They don't have any access fat and even if they had a little what is that going to change but really they want them to lose skin cause that's all they are basically
Going by the nhs standard of healthy weight the woman that was 177cm, was considered underweight. Like the nhs consider 75kg up to be healthy weight. Like wth?
@@sanaandyujusslave1121 you do know wendy and seulgi are younger than her. if anything she wouldn't want any of them to be told they're too fat or anything but at least she stood up for someone. we don't know if she stood up for her members behind the scenes or anything.
That man's standard was disgusting, Sulli was already so skinny and beautiful at the time. We can see how she became super conscious when he said that. Just plain disgusting to judge a young girl with that unhealthy standard.
Probably true. I would feel incredibly hurt if someone would say things like that to me. Also, it's absolutely stupid, because all of Mamamoo's members are gorgeous, beautiful - inside and outside.
That guy who pointed out Sulli's "fat" made me sick to my stomach. She was too precious for this cruel world and it makes me happy seeing all of the times Amber defended and stepped up for her.
that man should look in the mirror himself before judging others like he looks like a fucking rat nd had the audacity to say 'loose weight' to a person who looked soo beautiful
yes it fills me with so much rage. He had the audacity to go into specifics in front of a crowd and that completely disregards her feelings. These types of comments may stick with someone forever.
Yes. And what's sadder is her first instinct was to say "I'm planning on losing the weight". She's conditioned to think she's never good enough that she has to make excuses to a stranger about her body. I really admire the girls actively trying to criticize and defy the unfair standards in kpop, but they're so few and far between because the industry destroys most girls' self-esteem to the point they can never speak up.
It should have to be every ladies saying .. Like "if you don't like me than don't cause I don't even care about you and I will gonna make my own way by my own specialities . your words doesn't matter even for a little bit"
Thing is, I definitely say his words are absolutely wrong, they are supposed to be admonished, but remember he said those words many many years ago. His opinions on this definitely changed, I'm sure he is respectful these days, because I know how much a person can change in a span of years. I'm not justifying his statement, it is extremely bad, but, he is definitely not the same anymore. He is respectful to women, I'm sure he changed. But if he makes a comment like this in the recent years, I don't see the reason to like him anymore. But it was many many years ago, so just think about it. He's definitely changed. His behaviour these days show that.
But the truth is when they're on the thin side it opens more chance to them. They can be in more magazine and be a muse of some brand. They 're like a model, if they use the clothes prettily it will make people want to buy it. It means more money, fame, and fans which is the point of them being idol (harsh i know but its real 😭)
@@nafirahyumniharahap8726 It really doesnt matter about the body tho i agree with the part that people want thin people but i think it should depend on charecter, personality,attitude...But you opinion counts
They do know but they can't really do anything about it so they gotta make it look not too problematic to the public. There's a reason so many girl groups disband on their own volition
“You’re a female idol, so you need to lose weight” always sickens me to hear. like no, their job is to sing and dance, not to starve themselves, and suffer from low self esteem for their entire lives.
Right! Like omg they were trying to give this backhanded compliment as if she was supppsed to take it nicely. "Oh no no, we mean you're TOO SKINNY and want you to become fatter"
Find it disgusting and humiliating when they don't like you as a singer or a person but like you cuz of your body and how you look and they look like 👹💩
yeah, that comment was also bogus, I read a caption that said , that they used the fans words of her being so overworked that she's so thin that she should eat something, and they have their korean word for it. That is just picking on people.
I used to think no one said things like that too because I'm skinny but actually it's VERY common my sister get comments from my family all the time and she has flat stomach
Believe me its quite common no matter what body type you have.. im genetically underweight and people would just criticize me for it with "are you anorexic?" "You're so thin" In public..
expensive gurl uωu that’s so rude of them, and i think that is actually part of the culture of the country to say things like that informally right? because in my country, most of the time you just say thinks like that if you are intimate with the person, but in korea apparently not...
One thing that is bothering me is that in all these shows, the problems with their weights and their CEOs are being shown as funny and not serious. Everyone is laughing about it
I see that these women didn't laugh tho (except for the ones who called jihyo fat, too), they really got bothered, and making fun of this is a way they can tell these things. Maybe it's not taken seriously because Korea still very sexist and male chauvinist (idk if it's wrong, I'm not that fluent in English lol), several countries are like this, Korea is just one of them.
Ikr, I was shocked. I really used to like super Junior but there are some members who have a problematic behavior. I remember there was this interview of goo hara where the hosts literally made her cry and there was super junior member kyuhyun there too as a host, he later apologize and all but I didn't liked his behavior there and now shindong, even tho he apologized too but that's really disgusting thing to say. Now, I really hope their fans won't attack me because I'm just saying what I personally feel about them.
Yeah that comment was so stupid... I'm wondering if he meant it out of his actual ideals, or if he meant it because he understands the current situation for male vs female idols. Like it's one thing to say it in an ignorant way, but it's different if he meant it like "Fans are cruel and the current reality is that females have a higher visual standard than males." It means Shindong is either VERY stupid, or VERY aware of reality.
Also that other time Chungha was in a reality show and one of Super Junior members was also there. And he said something super creepy about Chungha and one of the older females called him out 🤢
But if the hosts take it seriously then the girls would be out of the agency next day if they are not popular or otherwise they will get punishment for saying that. So the hosts have to do something to make it look like a joke so they laugh to it as if it is a joke.
I wish they wouldn't, but given the nature of shows like that, it can't get too serious. Now, I think that's a problem in of itself, but that's how things are.

I feel like the most despicable thing is how journalists and interviewers will press idols for answers about their weight, and EXPLICITLY for their hardest diets, nothing about sustainable healthy lifestyles. Several times I've seen idols edited with funny effects after saying they nearly died from their diets. Everyone wants to ask idols how they lose weight, but no one wants to ask how badly they suffered
In tons of comments, people say: “oh, that guy looks awful, how dares he to judge any girl?”, but let me tell you: Even if these guys were top male 1% professional models, that still wouldn’t give them any right to judge idols’ looks.
That’s true, but if they don’t take care of themselves they have no right to expect girls to be at their “in their opinion best”, it’s hypocrisy. Everyone has their own standards and that’s totally okay, but no one has a right to tell other people how to look
Yes he has every right to, idols want the money from fans - idol business is a visual one. They don't sell fruits, they sell their image and songs. If you sell fruits and your customer doesn't tell you they taste like shit, you will go bankrupt. Simple as that.
It always shocks me at everyone's reaction to laugh at these scarring stories. These people dead ass find these girl's traumas funny and it infuriates me.
@i hate math it seems they don't. Tzuyu is an example of this. She's 172cm tall but still weighs lile 50kg. My sister is 155cm tall and she weighs that and people call her skinny. Just imagine the standard difference.
This makes me upset as hell. Im muscular/skinny but the muscles weight much more than fat so my weight is always higher. Before I started training my weight was 48kg but now it's close to 60kg. People seem to think its better to be dying in a skinny body than being healthy weight living a active lifestyle.
It’s interesting how when there were only men in the room they would all laugh, but if there were women in the room they would look appalled that anyone would ever say something so rude to a girl-
I think it's because that kind of staff is not always said in reality shows, so in order not to make a bad atmosphere, they just laugh, so it could seem that they just make fun of that person and not in a bad way. As you can see in the video where Cl tells that the CEO would call them ugly, Sandara also laughed because if not it could be understood as if they complain about something.

@Anna Ágoston agreed, I am a very petite person. I am short 5ft.1 and very thin but then you have some of these idols who are much taller than I am weighing the same or even weigh less than me. Well, this is Asian culture for y'all. I live in Japan and here people are obsessed with weight and looks too, I know in other countries such as China, Vietnam and Thailand things are like this too, but Korea takes it to a whole new level. They are truly, truly obsessed with how they look and how much they weight and the bullying about it is fierce. I refuse to wear makeup but in Japan and Korea not using makeup is considered basically a crime against humanity. I'm surprised 2ne1 rehearsed without makeup because yeah, it's not the norm. That's why she was bullied by the jerk. And I used to be bullied too in Japan but I've grown a thicker skin. I did reach rock bottom though thanks to the bullying I went through. I still have leftoverPTSD from it and it's been 10yrs already. Been a long journey to heal myself and learn to not care and not depend on people's opinions about myself.
i love how when that guy criticized Sulli, Krystal was quick to say "Gain more weight" to him, implying that he's too skinny to even make such criticism and Amber was quick to defend, saying "that's just your opinion" which denies the guy's claim that everyone thinks the girls are fat.

I've been seeing an increasing number of Toxic comments shaming and blaming these girls for sharing their diets and I know it's not healthy but they are just acting on what they've been taught and learned to do. It's important to remember the majority of idols don't have eating disorders and are not part of some sick pro-ana group, they are being pressured and at times forced to go on starvation diets because they're told they can't work otherwise. Korea just isnt logical. They have an ideal weight which is 48 kilos. And being over 50 is the biggest shame. I know the middle height for women is 1.60/1.62cm in Korea but many idols are taller than that. How can you expect a 1.60cm tall and a 1.72cm tall girl to weight the same?
Ikr! The other day I saw Joy's profile and it says that she's 1.68 and her weight is 49 kg, that is just not healthy. I know that some agencies modify their idols' profiles making it more "appealing" but what kind of fucked up message are they sending to young fans?

I ran out of ideas for my username yeah, they’re definitely exaggerated and the profile weight/height is usually taken right before debut. Most groups, especially girl groups, go on really extreme diets together before debut (maybe the most extreme of their entire career since they’re trying to be as thin as possible). Most idols I’ve seen who are asked about their profiles usually laugh and are like “yeah, definitely more than that now.” I’ve also seen a girl who’s clearly like 5’3” be listed at 5’5” and another girl who looks at least 5’6” listed as 5’4”. Don't listen to judgemental people that have nothing better to do in their lives. I know it's difficult, but still, don't ruin your body only to fit in society 💜
Watching this was heartbreaking and shocking. I’m a big kpop fan and I’m aware female idols are unfairly treated but I never knew that it was this serious. One of the girls said her CEO strictly said her weight can never go into the 50 kgs, but the average weight of a 12 YR OLD is 41.5 kg. People HAVE to stop.
the clip that showed that ugly ass guy calling sulli fat just angers me so much. she literally took her own life because of people like him along with goo hara, Lee Hye-Ryeon, Lee Seo-Hyun, park yong-ha, ahn so jin, and Kim Jonghyun. These beautiful, talented human beings took their own life because of toxic people with standards higher than their IQ. not to mention how people at my school STILL make fun of sulli and hara and call them names and don't even care that their hurting people. i just wish it would all fucking stop. all this hate. it doesn't make any sense to me why other people have to act the way others want. it pisses me off
And people still remain ignorant thinking that if they leave nasty hate comments the idol will not see and it will not affect them... They don't feel guilty and take any responsibility when these comments are so damaging
this is probably one of the reasons why I feel so unsettled listening to kpop sometimes. The background is sick. There's just too much dirt and sexism. We've lost a lot of women for bullying already. When I saw that Sulli just agreed with what that as**ole was saying, I could see how vulnerable she was. This is not to say western standards are better, but I really feel like kpop is all about those numbers. No free will at all. It's kinda scary.
Exactly. When you know the top labels are messed up and women's appearance decides their career and position in the industry is pathetic. I can't wait for the day the k-pop industry is more inclusive. Only then will it be a fair game for all artists.
@@mylittleone9440 I think it's pretty clear there's WAY more inclusivity in the western than kpop. That's why the comment above is a comparative statement. K-pop is known to have it's "cutesy" aura to the outsiders and people consume only the surface level info not knowing how pathetic it's background is. This video is to bring light to that since it's a fast pace growing industry right now and so many people have no clue about all this.
That photographer is really problematic when you watch the whole episode... not only did she criticize Jihyo she criticized others too and all of them are still minors
William Jqckson He actually called her dancing slow and said it was because of her weight. He said this himself: JYP- “Have I ever criticized you for your dancing or singing? What do you think is your problem?” Jihyo- “Taking care of myself.” JYP- “Your dance looks slow. If you gain weight, of course you’ll look like that. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is get on the scale. While the other girls practice their singing, you have to lose weight.” Jihyo- “He’s right. It ended up like this and it’s my fault.” And during that scene with the photographer he just laughed it off.. I really wish he would have said something
Dude the beauty standards in Korea are so crazy. I'm chronically ill and when I was healthy I was a size 4. After getting sick my weight dropped to a size zero. Things improved a little and I went up to a size 1 or 2 depending on the clothing item. Even at size 4 people always used to tell me that I was too skinny. I wasn't at all underweight tho. I don't feel good at a size 1. I can tell I'm severely undernourished in how I look and feel. The size these girls are being pushed to achieve is literally the size I'm at as a chronically undernourished sick person and that is so alarming. These girls look totally normal and healthy. The first time I saw the clip about Sulli I was so shocked bc she isn't overweight at all. In Korea they just think it's good to look almost bone thin for some reason....but they seem to have this ideal without taking into account what a body needs every day in it's basic health requirements to survive and function well. No one should be forced to eat less than allows them to get their daily nutrients in!!! Especially not young people who are still growing and being made to burn so many nutrients through their physically demanding daily activities. That is abuse! And what Shindong said is so disgusting. Like it's ok for you to be fat bc you're a guy but a girl should have to be super thin? Like no, how double standard can you be??? The only reason its like that is bc things are too male biased over there sometimes.
They have no consideration for body types either. I'm the same height and body shape as Park Bom and she's always hounded for being fat. She has a short torso and a large chest. They see her in a certain cut of shirt and it makes her look top heavy so they automatically assume fat, then talk about how skinny she looks a few days later in a different outfit.
This made me so angry that I started crying. No one, especially no MALE has the right to tell a woman what to do with her body. These women absolutely do not have to loose weight. They are all beautiful and most of them are already skinny. And to the ones that are even the slightest curvy or the slightest bit thick, they don't need to loose either. And people wonder why idols become depressed so easily, this body shaming could be a huge factor in it.
@@danielpark6068 uhh, yes? Why are your type so sensitive? You won't see a woman (especially in kpop) fat shaming a men the same way you see a male do it, nobody can tell what somebody needs to look like but especially the other genre
@@SallyOnceArmy Maybe not, but apparently women fat shaming other women are quite common too. I hope that is also not OK according to you. I think what Daniel wanted to point out was that the nod towards "especially no MALE" (very condescending and aggressive) was completely unnecessary as it shouldn't be allowed by ANYONE to fat shame another person. Like why are we trying to pick sides here? Humanism is the way forward. Love all and treat everyone with respect, regardless of gender (or all other things people loves to categorize people with).
When I was at the height of my Korean admiration, I saw this makeover show. It changed the way I view Korean standards and I was, for the lack of a better word, appalled. The guest woman on the show was overweight and verbally abused by her husband because of her weight and appearance. She had her transformation and when she was deemed ‘beautiful’ the husband was invited to the stage. Then the host asked him if he would love her now. And he had the guts to smile and agreed. Then everybody cheered like it was some sort of victory. I saw that years ago and I’m still not able to forget it. The show showed the woman’s struggle and he just had the end result wrapped with a bow. And she’s fine with that! And everybody treats this as a clebration. Many of these behaviors are perpetuated by the women themselves. But I get it. I do. I just hope for an evolution.
So true! Then that guy in the audience was telling these beauties like they are fat i expected from them to tell him to shut up and get out of the place and not to "Oh your right i was going to lose weight anyway"((((
@@annafaun4311 If I remember right, then Amber ( the other groupmember from f(x) that was also in the beginning of the video )defended her in the original video, which I loved. I don't know if it was because she's maybe just a little bit freerer to act how she wants, because her images is considered more boyish or if she just took the risk to defend her friend. because their images are so strict they are probably not allowed to come of to "mean" on television and are told to act in a certain way.
Let us not forget the pressure ppl experience to be in a relationship, although I do believe that it is worse for women. This woman you described did everything she could to keep her "husband", because otherwise according to society`s standards she would not only be "fat" but also single.
This is why Free the Corset movements in Korea are so important. Society is especially strict at keeping Korean women in line with one extremely harsh standard of beauty. When I read stories of 14 years old girls asking their parents for double eye lid surgery, dieting pills for kids and plastic surgery ads showing how much better your chances are at getting married after you go under the knife; you know their society has a big problem.

That’s true, but if they don’t take care of themselves they have no right to expect girls to be at their “in their opinion best”, it’s hypocrisy. Everyone has their own standards and that’s totally okay, but no one has a right to tell other people how to look

the sad thing is, in korea no matter how tall the girl is, if she's over 50kg they consider her "chubby"
@i hate math Ikr? Like they think that people don't have bones?
@i hate math it seems they don't. Tzuyu is an example of this. She's 172cm tall but still weighs lile 50kg. My sister is 155cm tall and she weighs that and people call her skinny. Just imagine the standard difference.
I hate that, ofcourse hight is important in considerating the "healthy weight", and even that weight is not healthy enough sometimes.
Thats just sad and should be like that:(
This makes me upset as hell. Im muscular/skinny but the muscles weight much more than fat so my weight is always higher. Before I started training my weight was 48kg but now it's close to 60kg. People seem to think its better to be dying in a skinny body than being healthy weight living a active lifestyle.
*girls talking about serious stuff*

It’s interesting how when there were only men in the room they would all laugh, but if there were women in the room they would look appalled that anyone would ever say something so rude to a girl-
me too they clearly don't understand mental health and eating disorders
I think it's because that kind of staff is not always said in reality shows, so in order not to make a bad atmosphere, they just laugh, so it could seem that they just make fun of that person and not in a bad way. As you can see in the video where Cl tells that the CEO would call them ugly, Sandara also laughed because if not it could be understood as if they complain about something.

I've been seeing an increasing number of Toxic comments shaming and blaming these girls for sharing their diets and I know it's not healthy but they are just acting on what they've been taught and learned to do. And no you never "have to eat snacks". They are just there to complete a small meal or to bring energy before a physical activity. And if it's litteraly only added sugar and water, you don't complete anything, at all. The only thing you're "balancing" out is the fact you were loosing weight.

Most groups, especially girl groups, go on really extreme diets together before debut (maybe the most extreme of their entire career since they’re trying to be as thin as possible). CL is one of the prettiest people I ever. She’s stunning. People are ridiculous.
In the words of CL herself "Mess with me, you gon see the color Red" no one shames THE QUEEN
This kind of thing makes me so mad.
"Isn't 50kg too much?"
"... Yes. Sorry..."
And that said by ANOTHER WOMAN.
I'M SO MAD. I cried. That scene was too much to handle. I want to change that damn society that puts the most ephemeral thing, bodyweight and looks, in front of mental health and happiness.
But what can I do more than report the people who bodyshame those poor girls? If you know, please tell me.
yeah. Poor Seolhyun looked like she was about to cry. And She is pretty tall.
That made me wanna know the other woman's weight. How much do weight? 20kg ???
Living as asian is hard..I got judge everyday but now is quarantine and its pretty chill
Even weight 50kg above will considered as fat ( sorry bad English)
Makes me very afraid honestly. It’s not healthy and I’m sure all these girl idols starving themselves already feel pains in their organs and if they’re not careful it can lead to permanent damage sort of how it happened to Audrey Hepburn
@@yesiam1461 don't worry about your english, it's pretty good! And please, take care of your body. You shouldn't care about your weight, but about your health.
I have a huge respect and love for hyuna, taeyeon and amber for defending their fellow idols
which one is hyuna

the clip that showed that ugly ass guy calling sulli fat just angers me so much. she literally took her own life because of people like him along with goo hara, Lee Hye-Ryeon, Lee Seo-Hyun, park yong-ha, ahn so jin, and Kim Jonghyun. These beautiful, talented human beings took their own life because of toxic people with standards higher than their IQ. not to mention how people at my school STILL make fun of sulli and hara and call them names and don't even care that their hurting people. i just wish it would all fucking stop. all this hate. it doesn't make any sense to me why other people have to act the way others want. it pisses me off
Sorry, I’m new to kpop. She took her life?
@@PupperinACupper Yes, Sulli was found dead from an apparent suicide in her apartment in October last year.
Welcome to planet earth where most people are envious selfish bastards with double standards ... enjoy your stay.
I wonder how he feels about himself now. I hope he feels terrible.
And people still remain ignorant thinking that if they leave nasty hate comments the idol will not see and it will not affect them... They don't feel guilty and take any responsibility when these comments are so damaging
4:32 Damn, people like this are the reason of sulli's suicide 🤬🤬🤬
this is probably one of the reasons why I feel so unsettled listening to kpop sometimes.
Ugh I always feel the same
Exactly. When you know the top labels are messed up and women's appearance decides their career and position in the industry is pathetic. I can't wait for the day the k-pop industry is more inclusive. Only then will it be a fair game for all artists.
I bet amber wanted to bash him really hard. I love those girls.
I think it's not only kpop 'problems'' but also entertainment industry in other countries .

For the person who criticized Jihyo when she was a trainee, lets just say Jihyo is more successful than ya.
My sentiments exactly
That photographer is really problematic when you watch the whole episode... not only did she criticize Jihyo she criticized others too and all of them are still minors
leks claro I was so sad every time they brought up her weight in sixteen. She look perfectly fine to me..
theConnieAurora did JY park day anything about it
William Jqckson He actually called her dancing slow and said it was because of her weight. He said this himself:
JYP- “Have I ever criticized you for your dancing or singing? What do you think is your problem?”
Jihyo- “Taking care of myself.”
JYP- “Your dance looks slow. If you gain weight, of course you’ll look like that. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is get on the scale. While the other girls practice their singing, you have to lose weight.”
Jihyo- “He’s right. It ended up like this and it’s my fault.”
And during that scene with the photographer he just laughed it off..
Totally Tiffany PERIODT.
So ofcourse you would agree that no FEMALE can tell what a male should do with his body also? Correct?
@@danielpark6068 uhh, yes? Why are your type so sensitive? You won't see a woman (especially in kpop) fat shaming a men the same way you see a male do it, nobody can tell what somebody needs to look like but especially the other genre
@@danielpark6068 It doesn't happen a lot with male like women
I agree it is very sad for young Korean girls to grow up in a society like this
Not that the US is perfect at all
People saying these are “beauty standards / that’s how it is” are part of the problem.
You like fromis9 ?
confidence and kindness is what makes a girl or any person beautiful remember that
This is why Free the Corset movements in Korea are so important.
