Staying true to form as our Resident Historian he presents to us another fine episode of Glasgow history. I myself enjoy the way he relates the fine cities history with present day events and locations. Thank you Sir.
WOW! I spent ages sitting on the benches when there was a traffic island & a taxi rank there in the 80s & boozin in the bowling greens behind it before it was a 5-a-side fitbaw place. That was sooo informative! Nice one as usual. Magic!
My great grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Langside Hall in 1905, I have the ceremony program from the event. I really enjoy your channel.
Ive walked past that pierce lodge and seen than coat of arms many times....without paying any attention to it...I wont look at it the same way again.....thanks for enlightening me!!
Wow, that is quite impressive! I never once thought that those buildings started anywhere else but wherr they are today, I love your videos. Keep up the great work.
Not Glasgow, but not far off. The Dreghorn and Perceton parish church was dismantled brick by brick and relocated to Japan in the early 2000s, it now operates as an upmarket wedding venue.
The years I’ve passed the building and never knew. It does show we really don’t know what we see every day. Got to appreciate the detail and research these clips go into.
i knew they moved the london bridges but i did not think they moved any glasgow bridges, fascinating ,they did dismantle a lot of buildings and rebuilt them elsewere, thanks bro :)
Excellent video. Look forward to watching the 49 previous episodes. Keep the good work. I made sure I gave it a like. I'm not normally moved to comment, but comment I must. I've just gone and subscribed. All the best.
Welcome to the channel and I hope you enjoy the other videos. Thanks for the like and I'm glad that when I motivated you to comment it was in a nice way 😆
Good video. Several other things that have moved around and could be made into a followup video: Lion and Unicorn staircase King Billy statue McLennan arch Annan fountain Doulton fountain Victoria Park gates I'm sure that there are a few other things that I can think of...
Thanks for all the time and thoughtful work you invest in your channel! It helps me learn where my family lived. My grandparents lived near Queens Park on Calder and Bankhall Streets. Cheers! Have a dram on me.
I've always known the bridge as Jamaica bridge, & I've always wondered what the 2 pillars are between the Jamaica bridge & the railway bridge....even as a child xx
I was looking at Langside Hall on historic maps last week, and couldn’t work out why the building looked so much older than when it appeared on the map. This video answers that question!
When the halls were moved there, it would be slap bang in the middle of Crossmyloof village. Crossmyloof School is at the top of Deanston Drive (now flats), and the CMY symbol is over the door on The Corona.
Great video. The ornamental fountain at Glasgow Green is not the one that was at Langside Halls. Unfortunately, the one at the halls has disappeared. There are a few of these fountains dotted around the city.
Unless its a complete disaster then I will definitely be doing more tours in the future and I look forward to seeing you there. Thank you for the kind words and the support and have a great week.
Another piece of amazing Glasgow history. Really worth a watch.

You are very welcome my friend and I will strive to continue bringing you stories of Glasgow's past.
@AstonishingGlasgow Thank you Sir FYI - I'm employed by BAE and am proud that their building the Glasgow on the Clyde; very fitting.

Really interesting video, I'd no idea that buildings were relocated en masse

"Excuse me sir, can you tell me where's the National Bank please ?". "Yes, but it depends on... well... when ???".
Brilliant mate. It would be good if you wanted to withdraw £10 and they adjusted it for inflation. You would walk out with about £40,000 :-D
Another great video, thanks.
Pity no one wants to preserve the NBR office building on Fleminton Street in Springburn.
The years I’ve passed the building and never knew. It does show we really don’t know what we see every day. Got to appreciate the detail and research these clips go into.
The Pearce building now on Gilmorehill, is reputed to be haunted. I wonder if it bought a former resident to its new location?
i knew they moved the london bridges but i did not think they moved any glasgow bridges, fascinating ,they did dismantle a lot of buildings and rebuilt them elsewere, thanks bro :)
👍👍👍
Another great video😊
So interesting , I was born in Glasgow but moved down to Ayrshire when I was only weeks old but for me I’m from Glasgow. Thank you for making these
Always worth watching---thank you.
That is truly amazing! Love your videos.

Great video Dave, an enjoyable watch, I appreciate all the research that must've gone into it.
Good video. Several other things that have moved around and could be made into a followup video:
Lion and Unicorn staircase
King Billy statue
McLennan arch
Annan fountain
Doulton fountain
Victoria Park gates
I'm sure that there are a few other things that I can think of...
Part 2 of moving buildings is already on the cards. This episode could have been 3 times longer if I had gone through my list 😆
Sorry I missed the "50th" premiere, great video as always Dave.
I will let you off this time but don't let it happen again 🤣

Those pillars are the remains s of the old central station rail bridge.
@@AstonishingGlasgow thank you so much, mystery solved after all these years lol xx
Excellent 🙏
Thanks love your video and content. from P Wladysiuk
The Lion and Unicorn staircase in Professor's Square in the University is also part of the original building that was transported over.
No Smeaton ever ‘battered’ anyone at Glasgow Airport…🤬
Absolutely astonishing
Thanks
Thank you so much again John. Your continued support and incredible generosity is very much appreciated.
Very interesting. Thanks
Roll and square sausage on me 👍

Thank you for your work 👍
Hi, are you the same channel who once posted episodes of Scotch & Wry. I'm looking for the 1991 special if you are able to help in any way. Thanks
I am but I had my knuckles wrapped by the BBC for breaching their copyright and I had to take them all down.
Love yer content mate.keep up the good work.
Cheers.
Langside Hall is in Crossmyloof, really.
I like to spark a debate.😄
Ha....the crosmyloof shed (as it must br as its right accross the road)....some man
When the halls were moved there, it would be slap bang in the middle of Crossmyloof village. Crossmyloof School is at the top of Deanston Drive (now flats), and the CMY symbol is over the door on The Corona.
It's just 'The Shed', and yep it's in Crossmyloof. Shawlands starts at The Granary, really.
Great video. The ornamental fountain at Glasgow Green is not the one that was at Langside Halls. Unfortunately, the one at the halls has disappeared. There are a few of these fountains dotted around the city.
I found that out shortly after I uploaded the video. I should have checked my source when I was making the video.
Another great video Dave!
Another astonishing bit of Weegie history! Cheers Dave and congrats on ep.50!
Thank you very much mate, its a huge help.
No probs!! Wish it could be more. My whole family, including my 96 year old mum loves your channel!@@AstonishingGlasgow
Thanks
Really enjoy your videos! Can't make the walk on the 8th but hopefully will later if there are future ones planned🤞
Unless its a complete disaster then I will definitely be doing more tours in the future and I look forward to seeing you there. Thank you for the kind words and the support and have a great week.
