some fans see a curvy idol and theyre like omg slay girl you're so brave for looking like that in public im too embarrrassed to -- like they dont realize how backwards of a compliment that is. those idols could/are struggling. they aren't built that way for you to feel confident about yourself, they arent living for you!!!!

It's like saying to someone who is not super pretty "omg you're so brave for showing your face like that! I could never do that!" Exactly what you said, a backwards compliment... They're basically saying "you're ugly" or "you're fat" smh

Yes like I get trying to hype up your fave but it got too much with Hwasa. Girl can't live a day without fans and the media constantly reminding her she's not like everyone else. That would really wear me down or irritate me even if I did love myself.

Exactly! And what confuses me is that Hwasa is in no way shape or form fat AT ALL and I'd die to have her body shape, so when these "fans" say those kind of backhanded compliments like that I'm just shocked. I know she may be seen differently in kbs for whatever reason but in american beauty standards she's literally perfect. She's perfect all around, perfect body, face, voice, personality and those so called fans need to wake tf up and realize that.

Who says that though? It's usually your brave for being yourself in a society where you are extremely pressured to look and act like someone you aren't. I've literally never seen any comments like that about her, it's either prisse for her confidence or jealousy. If anything it's them saying they can't because of their lack of confidence but I've been a fan since the beginning and have never seen anything like that.

Watching her binge eating is very painful. I always thought Hwasa was full of confidence and never hated her body. That's also how her fans see her and depaint her. Honestly she's a real icon in every size, she has the voice, the charisma, and everything she needs to be a super star. MAMAMOO's members all have amazing and strong voices. I hope they all learn from their mistakes and stop starving themselves but eat well, for their mental and physical health.
Thank's for this video I didn't know she struggled with her weight.

The part where Hwasa is binging in the park is so concerning. Never have I ever seen a country excuse clear disordered eating behavior so much. Eating till she's sick isn't "funny entertainment" what is wrong with them??? It's honestly amazing how these companies can contact her for ads and stuff and then try to get her to be something other than what made them want to contact her in the first place. Also the company makes her think she has to bend to these pressures. I honestly think she will be the next to leave RBW.

Really?? What country are YOU from for you to be spewing such xenophobic and bigoted vitriol toward another nation? You’ve clearly NEVER been to SKorea nor any Eastern Asian country and you have very little respect toward other countries and their cultures. Really though? You’ve never seen a country excused disordered eating??? Soooo you’re just going to conveniently ignore the US and Hollywood blatantly ignoring celebrities’ issues with eating disorders? Actually it’s almost better when they do ignore it because when they don’t, they’re promoting it by splashing photos of emaciated starlets all over every magazine cover without any type of educational articles within the magazine to actually help anyone. You’re just going to ignore the Nicole Ritchies and the Lindsey Lohans back when being a 00 was in. Now what’s in is an exaggerated hip and butt right? So all these women running to put some chemical sludge inside their asses to look deformed is okay according to you right…because at least they’re heavier and not thin. Everything is justified in Hollywood right? It’s okay that literally EVER OTHER celebrity in Hollywood has a CONFIRMED eating disorder or drug addiction or mental illness …it’s just a problem when OTHER NATIONS and their entertainment industries have a few individual cases (literally a handful out of THOUSANDS of idols across DECADES of Kpop). That is the definition of xenophobia…of bigotry. I am so sick and tired of seeing Westerners bash, berate, and devalue other nations for this and that when those exact things are occurring in YOUR OWN COUNTRY but ten times worse..yet y’all neeeever write these “concerned” righteous comments about the US…about Hollywood…about the UK…right?? EVERY nation has its positives and negatives and EVERY entertainment industry will hold within it some level of pressure because it is an extremely difficult thing to be a public figure and known by millions … however it is NOT okay for you ignorant bigots to spew your xenophobia about nations you’ve never been to, cultures you clearly know NOTHING about. Mental illness wasn’t even a topic you discussed just a decade ago in the US…the US is a liberal nation. So why tf do you expect a CONSERVATIVE nation to undergo changes over night if it took a liberal country this long to start discussing the topic of mental illness?? Celebrities in Hollywood were made fun of for their mental breakdowns as recently as 2008? 2010?? Britney Spears, anyone?? Amanda Bynes?? Robert Downey Jr?? I can go onnnn and onnnn. Yet you’re going to sit there hating on another nation you’ve never stepped foot in? Please learn some TOLERANCE for other cultures. Learn to respect how other nations do things…they DO NOT need to answer to anyone nor change their ways to suit Western ideals, period. Xenophobes need to change. Y’all need to change your approach and stop judging other cultures so recklessly without even bothering to fully understand them or experience them even a tiny bit…even through some (much-needed) research. Hopefully this wakes you tf up. Who says things like that …in 2022… “what is wrong with THEM?” When referring to another country. That is pure bigotry. It’s 2022 guys…y’all have everything that you need at your fingertips in order to educate yourselves. There is no excuse for this level of ignorance.

In 2020 Hwasa's grandmother became ill and passed away. The actual death was very close to when Travel and Don't Touch Me were released so she didn't have any time to grieve normally. She had to film 3 MVs*, promote all 3 songs, and finish up Hangout With Yoo. I know netizens & stans love to analyze everything but sometimes they don't have all the facts.
Whoever made this video is wrong about MIC ON being badly received. It sold over 100k units and has done pretty well digitally. There is just a vast difference between what is possible for a big 4 group and what is possible for a group from a mid size company like RBW. There were a lot of high profile comebacks, such as Kwon Eunbi, Chaeyeon, Dreamcatcher, and Kep1er; that were absolutely crushed by Case 143 and Antifragile and Mamamoo just got unlucky. Tbh, Mamamoo needed a new release to build hype for a tour and so they released the minimum needed for one. 😂 Taiwan sold out in 4 minutes and I've seen talk among Filipino Moos that they're going to try to sell out in 1 minute!
Hwasa's longtime collaborator, Park Woosang, left RBW last year and has taken on many projects since then. He is committed to working on Hwasa's next album but he doesn't have the time that he used to to work with her. PWS is good at finding a medium between what the artist(s) wants and what the company will allow and Wheein & Hwasa particularly have made some great music while working with him. Hwasa's next album was supposed to be released this year but as was stated in this video, she wasn't happy with what she created. Her creative process is very intentional and thoughtful so she will not put something out for the sake of doing it. This year she put out a collab with Loco and she did that because she trusts Woogie, the producer, to listen to her and the result was a single album, Somebody, that was well received and nominated for awards.
*= Dingga and Aya were filmed back to back and Aya and Don't Touch Me were filmed simultaneously.

it is strangely comforting knowing a celebrity as talented and beautiful as hwasa also experienced major depression as a result of the pandemic. 2022 has definitely been a recovery year for my mental health, as i binge ate and was horribly depressed for most of 2020 and all of 2021. i hope she finds some mental clarity. i'm still recovering, but i have been doing a LOT better and have been focusing on some hard but much needed self care and improvement this year.

With all due respect, I’ve just never understood these types of comments. Why would someone else’s suffering comfort you in any way? Why would the knowledge that a successful beautiful individual having mental illness problems…comfort you? Why not stop comparing yourself to public figures and focus on your own treatment and hopeful recovery? Idk I just wouldn’t wish depression on anyone and seeing anyone, including public figures, suffering from it doesn’t make me feel good that oooh even a successful celebrity can have it too (because …obviously anyone can) or that oooh I’m not alone (because the knowledge that your misery has company or that actually you’re the only one in fact with this ailment

@@krisuler7734 i think at least part of it stems from having a flawed view of myself, and seeing someone who i have a positive regard of experience struggles that i empathize with helps to humanize myself, as my low self esteem makes me view myself as less than a human. it actually is a bit selfish and a bit dark, hence why i said "strangely comforting". i think another part of it comes from seeing another person go through something similar to you can help make your reflecting easier. it helps me compare how i was before to how much progress i've made today. selfish? probably. but i don't think it's harmful towards hwasa either. also thank you! i've had a very good past week of progress in my recovery

The update is finally here after 3 years. Honestly Hwasa was doing just fine eating intuitively before 2018. Somewhere a long the way she decided to start cash dieting every comeback either due to pressure from society or her company/members (solar is also very addicted to restrict/binge style dieting). But this will always make people gain more weight in the end, and it seems to have made Hwasa's diet go insane near 2020. I think she might have finally stopped crash dieting after the super long hiatuses last year and not being in the spotlight anymore. Her body is probably healing and returning to normal.

    • Ryujin from ITZY. she’s lost an alarming amount of weight in a short while and people are rightfully concerned.
    • Wonyoung from IVE. i don’t think i even need to explain…she became very very underweight in between IZ*ONE and IVE. to the point it could be detrimental to her health. she looks almost emaciated.
    • Wonho. a different style of video where instead of covering unhealthy weight loss or rapid weight gain, you cover his bulking story of where he started at Monsta X’s debut versus how he’s basically a bodybuilder now.

Yet, the kpop industry is putting girl groups in the shortest skirts, shorts, and crop tops with knee high socks making them look like kinky school girls. as the years went on when i was a teen i saw celebrity like hwasa rise to popularity and thought of it as an improvement for beauty standards of society at large, but tbh it doesnt seem like anything changed. only superficial slogans (mindless self love that idols really dont practice) or "awareness" of mental illness (which we can see people still dont know how to approach) that people shallowly recite without them being reflected in actual society in any way. as a result, people suffer. hwasa almost became the face of a movement/beauty trend, but even that was a marketing strategy pushed on her to make the group marketable and popular with new generations. and it only hurt her mental health in the end. the trends seem to be changing again and its unfair people so talented see their careers be so subjectable to anything but the love for music. being in the public eye is so damaging and i wish these girls the best

A lot of you don’t realize Korea purposely treats Hwasa this way because not only is she dark skinned but "Has the audacity to be bigger". So it’s way deeper than her being thicker, it’s her skin color. Yes, there are darker idols but they all have that one thing in common. They’re skinny. Hwasa is breaking all the rules when it comes to Koreas beauty standards and is proud of it.

As a westerner from Canada, it saddens me to see what they had to go through, they are very entertaining, not only as singers but as gigs they do on the side. To me they are a mix of TLC, En Vogue, Spice Girls all in one. Their management company probably didn't know how to handle a super group who has no limit. Hwasa weight has affected her a lot, the happiest is always when she eats and perform to her best self. In Illella you can tell she wasn't happy, extra covered up. I've seen so many idols like sooyeon, Seulgi or Luna act like eating vegetables or a nutritious salad is the end of the world. Or that meat is nasty unless dunked in a ton of salt/ sauce. Like there are ways to make healthy food delicious but idols act as if it's all or nothing!

I don’t know how helpful this is, but what really helped me was keeping a regular eating routine. Three meals a day and not trying to deprive myself of anything. It’s trying to change your mentality so that your brain and body don’t think you’re in a situation where food is scarce. If you’re worried about eating too many “bad” foods then thinking about what you can add to it helps. Like if you want to eat a Nutella sandwich then having a banana on the side, it helps to keep you nourished. If that makes sense. It’s easier to add things to your diet than to take away, plus I think it creates a healthier mindset. Also, I’ve found than cutting down on social media and avoiding body checks as much as possible helps with your relationship with your body (and then in your diet, especially at the beginning). It takes time and it’s hard work but it is possible get out of the cycle and have a healthy relationship with food. Another thing that helped me when my binges were triggered by stress or boredom was taking up crocheting. Gave my hands something to do and my brain something to concentrate on. Anything that keeps your hands busy and mind engaged works, especially if it has a calming effect.

She was doing perfectly fine when she wasn't dieting, it's only until there is all this excess pressure that she begins to restrict and then binge. It's a vicious cycle and one that's difficult to get out of. Shame on all those people who ridiculed her body or forced her to diet - it's their fault she has to try and change her body to suit them and, as a result, shes now in the throws of an ED. She's always had a nice body regardless of dieting and, as far as I'm aware, was always healthy too. I've read mixed views of this in the comments, so I'd like to say something. I think an idol's weight doesn't matter as long as they are healthy. Wether they are chubby or skinny as long as they are healthy that is all that matters. Dieting is fine as long as you are not starving, and eating a lot is fine as long as you are not eating an unhealthy amount. We need to stop caring so much about the shape and weight of idols, because while being "pretty" is nice, they are idols to sing, dance, and perform. Not to be things we get to control.
And this goes for all idols! I've noticed that male idol wise Yeonjun is always super skinny cause "fans" call him fat, but Jongho is pretty thick but no one says a thing. Similar things with other idols. When Jeongyeon gains weight shes a pig, but when Karina gains weight she's praised. Point is all idols are beautiful no matter what their shape or weight. Stop hating idols, and let's keep them and our selves confident!

I also can't believe their company was still so rude to her about her body and making her diet, etc making sure she "maintains her figure" when I'm pretty sure her having a curvy figure is one of the reasons they became so popular! RBW should be worshipping Hwasas hips bc that's one of the reasons they are still afloat 🤣

It's sad people are hating on AMFG when they've made videos for years like this to educate both international and Korean fans on their harmful behavior. Including other mamamoo members over years. You guys can't assume they hate mamamoo for posting comments ifans and kfans made, it's obvious most idols have serious eating and health issues. You ask why they obsessed over idols weights when that's obviously not the point of channel: it's to educate fans on eating disorders and cyber bullying.

Binge eating is horrible, I've been able to get over the cycle but I did have a little binge yesterday but I didn't let it keep going. Them laughing was so horrible to watch, like yeah it's scary for us to see what we are doing and we feel disgusting bc it's impossible to stop, it's not just eating large amounts it's about losing control and not knowing what u are. It's impossible to sleep after it, the feeling of being full and not being able to stop, the nausea after it and feeling like you are going to explode, oh and of course the guilt and then your family saying who ate this and I'm just there about to cry, I'm grateful that I haven't gained weight but it's not about the weight, it's about how horrible it makes us feel, sometimes I don't even know who I am.

when pandemic started, i never realized that I started binge eating till 2022 came. I rarely get out of our house because of COVID, but when we are now allowed to go to in my college. I took my pants which I always wear way back in 2018-2019 and realized that it doesn't fit me anymore. I never look at my weight, but I still remember that my weight in 2019 was 50kg. Now, Im so close to reaching 70kg. I feel like crying when saw it. I even starve myself but I still keep binge eating. Its feels so horrible. Even my parents keep telling me to lose weight, why do my body is wide, etc. It's honestly so hard to lose weight rn. I feel sick.

"some fans are boycotting their tour due to feeling RBW has mismanaged the group since last year" what "fans" are they? You boycott your faves, you punish your faves, when the fault is of the company? "Uhhh the company is bad, let's boycott the group, that has nothing to do with it!" Omg I hate people with mentalities like this....
And the "fans" that praise her as icon of self-love and confidence? This poor woman is struggling her whole life with self-hate and those idiots call her icon of self-love and confidence! Omg!! Do you even know your idol? Poor Hwasa, really... Having to deal with certain expectations, and then others that are the opposite, she can't do anything without being criticized for a reason or another... Instead of thinking about her and finding her own happiness..

Me too, I've never understood this mindset of fans wanting to boycott their idols' events in order "to help their faves" when logically, that produces the exact opposite results. In regards to fans putting all sorts of pressure on Hwasa is also sad.
I feel like we intl. fans are so used to seeing these idols who are all in their 40's in terms of weight, that when we do get these very few idols who do not fit that common standard, we put all of our hopes and expectations on that idol to the point where they don't feel good. Hwasa already had to deal with k-nets and them wanting her to lose weight and now on the other end of the spectrum, you have intl. fans wanting her to stay thicc... it's not a win-win situation for her.

    • @whatreallymatters571
      @whatreallymatters571 Рік тому +1

It actually makes a lot of sense, yes it will hurt the group but continuing to support the group despite mismanagement only allows the company to continue to mismanage with more money. Y'all actually don't make any sense, you can't demand change from a company while continuing to eat up whatever they do and whatever they put out. It sucks but actually withdrawing support is the only logical answer, the most extreme thing would be for them to leave the company or try to get the contract voided to join another agency where their fans could actually feel comfortable supporting them. Also the fans who praised her aren't in the wrong at all, when an idol pushes out a certain image everyone falls for it. They also weren't praising her body but her confidence and her obvious struggle having to deal with the extreme pressures of the society she lives in. It's not their fault, they accept her and show her love when she is skinny and when she is more curvy, their support doesn't change. It isn't their fault that outside people force her to diet. Also she isn't struggling with self hate, no where do you see her saying she doesn't like her self, she said she was chubby when she was little and got made fun of, she still didn't want to fit into other people's standards even then but did what she had to do to debut and show off her talents. Also struggling with something doesn't mean you don't have confidence and self love. You are extremely ignorant and backwards. Her fans more than anything want her to be happy.
