whose members have reached legal age. aside from the decrease in song quality (in my opinion), i see nothing appealing or cool abt stanning a group of KIDS. if ppl keep on excusing and allowing this to happen by supporting the groups, next thing we know they're gonna debut more and more groups with members whose baby teeth haven't even fallen out 😭😭😭😭
Same! I mean, i’m seventeen, but idols nowadays are debuting at 13-14 y/o, which is pretty crazy. 😬 Even if their concept is more cute and innocent, it’s obvious that they are selling the “innocent child-like idol” while sneaking in suggestive lyrics/shots/outfits/choreos/etc to attract as many creeps as possible. They aim for a specific demographic to get as much revenue as possible.
I just wish that Kpop idols have their own freedom to express their own creativity instead being exploited by companies because the treatment they receive from companies such as HYBE, SM, JYP, etc is disgusting.
I cant really listen to Cookie by Newjeans. The lyrics are obviously leading to sexual context. The company tried to defend so hard and people are ignoring it saying that the song came out famous. I like their talents too but the problem should be addressed. No only New Jeans. Eunchae, like other minor idol, is still very very young to wear those revealing clothes.
Wow this broke my heart. I hate how we are all stuck in the middle… like I really want to support and love the talent idols bring to the table but I’m also torn in not wanting to support the disgusting companies that literally don’t care for them and just the money.
On the surface I see people defending kids being idols but they don't ever stop to realize most of their favorite idols starving to death right now or already dead started as minors. Adult men and women making children their biases are CREPY THATS NOT NORMAL. Especially when those kids are twerking and hip thrusting in school girl outfits in their choro. I get other 16 and 18 year olds being into the newer 4th gen because they're the same age. But a lot of us from the 2nd gen are married or in our late 20's-30's. You can like any album you want, but idolizing children in groups is weird af if you're over 18.
that's why I've never nor will ever like hybe's new gg. it feels icky to me. I'm a 16 yo male and shit even if i have never listened to a newjean's song before, just reading the lyrics make me feel disgusted
I still don't know how people are enjoying listening to COOKIE .....the song might be catchy for its beats to some people but it is straight up disturbing ..just imagine a group of minors singing those type of lyrics .. The producers exactly knew what they were doing . Recently we have also noticed how HYBE is doing noise marketing alot from lee serafirm to new jeans . YOU are very real to say the RED FLAGS , I saw alot of comments saying " this song traumatized me after knowing the lyrics " but still they do nothing about it and continue to listen it . It's hard for me to stan a group of minors singing and doing all that stuff . I think the only 4th gen kpop group I am most likely to stan will be aespa fr ...
I'm glad to see this issue being spoken about, because some fans truly have become complacent plus the ages are only getting younger and younger. When New Jeans came on to the scene for example till now I remain uncomfortable, then when I saw the way certain fans comment about them online my discomfort only grew more because it's nothing short of p*rverted. Creepy even. I feel the same way when younger members within groups are s*xualized or given the most revealing outfits, thing is if you voice your opinion you're a hater who doesn't want to to see the idol be successful or something to that nature. It's not that, it's that these children are being exploited and they need to be protected. Some of us fans are genuinely concerned, but some fans refuse to acknowledge these issues. 🙃
I was really surprised here at Sunmi's reference to Lolita. I really didn't connect the dots, because I remember seeing her MV and thinking there was some kind of familiarity, but I never thought about Lolita.
The heck.. This is really disgusting.. I've only heard of new jeans on twt, being hyped by so many big accounts.. I didn't know they have that lyrics.. I'm appalled at the lack of discussion
I became a Kpop fan in 2017 when I was around 14. I was young and didn't really think too hard about some of these topics, but now as a 19 year old rewatching some MVs, variety shows and clips that went over my head in the past makes me uncomfortable. Like, before I would watch minors like me perform on stage and just focus on the song, but I can now say that the clip of that 11 year old dancing with JYP and YG watching made me cover my eyes and look away in disgust
As a adult in k-entertainment, i can't avoid to feel unconfortable. As the time pass, new groups are relesed but more and more younger, finally mature fans still here but they know the rules, standars and have money so they can criticise about weight, apperance or skills, meanwhile the teenager public are discovering this world and can´t undertand why X idol has been bullied, eventually they will learn and a new cycle will began.
I cried seeing this. Imagine being at an age where you're just young, lost and figuring out the way the world works and suddenly you're treated like a sexual object before even developing a personality and the confidence to be a full grown secure adult. Hybe calling the lyrics and concept a mere coincidence is absurd. Why is pedophilia and sexualising minors so normal in the Kpop industry ? The world is scary. This might come of strong but I'd rather see artists like New Jean's disband than be a part of this highly sexualised capitalistic cult :)
this happens because society loves young people. society is more inclined to pay attention to fresh, young faces - specially in Asia. That's a fact, not an opinion.
I hope this video blows up, because I think its important to talk about. Before I start seriously listening to a kpop group's music or watching their content, I now have to check that none of the group members are still minors, because I don't feel comfortable supporting groups until all of the group members are adults, but its getting harder and harder to avoid as companies start debuting idols younger and younger. I'm still surprised that despite all of the controversy with New Jeans they are getting so much attention. People love to complain about minors debuting but then buy albums and stream MVs, which only supports the companies that are exploiting them. I'm glad you included people like Jennette McCurdy too talking about being a child star. After seeing a video by Alyson Stoner a little while back on child stars and their working conditions, I decided to stop watching any media involving children (at least in prominent roles, its almost impossible to not have a child background actor or two). I'm not really sure what else to do as a consumer besides just trying to be careful about what artists/companies/media I support. I also just think s*xualization in kpop is weird overall...like even for adults. How different is 18 to 17 really? I think about when I was 18, and I was still a kid, really. I was still quite immature and impressionable, and I didn't really feel like an adult until I was 22/23. Why is it okay to s*xualize someone that is 18? or 19? or even 25? How about we just don't do that at all? Why not just enjoy the music, the choreography, the artists personalities? Honestly it makes me feel very ethically conflicted about supporting kpop in general. Regardless of whether or not an idol is 18, there are so many idols taken advantage of, forced into uncomfortable situations, forced on restrictive diets, forced to work long hours...it just doesn't sit right with me. Really the only kpop group that I actively support these days is ATEEZ, because I thought KQ seems to treat them very well and is a good company to support, but now KQ Fellaz 2 has some members that are still 16 and I don't feel good about that.
You did such a good job pointing out all these important facts. Honestly, I am sickened by the industry. I saw NewJeans, and I want to support the girls, but I find it so hard, especially after listening to their songs, and seeing the whole Min HeeJin controversy. The sad thing is, if a fan wanted to “support the group” the way they’d have to do that is to listen and stream and support all their activities for them to reach popularity. And if they don’t, then the company forces even more sexulization, pressure, and abuse onto the idols. But if there is support, then there tends to be more of that as well, since the company wants to draw on that success. So either way, it’s a never ending cycle for the idols. Then they have their childhood, innocence, privacy, and mental health forcible ripped away, when that’s not what they signed up for. If these children want to be idols to sing or dance, let them sing or dance. But if they want to become idols, they should only really “debut” when they’re adults, and I think if they debuted as adults in Korean age, that’d be way better. I honestly think there should be an age limit to auditioning and training as well. They should have least finished their education, and made sure that an idol life is the path they want to follow before they do it. “K-pop” and the “entertainment industry” in general has brought many good things into the world, but at what, and who’s, cost?
Even in an industry like kpop, which seems to be treated like a major cultural export for SK, there is still reliance on exploiting child labor in some of the worst ways possible. I just wish more fans knew and didn't turn a blind eye to it. I feel like a lot of the fans who defend issues in the industry are deep in their echo chambers and use that to lie to themselves about it a little more.
i don't think companies know how dangerous it is to make minors debut. They think making 20 yr olds debut sucks because they're prolly " too old " or they just don't like respecting the idols ://. many tiktoks have minors shown doing body rolls or doing something s3xY with a s3xU4L song in the bg. many people just go on and simp, forgetting that many of those idols are minors. I wish this saga stopped just because I find this rlly creepy and tbh we don't know if the idols are ok with this. For example, in enhypen's one in a billion, the dance is incredibly... suggestive. enhypen's group is mainly minors and we don't know if even the members who are 20 yrs old or above are ok with this. not only that, but some of the member's are s3xuaL1zed by being shipped together.
its scary how the effects mentioned here is already affecting Wonyoung, she's visibly at an unhealthy weight and you can tell by the way her spine pokes out in some videos.
This video makes a very good point. Thank you for making it. Puts everything in line with references so anyone can understand bc frankly, it should be talked about more. HYBE _has_ been acting more sus recently and I am not ok with it.
Ever since GFriend disbanded with no known reasons did I realize that this industry is all about profits. So it’s very reasonable for them to do anything just to make money. 😢
videos like these leave me felling so frustrated, bcz no matter how much you talk about It, it falls on deaf ears, not until something horrendous happens will actions be taken. Adors statement was so gaslighting and condescending sounds like a bitter 12yr old child, Honestly, I thought ppl where over reacting about the lyrics cuz i didn't read them yet, and when i did I actually felt nauseous : 1 that CHILDREN are singing this and 2 that the company had the nerve to say we were too dirty minded, then talk about "having native English speakers and professors say the lyrics aren't sexual" which makes it even worse bcz they most defiantly know what cookie mean and don't care or the ppl there hired are stupid and lied on their resume. I thing Min Heejin saying she has a close relationship with NewJeans parents is also a red flag, you are their boss not friend and that is all your relationship should be, this is prime ground for manipulation especially if the parents don't know jack shit about the entertainment industry. I fear for them honestly their dreams will soon become their nightmare but i hope i am wrong and they have ppl around them that care for the girls first instead of money.
When I first saw that gp999 performance i couldn't believe no one said other thing besides it was a great performance. Yeah they dance good and i specially saw lots of support and recognition for Yeseos dancing skills (and for being profesional when having trouble with her mic), but dude theire ages, THEIR AGES. And it makes me even more mad that Yeseo has been exposed to creppy adults since she was 13, when she was in busters, a very problematic group, not bc of the members but the way the agency manages them and the fact that all original members left the group, some after becoming 18. 🙃 An ex members of busters recently talked about her experience being an idol at 13-14 and said she regret itbc she couldn't have a normal school life.
This video was so needed. Thank you to OP EDIT: serious question though, where are their parents? especially with wonyoung because we all know her parents are around and are successful as well. why do they not intervene? if my kid tells me they’re signing a contract with a company and becoming a trainee i would go crazy trying to stop them
@@billlieluv and no one is stepping in to help her or anything and that’s what blows my mind. no one is even acting to care? she’s been in this industry since she’s been 13 years old and that in a way makes me despise her parents. i really hope she can make it out alright eventually and can rest very soon
@@aquafinner1505 its really heartbreaking to see young idols like niki or wonyoung cry when they miss their parents i think most ppl who defend this cant understand what a big problem this is. the leaders are basically parents to those idols and its sad. they themselves are kids taking care of other kids
the hyuna song... i remember when i first heard the song and for some reason i was always crying when i did. only today have i found out the original lyrics... hyuna and many others that were exploited i hope you will heal your wounds and i hope those who harm you get the karma they deserve
1 and 2 gen idol didn’t even have timed Contacts until Korean Government around 2012 made it law to cap the contracts at 7 years because of all the lawsuits. Also Because male idol usually have to go into military so companies slowly started debuting idols at younger ages or look for overseas idols that wouldn’t be held to this military.
So much truth to this vid. Saddest thing is this is never gonna stop unless a law gets passed down. Kids will always dream of being famous and parents, who have the money for it, will always do their best to make their dreams come true. Kids are so easy to exploit because you just have to make them feel like they are the ones in control. While in the background adults pull all the strings.
the video with hanbyul had always been the must haunting video I had ever watched. i was really young then too, but even I could tell and feel just how scary and horrible it really was.
Ugh yes, finally someone talk and summarize the whole things here 👏👏 That's exactly why i don't stan group that's still have minors in it, it feels so wrong to stan them. Not to mention sometimes their skills isn't well developed yet, and then when they're debuting, people criticize them for not being good enough that cause them a lot of pressure and stress. They're still very young, their body, their mind, their mental, their skills, their knowledge, etc isn't well developed yet, they need time to grow and enjoy their youth... I hope this thing would change in the future
I'm glad to see this is still on the radar, I feel like I've gone crazy seeing kpop fans deadset on defending what's going on with NewJeans, particularly once they started beating huge girl groups on music shows. I even thought maybe I'm overreacting, and tried to enjoy every other song but Cookie, but it has put a dark cloud over their entire debut for me. I think what especially bothers me is that Korean channels have spoke up about it, like Tina from Korea, who has English subs on her vid, and BridgeTV, who didn't have Eng subs on their vid but many articles translated it. They have made it clear not all Koreans are okay with what is going on with this group. That and do people forget all the girls speak English?? At least two of them are completely fluent. Maybe they've blown off how problematic the song is right now, but it can take time for very young girls to understand how wrong some of this stuff is, look at IU or Hyuna who probably only picked up on it as they started approaching 25. The only thing I will say is that I'm a "vintage millennial", so I'm an older female fan of kpop, and I don't necessarily like older people being demonized for liking kpop. We obviously aren't all predators just because we're into the genre, and I don't know that drawing the line at being too obsessive about it is the best marker for whether it's inappropriate or not. I mean, I've never done more than see the Wonder Girls perform back in 2010, but my hubby and I almost saw BTS in 2020. I am obviously into kpop enough for this vid we're all watching showed up in my recommendations, and keep up with kpop on TikTok, too. I don't interact with apps designed for kpop, but I don't think other women my age should be made to feel bad if they're into that kind of stuff? While I didn't like seeing older men at a NewJeans fan event, I don't think it's right to assume they're being gross about it. My hubby only watches MVs if I force him to, he just likes to listen to kpop at work, because the music is obviously great at keeping you energized at work. I dunno that I should feel like I need to justify why he likes it, though, kinda messed up when older people just like music, too. So, ultimately, I see the obvious problems with NewJeans, and not just with Cookie now, but with the influence of the lolita aesthetic across several MVs, but I don't think being prejudice towards older fans is the answer, even if I can't help but question why men are at fan events.
I really thank you so much for making this video, if you saw all the people so blind in defending all this, saying they are "haters/jealous" of their artists, when clearly IT IS NOT AGAINST THE IDOL AT ALL, IT IS AGAINST THOSE PROVOCATIVE CONCEPTS / LYRICS / CLOTHING FOR UNDERAGE, if an adult is affected by being forced to follow this IMAGINE TO A CHILD FORCED TO THIS, when they can separate from their minds that they are really criticizing companies for provocative concepts/lyrics/costumes in minors AND NOT THE IDOLS, there they will understand and I hope it is not too late, when we have to lament some tragedy.

But people come up with all kinds of hazy explanations to dismiss the underlying themes of BABE and paint it as a completely innocent feel good song about falling in love with someone.
dude i had Always assumed she did troublemaker as an adult, because OF COURSE. that song is known for its adult theme. even covering rn is seen as too sexual
im baffled. i never imagined smbd could greenlight this with a minor involved
You mean YG? JYP was just smiling (still weird). But the guy at 00:19 is YG, he's the one grinning like he's gonna eat the kids.
i thought i was the only one who noticed him eyeing them weirdly tbh so i didn't say anything abt it - 😟
Without the shows editing, we really see it for what it is: a bunch of creepy old men with power leering at the malleability of young girls🤢

Because there are alot of old male fans and they genuinely support and like the group
right, it’s weird for a grown adult to go to a fansign to talk to 14-16 year old girls like?? idc what the intention is, that’s just weird.
@@NickaLah but exo aren't minors. So that situation is harmless

I really think NewJeans is talented and have a lot of potential, but they're a bad precedent as to what's to come out of the KPop industry.
Come to think of it, isn't the My First & Last era is so creepy? It basically normalizing teacher - student romantic relationship, isn't it?
@@mistertaxi2011 depends on interpretation I guess. I dont really seeing it as serious as student-teacher relationship cause there wasn’t even one. It’s just some students having a one-sided dumb passing crush while some are just doing it for shits & giggles imo. And the teacher didnt do anything to encourage them or initiate anything. The lyrics are also not implying anything. Check out NC.A’s My Teacher Student for a kpop comparison that’s way more questionable esp when it comes to lyrics.

Exactly
What was happening in Los Angeles?
the stuff about the clothes is so important (the part of Sera of 9Muses) because people is like "well they are 18 so they can wear, they are an adult" but like the stylist and the company waited until they were (they as in general for idols) 18 so they could put them on revealing clothes, i wouldn't what the idol wear off-stage but unless they choose it, what the company make them wear is because of a reason and to attract certain type of people
I am above 20 and would never accept to wear thst. That is too much for me, it is more than about the age
adult age is 19 in korea so they were technically minors
also it's wrong to force them to wear it, no matter what age
i feel bad for all the idols who feel victim to the industry at such a young age everyone failed them
also the kpop star clips are truly disturbing…
this is why it always irks me when these kpop fans would say shit like "bring grown women back" whenever someone is (over)praising past hit songs like miniskirt. they clearly weren't around when this era happened
those "grown women" where basically all sexually exploited for a few bucks; they had no choice but to dress and act sensually and perform to the music (stellar, spica, hello venus, aoa, to name a few examples). this trend went on from 2012/13 all the way to 2018, when the 4th gen debuted and became popular with the "teen crush" concepts (thanks gidle!). even non-sexy concepts were filled with either MV with really weird shots, like somi's cleavege in dream girls (this girl was like 15!) or momoland's yeonwoo and nancy being dressed with really short pants, showing their whole buttocks in a song whose concept was supposed to be fun and fresh (damn, poor nancy was recorded naked and that video was leaked to the public! absolutely alarming)
the situation is even more severe when you realize how conservative the general population in Korea is. these girls were raised to be "ladies" and then got dressed with short clothing and thrown on a stage with a public comprising of grown men ready to openly lust on them; and then get hated on for being too "provocative", called sluts, and being banned from music show , reducing their already uncertain success. imagine how a girl who got raised to be a more "conservative" and "appropiate" woman would feel when she's in this situation without any saying or desicion, knowing that her future depends on her silence.
This is so true cause I've seen people blame the lack of sexy concepts these days on the fact that so many idols are young as if that's ever stopped some of these companies.
"Her future depends on her silence" that's it, so heartbreaking.
Actually teen crush was introduced by wekimeki
Man, I hate when stans bring up miniskirt as an example of good era or whatever, like Chanmi was literally 17??? There's a whole child doing that choreo????
I recently saw a clip BTS of Le Seraffin and Sakura was crying talking about how she is not in favor or diet restrictions forced by the company. Like literally her voice was breaking and she was having a hard time communicating but still she took courage and did it
someone pls normalize having idols who r at least 20 and more,,
Even 18 is better than any idol debuting from the age of 13 to 17. Like that’s a big no.
Yes, I am also a heavy supporter of debuting idols at 20+
Seriously I cried while watching this video.
Also seeing minors doing sexualized dances makes me feel uncomfortable tbh.
having been a kpop fan since late 2013-early 2014, it's almost laughable seeing new kpop stans become so defensive of this and accuse everyone of only making it a problem *now*
i've seen the reaction to enough group debuts and comebacks to know that companies *want* people to do their dirty work for them by telling everyone that "they're just misunderstanding" and that "they're the one's sexualising by seeing the sexual undertone and innuendos". i mean that new jeans cookie statement was textbook gaslighting (shifting blame to fans, feigning ignorance, shifting the topic of the argument, getting angry for fans being worried about the members etc.)
if you have ever defended the idea of newjeans debuting as young as they are in an industry known for exploitation, sexualisation, and abuse;
*YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM*
Loudeeeeer!

@@eveandaedrul Doesnt make their behavior any less wrong
@@cranburrey I wasn't defending them lol
this topic is infuriating, it really makes my blood boil, I'm the same age as Bts Jungkook and i stan them since 2013, I remember being all busy with school but living after all as a 15 year old, while he was already working, I didn't got the severity of it and I took inspiration from him as an economic crisis hit my household, but now that I'm older I see that neither one of us should've work since that young age, but at least I got to live my teenage years, the most awkward and troublesome years, in private and to some point safe; it's really heartbreaking to me, and when i search for a group and see that the older members are 3 to 5 years or more younger than me it makes me sick to my stomach...
also thank you for clearing about the im fearless choreo (the wap part) when the mv came out I had to double take because i couldn't believe it, I tought it was a coincidence, but sadly no..
And I am asking to my self, where are their parents? letting your kid get exposed like that is just disgusting.
Like most parents who let their young children be in showbiz, they don't care about them. They only care about the money they will bring to the family and not about the well-being of their child.
YG licking his lips is really creepy especially when you know he met his wife when she was a minor
it really is so disgusting that people stan newjeans despite knowing the reality of their concept via min heejin and her blatant perversion toward minors. and any time someone voices discomfort with newjeans, fans will viciously attack them and accuse them of “hating girls who are just having fun” and “jumping on the girl group hate train” when it really is so much more than that. sorry i dont want to listen to a bunch of 14 year olds sing about how they want fans to “eat their cookie” …
Yea cookie feels so weird and it doesn't at all suit the group
Wow I'd heard the controversy about Le Sserafims dance break but didn't really get it until I saw the choreo ripped straight from WAP. Why would hybe make kids do that? Why are they selling Lesserafim like a quick gimmick for media attention.
Jk said that he wished he had a childhood and i can only agree with him.
What infuriates me is people who are outraged by kids working in textile industriy but not by those who are overworked by the ent. Industry.
Make it make sense!
Because they just want them to shut up and dance
I wonder if Jungkook asks his dad and mom why they sent him away so young
Well there making more money soo 🤷🏽♀️

BABE has haunted me since I heard it. I pray for these girls. I know how exploited they are in public but I pray that they are safe behind the scenes.
I'm actually on the verge of tears we just lost another soul today :( He started working at just f-ing 6 years old.
These old dudes SHOULDNT be allowed in these teenagers fansigns gosh!
They re creepy as f !
Poor girls, they must feel so uncomfortable….
I hate how we are all stuck in the middle… like I really want to support and love the talent idols
bring to the table but I’m also torn in not wanting to support the disgusting companies that literally don’t care for them and just the money.
It's exhausting to fight for this trend. What they don't show anyone is that the entertainment industry is just a glorified sex circle.
I'm appalled at the lack of discussion
nmixx members (jinni, kyujin and jiwoo) did wap move in their press cover, too
I became a Kpop fan in 2017 when I was around 14.
Which needs to change. It's a public perception that needs a thorough change, 'cause it is creepy
There is something called the spark of youth. It truly exists--but that is no reason to capitalize off of it. Ethics should override capital.
There should be an age limit of at the very least 17 to debut. And more god's sake, give them appropriate concepts if they are minors
Your comment DESERVES likes. Very well said
You did such a good job pointing out all these important facts.
And now an 11 year!!!! old will debut. In a group where the other members are all 20+ mind you. What next, a 7 year old ?
What's group is it?
@@adlan1270 I honestly completely forgot which group I was talking about 😅
i don't think companies know how dangerous it is to make minors debut.
Idk what hybe is trying to achieve these days.
7:51 that literally summed it up so true
This is why I wish people would stop putting NewJeans into the light so much, practically no one there is an adult.
its scary how the effects mentioned here is already affecting Wonyoung, she's visibly at an unhealthy weight and you can tell by the way her spine pokes out in some videos.
I still don’t get that one
videos like these leave me felling so frustrated, bcz no matter how much you talk about It, it falls on deaf ears, not until something horrendous happens will actions be taken.
An ex members of busters recently talked about her experience being an idol at 13-14 and said she regret itbc she couldn't have a normal school life.
Yeseo was also stalked and followed home while she was in Busters. It's the reason she left the group.
This needs more attention urgently!!! ✊🏼
The sad part in most industries sex sells and it's been like this since the decades. People would simp for it.
This video was so needed. Thank you to OP
EDIT: serious question though, where are their parents? especially with wonyoung because we all know her parents are around and are successful as well. why do they not intervene? if my kid tells me they’re signing a contract with a company and becoming a trainee i would go crazy trying to stop them
I am seriously worried for wonyoung she is being seriously overworked right now
@@billlieluv and no one is stepping in to help her or anything and that’s what blows my mind. no one is even acting to care?

That clip of hanbyul is so hard to watch, those CEOs look like predators. I'm about to vomit.
I feel so bad for newjeans, hope they give them appropriate songs next
Ugh yes, finally someone talk and summarize the whole things here 👏👏 That's exactly why i don't stan group that's still have minors in it, it feels so wrong to stan them. Not to mention sometimes their skills isn't well developed yet, and then when they're debuting, people criticize them for not being good enough that cause them a lot of pressure and stress. They're still very young, their body, their mind, their mental, their skills, their knowledge, etc isn't well developed yet, they need time to grow and enjoy their youth... I hope this thing would change in the future
Its not that Solar LIKED the SA idea. She was trained to think it's okay
This is such an important video. Thank you for using your platform to talk about this. Jobs are for adults not children!
This video should have more views and share everywhere
Honestly Hybe should stick to boy groups. I’ve said this also alot minors should not debut tgey will/would have alot if problems
Wow It's so hard to see how this going 😔 make me sad bc they play with the dream that children have
